Nice to hear from you HelenandTrevor. Love the idea of your photo jigsaw.

Wish we could meet our daughter and family in the flesh 😢. Its 2.5 years now and no idea when NZ will open their borders to the UK even if OH given clearance to fly. And why would we suggest they come from, a hopefully soon to be COVID19  free country into this? 🤐 . No new cases for 14 days yesterdays and the last person infected is better. Soooo jealous. Did get a stare at our son 2.5 weeks ago, but that was brief.

I started a jigsaw last time the weather was off, still only the outline done - not been in the mood today, but that's lightening now.

We have full waterbutts, ours fill from the roof very quickly 😀, but the pond is still 5 inches down, not particularly noticeable topped up. Been heavy but not silly and breezy but not overly strong.

Did achieve getting the ironing done, not much but took an age as I couldnt be bothered and any distraction was accepted grateful 😂

Beautiful Rose's milliehull and I love the tea caddy takethedogalong.

Noticed we have several fruits on our tomatoes, awaiting germination if runner beans.

    Stay safe, stay cosy brrrr

Oh forgot to mention received probate for my mum, went in on 1 April signed off 29 May. Don't think that's helped my mood today! Time to think about the next steps 😢

Puppy has seen her first rain, not fazed, heard her first thunder not fazed, bit of a runabout in the garden but mainly chewed - her things and is asleep again 😇. Still nipping which is tiresome but possibly a bit less today.

Suits me as I'm energy less again 🤨 but sore throat gone again thankfully.

Turned out a really nice day, when I finally managed to give myself a shake.

OH spent all day sorting out where the new gates for the drive are going to go. Digging up the Cotoneaster's that are all along the front fence is going to take awhile, one done this afternoon, his back is now killing him.

I tackled the other side of the front garden, all the daffs are now finished and the leaves gone yellow so they have all been cleared up. Garden looking good. smile

brue how are you feeling today? so much for the adverts saying you can get a test.

Helen and Trevor, how lovely that you were able to see your youngest son and his girlfriend. It sounds like you had a really good day. Glad the weather held out for most of it. I love the idea of the jigsaw.

I did similar when I was trying to fit a rear light, but with less disastrous results. I managed to drop the whole unit, from a simile height, but fortunately all that resulted was a slightly dented casing, and the light is working fine. I just wish they would  supply decent instructions for fitting and operation, instead of having to work it all out by ones self.

We too had some rain overnight but it couldn't have been that heavy as the ground was nearly dry when we got up. Wind was still high in the morning but has gradually died down during the day, and no more rain. Cleaned the car this afternoon and did a bit of tidying up in the garden as the top soil was a good bit softer than of late. Nice sunny and warm evening now.

Nice here too today.  No rain, or wind, lots of sun, but not too hot.

Emptied out the shed, yet again, to look for a bit for the BBQ for DD, did not find it!

We gave our Outback 3 burner gas BBQ we bought in 2015 to DD last year as we had hardly used it, but the weather was not good for BBQing  last year, so they used it for the first time last weekend, and found the drip tray was missing.

We cannot remember this drip tray, and cannot find it, but DD is sure there was one, so insisted we search for it as a new  one would be £41....but is not available at present.

So  I have dragged all manner of stuff out of the shed....again.......found a right load of rubbish that needs to be disposed of.....when the tip is accessible.....but no drip tray.  I do however have some sheet aluminium that can be made into a drip tray once  I know the size.

The shed is in a bit of a bad way, needs some TLC very soon, so another job OH has put on my list.  We have been away so much since I retired that a lot of things have been neglected.

FaceTime with DD and Callum late afternoon, and some good news.  As Callum was not upset at not being able to hug us the other day, we are invited down there tomorrow as it is DD's  birthday and she has some afternoon tea to share with us, just hope it is decent weather, otherwise it will be called off!

While we were chatting, SIL went out, apparently to visit his parents.....yes, the parents he fell out with the other day!  DD said she was not sure why he was off there as they had been round to see Callum today already.

Turns out they had asked if they could visit on Wednesday so DD said they could come for 5 minutes to make sure Callum was not upset, but they did not turn up,  nor on Thursday,  nor Friday, but came today and stayed about 15 minutes, outside.

