Another early start, this time to Seaham. A lovey hot day again and we missed the predicted rain. Got even hotter in the afternoon.

A third baking hot day in a row!
(I'm not going to say anything about "needing a drop of rain"
). Still trying to persuade Mrs M that it'll be safe to venture abroad in September - I've got my eyes on a walking holiday in the Italian lakes - hoping to try out some of the language I've been relearning during the lockdown. We've another "appointment" to see Dad on Wednesday, so going to have to brush up on the semaphore!

My turn to cook tonight - fortunately the village pub have just started doing take aways so it's fish & chips with mushy peas for two!

We have had another sweltering day as well, but...a big thunderstorm with plenty of rain, so I don’t need to water garden this evening.😁 Hot and sunny again now. Tomorrow is looking dodgy though....

Our pub is doing good takeaways too and I've looked up the pubs near where we're staying on our little break in July and they're doing the same so hope they'll still be doing this for a while. One place has a good community shop which I've used before so happy to use if we run out of supplies. Although it will be a bit of a new experience I'm looking forward to a break from routine. Just hoping the new dog is ok overnight in the van, she's been fine on our day trips out.
Hope you find an alternative site TG, all the sites look very busy in the SW, I doubt we'd get a CL but hope to book one after the initial rush.
No heat here today, pleasant temperature and breezy. Didn't get much done as cat decided to get me up in the night, meowing rather a lot at 2am! 🐱 (He rarely disturbs us, a very laid back character.)

Tammy, UK campsites allow you to narrow searches down so you could just ask for adult only sites and they then list them in county.
Rain first thing but cleared up by 10.30. Restricted our walk to just 2 hours as thunderstorm forecast but, of course, didn't materialise.
Mrs WN says we need a break, doesn't matter if it's nearby so will have to start looking for a cl for about 3 weeks time. Have a blood test before then and the caravan goes in for a service as well so 3 weeks is still earliest we can get away, providing we're allowed of course.

Thanks brue and WN, I'm sorted now for July, just have to start on August
I've now got 4 nights at Tarland (non facility) , 3 at Cruden Bay, 3 at Buckie, 2 nights near Stranraer ( all 3 CL's) then 2 nights at Culzean Castle, main site but probably won't use facilities. Craigie Gardens was a fraction cheaper but full and with staying at the C&CC site you get full access to the NT grounds. We will be going home between some of the visits but that's fine as we have a few appointments to keep. Not sure where August will take us but now hoping September will see us in France
The Kuga has now been collected and the money is in the bank

We've stayed at two Cheshire CLs Francis, Stonyford Cottage Gardens and Nursery and Hollins Green Farm both ok. Also the C&CC Delamere Forest site which is next to a station for Chester, good walks and cycling round there too.

We had a heavy rain shower just before we got up, but soon dried off. Set off for our morning walk and just as we got to the playing fields received a call from Heating engineer, could he call round in 10 mins instead of during the afternoon, as he'd had a couple of cancellation!! So a rapid dash home by OH while I continued our walk. Half way round and it started to rain, but brolly kept most of it off me. Job was nearly complete by the time I got back. Cooler afternoon but sun did come out, although it has clouded up again and the wind is much cooler now. Plenty of rain forecast for the weekend, unfortunately.

Dull but warm all day here, just a little light rain. Thunderstorms seem to have passed us by so far.
Went down to the village to post a parcel and do some shopping. OH thought of going into M&S until she saw the long queue! Went to Aldi instead, queue much shorter. Had a list from DD for Aldi stuff, they are doing a weekly click and collect at Asda, but are missing their usual Aldi stuff, plus Callum uses Aldi nappies.
Home for a late lunch, bit of a rest, then did some more tidying in my hobby room. Only just started on it, so still a very long way to go. 🙁

