It was blowing an absolute gale this afternoon when we went to Fistral Beach in Newquay with the dogs. Hardly anyone on the beach at all and just one very brave kite surfer in the sea doing some spectacular jumps. So windy that Ralph "couldn't hear" the whistle so a hairy moment or two when we thought he'd be making his own way home! laughing

We got up to glorious sunshine and a dusting of snow here in Dales. Bitter cold outside, and anything less than seven and a half stone blown off it’s feet, so had to anchor Mum firmly! We decided to chance lunch at the American Diner just outside Skipton. Wasn’t very busy, and we had a good lunch, then a “top of the Dales Jeep tour” as it started to turn grey and wet. Howling gale, but glorious views. Warmly toasting ourselves now back in cottage.CL has plenty on, both little sites have visitors, so there are still lots of folks out.

Don’t want to be accused of stockpiling, the cans are the large 5ltrs type.  Great phone signal can also access my WiFi from the shed.

A fine day after the odd hail shower during the night, but still rather windy. We had a pleasant walk beside Rutland Water and over the dam, although that was a bit of a struggle into the wind. There were a couple of brave windsurfers making the most of the conditions. Have had a few very short showers this evening but there's a clear sky at the moment.

The sun is shining at Skybarn Farm CL at the moment and we have survived the nearly 50 mph winds of the last few days. Was a bit worried about the awning at one stage but being in the lee of the van, it survived OK. Now feel it’s safe to go out for the day!

Gentle drive into Surgery this A.M. to collect a prescription for my Insulin Pen Needles to be met by a Lady in big apron gloves etc asking if I had a cough, fever, runny nose etc.  Calmed her fears with my usual response --  Nose runs from October to May, Cough is due to the Ramipril they give me and I've no fever 'cos I'm c c cold ! Allowed in only to discover they had electronicked it to the usual pharmacy so Thanks muchly I'm off shopping  money-mouth.

Got into ASDA, Crewe -weird experience !! Busy store, only paper products left appear to be NEWSpapers surprised but I got MY goodies with no problems.Only saw one person I know but would have preferred to have met his Wife embarassed. Got home, loaded shelves, fridge & freezer, put fone on charge only to get an urgent text from surgery :  -- no face - to - face appointments for forseable future , they will all be via Telephone unless it is vital. They could have told me while I was there, the muppets laughing

But I have to admit a young lady with a bad chest was stood standing outside the surgery waiting for the call to go into her appointment so it seems the system is working AOK as far as she is concerned

You were lucky ABM. On my visit to the physio at our local community hospital this morning I had to sit in a room on close quarters with two other attendees and we had to listen to the receptionist standing two feet away telling us about....1 Her brain surgery....2 Her shoulder operations...3 what the hospitals were like, 4 her recovery and non recovery from various procedures....5 How did the transplant go for the person sitting next to me  (I never found out what the transplant was !!) 6 Was she boring us...…………….well no, but had she noticed our hair was standing on end and our mouths were open in a big surprised shape.

I nearly forgot what I was in there for, oh yes, arthritis in my shoulder, mustn't complain. laughinglaughing

We went to collect one of OH meds, why do they never all run out together??, as bad management had caused last one to be taken yesterday! Pharmacist great when I called to own up yesterday  - he'd sorted and had them ready for our visit in today. OH is seeing community heart nurse Monday so didn't want to stock up and have them changed! He checked his meds and had a chat as they'd been altered following echo cardio scan but we hadn't seen consultant just had letter with new meds. Pharmacist checked all going ok as been on them for 2 weeks. Really great news on his blood pressure readings and strong pulse, shame the heart damaged!

Apparently our GP now doing telephone consultations initially had read on fb some in town were but ours wasnt mentioned. Seems sensible.

Had money off for M&S food so made a saving 😉🤔😯

Oneputt you'd have thought receptionist would know better........... especially regarding someone else's OH's and privacy. Not all of us are fascinated with others gory details 😱🤐

Breezy again here but dry  lost the blue sky by 9am. Washing blowing nicely something very therapeutic and satisfying 😀. Going to have a siesta have heavy eyes 😉

It was me B2 and I was surprised to hear all that, in fact I don't think I've experienced it before. She did ask me in front of everyone if I was in for my back and I just said no rather than discuss anything further. However I can recommend a good neuro surgeon....I think undecided

Not long back from our local Asda. Not a bag of pasta in the store, nor a drop of UHT Milk [our local Foodbank was one reported in the Guardian as being desperately short of UHT Milk] and not a toilet roll anywhere.

Donation to the Foodbank this week a little different ... Pack of porridge and tins of pineapple. Hope that the store either rations purchases to sensible quantities of staples, or that it increases delivery frequency!

Nice to see that the store had several NHS Advice posters about handwashing with soap [takes some pressure off sanitiser, and, according to an article in the Guardian by an Australian professor of virology or immunology [?], more effective at removing the 'adhesive' of the bacterial building blocks and the complete virus' adhesion to the human skin.

