What are you all up to

Different areas react differently I suppose, David. Shopping with aged Sister in ASDA Crewe, yesterday car park was less than half full and no empty shelves to be seen in the food / medicines areas. Of course it could be that folks are all hidden behind their 'Post Brexit' piles of goodies still stored at home
.
I trust you and your Lady are bearing up in view of this appalling clear blue dry sky we have at present
{ Well it is like that oop 'ere in Cheshire

An Australian newspaper has produced an edition with extra sheets to pull out in the middle all marked to cut out for the purpose.

Well by the time we get back 14 days time all the shops should have replenished
Big sister sent a message this morning telling us there is no hand sanitisers available, though she did get one for herself. If I want one she suggested I bring one back with me
no need I was well ahead of the game and bought some before coming away.
Lovely day today bit breezier, nice. Lots of clouds first thing but cleared now. Off out in awhile to explore the north of the island.
Millie its quiet here to, be interesting to see how busy it is next week, as its St Patricks day/week with lots of things organised, usually a very busy week.
Glad to hear some of you are getting some sun, hopefully those in the flooded areas are getting some to.
Had a phone call from John Lewis to say that our tv which had a problem before we left, can't be fixed, so they are looking to replace it under its warranty. Would we like a 43 inch model of the same make. Unfortunately where the tv sits (only place it can go) 40 is the largest that will fit, so they are now trying to source one.

Saw a silly woman ( other varieties of silliness are available ) on t.v. yesterday displaying the correct way to properly wash ones hands. Daft bat was playing with soap and water OK, but she'd got a watch with metal bracelet low down on her wrist impeding her doing a proper job at all. As an engineer I used to drop the expanding bracelet type watch in my pocket if I intended getting serious, and even then I have been seen giving the FixoFlex style strap a good old ABM bath { minus watch of course } with swarfega , hot water and a nail brush. Its amazing how much gunge collects in those links

We took a lunch time stroll around Montacute House today, the sun was shining and we "partook" of some decent cheese scones and a coffee en route. As our companion was a Chihuahua we had to sit out outside, luckily the tables and chairs were dry so there was no need to use a Booths memento carrier bag to sit on! So all was well. A large party of school children were making frequent use of the toilet facilities and there was much teacher talk of "wash your hands." I didn't see anyone pinching the loo paper and I hope things don't get too desperate that we have to start cutting up the i newspaper tomorrow!

We had a nice drive to the northern part of the island this afternoon. Very windy up there but the sea looked wonderful crashing on the rocky shore. Lots of folk out exploring the little towns and coast.
We went as far as Orzola, its where you get the ferry across to the little island of La Graciosa. The ferry was just coming in, glad I wasn't on it, it was rolling from side to side as it was trying to climb the waves. Even once in the safety of the harbour wall it was still getting knocked about.
We found some nice places to go on a day less windy, small coves with safe pools of sea water to bathe in. Nice and pretty and hopefully quiet and relaxing.
Saw a number of MHs parked up in some of the areas clearly spending the night/nights.

History comes to the rescue........Roman loos had sticks with moss on the end to wipe your bum. They were communal,🤢 but I think it would be allowed to have your own personal stick now🤣
We have loads of moss in our garden........😁

Well, fortunately we stocked up with toilet rolls a good while back when we had a Lidl discount voucher to use!
Today we went to Waitrose, as we had some £8 off £40 vouchers, to stock up with our favourites before our holidays. Car park not busy when we arrived about 09.45, but the store got quite busy while we were there. Did not however see anyone buying lots of toilet rolls, and there seemed little sign of panic.
After returning home with our purchases, we went down to DD's to continue the work. The gas people are working in the area, replacing all the gas pipes, so we had no gas until about 13.00, a bit chilly on the north side of the house, but the sun warmed the south side.
I still had our big freezer to defrost, so started on that this evening while OH made dinner. Going to take a while as there was a lot of ice build up. Once sorted we can freeze stuff to take with us when we go away as the van has a good size separate freezer.

I'm off to Wyatts Covert on Monday for a few nights. I'll let you know if the Toilet Block is down to newspaper on a nail.

