Helen I just googled 'Aldi click and collect'. It's the same as most supermarkets charge and I try not to go in supermarkets at the moment so I take the hit every couple if weeks.

Yes I remember having to attend numerous meetings, make loads of preparations and be on call all night. We had to record everything by pen and paper as a backup and absolutely nothing happenedyell. We were even told to switch most of the lights off so the system wasn't overloadedsurprised

There was a lot of work that had to be done on the Y2K bug to make sure it didn't happen, but this is no myth. It is a fact as 32 bit processors have a maximum number  of 2 147 483 647. Google it.

Mainframes won't be affected but any device not connected to the internet could suffer.

yes my OH was one of them who had to brought out of 'retirement' to rewrite the older languages she had learnt in the 1980's to change the two digit year format to 4 digits.

As I recall there were several countries and agencies that did suffer problems, one in Sheffield lead to tragic consequences.

A funny and noteworthy event happened to me today. Normally I sleep very well but am always awake and up and about quite early.

Today I slept in till gone 10.30! I've just learnt this evening that Mrs C actually came and checked I was still breathing a few times.

Had a good and productive day today !  Woke up to a centimetre plus of snow so warm cord trousers, fleecy lined shirt and a warm 1/2 zipped woolly ( Christmas Present   innocent  ) donned along with good tread shoes to feed the birds, unfreeze & refill bird baths before breakfast. Then a good 12 mile drive to keep the battery charged**  before dropping the mags and a couple of 'rehomed' presents.  All the snow blown away from the motor, but looks to be f f freezing away merrily at present . Any way Sister informed me that her eldest, the one with the thick whippet, got her shopping & meds done for her so no need even to go to open the front gate ~~ dammit at last she's seeing sense smile

** Strange old world 'coz just before the holiday I treated myself to one of the Lithium ion battery boosters ( only £99  money-mouth  )  and you can well guess -- I charged it on purchase, and its never been unwrapped since, so probably like Corners, the motor just needed proof that its really & truly loved  undecided - it could tell that from the sound of the M-card wincing smile

I woke up too early this morning, mistaking the bright full moon for daylight, ha ha. So I put the radio on and listened to Farming Today (lots of chat about growing things that we never used to grow but possibly not stuff we could survive on...kaffir leaves?) OH once grew lemons in the Highlands, under glass so we know it can be done. laughing

I think I also woke up because I knew we had an early food delivery and sure enough it was earlier than expected. Must try some later slots as the newspapers hadn't arrived, we don't have papers in our village shop as no-one wants to get up early to do them so I tack them on to the food delivery.

Heard the good news about the OxfordZ vaccine at 7am but wonder what awaits us from the PM at 9.30am?! frown

Very frosty but sunny. Neighbours sorted with their food etc delivery, breadmaker on, a coffee is a must now. smile

Hells teeth Corners, I find your numbers fascination fascinating😂 Bit like me with History, I have to know all the minute details.😁

Novelty has worn off washing pots now, OH’s back is seemingly much improved, so we might just tackle the blighted machine this afternoon. Fingers crossed it’s just a blockage.

We are on snail mail here as well. OH’s birthday card from his Sister arrived this morning, a mere 20 odd days late. So we expect to see our less than informative Sites Directory by March possibly. Meantime I will make a note of the deliberate mistakes folks find, and put in my own amendments😂

Contacted scaffolders, given a drubbing by text. Polite but firm.😡 Given them a week, then we tackle the issue ourselves, one way or another.

Haven't looked at Covid case rate for a few days........😱 Road blocks required I think. Time to get a grip properly.

Meantime, have completed a very interesting and informative little jigsaw. Map of 17th Century Yorkshire, took ages to complete. Looking for Cornwall one similar now.

Our snow is lingering, not a great deal, but it’s not thawing.

Brue it certainly was BRIGHT moonlight this morning. Dora most unusually asked to go out at 5am, normally she'll be ok until well after 9am by choice. Not only was the moon full and bright but the frost was sparkly too.

I had decided I'd get up earlier this morning, not for any reason other than getting Dora's walk done before the estate got busy. But I decided 5am far too early and after listening to some Ramblings podcast, found it was 7.30 and I had to push myself to get up. Reward was much quieter walk thankfully.

