Good Morning and Happy Boxing Day smile

We had a very quiet day yesterday, a lovely walk with youngest son and girlfriend,  swopped and opened  pressies outside which felt rather strange, but better safe than sorry.

Eldest son had an early Christmas Present on Christmas  Eve of a positive Covid test result, although he says he has been feeling fine, just a slight headache. His partner surprisingly tested negative.  They joined in the family zoom chat in the afternoon so we did "see" them on the day! laughing  They have said they will host a Summer Christmas in the new home next year.

We are now in tier 4 so its " stay at home" again.cry  so it will only be a dog walk forus today and then may start the new jigsaw puzzle.

Happy boxing day all. I hope you all had as good a Christmas day as you could and Santa still delivered.

My favourite was this highly useful safety cycling t-shirt for when I'll be out and about.

Nice tee shirt Corners, you just need your Emergency number adding to that now😂 We have a sticker on Jeep similar....”if you can read this, please roll us over”

Lovely day yesterday for us. Considering we weren’t “doing” Christmas, it took a while to open our presents. Enjoyed a nice meal with Mum and Sister, we even managed a bit of a dessert, a rarity on Christmas Day. But I have to say it’s the best dessert I have ever eaten............ Croquembouche, three different flavours. Very light, but full of taste.

Watched a couple of old films in evening, enjoyed them.

Quiet day today planned, catch up with family online, walk the pooch. Not too bad weather wise at the moment here, so might have an hour in garden. Take care all👍

    G'day to one and all.

Hope you all enjoyed your Christmas Day, albeit not quite the one you planned. Maybe it gave us time to take stock and remember all that is really important to us and to not take things for granted when we do return to normal.

We have behaved ourselves and enjoyed the day yesterday. I remembered where I had hidden Mrs WNs presents. I was clever this year as I gave them to Mrs WN after wrapping them to hide.😅 I managed to have long conversations with both of my brothers.

We didn't overeat and restricted ourselves to just the main dinner. Couldn't cope with a 3 course meal. We tend to have whatever the starter is for lunch and the pudding the day after. Today though it was a Mincemeat and Apple Stewed Sponge that I made and we had that instead of Christmas Pudding.

My thoughts do go out to those who have been caught up in the floods.

It sounds as though most had a quiet but pleasant day.  As you say WN hopefully we will remember in the future what has been really important to us this year and treasure it more. We had a good day. Video calls (via Facebook messenger, much easier than zoom!!) with the family in the morning while we all opened our presents and then lots of whats-app photos and messages during the day so we knew how their day was going. We ate our Christmas dinner in the evening so spent some of the afternoon pottering in the kitchen preparing and very nice is was too. We went to Ferry Meadows this morning to see if it was possible to have a walk and take some photos.  My goodness I couldn't believe the flooding surprised. The lakes and rivers have merged into one. We did manage a bit of a walk but had to keep retracing our steps. I have never seen it so bad!. More rain and high winds forecast this evening and overnight so have spent some of the afternoon moving everything movable into the shed.  I do feel so sorry for those poor people that live down near the river. I gather that they had to evacuate the residents of Billing Aquadrome, near Northampton, yesterday.  What a way to spend Christmas day.

Milliehull that looks bad. More due 😱😱

Son has been digging trenches from field to dyke in various fields I believe as they have flooded fields, the pumps weren't coping! DIL not sure if wheat can swim!

Fingers crossed that theres not too much damage to folks homes. Just walking in the mud is bad enough.

Very quiet day yesterday just the 2 of us. Had zoom call with both boys and their families, first time we've all been together on Christmas day laughing think we will us zoom more often.

Weather today is terrible hasn't stopped raining all day. Nothing as bad as down south as I'm not aware of any flooding.

Looks bad a Ferry Meadows millie, terrible for those who had to leave there homes.

All of us in Scotland mainland now in tier 4, with the weather the way it is I can't see many objecting. We usually go away after Christmas either in the van or fly off to warmer climes.frown

Glad you got home safe NTH

Tamworth is still Tier 3, and so is Warwickshire  but we're not holding our breath!!...  Our daughter lives on Lewis, so they are not (yet) in Tier 4.  Difficult times for everyone.  We're just keeping fingers crossed for a better 2021...  eventually.

2 quiet days for us, very much back to our normal routines of morning and afternoon dog walks, regardless of the weather, which has at least stayed dry while we've been out. Pouring down now and windy too.

Glad many managed to at least see their family members. Feel for all those that have been flooded out of their homes or are having to cope rising waters.

Been another quiet day for us here we haven’t even set foot out the door. Weather is horrible it’s rained most of day and the wind is now howling outside. Watched a film this morning then I had a ‘football afternoon’ watched 3 games on the trot while SWMBO read her new book then it was a steak pie dinner which was lovely at least that’s one tradition we have kept this year as we always have steak pie on Boxing Day. Nice to read others news and good to hear that it seems everyone has as good a day as possible yesterday.

Heard the very sad news last night thst 2 ex work friends have died in the past couple of days. One on the covid ward the other in a care home. The latter had been a very good friend and that friendship carried on after we retired but she sadly got early onset dementia and has been in a care home for several years. What a dreadful year this hss been.

Same here Millie, not a nice way to end or start a New Year.

Well, it was howling and lashing with rain when I went to bed last night, but woke up to clear blue skies here. I think we have got away light in our area, but there was lots of flooding predicted elsewhere yesterday.

    Might.........🤔.......get my bike out.

Sorry to hear about your friends Millie, my thoughts are with you, what sad news for you to recieve at the same time.

Like TDA we were battered by storms last night, now calm blue skies this morning. I'm hoping daugher and partner will get off Dartmoor before any snow arrives, they've taken his old van loaded with bikes etc and it really is an "old" van!

