Just had chat with son, he's working from home, bonuses on hold this month to assist company cashflow - 10 redundancies 😱.

Disappointment as he's not coming down for Mothers Day, doesn't want to bring anything here to pass on to us, his dad especially 😢😢. Double whammy as we were going to be loaned the grand dog to assist OH motivation 😢. Also doesn't really constitute essential travel. Guess its WhatsApp for face to face, thank goodness for technology.

Tablet fixed 😀 great job. More gardening done, plenty more to go, sonsaid they've had 4mm of rain since lunchtime so all drilling ceased, not sure when it'll all be done DIL says never known it to be happening this late. At least lone working isn't an issue for her and  she carries on as usual.

Our inventive shopping turned up more fresh pasta today, now frozen. No one seems to be buying ready made pastry either, which of course freezes lovely, and can be used for all sorts of things. Crumble mix, we have an abundance of lovely rhubarb in our garden at the moment. I hasten to add, I only bought one packet of each.😁

A strange couple of days in work. Laptops are being deployed to those with underlying health conditions, so that they can work from home. Our I.T. Department are working like trojans to make sure all laptops have the required programs loaded and ready to use. I will be working from the office until told not to. In the middle of all this, we also have our financial year end......that seems to be less of a priority this year.
Town was very quiet when I went out for lunch. Very unusual to not have to dodge all the shoppers. And after six shops and three days, I still can’t find any toilet roll to buy! 😐

Fingers crossed folks our flight is ok for tomorrow.

Big sister called today to see how things are,  her OH has his last chemo tomorrow, bit stressed out.

They are due to have a new kitchen fitted on Monday + new dg windows fitted. Contractor would like them to be out while the work is being done,  he is a friend of their SIL so is aware of the health problems + they are both mid seventies.

Can't say I  blame him, he said he has young guys working for him with children and doesn't want to risk causing them to be ill. So they will come out to spend the days with us, they can isolate themselves in the spare front room laughing either that  or the caravan surprised

Just got to sort out getting some food now frown

Well Tammygirl at least they've somewhere to go! Can you not get them to grab some shopping, daily trips should ensure some luck in securing some bits 😂😂. Hope all goes according to plan tomorrow. Safe journey.

Son has now told us his dad NOT to go out - he's not panicked but very concerned by latest BBC 1 coronavirus update and says we got him through last year so house and garden for him. OH's happy to accept this - jury's out on how I feel. I'm happy to be out and about as 'hunter gatherer' but I don't want to bring anything back. Looks like more gardening 😂. Better get an online order in now for next month. Thankfully good neighbour network so I can ask for shopping drops assuming they can secure items!

Having sourced a replacement pump from a local yacht chandlers, I discovered when coming to fit it that the connections were 15mm instead of 12mm despite me being specific with the serial number when ordering. Back to the drawing board.

Had a bit of a giggle this afternoon smile

Visited Aged Sis yesterday, Tuesday, morning for a short while, when her daughter, who was baby sitting in Cambridge, phoned up. When she realised I was there she was rather uncomplimentary to ABM.surprised

However the mother & father of the 'baby' are both working from home & were rather shirty with the baby-sitter in similar uncomplimentary terms. laughing

My call to the Dismissed One was fairly strained, 'cos it was very hard to grouch, moan and groan convincingly when one is trying oh so very hard not to laugh out loud. innocent.

Hope you all can get as much fun out of the next few months as I've had this week  wink

    Take Great Care everybody

After recovering from last night's binge we woke to more rain, so just a shortish walk for Flyte and I before lunch. Then we spent a most pleasant afternoon with a walk with the WMs from  Tideswell down to Miller's Dale then up onto the Monsal Trail as far as the Viaduct. Rounded off our stay here consuming a glass or two of ale and having more good laughs with the most pleasant of company. Looks as if this will be our last night out in the caravan for quite a while, unfortunately.

Bakers2, big sister has been getting me bits and bobs already, so far she has managed,  eggs, potatoes,  toilet rolls and tomorrow she is hoping to get bread, milk and sugar smile with what I have in cupboards and freezer we will not starve,  I usually have a good store in just incase we get snowed in. However as it was the end of winter and with us coming away and expecting to go to Spain on our return I didn't stock up so supplies at home not as good ss it could be. We will manage fine though wink

Freddy55, fry pan to fire not half. The island doesn't have a lot of cases just 7 at the moment, however a week ago there were none. Food stocks here are good nothing we can't get but starting to get cabin fever. Will be nice to get home to more space, we have a good size garden and live in the countryside so going out for a walk/cycle shouldn't be a problem. I will miss the warm sun though.

    Night night.