We have had numerous phone calls from the american lady about Amazon Prime membership and also had the email about our TV licence. We had a new phone call some months ago from someone who said that the warranty on our washing machine needed renewing. OH had a wonderful time with him as we had only just bought a new one. 'Oh really, when does it run out? I thought it ran for longer' 'I can't remember off hand how much I was paying - can you remind me?'. Then when OH asked which make of washing machine he was talking about the the guy rang off.
We have a lovely Lido here. Built in the 1930s. I learned to swim there. A lot of money was spent on refurbishing it some years ago and it is now beautiful but sadly it is not open this year and I am not sure when or if it will open again as Vivacity the charity that ran all our leisure services so well has just handed the contract back to the local council as they have run out of money.
I had a good day last Monday. I usually have coffee once a month with a group of close friends that I used to work with and of course we haven't seen each other since the end of February. One of our group asked if we would like to have a socially distanced cup of coffee in her garden. It was so wonderful to see everyone again as apart from one of them who had stopped to knock on our door for a socially distanced hello when she was out for a bike ride with her husband I hadn't seen any of my friends since we went on holiday at the beginning of March. We all said that we were all quite nervous about going out after all this time but it had made us all feel so much better. It was great to put on some decent clothes and make up!! OH had a good birthday on Tuesday. The family all came to see him but at different times as we can't all be together yet so we had a day of socially distanced chatting in our garden. Thank goodness the weather was good and not too hot. Since then the weather got hotter and hotter so we haven't done much at all. Lots to catch up with today now that it is cooler.
I am pleased your car sale went through OK Tammygirl. Are you going to get the Picanto now? Our eldest son and his family had one for a few years as their second car and I really liked it.
Brue Yesterday I came across our photos of the walk to St. Benet's from Ludham Bridge . I think you did that walk as well? I seem to remember that the day we did it was almost as hot as this week and the walk back was quite an endurance test!

I am looking forward to some meet ups too Millie, glad you all managed to see each other.
Yes, Ludham and a very hot walk for us too, although you wouldn't think it from Mr Brue's attire, I think the shorts appear only on the rarest of occasions.
Our old "Min" was with us that year in her chariot, a lovely walk, no-one else doing it and nice to see to see you and Oneputt during that holiday!

Much fresher here today ,it rained overnight which has refilled the pond and water butts (no thunder storms so far these last hot days)
OHs birthday yesterday ,good run up as her Son and Partner came over Thursday and anounced, now engaged, its taken six years for that so do not expect wedding in near future

Grand daughter and "present" boyfriend came with gifts yesterday (we had fish and chips from local chippy)
House now full of flowers (four bouquets) and two pot plants, and 43 cards taking up all available level surfaces
It is our Anniversary tomorrow and including todays post another 19cards to find places for

So far 11 invitations to vist when on our tours and = meetups on sites asking if we can forward our itineraries if available for this year

Dry day so far, skies a bit grey but you can tell the sun is up there
still warm and no wind. Not done much this morning as been 'talking' about what to do and what needs to be done before we head off. Can't seem to get a hold of the dealer to tell him I'm going for the Picanto, have left messages but no call back so far.
Going out this afternoon to my sister and BIL's, they have a problem with their bathroom sink so OH going to go and sort it.
One of our neighbours 3 gardens along has put up a double gazebo so guessing its going to be a party. Hope they observe the rules up here, no more than 8 folk and no more than 2 other households
if that is observed i'll eat my hat. They break the rules almost every day. Could be a noisy night.

Lovely photos brue, especially of your happy little dog in her chariot. Yes it was really good to see both of you and OP that holiday. We should have been there at the moment but all cancelled of course

I had never heard of St Benets, looks our kind of visit when next in area.
Min looked full of character brue, as are most of them💖

Took a ride (car this time) into Weardale stopping at Wolsingham for cakes and Stanhope for chips. When the sun was out it was hot but it also rained heavily too.
Interesting and lovely places, Weardale and Stanhope, for anyone passing that way, a good visitors centre (closed atm) and a fossilised tree in the Church grounds which is 320 million years old.
Try as I might I just can't imagine or comprehend 320 millions year!

Yes a lovely place and great photos, we hired a day boat last year and moored up just next to it, had our lunch and then paid it a good visit.