Everything is quiet here, we noticed a lot of people out for walks yesterday, I checked again on our old neighbours, they enjoyed their Christmas lunch on the day. I also walked over on Christmas Day to some other neighbours with a bottle of English sparkling wine, they brought glasses out, we stood outside and toasted all the absent family and friends.

The sparkling wine, received as a substitute from Waitrose was a great success, Chapel Down Brut NV from Kent, totally on a par with good champagne. Well that was one successful substitute.

I feel I ought to go out for a walk but maybe I'll have a bit of a tidy up first, OH and I have slumped our way throught the last two days and the crumbs are showing! smile

Dartmoor would be high on my list of Xmas escape venues Brue. Very much one of our favourite places. Love the small towns like Chagford, Moretonhampstead, Ashburton, Bovey Tracey, Etc.... that ring the outer edges, and then the hidden places all over the Moor itself, absolutely stunning place.

Sad news Millie. This year seems never-ending.

Lots of deterius on the back lanes this morning. Branches down, water everywhere. Nice sunny morning though. Cold enough for some sleet, which is predicted for this afternoon.

More tales of people travelling into Wales to climb Snowdon. Ignorance isn't that blissful when you get fined by the police.

We had a lovely Christmas day with Callum and Mummy and Daddy, he liked all the presents, of which there were dozens as SIL has a large family.  So many parcels to open that he decided to save some to open another day!!

Lunch was very good, and I did get that floor finished before we ate.

Weather dull and cold, but dry, so the inlaws dropped round for an hour to take a glass of whatever out in the gazebo.  They did not linger!

Boxing day weather was miserable but we seem to have escaped the worst of the weather as only wet and a bit windy.

We woke today to sun and a light covering of snow, and are having a relaxing day before tackling the next lot of left over turkey .

My neighbour's cousin's husband passed away 2 days before Christmas from Covid. Both he and his wife got it, but he quickly deteriorated and was taken to hospital. She has recovered, but was called to the hospital the day after she was allowed out again. I didn't know them, but when you hear first-hand of someone who has died, it somehow brings it closer to home.

It most certainly does Ina. The Sister-in-Law of our neighbour went into hospital with it over 6 weeks ago. She's still in having only just come off a ventilator and she still has a tracheotomy tube in her throat. She' early 60s and apparently fit with no underlying health problems.

If fit young healthy Twenties or Thirty year olds were coming down with it in the same way and in the same numbers I think the mindset of the nation may have been different.

Sad news to receive milliehull, never a good time for such news. My thoughts and prayers with you and their families.

InaD sad news of your neighbours too, yes it is very sobering when you can identify one of the 'victims' not so much of an abstract concept. Not that with something as serious as COVID it should be abstract. We too have heard of neighbours parents with it, the offer of hospital for her dad - with the proviso that as results weren't known at that stage he would be placed on a COVID ward so the chances were he'd get it 😱. A friends had it much earlier in the year we believe, no tests then. Not that that stops him gadding from the northeast of England to Essex pretty regularly regardless of the tier levels and requests for non urgent travel 🤬🤬😤😤

I hear our hospital has gone from 1 COVID ward to 5 during December, that news is probably a good week old so maybe worse now! Cases being shipped out from London and Basildon, which was designated hospital. ICU extremely busy and as full as worse time earlisr this year but they have correct PPE and knowledge of some drugs now.

Not sure folk get it 😤🤬, I was later doing dog walk this morning to let the rain  pass, now glorious 😀. We have been tier 4 for more than a week so should have a grasp of regs by now 🤔. Kids playground rammed. Lots of groups walking some of which were 8 or 10 adults plus children, various adult ages........... Little social distancing when you pass however hard you try.  I think I'll be resorting to wearing my mask for dog walks now.

    Stay safe folks.

HelenandTrevor nice to hear from you, wishing your son a speedy recovery and fingers crossed that his partner stays free from it.

Sorry about the news about your old work mates ,i am one of the few left now from my old work place, the annual "do" is now being kept going by much younger staff who are still employed,

Very wet and slippery when out with Rosa this morning, and many tree branches obstructing some areas ,

What was very surprising is how does a turkey carcass end up in a field about half a mile from any properties? Rosa found itsurprised

Possibly a buzzard JV? We once had one drop a fresh roadkill bunny onto our van roof down in Cornwall, right old mess.

Just enjoyed a decent walk, too wet and slippy for bike here still. Done a few chores, good to get a bit of exercise before settling down to something less strenuous. I got some Art Clay for Christmas, could be the next creative passion for me, just browsing ideas and techniques online, as it’s a new thing not tried before. Could get messy......😂

Very sorry to read your sad news Millie, our thoughts are with you. Amazing photos of Ferry Meadows. Our river burst its banks too and the local arts centre was flooded again!

After a very windy and wet night, today has been beautiful although chilly. Had a lovely walk, quite a few people out and about, Sainsbury's car park was full when we walked passed,  as its only the supermarket's open everyone is heading to them I suppose.

Eldest son messaged to say he is feeling OK, symptoms have been very mild, so he has been lucky.

Bakers2,  thanks for the good wishes.

It’s difficult to know what day it actually is! Each starts the same - 05:00 alarm, milking/feeding/mucking out/bedding etc for about three and a half hours (aka “doing up”), and ends the same (from 15:00).

But in between we have had some time off. Christmas dinner next door with our son and family. A family Zoom, including our children in Derbyshire and Leicestershire. And falling asleep in front of the fire. No energetic walks - just a ride round the farm in the Gator.

Tomorrow it’s back to normal. A full days work, but a farm worker to help out (and feed!).
