Oh Congratulations to you and yours, Goldie

, at least you will have a new subject for your Dream-Times
!!Miserable damp grey morning in South Cheshire, but at least the birds are not eating me out of H & H today, and the bird baths will not need my ministrations I suppose.
Stay warm & dry everybody, not to mention Virus Free as well

Many congratulations to your family Goldie. 😁

In our family boys greatly outnumber girls, so it was fun yesterday ordering some lovely girly (but not too girly) clothes. We won't see them for some time, but already have some photos.
I hope you've not been too pessimistic and bought clothes for 2-3 year olds.
Congrats Goldie.Filthy day outside and that is being polite. Not much to be done with torrential rain and high winds and a lockdown.
Decided to rewire one of the speakers on our now aged sound system, only 20 years old but seemingly of another world. If this doesn't work then we are going to have to spend some serious money whenever we are allowed to. We'd prefer to spend it on this than a bigger TV etc. as we use our music system far more.

Same here WN. Don't think we're going to be able to do our daily walk today. Managed one yesterday afternoon, in the dry, for all of an hour and 20 minutes! It was only a walk from home we've done many times since lockdown, but it's still good to go for even a shortish walk.
Tomorrow afternoon looks like it might be dry, so pinning our hopes on that.........

It's strange how small things can be so uplifting at the moment like a walk for more than an hour. Just finished speaking to my brother who lives in France and they are back to 1 hour per day of outdoor exercise. I remember the first lockdown here in Wales. We were being exhorted to do the same. Being released from that was a godsend.

Yes, isn't it? We both felt really good after that walk yesterday, the sun was actually out for most of the time too, we only met about 5 people, and felt totally safe. Yes, heard about France on the news; I too remember the 1 hour exercise per day back in March.

Our boiler replacement is set to become a saga. Should have been completed yesterday, but hit a snag. It’s a human one, very very annoying, not only for us, but for the two teams of trades people who arrived yesterday, but could do nothing. This morning, a third person turned up, a rather nice electrician who had come to complete yesterday’s work. He wasn’t very pleased when we told him nothing whatsoever had happened yet.........
Anyway, house has been put back together, all the stuff we moved is more or less back where it needs to be, I have sanitised, cleaned and doused disinfectant everywhere, having had tradespersons crawling all over the house from attic to cellars. Great fun as we are in Tier 3, and haven’t had anyone other than Mum and Sis in house since March.
We await further surprises............🤷♀️

Horrible wet day again here. Nothing much doing so nothing really to say.
I've been doing boring things like housework, ironing and a bit of mask making.
The 'high tea' yesterday, went down really well with all those who took part. We even got a box as there were a few left over. Inside was 2 small filled rolls, a sausage roll, meringue, chocolate brownie, lemon drizzle cake and a scone with cream and jam + a tea bag
all tasted nice and went down a treat. Think it will take place again.Announced today our area is in tier 2, thought we would be. Was thinking of going north next week but as they are in tier 1 we might not be welcome
NTH, thanks for the link to searchforsites OH has the app on his phone, just needs to look at it

Congratulation, Goldie. Great news for all the family.
Hope that you soon get the boiler issue sorted, tda.
By the sounds of it we've been luckier than most weather wise, as 4 out of our 5 walks out with Flyte today have been in the dry so far. Had a drive along the coast towards Edinburgh and it did rain when we were in the car but with judicious stops we got away without getting wet. There has been plenty of comings and goings on the site but there are still not very many empty pitches. Tomorrow we head off back into England, where a 3 tier system is a lot easier to get one's head around, I think, than the 5 tier one that comes into effect in Scotland on Monday.

Congratulations Goldie, lovely news.
Our son and his girlfriend both received negative Covid test results this morning, both pleased, the covid like symptoms are obviously another virus.
Been a bit damp today, haven't done much, work, bit of housework. Heard that Oxford has moved up a tier, our area of Oxfordshire has reported more cases than the city so I expect we will be next.

Safe trip back into England Nellie.
Glad you enjoyed the high tea Tammygirl, sounds lovely.

Good news, Helen, and thanks.

