DK - Why not do what the delivery people do these days. Put it on the doorstep, ring the bell and step back a few paces. No point being in a nark about such a trivial thing. Only time we had problems was with a previous neighbour who accused MiL of taking in a delivery and she hadn't. Almost accused her of stealing it until the Delivery company confirmed it was the neighbour on the other side who had it. Never did get an apology so we refused all parcels for them from then on and told them why.

Had a repeat performance last night of sleeping through the thunderstorms. Mrs WN disappeared to the other bedroom and said she could hear me snoring when the thunder wasn't going. Sorry to hear of the severe flooding up in Scotland and parts of Wales. We have been warned that weather will become more severe, one way and probably the other as well.

Too hot for work outside so we have concentrated on getting such bits for the caravan that we needed, plus a bit of food shopping early on. Hardly anyone in the shops which we appreciated.

RandR. I think you are right about age and heat. I feel the same.

Good to see people out and enjoying our hobby again.

We could see their back windows are open so Margaret took it round but no one opened the door. They have not long had a new baby so it's possible with the heat (at least 34 degrees today!) that baby and mum have not slept well so perhaps making up for lost time! We put another note through the door so will await a collection. We often take things in for the neighbours at the back of us but I can see them when they arrive home so I just nip out with any parcel.

Went to the chemist today to pick up my regular prescription. Was tempted to just drive around in the car with the air con on!!!

An absolutely fantastic day on the fells. Left Ambleside at 7 walked up past High Sweden but this time not over it but ahead up to Scandale pass  and Little Hart Crag (pic with stile) and High Harpsop Dodd, backtrack to the pass then Red Screes and Middle Dodd behind that. Then back to Ambleside by the main ridge overlooking the Kirkstone Inn (last pic)

Lovely hot day and missed the thunder storm but 10 minutes.

Went to the chemist today to pick up  my regular prescription.

I ordered mine on line late Friday afternoon, David. I accept that there is a 'seven day wait' so quite happy when the fone shewed a message for me yesterday, Tuesday,  lunchtime smile. So took a small carrier bag ( frown ) and strolled round before lunch.

Do you remember the Queueing outside such places just a couple of months ago undecided??  Not now, just one lady waiting for a new scrip to be filled then yours truly,  so I was back home within twenty (20) minutes and insulin straight into the fridge chopchop !

By 'eck, it was never like this when Moses was a lad surprisedlaughing

    P.S. / EDIT    I did notice that the pharmacy did have a large display of Masks, gloves and sanitizer all available at reasonable rates .  I'll put a note onto my prescription ordering papers to check on their continuing availability.  Think I might do a stock-take before my next prescription request goes in and / or the Second Surge takes place { OOOPS, should not have said that on a public Forum sealed }

Phew!  Too warm today for us!   And very humid.

The thunderstorms and rain passed us by, fortunately.

Our first day back looking after Callum, new regime when picking up from nursery.  Then, as he had not had a nap, I had to take him out in the pushchair for a while, he had a good snooze then and had to be wakened at 2.30.

He then had to go and sit in our car, he is fascinated  by all the Buttons and switches, and then help me repair the front door handle, which apparently he had broken.

The loft ladder for the garage arrived, so he helped unpack that, then we discussed where it should be fitted.

Tomorrow we have a painter coming at 9am, so if he needs someone to be here, I will be looking after Callum alone.

After the awful night we had last night,  today has been lovely, bright sunshine all day with blue skies nice and warm at 25c but of course it would be wouldn't it the kids went back to school here today.

Saw the little ones coming back home this afternoon, all looking rather tired and hot. The seniors on the other hand were all in high spirits, I think they are truly happy to be back at school, here's hoping it remains that way.

Same here robsail it didn't stop all night just kept going round and round, some of the thunder claps were very loud.

Awful news from the train derailment.

Arrived at Putts Corner CAMC site this afternoon.  After a dull and fairly chilly couple of days in Cornwall - in spite of the UK heatwave, we have arrived in East Debon to glorious weather and a great sunset to boot....

We needed to replace our small table that we use when having a cuppa outside the van (easier in a cup I know). So whilst passing Charlies, a retailer of general goods including camping, we popped in and found one for £10.

Whilst paying I noticed the masks near the till were security tagged and asked the young lady if people stole them? By the dozen was the reply but what was even worse is that customers were opening the packets to try them on and putting back in if they didn't like them!  So the shop had to move them to the sight line of the tellers.

It's getting harder to look out for oneself and loved ones.

CS -  Great day and photos.

Drove down to Cornwall this afternoon, watching the temperature on the car display dropping form 34° to 24° en route. All together more comfortable down here. Quick unpack, then up onto the dunes for the dogs to let off steam and back for a cuppa. Just had a few spots of rain but nothing to speak off but thunderstorms forecast for tomorrow!

Last week a swanky new static van appeared on the second field, so if anyone fancies a place down here there's one available ... er .... if you've got the odd  £75000 to invest! surprised

Started the " Evening Sparklers Show "  at about 21:30 hrs ( Half past nine to you lot   tongue-out  ) crashing away merrily but only normal rain with it tonight. Still not really cooling down much unless you are standing directly in the line of the wind but that means getting rained upon !

