ABM I wanted to acknowledge your post but can't like it! 😤😤😤

I just don't get some folks mentality. Apparently it's happening in Oz too, folks wanting to use closed Bondi, I think, Beach arguing it's our beach........

Very sad article on radio4 today by youngsters about the loss of their grandpa and asking folk to be sensible and obey the guidance/rules.

OH had to go for blood test today.  He had a phone call from consultants secretary to tell him not to go to hospital for this but to our GP surgery or The City Care Centre.  GP a no, no as can't get through on phone so we went to the Care Centre first thing.  Apart from a few staff we were the only people there!  Pleased to see that the car park barrier has been lifted so no car park charges.  Well done NHS.smile  The hospital appointment next week will now be a phone call.  We have had no post for days. Is anyone else experiencing problems with their post?

I can't believe the mentality of some people ABM and Bakers2. What is wrong with these people. yell

I have obviously got far too much time on my hands as I witnessed what to me was an act of vandalism. We have new neighbours in the Close who have been doing a lot of work on their house as is usual when new people move in. I should explain that the 35 houses on our little estate were built with mahogany type hardwood window frames. Those of us who have upgraded to double glazing have tried to be sympathetic to the original design by having mahogany/rosewood UPVC frames fitted. I was therefore shocked yesterday to see that our new neighbours had new windows fitted but with white frames!!! What is even stranger is that they appear to have replaced perfectly good double glazed mahogany UPVC windows!!! Obviously they are perfectly entitled to select the colour of windows but I can't understand how they would have made such a decision as it makes their house now look very odd. As I say too much time on my hands!!!

    Yes you have David...winklaughing

Talking about Hot Cross Buns now, after reading Oneputt's post. I am one of those strange people who'll only eat them once a year on Good Friday so imagine my horror that I can't find any (not really but I do like them a lot and usually freeze some in advance.) Anyway I found myself dreaming that I'd found some in a motorway shop this morning but the assistant said they were too busy to get them onto the shelves, the person in front of me removed them all. Just as a fresh tray came in over my head I was jumped on by a Chihuahua....rude awakening!!

Looks like I might attempt to make some too. laughing

We are really failing in the essential shopping, we have never grocery shopped online and cannot now register. Have not been able to purchase toilet rolls or soap for the last two weeks, and despite the 'elderly hour' was told the deliveries don't arrive until 11.00am so shelves were empty. One of us has to go out today in an attempt to purchase a few essential goods, not good at all.frown

At least the freezer is full smile

On a more sombre note, I have ensured my Will is up to date and done.

Triky's route home takes me back. I used to have a girlfriend who lived in Brasted so travelled the old A25 quite a bit.

OH ventured up the road to Iceland for vittles only to discover she didn't have a £ for the trolley. Received a text summons to perform 'beast of burden' duties just as I had entered the smallest room. "Caught with your trousers down" I believe is the expression. First time out of the house for four days.

It’s something I notice a lot DK. I often puzzle over the choices people make in terms of doors, windows, colour any rendering is painted, even colour of bricks chosen. And I find internal decor choices fascinating. Some seem very in tune with their surroundings, the period of build, how colour schemes harmonise or contrast. Others don’t seem or choose to have an eye for detail. I never comment, it’s their choice, but it can jar on the eye at times. A lot can be done with plants as well. Even the ugliest of properties can benefit from well chosen plants used carefully.

I found the Hot Cross Bun of my dreams last year. Booth’s supermarket, up in Dales. Dark chocolate and ginger. The mess was unbelievable, but they tasted divine! They weren’t doing them this year. I had to make do with Clementine, and Cranberry and Orange. I struggled through......

We don't have any rules on our estate other than the range of brick and tile colours that were allowed, as all the houses were individually built,

However, further up the hill, on a different estate, where the original houses had an attractive Art Nouveau theme with black stained wood windows, several houses have been extended recently and obviously the original bricks were no longer available.

Not much that can be done about that, but I would have thought the planners would have insisted on some sort of matching for window colours and styles on individual houses, one that we can see the back of has a huge extension with the ugliest windows I have ever seen......in white UPVC.  It looks terrible, what were they thinking when they chose those!