Off to the hospital this morning for my wife’s eye appointment, the hospital phoned yesterday to ask if we wanted to cancel ,told us a bout the risks ,but then said they were very quiet as most people had cancelled, and as the appointment is at 9.30 we don’t think there will be much contact with other people and have been waiting 10 months for we said we would still come , as this situation is only going to get worse

I am sat here thinking my cancellation of breaks I’d booked was the best move(touch & go for a while mind). Watching folk overseas bemoaning the UK Govt for not sending aircraft to fly them home🤷🏻‍♂️. There are valuable lessons to be learnt here👍🏻

Just back from the chemist via the Co op queue,  in co op all tills open, all younger (except me) ,had problem for second time for getting repeat prescription ,still not got it from surgery ,would not have been so bad  but had to queue outside, as only two being allowed in at a time it was like entering an isolation hospital ,all staff wearing gloves masks and goggles,so the 10min trip ended up nearly 50mins with no prescription, undecided but got milk, cheese and bread as required from co opsurprised

We had our first Waitrose delivery this morning. Much better than we expected. There were half a dozen items that weren't available but probably the ones that could have been predicted. There were a fair number of substitutions but all sensible and charged at the lower price if they happened to be more expensive. The only issue now is that the next slot I could get is the 14th April! The website is having difficulties as well, reminds me a bit of the old Club site booking system!!!

    JVB,

When I rang up about my Needles for insulin pens the Chemists said they had them but will in future phone me to say when ready for collection, so I trotted { relatively speaking } over to collect the needles. When I arrived I was staggered to see nobody on Bouncer Duty surprised even tho' it is sharing a main entrance with a different Doctor's Surgery.

MY surgery, across town had an attendant on the doors Last Week !

Not yet heard if my Diabetes Clinic is still on  for a week on Monday ( early hours appointment on the First working day after the clocks go Forward - groan  ) but I'll contact them closer to the day--  they most likely are exceedingly busy right now yell !!

Keep taking the tablets , y'all  laughing

Trip out to the storage yard and emptied all the food out of the caravan,  all food was tinned or packaged so now have a little more at home.  After visiting van had a walk from Burgh Castle along Brendon Water.  The wind has changed to North Easterly so temperature has dropped considerably although still a fine day

OH has just finished cancelling our upcoming trip, with a reasonably satisfactory result.

CAMC sites cancelled easily, CL are holding our deposit to use later.

CCC sites .....one cancelled with deposit refunded, other 2 cancelled with, after lady took further advice, deposits held for 30 days to give us time to consider where we might be able to go later in the year.  She also queried the fact that some sites are offering additional discounts, but only if booked on line, and we will have to phone to book now, so this was surely unfair?

Further advice was taken by the staff member and OH was told that the price for an on line booking would be honoured, so a decent result.

I am just finishing up some essential plumbing and heating repairs/alterations for DD, then after Friday we will not come here for at least 11 days, possibly longer, so looks like I will have to tidy that garage!

DD is working from home, her OH is a teacher, his school has been designated as the one to stay open in his area to take the children of key workers.  He is waiting to hear whether he will be required to go in every day, or only some days, including apparently during the 2 week school Easter holiday, or not at all, and is meantime bringing home IT equipment to do remote teaching.

Little Callum is still at nursery, there is confusion as to whether private nurseries also have to close, but Friday will be his last day anyway meantime as they plan to withdraw him, though will keep his place open by continuing to pay the fees.

Should SIL not need to go into school, they will manage childcare between them for the next couple of weeks.  DD is awaiting clarification on her company's policy should she have to work fewer hours to look after Callum.  She has some holidays she can use should it prove necessary.

We (and presumably the other grandparents) will stay home and away from any other contact for up to 14 days, especially as the other grandparents are expecting the arrival of a second grandchild in 3 weeks time, then we will review the situation if we are all still healthy by then.

We have no family or friends we would visit, but the other grandparents have a large extended family and are very sociable, so are the weak link in the plan it seems.

    Brian's a confused bunny now !!

Thinking of my lunch when the post man came a-calling. Two envelopes - one from RSPB and t'other from " Old Glory " vintage mag. That one contained a nice little book - the second half of the Guide to Steam Rallies etc in 2020 ! At least it runs from July to Christmas so I really do  have something to look forward to smile but that's three months plus in the future frown.

Ah Well, I can at least re-organise my rally list even if I don't get to any this year.

P.S.  got A double dose of letter from that nice Mr Lomas this morning  -- that letter was also confusing  but I won't criticize a Working Man today.   wink

Had an easy run home from Buxton today after cancelling the last 3 nights on the CL and the club site next week.

Caravan unpacked. We're in no rush to clean it etc. Will be done over the next few days. Have to venture out tomorrow but will be taking all precautions necessary. Hamzat suit at the ready.

    Hope TG gets home today.

Just feel quite lucky we decided to abandon our trip to Spain. It's only just over a week ago and look how much things have changed since then. Frightening.

Well I have had a good day, so far. Up to help Sis with Mum today, who understandably is extremely anxious. Got her all sorted and got stuck into a few house chores, then whoopee, out into Mum’s garden. Planted a nice clematis for her, and dug and finished a small pond for her. Looking very nice now, full of daffodils, lots of other plants coming up. While I was out working, had a trio of buzzards wheeling and screaming, tumbling and pretend fighting, only just above roof tops. They were joined by a sparrow hawk as well. Mum bundled into car, has had a nice afternoon with us at home, watching all birds in garden, and looking at some old photos. It’s a frightening time in some ways for us all, but it’s more so when you haven’t a clue about much of what is going on! Full credit to Mum though, she’s excellent at the handwashing (always has been), her “you never know” food stocks, all routinely checked for dates, is coming in very handy. Well, so long as you don’t mind Corned Beef, Spam and Tuna😂