A showers old sort of a day today. Morning walk was taken under our brollies, then after lunch our son and DIL without their little dog arrived, having driven up from West Midlands. Molly the dog has recently undergone 3 operations to remove growths in her mouth, and the vet won't do another should it come back, so they are taking her to places that she's liked in the past before the final goodbye. So we headed off to the beach so that she could have a paddle in the sea. Of course we got caught in a couple I f short rain showers, but both dogs love their time m e on the sands and in the water. We then had fish and chips in our cars, overlooking the water.
It sounds as if I'm going to get wet again shortly as the rain has started once more. At least I don't have to water the garden tonight. OH is pleased as she's been able to make a hair appointment for a week on Tuesdays.

I went out yesterday morning to local garden centre to see if they had fence posts. On return and having parked the car I was walking back to shut the gate. Local postie was there and, instead of putting mail in the post box, waved and put it on top of the hedge, I asked what he was doing delivering mail on a Sunday. He said it was Saturday.

Sorry double post. Is it me or us this site playing up again? 🤔

Milliehull it isn't you the site is testing us all 😉 edit EasyT posted as I was typing. It's the site in my world too! Marginally better than of late 🤐
Much cooler morning here, almost chilly by recent standards 😱 there's a breeze too. I must say I'm glad it's cooled somewhat. 31c in the deep shade in our garden was too mighty! The humidity increased as the week went on, so I have been able to catch up on jobs I had been doing the bare minimum for several days!
Our blockpaving looks great worth the money and the wait as the sealant needed to be done twice - it had never been sealed so sucked it up like blotting paper. Felt very sorry for the guys especially whilst doing the last coat on Wednesday a really hot day, but not the hottest! They had trouble locating a supply!
I managed to get the pots back, all 27 of them, in position yesterday as it was cooler and they compliment each other. All things considered the grass stood up well to the odd pot that didn't have a slab or surface off the ground to sit on. I shifted those despite the heat, as it had been almost a week. Pots have crept back as whilst we were motorhoming they were extremely reduced to accommodate trips 😢.
Can't believe it's a week since we saw son and DIL. Was hoping to see them again but he returns to work on 2nd, they give them their birthday off so he gets an extra day! So that's a double edged issue. I'm sure we'll catch up before too long but harvest isn't far off 😱. But it was lovely to catch up, not seen him for 4 weeks and then it was a brief stare at as we collected our puppy from their way and our DIL since January.
Now starting to progress on mums house, probate through, so hoping to get it on the market very soon - be interesting to see what prices are going to do now. It needs a lot of work but is liveable with great aspects front and rear. Fabulous project so I'm hoping it goes to a family who will cherish it! Still lots of clearing of cupboards but we have made progress. Homeless charity still interested in furniture, crockery, cutlery etc we don't want. Just need some energy and cooler weather and not to be overly sentimental.
Naturally the weather will be unsettled, sorry folks, I've booked someone to paint the outside of our house, always been DIY and fit around the weather, they are expected this week.
EasyT I know exactly where you are on days of the week. It wasnt always easy before, sometimes even when I worked 😱, but now...........
Stay safe folks, I'm enjoying reading about your days even if I can't recall enough about them to reply. I once tried to check a post but had to change the page, lost everything I'd written 😤🤐. Don't attempt it now!
EDIT I almost forgot, my hairdresser is opening and I have an appointment 😀, sadly not until the 16th and then only if things don't go belly up! Can't wait!

It's been explained by Justin in the Maintenance thread.
The cache system now refreshes every 2 minutes. The time taken for new posts to appear depends where in that 2 min cycle we are so posts can take up to 2 mins to appear, although usually it's much less.
It's not a fault but is the way it works now - for better or worse.🤷♂️

You may remember I posted the pic below and said I would find out what it was?
It is, or was, one of several coal staithes where coal from the local collieries would be tipped directly down into the ships below. There would have been extended wooden platforms with rails to bring wagons right to the edge above the ships as shown in the 'past' picture taken in 1968.

Another then and now. The first taken from the same point as the above but looking westwards along the Wear towards Queen Alexandra bridge. The past picture shows what the area looked like about 60 years ago. You can see the bridge top left and you can just see one the coal staithes middle left where I took the now photograph
