Not the best of days today, to say the least!  First thing this morning when I was doing my Cinnamon Trust dog walking we were confronted by several police vehicles, a couple of ambulances and fire crews and the Wiltshire air ambulance. An elderly Lady had been discovered face down in the river - apparently still alive but extremely poorly. No details on whether she slipped or exactly what happened. But she was taken off in the air ambulance to Bath RUH. Doubtless there will be an update on local news tonight.

Then when I got back home there was an email from Dad's care home to say that they are suspending all visits because they had had a new case of Covid. He was tested again last week and it came back negative so that's reassuring. Managed to speak to him on the phone and he appears ok about things though it's very difficult because his hearing is so poor.

What's that saying about things coming in threes? frown

We visited Chillingham Castle last year.  It is the most surreal, weird, spooky (run out of adjectives!) place we have ever been.  I think it could be nice, but frankly it isn’t.  Too weird for us, perhaps you need to visit with a different mindset.  Have never felt to need to visit again! The garden is quite good though.

Been a funny sort of day here, dull and damp to start with then mizzle then lovely sunshine for about 4 hours, we now have heavy rain.

BIL arrived this morning and went straight up stairs to the attic room. Its like a bedsit up there so he has been quite happy. When the sun came out he came down and sat outside watching OH doing some woodwork. The Men's Shed are setting up some beehives, OH has been making the staging for the hives to sit on.

We went out at lunchtime to visit his eldest brothers grave, it would have been his 70th birthday today. We met up with his niece and took some flowers up with us. frown

Tomorrow I'm to cut and perm my sister's hair surprised mask and face shield worn of course, should be fun.

It was quite ruinous I believe until Humphrey Wakefield bought it in 1982. His third wife is a Grey, they were family who owned it. He restored it and filled it full of his antiquarian collection, and restored knick knacks. It’s big on Ghost Tours now. Gardens look lovely though. I think the Estate is in different ownership, not sure. At least it’s still in one piece, not left just to crumble. I am sure at some point we shall get around it, I think it’s part of HHA now.

Just popped in to see how the Essential Mtce went last night, and rite now its qwite kwik but the spelle cheque still not werking.

Millie,  Commiserations about your bad news. When my nephew died early in Lockdown, I told the other relatives I would be at the Crem in my camper. I refrained from going inside as I thought it too risky at that stage although the Undertaker said 30 people allowed in ! Not heard of any others of that size, mainly 5 to 8. Still, I'm very sorry to hear your news.

Food delivery in the rain this morning, slightly easier as elderly neighbours have opted out this week (their family finally visiting at the weekend after Welsh Border Controls end! wink) Looks like a rainy walk around Stourhead too then the farmshop and compost delivery on return.

Re Chillingham, have no interest in the "spooky" house but would like to see the wild cattle. Have booked to see son and family in the NE mid September and am pondering whether to do a round trip over the Borders or a direct trip via Yorks and E coast. Have booked the Lakes in November...so will be up and down like a yo-yo. laughing

Mixed day weather wise today, got the washing out 2 loads and dried then we had a heavy rain shower.

Big sister came out late morning, so I set to cutting her hair then perming it for her. Its been a long time since I've permed any ones hair so took me a bit longer than I would have liked but we had a good laugh and a good catch up on how their new kitchen and windows are progressing.

BIL and sis now left for their home, workers should have finished for the day. They will have to wipe everything down and make sure its all sanitised.

Off to the shops tomorrow morning for the usual weekly shop. Don't need to get anything for sister this time as she is not having any problems now getting slots for on line shopping and most things seem to be in stock.

Dry walk this morning, which we got rather carried away on, taking a bit longer to get home.

Sorted out our gas boiler service for one of the weeks we are definitely home in July and also managed to have a good telephone consultation with the Nurse at the surgery about my annual review. No need to visit now as it can be done by telephone as I have a B.P. machine etc.

Been a wet and horrible couple of days, we've had every variety of rain. Now its mizzle as we are in the low clouds or sea mist.

had a phone call today from my medical centre, I am now recommended to stay isolated or maintain as best as possible at least 2m distance at all times for another 3 months, a bit strange if the PM says 1st August! what does my med centre know that the PM dosn't ?

Anyway due to the weather, I did a bit more inside the MH, the seat cushions are held in place by pop studs, half of them were missing or in a poor state, so spent a pleasant morning with the radio on  fitting new studs and poppers, all soft furnishings now fully secured. I also completed the wiring for the external waterpump, for filling the internal tank, using aircraft grade 2 pin plug and socket and a couple of switches so the pump can be run from inside while watching the level meter or from outside when initial filling. Which will increase my water capacity from 34ltrs to 57ltrs plus 10lts from the extra container I will have onboard if needed, however the new tank now has float valve so can be connected to a tap and left so water supply can be unlimited if needed, its just the waste I have to worry about!

otherwise a quiet day here. hope yours goes well.

An overcast but warm day, went up to the Tyne and along its northern shore to Wallsend or Segedunum as it was known to the locals a few years ago, why I hear you ask? Well apart from being famous for the location of first school I taught at 37 years ago this September, it is the only station in the UK with signage in Latin.

Then up to St Mary's island. A few chips and ice creams along the way too.

A different day today.  My first time in the Cathedral for 4 months.  It was so good to be back in this lovely building but also very different. I started off the day feeling both excited and nervous as I didn't know what to expect. All was fine.  There were 3 of us volunteers on duty plus a few members of staff popping in and out to make sure all was OK. (most of them are still on furlough though) The visitors that came to pray or meditate were very appreciative and very careful about social distancing. We had to make sure everyone used the hand sanitiser on entry and exit and we hand to sanitise all the chairs between visits. Every one was also quite prepared to write their contact details down for our track and trace register.  All in all a very good morning.  Back again next week unless they need me in the meantime but they seem to have plenty of willing volunteers at the moment. We are open for general visiting from next week from 10 - 4 so beginning to get back to some sort of 'normal'.