There was an interesting article in yesterday's Guardian by a GP who was suggesting that one lesson from this virus might be that doctors surgeries will be forced to embrace more modern methods of communication. On example was that of a patient with a lowered immune system who on arrival in the car park contacts the surgery by phone and they text her when the doctor is ready to see her so she doesn't have to sit in the waiting room with the risk of catching all sorts of things. Perhaps the increasing use of text and emails as means of communication. There was also the possibility of using Skype for doctor consultations so that people did not need to attend the surgery.

I think that's a really good idea David but unfortunately it won't help the likes of my aged MiL, who doesn't have a car to sit in, doesn't have a smart phone, can't get to grips with emails or texts. So she will have to sit in the doctors waiting room, mostly surrounded by other aged and infirm people. Still a good idea though for the rest of us.

Lovely morning here. Mrs WN revisited the opticians who swapped the frames on her normal day to day glass with her sunglasses. Same type just different colours. We tried out our thermometer before venturing into town only to find it had expired! Shocked to find the chemist actually had some new ones in so bought 2, one for us and one for MiL. She said she preferred to see how it worked orally rather than rectally!surprised

Booked a week away on a CL in the Peak District next week. Need some fresh air and some miles in the legs.

We have very limited access to our medical centre. We're used to having phone communications with a GP within a certain time frame etc. Our receptionists quiz us on our requests for appointments and we have to listen to a recorded message explaining why this is happening from the GP before we get through. Our GP was ex forces and we obey!! wink

ps Hope you manage to get away WN.

I didn't think practices could use emails due to the risk of NHS system being hacked. That is what we were told by our surgery when we asked if it was possible to have this method of contact due to spending so much time away.

Lanzarote has its first 2 cases of the virus, confirmed last night, a couple who had come over from main land Spain, Madrid. Both now in isolation in hospital. They've been on the island a few days down at Playa Blanca.

Looks like we will have to change our ferry to Spain for mid April, was hoping not to, but with the latest news don't think we will have a choice.

frown Stay safe in Lanzarote TG. Mid April still a long way away. Check your T&Cs though. Mind you if the UK or Spanish Gov tells you not to go then the insurance may kick in.

Glad you've got a booking for next week Wherenext. At least most of the prep has been done, just some tweaking! Didnt know thermometers had an expiry date! We had a forehead one in our first aid cabinet but when I had a sort out found it didn't work so it's gone.

Tammygirl stay safe and enjoy the last few days don't forget to bring the sun back.

Sorry for those having their travels curtailed, better safe than sorry, hopefully you'll be able to enjoy a postponed trip before too long.

The thermometer didn't have an expiry date, it just wouldn't work. we can't remember the last time we used it.

No I haven't spoken to anyone at the hospital about it B2, sadly I felt there might be something wrong and I'm sure the staff would notice too and I've tried to keep a sense of humour about the experience. If it had really upset me I would contact them.

OH just brought in an ancient thermometer from the garage...more like a dipstick!! No thermometers, hand gel or loo rolls locally. For the first time our co-op had spaces on the shelves. I've decided to order food on line starting next week, we are lucky to have that service, I used to have a delivery when I was working so I'm back to the lists and web page trawling!

I'am all for using electronic communication although I appreciate there will be sections of the community that would find it difficult. Our GP surgery and local hospital send text alerts for appointments. Unfortunately the NHS (as a whole) is not that joined up. For example when Margaret visits the Rheumatologist at Bedford Hospital (less than 15 miles from where we live) they can't see any doctors notes and as a result have to duplicate tests which is a waste of time and resources.

undecided Just checked to see if any ferry companies are restricting travel yet cross chanel or Island routes  bearing in mind that you could be among dozens of passengers etc etc With that in mind i have upgraded on the Red Funnel to the I.o.W ,into the posh upper lounge (for a fee ) 'cause i think there will be less 'Joe Public' to be surrounded by !! undecided Self preservation  !! wink

We've always taken the view Triky to avoid the Waitrose stores in preference for the Aldi as more customers from Waitrose likely to go skiing in Italy than from Aldi.wink So you might be better off with us plebs.

Thanks WN, our out going ferry is under the current T&C's which will allow us to change the date up until 5 days before departure, admin fee if done by BF but free if done on line.

The return booking is on the new system which I chose the 'flexi' option so again can change that date at no cost. Depending on what is happening we might look at going to France mid May. Will have to wait and see how things pan out.

As regards staying safe here we have decided not to eat out anymore, we normally only go out a couple of times a week so no big issue. Apart from the things I mentioned on my previous post life is going on as normal here. Sun is shining, folk having a good time and to much alcohol being drunk laughing

Considering where we live it would be no hardship if we stayed in Scotland and toured there.