    Kj

I am not sure there are any rules regarding the colour of window frames unless the building is listed or in a Conservation area. Funnily enough we have been asking ourselves for the last 40 years, who will be the first to install white window frames, we now have our answer!!! It could be the decision was made on cost grounds because to have a rosewood colouring it generally costs about 25% more. Some people compromise by having white interiors and rosewood outers.

To me that all sounds very sensible because they are trying to maintain a signature design and in a way your neighbour installing mahogany windows is the same as mine installing white. Surely people only have to look around where they live to understand the design aesthetics of their surroundings?

Weather is definitely spring-like here! Spent all day yesterday pressure washing the sandstone pavers around the house which were looking definitely grubby.  Then sprayed all the fencing with bleach to get rid of the green algae - worked a treat.  This morning has been spent spraying the fences with wood stain - so on top of cutting the lawn, yesterday afternoon and Ros filling up the various planters with pansies etc, the garden is now starting to take shape. Veggies will be put out this afternoon and then all I have to do is sit back and watch it all growcool Oh, the joys of not caravanning!!

Online shopping seems to becoming an impossible task unless you were very on the ball at the start of this problem by booking advanced dates. Over the last few days I have been trying Morrisons as we had previously registered for their loyalty card. They only allow three weeks in advance and every slot is taken. Even when you wait an hour or more for your turn, still no slots. Waitrose our first choice no slots. Fortunately we have two sons living locally who can get things for us but it all adds to the pressure of isolating.

I've solved the problem, I've ordered a giant one from Bettys, got free delivery too. laughing

I'm also waiting for a large bag of strong flour from a mill in Gloucs the only problem is Morrisons took off the yeast from my online delivery. I now regret cleaning and clearing out the kitchen cupboards, I had some old packets of dried yeast and though out of date they would probably have been ok. I've got a few packets left. Years ago I remember we could get chunks of fresh yeast from a local bakery.

Anyway I'm looking forward to my giant hot cross bun!! wink

Brue, If you have a local Asda, and it has an instore bakery, they gave away fresh yeast, which can off course be frozen. Not sure if they are still doing it at the moment though. And, as you say, getting the flour is becoming difficult.

So much for all the post War promises of the nation being able to feed itself, and wipe its own bottom!🙄

well we got the sad news early this morning from the care home that we have been semi-expecting that Mrs C mum passed away peacefully in her sleep last night. She was 91 and had a great life but had been losing more and more quality of life over the last year. Sad that we were not able to see her for a few weeks due to the current situation.

After the shock we're now watching videos of past times and really celebrating her life rather than any mourning what so ever.

Thanks for the tip on hacker Oneputt. I keep my fb extremely tight!

I agree with David and takethedogalong re houses. I never comment but do wonder about choices. OH always notice aerials and the like and misses the gardens, but between us we've got it covered. Planning in this area with extensions is apparently to make it look of current times not when property built apparently 😱.

    So many scammers unbelievable

Do not forget to open your doors to clap and cheer for NHS at 8pm. I'm including ALL ESSENTIAL WORKERS in mine, that'll be farmers and refuse collectors as well as teachers, shopkeepers lorry drivers etc.

Our bin collection happening today our city council thinks its vital and they're robust enough at present 😀. Thanked a couple of our crews we have 4 different collections every week. Told by them all to wear gloves when you touch your bins - they were as they handle thousands a day and who knows if one is infected?

Continuing with gardening, ground crusty and reverberating up my wrist, using hand fork in the flowerbeds between the plants! Cant win here may have to water undone beds for tomorrow. I've also thinned seeds that have come up thickly and they'll need some moisture in their new positions.

Lovely having this and many friends but texting  and calls are slowing my progress. Have to allocate them to tea breaks and lunch!

Milliehull we had telephone consultation with cardiac consultant yesterday. We had seen community  cardiac nurse 10 days ago. Consultant delighted he was on all pills recommended by him follow his echocardio scan, the pretty colour one. 2 more lots of blood thinners 😯😯. He obviously doesn't know me well, cos there was no chance of him not being prescribed them!

Neighbour walked into M&S this morning so we've got a few luxury bits. According to staff a little busier than last 2 days - fully stocked limited customer entries plenty of space.

Right must crack on now lunch over, not read this back so hope it makes sense. Glorious again here thankfully, means I can avoid that indoor stuff, cancelled cleaner for time being 😢 all down to me now,

Welcome!