Great news H&T you must be relieved.
The high tea was lovely, of course we shared ours

NTH the Scottish tier system is easy, no one is in the bottom tier and no one is in the top tier. Just 3 tiers like England, she just likes to be different and make a fuss

Pleased to hear your news Helen.
We've just had our one and only proper meal out tonight, had not enjoyed the prospect and won't be doing it again at the moment. The meal was in a hotel, quite a few visitors staying there, we were there very early so had a chat with the owner who said they'd been busy but they were expecting less visitors after this week and they were hoping the government would make a decision on closure.
It was a lovely meal courtesy of our oldest daughter, we were the only locals (over the border in Dorset
) but masks, sanitizers, spacing and special instructions just don't do much for me on a night out! Just hope we haven't mingled with the wrong molecules....0 -
Congratulations Goldie and all the family, wonderful news.
HelenandTrevor good news that your son and partner had negative results. It does however raise the issue that symptoms aren't distinct and exclusive!
Takethedogalong good luck with the new boiler saga, will you need to wait until your alert level drops before it can be started again?
Too many others, and I'll forget someone
, to mention but good to read your news and doings.Much as usual here, been WET - most unusual for here so wet puppy walks, not that she objects. Whilst walking earlier in the week in the local estate first thing I got quite a shock to see a chap emerging from a wooded area in a white body suit. Proved you shouldn't jump to conclusions as I got closer and wondered about lack of blue and white tape/vehicles etc. Turned out to be a beekeeper closing up the hives 😀. Much relief I can tell you.
Wet here again this morning, but meeting a friend and her dog for walk so that will be nice and within the guidelines 😉. Not long into this level and I'm really missing social interaction 😢.
Went to a new to me opticians, most impressed on precautions and the actual optician. Single vision contact lens to try, 2 lots of glasses, reading and distance for when I need them.as I have one short-sighted eye my own with a slight cataract and a lon-sighted one. She wasn't surprised I felt sea sick in my varifocals and I can save money by not having bifocal lens. Long story short my original opticians had been sold on a while back, still had my optician on furlough and I didn't like the atmosphere so I didn't persue my existing glasses issue. Buying the cheapest frames and lenses and awaiting their delivery before I try the daily contact lens. She also took a ?laser?photo of my eyes and wants to refer me to hospital to check out the imagine, it's the eye that had cataract op. Says nothing to worry about just wants to be certain as shes not seen me before 😱. Hopefully I'll be happy doing close work reading, knitting etc and less tired eyes will result.
Right must shift and start my day. Enjoy yours and stay safe folks.
Ps I'm still finding the site doesn't respond well or fast, despite the closures for essential maintenance so I'm still not liking posts! Out of interest has anyone noticed the wording on the notice? It says "trying to improve" 🤣
We're carrying out some essential maintenance to try and improve our services to you.
We'll be back shortly.0 -
Sounds like you had a good session at the new opticians Bakers2. Hope the glasses and contact lens improve everything, it will make a big difference by the sound of it.
TDA that sounds like an epic non event with the new boiler!!
I'm wondering if our boiler will ever get serviced, it has been repeatedly delayed.

I can’t say too much at the moment re our boiler. There was a polite but firm phone conversation on the day, and we are giving them a chance to have another go at getting things right. Nothing to do with the trades people who have all been great. Co ordination and communication however..............
Made much more difficult by being in Tier 3 as well.

Congratulations Goldie such lovely news. I hope you are getting lots of photos.
Good news Helen. You must be very relieved. I hope they both feel better soon. I have a feeling that the test centres are going to be overwhelmed in the next few months with all the winter viruses around. People are going to have to have a test if they have symptoms otherwise they can't go to work. Grand-daughter's partner had similar a few weeks ago. As grand-daughter is a teacher she had to take time off work until his test came back negative.
It sounds as though you had good service from your new optician Bakers2. I hope it makes a difference. I am in two minds about my cataract op now (if they ever contact me). I heard of someone recently who had to self isolate both before and after her op
. I am not sure I fancy that.TDA I hope you get your boiler sorted out soon. It sounds as though they need to go on a course to learn how to communicate.
Brue I am glad you enjoyed your meal out. We had a meal out last month and although it was fine, like you we have no wish to repeat the experience just yet.
Welcome back to England Nellie I hope you find the areas that are not in the high tiers and the rest of your trip goes well.
We are in tier 1 as our infection rate is relatively low at the moment but I have a feeling that we might be moved up a tier before too long. Cambridge has a high infection rate so they will probably be moved up a tier in the very near future but there was talk on the local news last night that it might include the whole of Cambridgeshire

