Great photos brue. One very happy and well settled little dog. I love the photo of your cat. He is definitely making sure the dog knows who is the boss!!

Hope that you had a good day with the grandkids, OP. Similar fine start to the day but clouded up later. Easy drive down to the CL and are the only van on as another cancelled due to the forthcoming storm. Interesting site, see note in Wildlife section.
Lovely pictures brue. Hope you manage to get away on Monday David.

The family from NI are supposed to be flying over tomorrow. We are waiting to hear if they make it. We are on airport pick up duty. Wish us luck.

Recalling that flight from the States to Heathrow which got a form of Jet Stream powered overdrive last week, Millie if your family is due to take off shortly after breakfast -- you'd be advised to check NOW cos they might have arrived already
!
Now it's time for Bed and an early rise
'cos the neighbours should be out early to celebrate his Lady clocking up her 100th Park Run.
(Mutter mutter, they can run as much as they like, but the Pigeons will still beat 'em home
)

An ordinary quiet weekend for us. Only essential farm work (milking, feeding, bedding, mucking out etc) - then the time is our own. Well, from 9:00 to 15:00.
Last Saturday was a bit different as it was the AGM of The Westmorland County Agricultural Society, and my husband Henry was duly elected President for the coming year. He’s not really used to public speaking but his short speech (about the family’s time at Strickley ) was well received. There will be events (mainly agricultural and rural in a broader sense) throughout the year that he will be involved in. Some I may even get invited to as well.
We donned our posh clothes and smiled (despite the cold wind) for the official photographs. We’re the ones in yellow waistcoat and black and pink.

Congratulations to Henry for taking up 'office'. Hope you all had a good time. In the past, I've done concerts for the Staffordshire Agricultural Society Christmas Meal (Saffordshre County Showground) - they are never short of a turkey or two.... or three!! Usually an extremely large turkey on each table...
Have a great year...
David

Good luck for your family arriving Millie. ✈️ A lot of flights have already been cancelled. Hope they get here safely. Brue your little dog 🐕 looks so cute, although the cat seems to have the upper hand?
We’re trying to have a lazy weekend at home. Whenever we try to plan a “nothingness” weekend we seem to get lots of invites or things “to do” suddenly crop up.......and then there’s the phone calls that start with “can you just” ! 😊 So far so good....... we’ve been food shopping and OH went to the barbers, so we’re back home, with the cupboards stocked up and waiting for storm Dennis.

They might arrive early Millie, given the wind speed!😲 Hope things stay as planned for you.
Footling around house day here as well, although I have a date with some scissors later this afternoon. Still not too bad here, bit gusty, tad damp. We are just outside predicted Amber zone though, but I hope things aren’t as bad as feared elsewhere.

I think a lot of the worries about Dennis are centred on the rain which will be falling on sodden ground with little chance of absorbtion. Don't suppose that the threats of water shortages in the deep south east have been removed yet tho

The winds are very strong here and the rain is blowing across the fields, there are quite a few flood alerts locally, I'm wondering if our nearest exit road will be under water again. There are still a few birds hanging onto the feeders. Keep safe one and all, hope the "storm force" isn't with you!

Very wet here none stop rain, windy but not overly so (not gale force) water lying everywhere but no flooding in the village as we are on a hill. The river Tay is at the bottom of the hill and with all the rain and snow on the hills it may well be near to flooding.
Tackling jobs in the house sort of day, cleared out 'stuff' from top of fitted wardrobes and 'stuff' from under bed storage. Some of it can go to charity but most is going in the bin.
Sorted some clothes out for up coming holidays (bit early) might as well use this time to do it, just in case we have a heatwave in the next week or so
OH pottering about not happy as he can't do anything, keep saying to him to sort his clothes out but that's not happening.
Granddaughter not far off arriving back at school from her skiing trip to Italy, her Mum and brother are in Stirling shopping centre just up the road so will collect her when they arrive. I'm guessing she will be shattered after 2 days on a coach full of teenagers.
Hope your family arrived safely Millie, horrible weather for anyone to be travelling in.

High Winds now building in South Cheshire, but very little rain at present, fortunately 'cos the ground resembles a sponge -- tread on it and the water is over the welt on my shoes. .
As Brue said I hope the nasty stuff passes at least 1000 feet above you all !! Think I'll get some storm pegs for my shed tho'
TammyG, Do so hope the travellers are all fit, well and Totally without coughs, sniffles etc or they could have another, enforced, fortnights holiday

There's a Silver Birch tree in the wood at the bottom of the garden. 2 years ago one of smaller branches snapped but the top bit of it remains attached by sinews to the rest of the branch. Despite numerous gales it continues to swing in the wind. Strong thing these trees. I've always admired the strength and beauty of trees.

Rosa and i had managed two almost rain free walks, but the weather really has got nasty since about 1300, and is now high winds (not as bad so far as last Sunday but more rain) and is now not nice when looking out the windows , the frogs are really churning up the water in the pond and were very vocal last night

Well done to your OH well deserved i would think , with all his behind the scenes crew
Is it something about Cumbria photographers ? when we got married at Gretna ,we had him and the video mans wife as our witnesses ",the photographer was from your county , and he spent ages getting us into the right poses, The pictures in our album have been seen by many ,who wanted his name and number, unfortunatly for others he would not come down this far

Floor finally finished at 15.30, clearing up done, and woodwork discussed. Day off tomorrow for our grand daughter's birthday party, so work will start on the facings and skirtings on Monday.
Lots of rain and even hailstones this afternoon, some strong gusts, but not too bad as yet.

Lovely photo Goldie. Hope that you also get invited to lots of those special dos.
Millie, hope that the family made it safely over from NI.
Visited Wymondham today to view the Abbey, and have a wander through the town then onto Kimberly to see the church. Rain has been on and off most of the afternoon, but dry at the moment although the wind is quite strong and the van is rocking a little.😮

Lovely photo Goldie. Well done to your OH. Sounds like you have a busy year ahead.
Glad your move went OK nellie. One of my cousins and his wife live in Wymondham but as is often the way we have never been to the abbey when we go to visit them.
Son and family safely here from NI. Their flight was at 7.00am and was a very 'bumpy' take off from Belfast as very windy. Probably one of the last to leave today. Glad they had an early flight. They were 15 minutes early which is going some on a 50 minute flight! Son says the westerly following wind blew them here. Lots of rain and wind around near East Midlands airport but not too bad here. Very blustery with showers but nowhere as bad as last Sunday. Feel so sorry for those affected by the flooding.

It's well worth a visit, Millie. Glad that your family arrived safely.

Isn't Wymondham where Bill Bryson lives? or used to?
We haven't been so must put it on our list. Still raining. Hasn't stopped all day but wind now died down a little.
Glad you get to see the family MH.
Is it just me or is Mr. Goldie the twin brother of Mr. Brue?

Yes WN there is a similarity.
I know Bill Bryson used to live in Norfolk but not sure where.