We had many happy visits to the grounds of Raby Castle when staying with FIL. The children used to like looking for the deer. We couldn't afford to go in the house in those days but did visit when staying at the Castle Barnard site a few years ago. Loved it.

We had hoped to see the Chillingham Wild Cattle when stayingat the River Breamish site a few years ago but for some reason it didn't work out but I can't remember why.  We loved the site though and had a wonderful 10 days there. So much to see and do in the area.

Pleased to hear that your neighbours' family can come and visit them now brue. They will be glad of the support.

We are hoping to visit Easton Walled Gardens sometime next week as they have extended their Sweet Pea week this year.  We are usually away and miss it.  I always buy their sweet pea seeds which are excellent.

Gosh you had a day of it the other day moulesy.  So sorry to hear that your Dad's care home have another case of Covid.  Another worry for you. I hope you will be able to visit him again soon and all will be well for him. Any news of the poor lady that was found?

Getting a bit worried about your diet Corners.

Bacon Butties? Chips? Ice-Cream? You'll never get up those hills if you carry on like this. You need to start on the cottage cheese and crackers. No need to thank me for the advice.smile

    ps nice piccies again.👍

This website is driving me crackers at the moment. I like to “like” interesting and helpful posts, but it’s taking an age every time I do one, so please take it as read that I am interested in posts, but I have given up “liking” tonight.

My first venture out in a mask today. I decided to do our local Aldi. It was empty when I first went in, so really nice, but then it seemed to be “thickies go shopping”after 20 minutes. I had to fend one or two off with my trolley. Honestly, I do wonder at some people🙄Then on driving towards our little street got there to find small group of low lives passing little packages and money around, phoned non emergency police, but there was a wait of 20 minutes, did I want to wait? I gave up. No point they would be long gone before anyone even answered call. It doesn’t happen often round us, but we are keen to get anything sorted so that they are moved on. We have no dedicated officers, or neighbourhood watch, have to do things for ourselves.🤷‍♀️

Millie, I so envy your Cathedral visit. We love visiting different churches, they are so interesting. Hope things go well.

Not too bad a day here, some sun off and on.

Today  was our 51st wedding anniversary, so OH went out to get supplies for a special meal.

She went to Aldi, which she said was not particularly busy,  then to our nearby Lidl on the way home, which also was not busy.

So for dinner we have had Coronation Chicken Flatties (M&S) with baked potatoes, tenderstem broccoli, and roasted veg (aubergine, courgette, peppers and mushrooms), followed by home made vanilla ice cream, banana and chocolate sauce.  Accompanied by some Prosecco to celebrate.  All very tasty!

TDA. replying to your comment about people in supermarkets. One of the friends I had coffee in the garden with last week said when was choosing her fruit and veg in the supermarket one woman stood so close to her that she turned round to her and said "do you want to put your arm round me?'. The woman backed off. That said after I finished at the cathedral yesterday I nippoed into Wilko - my first visit for months - it was all very civilised and people were very respectful. However I was very disappointed that there was no hand sanitiser at the entrance and no means of sanitsing the trolleys. Luckily I had a pair of plastci gloves from the Cathedral in my pocket.

    Congratulations Mr and Mrs Kjnn.

Busy day here already. Had a phone call appointment from consultant regarding blood test results always an anxious time but all good things progressing as they should do a relief for us this morning. We are due to head off next week for 3 and a half weeks in the van we were booked on to Ferry Meadows but have just changed it this morning and are now going to Yorkshire instead it’s less of a drive for us and SWMBO was anxious about going too close to Leicester (I know we have argued the point on this for the last few nights but she feels better staying further north so that’s what we are now doing anything to keep her happy lol) Must admit I am looking forward to going back to Yorkshire we were supposed to be going last year but health issue stopped us so we will make the most of it this time looking forward to a walk along the seafront at Scarborough and a trip to Whitby. Quite nice weather here today but rain forecast for later this afternoon.

We did our pre-booked visit to  NT Stourhead yesterday afternoon. A good but longer than expected walk following a one way system. A bit of a strange experience but at least we gave it go. After Saturday I expect it will be harder to get a booking.

We're expecting the holiday traffic to start Friday night, the rush to the southwest begins!

Just finished washing the van ready for an early getaway on Saturday morning. Not going far - to a CS near Malton and about an hour away from home.  Just looking forward, so much, to having a change of surroundings.

Quite sensibly, the CS owner isn't allowing day visitors so we won't be entertaining our friends in Malton to a lunchtime BBQ - so we'll be taking it to their house!  They love BBQ food but don't do them, themselves.

Although I know it will be a very different experience, it will be so good to get back to some form on normality.

The In-laws once rented a property for a holiday only to find a Weir ran behind it. The Father-in-Law spent so much of the spare time in the "Petty" that he was in danger of having to sleep there.smile

A drab day here. MiL wanted to have a go at catching the bus to town today. She'd heard that passengers are still sparse on them and thought it might be the best time to try. So she and Mrs WN toddled off to wait, a good 10 minutes before said bus was due. 20 minutes later the bus driver waived at them going the other way. He'd already been, gone and was going back. That's the problem. Without passengers slowing the bus down the drivers are too stupid to pull in to a few stops and recalibrate back onto schedule. They'd rather sit at the terminus complaining about lack of passengers, which they were doing yesterday when we stopped off in town to get the timetable.yell

MiL needs to know she can rely on them if and when we go away. I've been delegated to write an angry email to them.undecided Such is my life now.