Do you still have a means of heating and hot water?
We had a new boiler 18 months ago and BG were very efficient. Boiler delivered on day of install early on. One installer two and a half days. (he did have to move the new boiler to a different location) Electrician was here briefly, job done. Fortunately we had already had a Power Flush a couple of years before so we didn't need that done again. This was all before COVID so don't know if that is causing you a problem. Having said all that BG seem a bit reluctant to come out and do the first service, will have to chase them.Hope you get it sorted.
David

Good luck with that David, our boiler was new and we've only had one service so far! OH is going to chase it up again today, the conversation on here has reminded us.
I've just been reading up on the NHS App (as you do when it's a Friday morning and nothing better to do
) The Alan Turing Institute data makes interesting reading for the 19 million who have downloaded the App...have CAMC ever considered using a more high powered team to get this web site sorted?!
Server Error, server error......🐢

Thanks DK. Our hold up is all down to one rather inefficient surveyor, who didn’t do his job right, despite us pointing out the blindingly obvious to him. Compounded by communication issues from Head Office. It isn’t BG by the way, they did Mum’s a few years ago, one or two niggles with them, but on the whole pleased with what they did.
Yes, still have heat and hot water, not an issue. Felt very sorry for all workmen who turned up. We had four big vans queuing up to get in on Wednesday😱

Had to wait in for local builder to turn up this morning but in truth the weather was poor again so he probably did me a favour in being late.
I've ordered the necessary so he will do the job in the next week or two. He's normally reliable that way.
Looks like it's clearing up slightly and the forecast is dire for the weekend I best make the most of the opportunity and go for a walk.

Much better day today, no rain and fairly mild.
Food shopping this morning, visit to sister and BIL. Home for lunch and 2hours in the garden
Feel much better for doing something.
Boilers, ours is an lpg worcester bosch, installed by local plumber, serviced by them for the 5years it was under warranty. Now serviced by WB, we had it booked for August, checked it was going ahead. No problem at all, sister had hers done a few weeks latter.
Sorry yours is causing issues TTDA
NTH, hope the drive back to England went without a hitch.

NTH, hope the drive back to England went without a hitch.
He'll be looking for a B&B then.

Nice long walk this afternoon. Doesn't look likely with the forecast for tomorrow as it's either torrential rain or 50-60 mph winds. Or both!

All of this talk of boilers is making me queasy. Ours is 16 years old and I'm keeping everything crossed it carries on for a lot longer.
Speaker problem may be resolved. Another finger crossing item.

Not been too bad here today weather wise raining now though and it’s not looking good for the rest of the weekend. Got the trailer filled today so plan tomorrow is a run to the dump to get rid of everything. Hoping to get a weather window to get the car and caravan hoovered out and cleaned. Our local pub has started doing meal deliveries again to try and keep themselves ticking over so we ordered from them tonight and it was lovely good to try and help out a local business plus I’m friends with the owner .
Hope everyone else has a nice weekend

I can't understand why she chose to start at 0, and then say that even at that level there would be some restraints. Why not put 0 at the pre-covid level and work upwards from there, or is that too easy?

NTH, hope the drive back to England went without a hitch.
The hitch worked fine, but does creak a bit, and we made it to Alnwick in good time, so no need for the b&b.
Unfortunately we had a shower of rain just as we (I) unhitched but it passed through quickly. OH had done the week's wash before we set off, as the forecast was for sunshine, and was able to get it out and nearly dried by dinner time tonight. Flyte and I wandered off after lunch, leaving OH guarding the washing, and we found a new walk which we all may well extend after the weekend, weather permitting.0 -
Ours is coming up 25 years WN, and to be honest still working fine. But if we swop to a Combi, Mr Bicycle can squeeze in another bike where the cistern and header tank currently sit! Nothing interferes with the Bicycle Cave. Gives him a flat wall as well, so I suspect some sort of screen might materialise at some point. There’s a railway track to go round and round as well. I have asked him to rig up a Silent Butler for cups of tea🤣 There has to be space for a dog basket, they are joined at the hip. The dog will need a pulley system to get up there🙄 he’s a touch dodgy on stairs nowadays.