Today its beautifully bright and sunny unlike yesterday's grey. Got the dog walking clothes in the washing machine, as hard as the frost was it wasn't hard enough to freeze the waterlogged ground.

Brue you're doing a sterling job of shopping for neighbours and yourself, it's a shame you weren't rewarded with a newspaper. Whatever time was your delivery? Mum's village lost their local newspaper delivery service many years ago. They then secured a delivery originating in Suffolk and her paper was there before she got up about 7am. That ceased, delivery problems again, but eventually new delivery from a company working out of west Midlands I believe, no idea how she sourced them, village jungle telegraph I expect, still on the doorstep for reading over breakfast. Sadly I don't have the details now.

Our NHS trust has declared a major incident 😱😱. I fully expect our tier level to rise above 4 and our freedom curtailed some more. Must try harder than ever to still fit and well.

OH watching Goodnight Mr Tom when I got back, I'm half watching it whilst I play on here, have a cuppa and await washing machine to complete its cycle. Makes me very sad 😢.

I'd rather be without a dishwasher than a washing machine! Only had a dishwasher for the past few years, it's good but the work surfaces don't get such good wipe downs, was always all of the after every wash up session. I hope yours is fixed or replaced asap takethedogalong.

Edit our mail is very slow too, nothing from NZ yet, despite early despatch, only cards I think, presents delivered here from ordering. Son posted their cards rather late but on 19th I believe after tier change. My card, he always does one for each of us, arrived Christmas eve but OH's still hasn't 😯. Chatting to our post lady they have lots of staff off with COVID or isolating. We only have ber at the end of the week, post generally arrives midday - early in the week it can be up to 9pm or later, as it's an overtime round.

Stay safe Bakers, it’s brilliant news about the AZ vaccine, but it’s going to be a while before everyone gets done. Our case rates are best they have been for a long while, but I hope we stay at least a Tier 3, it’s keeping folks safer. Interestingly, most of our shops are still open, but it’s only certain age groups that are in them. We are fortunate to have a huge variety of online supermarkets around us. I must check if our Aldi are doing it. £4.99 is a tad pricey, but it’s only 49p more than Tesco, so I would use it.

Your neighbours have had as good a Christmas as many Brue, thanks to your wonderful efforts. Good to hear your Sister is doing ok as well Brian👍

Corners, I had a sleep in day Tuesday. Got up at 6am to push a tablet down the recumbent hound, went back up, heating had clicked on. Woke at 9am, couldn’t keep my eyes open so thought “sod it” and went back to sleep.😂 No crime was committed😁

Must be an age thing. Woke up with a start just before 6. Had to lie there perfectly still though as Mrs WN was away with the fairies, at least I hope it was them.  An hour later it was necessary as cramp had set in. No chance of keeping cramp in my foot quiet.

A lot of lying ice on the pavements this morning. We did a supermarket run last night, had to defrost the car at 7.00 pm first so we had the morning to ourselves. Very quiet in Tesco last night so we'll continue with an evening shop next week.

Had a snow flurry or two but the sun is out now and we've hit the giddy heights of 3º.

I agree with you Ttda about road blocks. Welsh Police had people turn up from London , West Midlands and other parts of England to climb Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons the others day. Some locals in wales were none too bright going there as well. Idiots. Stop pussy footing around and confiscate cars or clamp them or do something punitive for goodness sake. Instead we get experts saying things like "We are disappointed....." Well that told them eh?undecided

That was really bad about the Pen y Fan crowds WN, totally bonkers, no wonder this is such a difficult disease to rein in. Maybe there'll be more "marching orders" today at 3pm to control things? I'm suffering from brain indigestion with the Brexit vote, the vaccine announcement and next the "bad step" for many of us, all on the same day.

B2 your area has reached a very worrying stage, I feel sorry for everyone.

The delivery you asked about was before 8am...just as OH siad they never arrive early they did today! I expect your post is probably affected by Covid, we had similar here earlier on. We had our NZ card and news in November...my cousin has retired so has time to get organised now!