Meanwhile, SIL had called in past to them one day, looked in the front window and saw his younger sister's best mate, who lives with her, sitting inside on the sofa......so he left.

Soooo......plenty of supposedly intelligent people (the parents are both retired teachers)  not bothering to follow the rules......no much wonder the  country has so many cases!

I think we have had everything today except snow!!! Even that was a close run thing as we had a lot of hailstones! Thunder and Lightning and heavy rain - even had sunshine!!! I preferred the weather we had during the lockdown!!!

    Might it be worth something?

They are only going to spoil outside, so I fetch mine in and enjoy them for a few days😁 I only have a three roses now that only flower once, the rest repeat, so hopefully, with a bit more sunshine, they will come back. I like to cut flowers from garden.

Nellie, sadly MIL is no longer with us. She passed away a good few years ago, but there’s hardly a day passes that we don’t think about her, or something reminds us. She was a very lovely lady, greatly missed by all her family and friends. We were very close.

They’re not rare, a few on eBay. Some are in a ropey condition though. Might get £50 from a collector, ours is in good nick. Don’t dismiss the buttons, depending on what they are, sometimes buttons can go for a surprising amount. Some could be ivory, pearl, shell, etc..... I make jewellery and knit and old buttons are of great interest. Look out for military ones.....👍

My Mum was a seamstress and I have a big tin full of buttons from her. I used to love playing with them when I was a child. Our DIL has taken some for her hats (she is a milliner) and also for embellishing some cushions thst she hss made.

I too have an old Black Magic tin full of buttons that belonged to my Grandma and then my Mum who would always cut the buttons off everything laughing I can almost always find a button to match in the tin.

KjellNN I am impressed that you have been good and only seen your Grandson at a distance, the partner of my boss has been looking after her Grandson for several weeks, she was most put out when I said she was putting other people at risk. Some of our neighbours have had visitors in their house since the start of lockdown too.

Bright morning here I have some new plants that our son gave me yesterday, well he put them in the car boot!  So will have to work out where I can put them, our garden is only small. One is a lovely purple Basil that I can keep inside it smells great.

We had the same problem with an outback 3 burner, except ours was an older version and the drip tray had perished.  We bought a drip tray from ebay, slightly too small but adapted it.

We would love to be able to help look after him as DD is struggling with putting in the required hours working at home, as well as doing most of the looking after of the little lad, but she would not allow that to happen as they are sticking to the rules, and also worrying about us as we are both in our 70s.

The childcare thing is a bit of a conundrum, as B2 was saying the other day.  Fairly soon,  nurseries and childminders will be allowed to open again, so Callum will go and mix with several other children, and adults, who are in turn mixing with their own families, who are going out and about to work and schools.  But he will not be allowed to be with us, who are not meeting up with anyone else, not going to work, only shopping, carefully, generally once a week.

DD will be working at home till at least January, but SIL is back at school tomorrow to plan for full time opening in August, so DD will have no help at all with childcare for the next 3 weeks.  Come August, she will likely have to send Callum full time to nursery, normally we (4) grandparents do the afternoon shifts.

IMO that may well make it more dangerous for us to then be with him at all, who knows what he, and SIL, may bring home!  Lots of people going to be in exactly the same situation.

Another lovely sunny day here again and quite warm too the same as yesterday. I got up early this morning and done a nice 23 mile cycle along the coast towards Largs it’s nice going out at that time of the day and it avoids the crowds. Having a nice relaxing rest of the day just sitting out the back garden and I might also give the Volvo a wash as the local seagulls seem to have taken a liking to using it as their toilet. May cook out on the BBQ later SWMBO ordered lots of burgers and steaks last week so we need to eat them at some point.

hope everyone else has a nice day

Just tried to reply to Wherenext's kind question on "Corona virus concerns" regarding how I got on back at work and wasn't able to:finally realized discussion was locked😢

It has been absolutely exhausting being back at work, so much so that I've been too tired to come on here and read through the threads until now! I seem to have spent the past week washing various changes of work clothes and falling asleep on the sofa when I get home.

The whole practice has been set up for social distancing and everything seems to take twice as long as it used to. I have a sore throat from constantly wearing a face mask and being on the telephone most of the day. Newcastle is still pretty deserted other than M&S and the metro was half empty (I was the only person wearing a face mask on my way home on Friday!).