At least aged Sister will not need to water her garden, except for the pot plants in the garage -- if her eldest had heeded some well meant advice & left things alone, even those pots would have got their share this weekwink

It acts rather like one of Granny's old cures --  No guarantees given but it surely makes one feel soooo much better  wink

Weve had a mixed couple of weeks in Cornwall, Moulsey.  While the rest of the UK has had a heatwave, Cornwall has been quite cool and even autumnal at times.  Arrived on our pitch at Putts Corner and our neighbours greeted us with, 'Wecome to Southern Spain'!!  😃😃

I suspect that if the situation is still the same this time next year you won't be the only one looking to change. It seems at the moment that campsites are fine if all you want to do is sit around the van all day but it becomes more difficult once you want to get out and about and resume all the things you did before. Funnily enough the other day we were counting up the number of times we had actually gone somewhere since the end of March. I don't mean things like walks but say a visit to a garden centre or even to Boots Opticians etc and there were not many more times than say a dozen. Unless they find a workable vaccine by the end of the year there will be many reconsidering what, if anything, they do next!!!

    David

PS still waiting for it to get light today. so dull outside.

Still positively tropical here, as DSB will have found out overnight, the idea of cool has vanished. wink I could see electric storms in the distance to the west, but nothing our way. There is an unpleasant dank smell around due to the humidity...or it might be the visiting badger.

DK and JVB, we were thinking about a change this year but we're actually glad we've kept the M/H at the moment as it provides our own environment not someone else's. Two of our adult children are using self contained pods/ancient caravans owned by friends this year and our eldest, on her Dad's instructions got the deposit back from TUI on the third failed holiday. Somehow the M/H has come into it's own.

I read that some on here go to shops more often but neither of us want to visit anything like we might have done previously, the weekly trips to town have gone.  Judging by the emptiness in our town yesterday I don't know how the remaining retailers will survive. So we're trying to make sure we get out to other places like gardens and country areas and manage with the home deiveries for food etc.

The dentist remains the big mystery...will my teeth last before I set foot there once more!?

Trish, go straight up the M5, M6 M74, M80, M9 and upwards along the A9 where you head off towards Thurso or on towards Wick. We're down in Somerset and that's the fastest route but don't attempt it in one go, take a couple of overnight stops en route.  Living in S Somerset we usually overnight N Lakes or the Moffat area then another stop N of Perth, depends on how much driving you want to do each day. I love Caithness, hope you have a good trip! smile

Yep, as Brue said. We usually overnight in Staffordshire, Moffat and Perth.

There are loads of threads in UK Sites & Touring about routes around Scotland.

Beautiful sunny day here in North Wales, although we are promised the usual fireworks later.

We haven't found it a problem with the 2 trips we've made with the caravan, both to CLs, one full the other half full. We're outdoor types so have found plenty to do with walking and cycling. A visit to a NT place which was well organised, 2 trips to different large Pubs/Restaurants which was handled extremely well by both establishments. I do think you can become too static if you don't make an effort to normalise a little bit of what you used to do.

We've got ourselves organised for food deliveries/click and collect and now seem to know when the supermarkets are at their least busiest. I've click and collected from the library and been to the chemists (2 only allowed in). We mask up if necessary and avoid crowded places. Not much else we can do to minimise things except don't go out. We still sanitise all parcels and shopping and have hand gels everywhere.

It's going to be a long winter, I think, and we want to make the most of the little bits of freedom we have now.

No criticism intended here. Each to their own. You have to work out your own needs and try not to overlook the effect of your actions/inactions on your mental welfare. Best of luck to one and all.

Another day for doing not much. We are those reprehensible caravanners who don’t go off hiking up great hills every day.

Get up late, breakfast (made by OH nut not difficult as it’s either toast or bacon sandwiches). Wash up (me), then sit in the shade, reading for a few hours. Today I as slightly less idle as I made some bread buns for the burgers tonight. Now nibbling grapes and drinking G and T.

And it’s hot, we’re grateful for the shade of a tree on almost the last pitch left when we arrived on Monday.

P.S there is right way to fly a Union Jack isn’t there? Do I have to go over to someone obviously in distress ? I think I’ve got it right - it’s a long time since I was a Sea Ranger.

Much like WN we haven't found a great deal of difference when we have been away. We had almost a month away in July split between Yorkshire and Lancashire and got done most things we would have done anyway. I done a lot of cycling and we went out most afternoons and visited a museum or similar only difference being most of the time we had to book in advance but not too much of a problem. We also ate out a few times and visited a few pubs all well organised again a bit different as we were told where to sit in most of the pubs but still enjoyed ourselves. Getting away in the caravan again has brought back a bit of normality for us and we have been away every weekend since we got home. couldn't do without it to be honest we look forward to getting away in it at weekends and we do have a few longer trips booked that should be happening later in the year. Same as WN im certainly not being critical of anyone else who feels differently just putting our experience across that for us the way we use our caravan hasn't much changed.
