Spent Monday constructing a raised veg bed as we are "indoors" for 3months,then Boris (no option) closed most of the country down ,
Have since been on line to get some soil to fill the bed up, now not sure if it is going to be worth it?,
As we can by a large amount of veg for the £138 wanted for a bag of soil from B&Q

JV, my Mum and Sis grow lots of things in big containers and sacks, including potatoes, very successfully. You can start small and add on as you like.👍

Essential supplies from Asda yesterday - with several omissions, but enough of what I wanted. A sort of Regency style dance on the doorstep as the driver and I took turns to move forwards and then away from each other.
I have another slot booked for next week with a few items on it. But I know by it's picked they will be "out of stock".
Today's "essential supplies" have just arrived - two cases of wine. A good offer (30% off) from Three Choirs - it would have been silly not to have taken advantage. It's not going to go off.
My friend is re-learning French - a lesson a day. So we're (trying) to communicate by text and Facebook in French. It's been a long time since A Levels!

I got a lot of what I needed from Tesco as I simply just kept amending my order a couple of times a day. My last amendment was 15 minutes before closing time. Arrived with only two items missing, and half a dozen perfectly acceptable replacements. I hadn’t ordered T rolls though. Other than the few I have in my bathroom, I haven’t seen a T roll for over a week in any shops. It’s a mystery where all the millions are........😂

Smile a minit on 'ere ain't it
!!
Loaded the washing machine, took my morning exercise ( Actually hanging out the 'lines' for the washing ) when I thought the washer was about to explode. Dashed ( !
! ) back into the residence only to find 'twas no such thing, but outside my front window a pair of Cheshire East council workers were taking advantage of the much reduced traffic flow to repair some pot holes
. The rattling noise was the Wacker - plate hammering the filling down - and never a single vehicle held up by the workmen. Does that qualify as "Social Distancing, I wonder
.
Hope Jolly Kernow & his 'tribe' are back on this side of the Channel again

Another glorious day here again. Just walked to the post box only one other couple on the other side of the road. Hard to believe what's actually going on when spring is glorious and the birds are singing! Reminds me of my childhood in a rural village despite being close to the city.
Written and posted all thank you's for mums donations, we only heard last week. Did March and April birthday cards along with son's first wedding anniversary, in which I added a note about their wedding and anniversary coinciding with 'events' 😱😂. I've written the dates to be opened, where appropriate, and thanked the postal staff on the back too with a smiley face. Just in case they stop the post.
Cancelled the fitting of the dishwasher for tomorrow on the basis it's a luxury not a necessarily and I wont have to wonder if I've cleaned surfaces thoroughly! I've said they can deliver it to the shed, not contact needed, they'll let me know. They're trying to finish a kitchen in case things get tighter.
Off to peg out washing and continue gardening. Looks like the spring clean and indoor jobs cant be avoided at the weekend.
Stay safe folks.

In line with all other Morrison supermarkets (I believe) ours are are erecting screens to protect the cashiers.
Exercises done, can manage all but enough
Lovely day here in East Norfolk sunny beating down, no chilly wind so really very pleasant in the garden. Little later I will mow the lawn, first time this year. I would like to scarify it but a bit early at the moment

Old bins, holes in bottom, strong carriers, holes in bottom, you can just use as much soil or compost as you need or have available. If you place full bags side by side in your newly built area, they will self support each other, and make watering easier. Will look tidier as well, so your frame is of good use👍 We have grown Strawberries in long planters for years, get lbs some years, easier to keep clean and avoid pesky slugs.....although our birds seem to know the exact best day to harvest!😉

I thought that might be the issue JV, sorry. Cress on cotton wool? I remember doing this back in infant school. We watched it grow, teacher cut it, and we all sat outside under the schools lovely old weeping willow tree in the sunshine 😋

Have been trying to talk a friend through WhatsApp via the land line, she's on her own, her family send her WhatsApp messages but she hasn't worked out how to return messages. She always used to baulk at anything "tech" and refused to return text messages...! Anyway I think we've nearly got there. Another non tech friend has now managed on line banking this week on the insistence of her family who are miles away. My plan was to start phoning friends more this week but I'm going to take a break from further calls today.

How lovely😁 The ability to grow things is a life skill, as well as so rewarding👍

Broad beans, jars and blotting paper, early memories of school for me too.
Do you have soil available JVB, or are you paved over? Worth digging some up and putting in a pot.
All the men in the neighbourhood who can are out with every conceivable noisy piece of gardening equipment, so much for peace and quiet today...

A little light relief [I hope]. This is a BTL Comment from the Guardain's TV Critic review of Jamie Oliver's 'Cook from your store cupboard ingredients' TV show:
'OOoh boo ..I've just opened the kitchen cupboard..and there's nothing there.
I was following the government advice to shelf isolate.'Elsewhere, someone claims that she was discussing with her husband where to go for a break 'when all this is over'.
The husband replied, 'Let's put a map on the wall and throw a dart at it, and go where it lands ...'
'Turns out we'll be spending 2 weeks behind the fridge ...'