Just caught up with the last couple of day's posts. B2 good to hear from you. Hope today was better weather wise.
Helen, we liked our trip to Wimpole Estate especially the walking in the grounds and around the gardens, but the house is too much like a museum for our likings.
Belated birthday greetings, OP. Hope you had a good day with your grandsons.
Fingers crossed that you've not forgotten anything important for your trip "over there", WM. Have a safe journey and a great time.
Yesterday was dull and cold but at least dry for most of the time. We went to Anglesey Abbey, wandered round the Winter Garden before going round the house. It was raining when we came out so didn't bother with the rest of the grounds. Much more impressed with the house than Wimpole Hall. The A14 was busy because of the extent of the road works.
Fine sunny day today, perfect for walking round Wickham Fen.

You have visited 2 of our favourite places nellie. We love both Anglesey Abbey and Wicken Fen. Glad you enjoyed them.

Another favourite tomorrow, guess where!!
Any other places in the area that you can recommend? We don't intend doing Ely this time but might head up to Ramsey and the Great Fen on Tuesday, weather permitting.
Hope that you are both having a relaxing and sun drenched time.

By heck Nell, it is a long time since I was ambling round the roof of Ely cathedral c/w my roll film camera bag ! Coming down off the roof, thro what was then a half sized door-way was the start of all my back-problems
. I just knew I should never have trusted any builder called Norman !!

It's our granddaughters birthday this coming week, so we're off out to buy the birthday present in a moment. Might just combine it with a touch of panic buying, just to be fashionable!
Then we have a family do later on in the day to help the said granddaughter celebrate. A Saturday isn't the best day to go shopping, but needs must!
Has anyone noticed how the price of fuel has also tumbled recently? Must fill up while the going is good. Off out to spend some money....
David

Nellie, there is a very pleasant walk by the river from Houghton to St Ives which is a pleasant little town especially down by the river. You might even see some alpacas along the way. There are lots of nice walks around Houghton. Maps available at the campsite and the mill. The campsite are having a Open Day today (7th) so you can have a look round the facilities and camping pods.

Same here, no back problems but I get vertigo even thinking about it, too much medieval architecture when I was a student lead to some "memorable" experiences. It's a long drop looking into the nave on the way up and it was so windy on the roof we had to lean back on it! Beautiful place to visit though....

Worse place I have ever climbed was the Wallace Monument in Edinburgh!😱 very tight getting to the top, you had to twist your body while negotiating tiny, shallow steps at the top. I was shoved from behind by OH otherwise I think I might have bottled it. Great views from the top, but strangely my memory of getting back down is erased.😱😱
Not even sure if you can still go up. I did Chesterfield Spire with Dad as a child, that’s an experience, like being drunk!😲🤪
Edit, it wasn’t the Wallace Monument......it was the Scott Monument.........so bad, I have almost erased it from my memory 😂

The glass floor at the sail, might be the stuff of nightmares then.😀

Waiting in today for the delivery of our new freezer. A shame as it's a much better day than advertised. Hopefully once it has arrived and I've set it up, we can get out for a walk.
We took our 2 year old grand daughter to Clumber yesterday to feed the ducks. It was a really lovely sunny day. The National Trust have now set their coffee truck up at the end of the lake, in place of the private Broom Wagon and put in some fancy new seating. However, if we had bought our normal coffee and cakes it would have cost £3.10 more.
Plus it was just mass produced cake, not home baked Guinness cake as previously.👎

There was a pub close to Malpas (I think) in Cheshire that had a glass plate on the floor as you stepped in. I believe, from memory, it was over an old well and some folk who were unaware would pull all sorts of acrobatic manoeuvres to avoid falling down the well.

Just finished washing the van and the car prior to setting off for Skybarn Farm CL, near Lincoln, on Monday. Part of me is saying why do I bother because I know what sort of a state they will both be in by the time we get there!
Looking very carefully at the weather forecast - strong winds forecast for this weekend before they get up to 40+mph on Tuesday again. If the forecast is accurate, Monday seems to be OK, though. Fingers crossed