The Welsh Government "advice" is to start and finish your daily exercise from home. It's on our local councils website that Police have today issued summons to people from North Wales, Bolton and West Midlands who arrived at Pen y Fan.

We live in an age of Blanket 24 hour accessible News Coverage yet some people still cannot understand plain English.

The interesting thing about the people doing this is that the majority look to be normal intelligent people who are not stupid, their action might be stupid. It does make you wonder how these people compute that it is safe to drive 100 plus miles in the current circumstances? There can be nobody in this land that doesn't understand about COVID?

TDA, I was going to suggest that you advise the scaffolding company that on Jan X you will be putting everything for sale on ebay assuming they have donated it to you. However the thought of trying to sell scaffolding poles on ebay might be a nightmare best avoided...although the planks would be popular! Good luck with your plans!wink

Another bright but freezing day here.

All decorations down and put back in the attic. Housework done now looking tidy once again.

Drove over to my friends to deliver her birthday card. This is the one who's son and family escaped London just before tier4 came in. They are staying at his MILs house in Oxford, now in tier 4 I believe.

WN, we've heard of folk coming up here from the south coast for Christmas, what part of only 1 day did they not understand. They have gone back south now having infected their parents, sister and her children. I have no words for these kind of people, well not that I can use on here.

Great news about the Oxford vaccine, with a bit of luck we might make it to France this spring after all.

Tammy (and DK) It's not just the travellers, in Tammys example, who are selfish but also their parents and sibling for welcoming them, albeit to a lesser degree.

There is just far too much self-centredness going around. Either that or a complete blanking of the fact that it could happen to them.

I think many who decide to escape to the hills forget that as human beings we think alike and several hundred more will have had the same idea...that's my take on it. However just one look at the crowd should signal it wasn't a good idea, that's the bit that separates the slightly more intelligent ones and makes them turn around and go home....I think?...innocent

TG. I'm hanging on to the Christmas lights for two more days, just to add some cheer. Then we've got to work out why a huge long line of outside LED lights are flashing red and yellow on half the length and blue & green on the other half when they started off mixed. ✨

Well it’s turned in to a very busy day here for us. I was planning on heading out a cycle his morning but it was far too Icy. We have instead made a start on the room upstairs that we are going to decorate. It’s now empty with lots of stuff ready for the charity shop and other things binned. Tomorrow will see the celling getting a first coat of paint and hopefully the laminate flooring getting lifted. Seems like a lot of work but I have been given the deadline of a week by the boss to get it all finished so we shall see.

Have had a couple of busy days (still on going) as OH had another fall in the house ,when i was out with Rosa (i keep telling her to either stay in bed or in her chair when i go outundecided) have done a Wickes  (why sell banister rails and not fittings?) and B&Q( most things  i thought i needed ?) so have been fitting extra hand rials and handles to help?

Falls clinic was requested by doctor in September ,we have had four letters advising of appointments (two letters for same day and time?)then last week another letter cancelling appointment again, the following day another letter with new appointment one week later than others  not holding breath as all appointments are mid to end of April 2021 Should we book any sites yet?surprised

    If open by then?

Worrying for you JV, I hope your OH is ok. More banisters and extra handles at strategic points are very helpful. My OH put quite a few things like this in a good few years ago for Mum and Dad, and it helped immensely.

Dad had a period where he was having a few stumbles. Turned out he hadn’t had an eye check for a while, and his bifocals were prone to slipping down his nose, so steps and uneven ground had become guesswork! At that point we took over his eye check ups.

Good luck with persuading her to do as she is advised. Mum’s usual response when I suggest something is little gems like “when did daughter’s know best”........as I catch her in mid air😉

Well , it's Tier 4 for Crewe now, along with the rest of Cheshire so I will react in my usual " Anti ~~ C19 " way  Totally ignore the whole bloomin' shebang, curl up in front of telebox and only emerge when tummy starts rumbling too violently or when the  vaccine call comes.  I can get too upset doing it any other way 'coz I'm in full agreement with many on here.  A beach full of plonkers in Australia { should all be deported at their own cost & passports retained by Aussies }  as well as an appalling crowd of British, apparently, Alpine Skiers who, when told to Self isolate in some Swiss resort waited till darkness fell then fled across the border. If they can be Identified then suspend their passports for a 12 month,  I do have names for these scum bags but it would bring the Wrath Of Rowena down on yours truly.  As for the Good Folk visiting Hills in Wales  a similar thought crossed my mind ~~ that Drivers licence & car insurance should be immediately suspended for at least a MONTH ~~  if they don't want to stop then MAKE THEM.