We have patients booked in from next week (all the people whose appointments were cancelled during lockdown and people who've rang in the meantime to be put on waiting list). However, I think that once this surge of people have been in we will be pretty quiet. A lot of people are waiting to see what happens in terms of further easing of restrictions and a possible new wave of infections, before leaving the house. A lot of our older patients haven't left the house at all since lockdown began and their main concern seems to be regarding public transport.

Apparently a lot of shops (Fenwicks, John Lewis etc) are reopening on the 15th of June so I'm expecting to see everything get busier from then: for better or worse!

Anyway, I'm going to catch up on all the other stuff on here that I've missed now😊

Nice to hear from you thebells.👍

Expected that you would be shattered, both physically and mentally. Probably easier climbing Helvellyn.smile

Hope they make wearing masks compulsory on public transport and especially in shops.

Not a lot happening here in Wales. We're still stuck at the 5 mile range although the Police near Brecon turned back about 1,000 cars in 2 days, the vast majority from England, with fines. Most said they didn't realise we had separate rules.undecided

We're waiting to hear from our dentist, who is in England (Chester) so may be able to have a drive soon, hopefully.

    Stay safe.

Thebells great to hear from you.

Not surprised you're tired it's a huge change of circumstances without the added stresses which include just getting there and ensuring you dont bring it home in your clothes, bags and equipment!! Good job you didn't cycle as well.

I shot into Wilko's last Friday for some bits, my second visit as I felt it was safe on my first visit as I wanted it done before the shops in the rest if the precinct open again, although I may have got dates in a muddle - no idea why under the current circumstances 😉.

Yes the Coronavirus thread got a bit distracted 😱 again. But this whole forum is proving very difficult again, slow, server after sever errors, which is such a shame.

Keep up the good work. Not sure when my opticians open again but I do need to go when things calm down a bit as my new lenses in my glasses are aiding vertigo and seasickness 🤢 luckily I don't need them often. Our dentist reopens Monday my appointment is 23rd.  To start with its emergency things, reduced capacity, then back to more routine - they have dealt with over 200 problems during lockdown 😀, so I'm not sure I'll get my check up.

Wherenext it'll be compulsory to wear face covering in England for travelling on public transport from 15 June.

If you can travel 5 miles can you get to your dentist etc when they open?

Welcome back bells. Your thread went a little bit off topic, so I think it was closed for a rest, possibly re open again later.👍

Good to hear you ok, lots of changes though, hope things calm down a bit for you. I’m puzzling over what’s so special about 15th June and the need from then to wear a mask, but hey ho, it all adds to the guesswork😂

Rainy day here. OH is watching Channel 4s Charity afternoon based on 1966 World Cup Final, very interesting. Some great faces from the past, great memories.

Glad you've survived! A pity your "Covid Concern" thread went off piste, eyes and teeth are important and it's interesting to hear how your practice is coping. Hope you've managed to have a good rest. I've just looked up what our dental practice is planning. It looks as though they have to reduce the spray in the air, so different techniques will be used and air purifiers switched on to full power between patients etc. That's apart from all the shielding equipment. I think they may well be working under very difficult circumstances and I hope most of us can keep away and they themselves keep safe too.

Sort of sunny today, not feeling 100% but did a walk this morning with OH and the dog, the dog is very small and shouldn't have walks that are too long. We had an hour out walking on footpaths we've ignored for years, even missed an apple orchard that has sprung up since we last passed that way. Lots of hedgerow interests, wild flowers, skylarks singing, nice to go on a different route. Had lunch outside, a bit of garden tidying. Asked OH to cut off some rose suckers and he's cut off the rose stems that were ok...I ask you, the quality of full time gardeners has sunk recently. laughing

On a different subject I'm finding all the backgrounds to "home" broadcasting has brought a bit of light relief to watching TV during lockdown. Much better than some of the garish TV scenery and projections. We would have to have a quick tidy up and dust here...wink possibly remove the books the dog has chewed but I think I'd sneak in a funny family photo. laughing Thomas Schafernaker's hair is getting a bit long and the ladies are like me, trying to do the impossible with ever lengthening locks. Which reminds me, OH's hair needs to be tackled with a trimmer, as I've never used one should I do it or let him loose on it? He hasn't got much to go on but it could be the difference between life and death...  🤕
