Ttda, Mother in Law has one of those pick up gadgets. She got it when she had her knee replaced a couple of years ago and we've been using it for the post since it started.
She also uses it to keep me check. As her eyesight isn't the best I've been known to shed the odd tear.π°

Wherenext I thought takethedogalong was using coal tongs π.
We have one of those grabbers, it was my late mother in law's. I'll get it out for the post in a bit. Doesn't matter what takethedogalong uses you've reminded me - thanks π.

Good luck to all those with telephone consultations - my advise write down questions and keep to hand cos it is different.
Margaret's hearing is not so good these days and if she gets a strange accent (!) she often has difficulty following the conversation. I think our phone has a conference call facility so I might listen in as an extra pair of ears!!!

If vehicle washing isn't allowed then presumably polishing is also a proscribed activity. I've done both over the past couple of weeks. Since these activities are carried out generally within the confines of one's own curtilage, I find it rather implausible.

Apparently Dr Hilary stated it on the radio. I was amazed. Both our cars are on our own drive so I cant see the problem. Still on the subject of cars we are insured with Admiral and have had the email telling us that we will get Β£25 refund on each car insurance π

How you you open the post without touching it TDA? I dread the post this days as it is such a palava - saying to OH DONT TOUCH IT - putting on disposable gloves, spraying it with bleach solution, open post, dispose of envelopes etc take gloves off, dispose of gloves, thoroughly wash hands

Unfortunately it is the law of unintended consequences!!! You enact generalised legislation and leave it to others to work out what is meant. So it seems you can wash your car on your drive and not park it on the road immediately in front of your drive to wash it. It was only by a whisker that we didn't have police searching our shopping as we left the supermarket to check that everything we purchased was essential. (that would have been fun outside a Waitrose as you would probably only be allowed to buy their Essential range
) I would like to wash my motorhome and it would be easier for me to do that on the road along the side of my house. It looks, if I wish to remain within the interpretation of the regulations I must do my best in my back garden! I might just have another lazy day!!!

Itβs a two person operation. One uses tongs and a handy foot to pin down the offending article. The other opens it with letter opener, the tongs then wriggle about until itβs extracted, if itβs junk it goes straight into the paper waste, if itβs not junk, it goes into the decontamination area (basically kicked under a chairπ) for a week, and then we sort it. So far, itβs all been junk. All our bills are online, PBs are paid back auto into account. That only leaves begging letters, weird stuff from Downing Street and the odd card from the family card fiend who refuses to embrace any form of technology.
There could well be other stuff, but for some reason the dog has decided he likes to deal with the post now, so itβs a race to see who gets there firstπ
Edit you arenβt restricted to coal tongs, although they do give a good distance from danger. Sugar tongs are dicing inches from death, pasta tongs are a mid way compromise. Those strange pincers on a bendy wire normally used to extract nuts from inside engine sump are only for the experienced! π€£

I would be dancing at flour. Like gold dust around here. If you put it on eBay, it would possibly pay your next ferry feeπ

A lucky find indeed. It does pay to look high and low in supermarkets, OH does the climbing, I do the grovelling around on my kneesπ

Yet another sunny day, not at work until this afternoon so making the most it out in the garden, mostly clearing up Hedgehog Poo!
Managed to get some fence paint as we ran out half way along the fence, so we can now complete the rest.
Message from son to say the BBC daily lessons he and his team have been working on have been a hit, 2.5million children logged on and used them on the first day. Have asked if his girlfriend would make some face masks, she has my sewing machine, was supposed to be bringing it back but couldn't due to the lockdown. Mind you saw our neighbours when taking the dog for a walk, they were going for a walk with their grandchildren
Found a bag of bread flour in one of my cupboards yesterday, must have been pushed to the back. Might put it on Ebay

We once stopped off at a small garage going down Fosse Way, years ago. I popped in to get something, didnβt know where to look once I got in thereπ― All over, never mind top shelf. We gave it a very rude name, and still chuckle when we pass it now. Havenβt dared go in since......