Day 2 of lockdown. I had planned to use my ‘exercise slot’ to go out a cycle but it is pouring so scrapped that idea weather looking ok for the next few days though. FaceTime with granddaughter this morning they only live a mile away but can’t visit so FaceTime will need to do. Hoping to get some work done in the garden over the next couple of weeks. Glad to see everyone else seems to be coping ok.

My task today was to get hold of some seed / potting compost, various flower seeds and some of those degradable pots. We don't usually bother, as we are generally away for May and half of June. Seeds and pots were no problem, ordered through Dobbies. However, the compost was much more difficult. Seems a bit like gold dust round here. I could have had a 1000 litres but no smaller bags. Finally ordered some on Amazon from a supplier with a good past record. Although even they were playing the market. 50 litre bags doubled in price before my eyes but managed to secure a 100 litres before they put the price up.

Dishwasher delivered and put in the shed, guy wearing gloves. I'll spray the plastic with dettol in a bit. No need for him to touch anything and we stood well apart to converse. He admired my garden 😀 and said shift over so he could view properly.
Not achieved very much at all at the mo. We've had an early lunch. Got a bit of a niggle with a tooth, wouldn't mind but I was at the dentist on the 12th 😱. Put sensitive toothpaste on it and didn't rinse off. Might have to phone for advice before it gets worse, I don't have a high pain threshold and hate teeth 😱
Can't get OH in the garden despite the sun, slight breeze now which feels cool but I'm sheltered. Heard him talking but the phone hadn't rung, he's got the front door open because 2 guys looking at the front of our house, from the pavement, alledgedly checking phone line connections - ours ok apparently. That'll be because we have cable! He sent them packing. Discussion about opening the door.
On that note I see post office as being classed as essential workers and may deliver food and prescriptions. Please DON'T open your door to them they will sign for your parcels and put through your letter box.
Apparently mindless teenagers CCTV on properties, smashed windscreens and wing mirrors in a nearby road about 2am. I gather it's probably the group known about who've been throwing stones at passing cars and other antisocial things but evade the police by riding off on their bikes in various directions. We really don't need this on top of everything else 😤😤😤

Hi everyone, I appreciate these are very difficult times but I would please ask members to respect each other and the community guidelines as our moderators are having to work hard to remove posts. Please can you keep discussions friendly and be mindful of your posts to ensure they couldn't potentially cause upset or arguments. It would be great if we can use Club Together as a way to keep connected with each other and encourage our community to be a supportive place where we can share our tips and advice and look out for each other. Many thanks.

Miserable day here, that fine but very wet rain, and chilly too, will not be going out at all today, not even to the garage if I can avoid it.
Items ordered for completing son's birthday present have started arriving, so time to clear off the kitchen table so OH can use the space to apply the finish to the wood. I am banned from that as apparently I "make too much mess" !
Hopefully we can avoid having to use supermarket deliveries. OH is not a fan of anyone else picking her shopping, not even me! As we are up on a hill north of the city, we get snow surprisingly often between November and April, so we always keep the freezers and cupboards well stocked over winter. We had just finished defrosting and restocking the freezers the other week, and had been stocking up with staples for our (now cancelled) 4 week trip up north, so have plenty of most things, even toilet rolls!
This came about as Lidl here had distributed loads of £5 off £25 spend vouchers, and it is difficult sometimes to spend £25 in Lidl, so we had added on toilet rolls, washing pods, shower gel etc to the fresh food to get to £25 every week over the 5 weeks we had the vouchers. Not allowed up here to use them if you have any alcohol in your shopping unfortunately.
We are meantime able to go out for milk etc, and we are both well, but should we get struck down we have been instructed by DD to send her our list and she will deposit stuff in the porch. Let's hope it never comes to that.
Worst thing is not being able to be with little Callum, we have been used to seeing him almost every day over the last 2 years. He is changing so fast, trying to speak in sentences now, getting up to all sorts of mischief too!

That’s disgraceful Steve, so annoying that some are simply profiteering.

You prompted me to make an enquiry at our local nursery. They do veg and fruit, eggs and milk deliveries as well, and happy to stick half a dozen compost bales on truck for me. So a great result. All, paid, they drop, job done, no contact.

I've just tuned into this normally friendly thread to find that more than one virus is doing the rounds, this one, judging by the number of Deleted User posts seems to be affecting the good natured DNA that can be found in most members.
If I've missed something interesting that wasn't "Deleted User" then I apologise to those posters but I can't be bothered working my way through every post.
Suffice to say that it's a glorious day here in North Wales and I've managed to cross out quite a number of small jobs that I've been getting around to, only for the last 4 or 5 years or so though. We can recognise the garden as one we used to have quite some time ago and are thrilled by the possibilities of what we'll find when we get to the front one and start working on it. I'm done for the day though. Need to try to sort out the mess that is MiL's and Mrs WN holiday in late June.
Please heed Ro's advice and behave or go and start another thread elsewhere and bicker there.