Rant Over so now back to Fun and Trivia

We have had 2 sunny but very cold days.  Yesterday we ventured out to Aldi for some essential shopping.....milk....veg....but no "party food" ....lots of cars on the road, but shop not particularly busy.  Today OH tried Tesco for some "party food" for New Years Eve, but found a lot of bare shelves,  Huge queue at M&S, so she gave up and came home.  We will delve in the freezer and see what we can find!

Tomorrow we are being sent on a mission, by DD, to pick up a cot bed she has secured on Freecycle, other side of town so will take about 25/30 minutes to get there.  Not sure why she is not going herself.    🤔

We will drop it off at her house and pick up some things we left there by mistake at Christmas.  Had to empty the car of all my tools as we need to put the back seat down.

The plinth heater in the kitchen has stopped heating, seems to be blocked.  I think it is the TRV that is  blocked, but OH is refusing to let me drain down the system enough to remove it to see.  Apparently it is too cold to risk not having heating!   We will use a fan heater in there meantime.

We're joining you in tier 4 ABM, it won't make much difference to us except we can't go over the local border for a change of scenery or a sea view.

JVB sorry to hear about your OH and the lack of contact with the team that can help you both. Having seen this happen it can be something as simple as low BP and adjustments to medication. Hope you have a sympathetic GP.

To all the DIYers on here, the Brue's are lacking in motivation, where do you get it from, can we buy it on line....? laughing

Welcome to tier 4 all that weren't previously members.

Brue this household has no mojo at all even basic necessities 🙁. We're finding ourselves being short with each other too 😱. I've tweaked my back which certainly isn't helping, the pain goes down my groin and into my thighs 😢 so anything that does require action is taking an age. Couldn't walk the dog this morning, OH gave her a short walk, but he's not up to more! So expect lively behaviour later, for now she's just resting in the lounge with me. Hopefully I'll be able to do a longer road walk later, but she's used to a good hour and more off lead run, and at 9 months has plenty of energy, so wasted on her when I could use it productively.

Very heavy frost here, expected to feel below freezing all day ❄🌬 but now grey after a bright start so that doesn't help. Have done plenty of TV watching, boring 🙁 catching up on recorded stuff too, knitting, reading, jigsaw in waiting, texting and phone calls etc so fed up as no one else very cheerful either. House is muddly, most unlike me, but no incentive to do anything about it. If I sort things out I have yet another pile that needs to be 'rehomed' so hardly makes a difference! I expect this situation will continue, as is restrictions, until the end of February- please can I be proved wrong?

Oh just read this back, brings me down but feel I should share 😉

Enjoy your day folks as best as you can. I could do with a cheer-up pill...........

Don't be too down with everything B2,  it's usual, if not actually normal, to become grumpy when the nights are long and the days cold or wet. You just have to exercise those stiff upper lips with a nice handful of mushy peas with a couple of short chopsticks, lubricated with the juice of two turnips !  You'd be surprised at how much better you'll feel when you look in the kitchen mirror after you've tidied up  wink

As for house not being as tidy as usual, just think I'm sitting here in the studio ( spare bedroom )  surrounded by a great pile of brown shoe, sans laces, all to be taken downstairs  for a severe polishing, but I've got 2021 plans to schedule, as well as seven different handbooks from various traders to work my way thro, each with it's own ' Voucher  for our Valued Customers ' to apply.  I can save a mint but it'll cost me about four mints if I go for it money-mouth  so I think I'll just open a packet of Fishermen's Friends - blindfold of course so I don' know  which flavour { that'll give me something else to reflect on }.

So  :~~  Cheer up, Stand up, and Pucker up   kiss