Another lovely sunny day here too although quite windy. Just had an Iceland delivery very efficient we only ordered it on Monday night so quick time and got most of the things we ordered including steak burgers have them earmarked for the BBQ tonight. Not too busy today just sitting in the conservatory at the moment enjoying a cup of coffee.

Thanks Metheven, I'll be looking.
I'm still looking at Venus in the west at night, these good views are around every 8 years, at it's best just now.
If you're up early you'll see Mars shining brightly in the east.
I was speaking to a friend of mine in London, she said she'd never seen such clear skies over the city. Her normal views are of constant aircraft coming into Heathrow, hardly any at the moment and much cleaner air.

Helenandtrevor great news for you son's viewing figures. Well done that man and team ππ.
A bag of bread flour - my kingdom for a bag of bread flour. We wre certainly getting a marginal understanding of what folk in poorer countries have to contend with π’.
The mask Tammygirl used is demonstrated with hand sewing, 2 short seams, I've not attempted ours yet, enjoying the sun too much. The link is HERE to save you hunting for it.
Lazy start to the day - about to shift from bed just after 8am π phone call, great chat finished about 9am. Breakfast by 10am washing out about to do chores, walking phone call, friend walking around Loudon Hill and back home to Darvel, we 'did' this walk a couple of weeks back, nice to hear of changing vegetation, she still breathes harder on the uphill bits π, I don't find them any effort π. No highland cows or sheep this time but noisy tractor muck spreading, I didn't smell that either!
Second attempt at starting, only wanted to vac and do bathroom conned OH into bathroom, but before we could start big lorry arrives delivery of the bench I ordered late Monday evening. Needs to be assembled but currently the box is sitting in the sun to decontaminate, so tomorrow or Friday sorted now. (Saw said bench in a garden centre near my brother just before the lock down, himself had a touch of the can't want to find my wallet or open it π€π’π’. So didn't get. Ours at almost 40 is showing its age and repairs not holding π₯. That garden centre website not working so found it online, I'd taken a photo π. Fiver cheaper, free winter cover, don't suppose that'll be used as we have bench by the back door so handy to sit any time of the year for a few moments. Also free delivery so he thinks he won πππ).
Now having me time in the sun, lilac smells wonderful. Stay safe folks.

OH checked Waitrose last night and found that there were a few delivery slots available, and plenty of click and collect ones, so we have gone for a click and collect well in the future......5th May....by which time we will have space in the freezer again. Chose click and collect as the spend required is not so high.
Order is mainly for chicken and meat, some veggies, and bread flour. Whether we will get the bread flour is debatable!
Another warm, sunny day here, this afternoon I need to clean out the gutters, have been putting it off for a while now. And my log store has a split board on one end, so that will be something else to fix
This morning we packed up a big box of various kitchen items belonging to DD which she had left here, so they can go to their new home next time they bring us shopping. She still has several boxes in the loft too, so may see if I can get a couple of them down to be removed.

This lovely old water mill in Dorset has just gone back into daily production to help the locals with flour. It's at Sturminster Newton on the river Stour (the town is known as Stur to the locals!) Thomas Hardy lived for a time across the fields from there and it was the setting for some of his books.

I tried lifting my large bag of flour today...it's a bit heavy and OH has put in an outside store...

wouldn't it fit on the cupboard shelf ?πππ I hope you won't be tempted to profiteer by selling in small lots at an inflated price? πππ
Loved the link thanks

You'll be happy to note that we bought a bag of Self Raising Flour today - and gave it away!
Yep, Mrs WN doing her Virus Russian Roulette Run (well slow walk) saw a bag on the shelf and bought it knowing that a neighbour is desperate for one. You'd think it was Christmas. Can't be bothered with money so told them they owe us a favour, to be reclaimed (maybe) whenever. Whilst taking it around to their house we were accosted by 2 other neighbours who almost mugged us.
Lovely day here.
