That made me laugh brue!😁 I recall a very horsey Christmas for our household, we were both out riding on Boxing Day and “someone”🙄came off rather spectacularly jumping over a fence. The landing was soft.........edge of muck heap, however not soft enough to prevent a dislocated shoulder. So, ride in in Ambulance and all I could think was all my new Xmas riding gear ruined, then horror of horrors, I remembered that I had comfy but Bridget Jones “hello Mummy” undies on😱 Nurses wanted to cut everything off (I was in a bit of a state, injuries and smelly) but I fought to keep my jodhpurs on! 🤣🤣🤣

Out with Mum and Sis today, first time we have met up since Xmas Day due to our lingering lurgy. (Apologies to those I have smittled online!) Good to see them, Mum looked lovely in her new coat, toasty warm. Had a wander around Bakewell, but lot of shops still closed, and rather annoyingly, most of cafes had shut their doors by 3pm. Place was bustling with visitors as well.

Saw neighbour yesterday, took a meal round for her, as step daughters said she just won’t eat. Lots of help going on, practical stuff like wood cutting for stove, helping with pets. Everyone rallying in their own way to get her through these early days. Poor lass is a none driver as well, so I am going to help on that front, try and get her to do a shop with me.

MH: My OH had a cataract OP, the day of the op she couldn't see the nurse, eyechart or the wall after the op she was reading the ad on the back of the bus in front! So its worth getting done!

I went up to the sailing club today Soup and roll etc and a bit of a get together. A presentation was made for the last trophy of the 2019 season .......to me! I had no idea that I had won the series of races so a big surprise!!

My OH got a Christmas card this year wishing her better health in 2019 so that was 7days then!!

We don't have tiles in our kitchen either, the walls have lasted well with a narrow wood upstand but we need to repaint this year. The cooker is in a defunct chimney alcove and no tiles there either but a glass lid on the gas hob protects the wall. Good luck with your plans.

Hope you don't have to wait long for the cataract op Millie, at some point mine will need "doing."

Nellie hope you feel better soon.

TDA it's good that your neighbour has so many kind people around.

Tomorrow OH is off to the cinema with a neighbour to watch Le Mans 66.

    PS congrats to Robsail!

We don’t have tiles in our kitchen either David.  Well, we do have kitchen window sill tiled.  Like you we have the upstands that match the worktops and the wall behind is painted.  We haven’t found it difficult to clean should it get splashed which hasn’t been very often.  It’s much easier to repaint should you wish to have a change of colour scheme.  We were red and are now a jade green under the wall cupboards.  We have a glass splash back behind the free-standing range cooker, but we chose a white one which has been in place for 8 years now.  It’s  certainly something I would have again, it’s been brilliant.

Hey, that was a great after Christmas pressie, Robsail! Well done.

Nellie, that Ttda has a lot to answer for. However I do wish she'd kept the Bridget Jones knickers out of it!surprisedlaughing

Am still "smittled" but coping manfully.

Was hoping to go for a walk tomorrow. Will see how we both feel when we wake up.

Unfortunately (for me) DD likes tiles.  The kitchen she inherited with the house has tiles behind the hob and between worktops, which are sparkly black quartz, and wall units, but most of the bathrooms have pretty minimal tiling.

We have redone part of their en suite, so now quite a lot of tiling, 2 other shower rooms are quite new so will be staying as they are, but the 4th shower room is older and needs a bit of work, so I can see I may well end up tiling in there too.

The utility room, where we are working at the moment, will be tiled to about 50cm above the main worktop and around to the window sill and back door, but the rest will just be painted thankfully.

Good progress today, main worktop installed, sink etc all fitted and water and waste pipes and plumbing for WM all in place.  Still have to crawl under the floor and turn on the taps I fitted to isolate the water to that part of the house.  Also the radiator to connect up soon.

Trip to Ikea tomorrow to replace some faulty parts needed to complete the project.  Hoping to have all units etc in place by Sunday, then it will be the tiling, tiles still to be chosen, more electrics, and lastly the flooring, also still to be chosen.  It will be a big job as it also has to be continued into 2 adjoining store rooms, which will have to be cleared out first.

Well done robsail. What a lovely way to start the new year. Congrstulations.

Sorry to hear that nellie and WN have succumbed to the lurgy. I dont wish to be unsympathetic but please can you keep your germs to yourselves. 😁

How lovely that you are all pulling together to help your neighbour through such a difficult time tda. Poor woman must be in a complete state of shock. So lovely that she has all of you to help her. I am sure she will appreciate you all in time.

I have been told that there will be a wait of about 2 months for my cataract op. We are very lucky here as some have to wait 6 months or more. I will have to try and work it round our holiday to Tenerife in March 🤔.

Whenever you do get the cataract op done, Millieh just remember to have a good deep tinted pair of shades to use -- you'd never believe how badly the cataracts limit the light !!  What I was calling white was nearer to a sort of mid-beige in truth but after the op a blooming glow worm would have blinded me 'til I was used to it  cool.

Sorry to hear you've flattened & ruined your battery Triky.  There are times when I'd settle for a good old fashioned starting handle - even some Mini cars had a hole thro' the inside of the wing & the fitting on the end of the shaft. You just had to remember to put the wheels on full lock in order to use it  surprised.

Of course we will have tiles on the floor so won't be complete tileless! We have chosen, but not ordered, a porcelain floor tile which has a textured surface as opposed to being smooth. They will complement the colour of the kitchen cabinets but I am a little uncertain of them. They should certainly be non slip but I wonder if they will feel strange to walk on? More like a natural stone than a ceramic glazed tile. It will be an expensive mistake if we get it wrong!!!

I have floor tiles(textured) laid, in the summer they are a godsend to dissipate heat, plus the Dogs lay tummy down for the cooling effect. In the winter we lay a short napped large rug over the tiles for comfort. I’ve never regretted it👍🏻

I will definitely get the cataract op done ABM. I have been waiting about 2 years for them to refer me. I have been finding life increasingly difficult. I hardly drive now and certainly not at night and reading is a chore instead of a pleasure. I shall be glad to get it over and done with. I will make sute I have some good sunglasses ready. 😎.

We had a completely tiled kitchen for a while, including textured ones on floor. We did a complete makeover a few years ago, after removing a wall. We live in quite an old house, mid 1800’s, and try to be sympathetic to the style, but without compromising on making day to day living easy. We lost all the tiles bar behind a new range cooker, one tile as an easy clean up stand backing the work surfaces, and on the window ledge. The floor is oak panelled and runs into our sitting room area, it was expensive, but is proving very easy to maintain, and super hardwearing, especially with dogs. We never feel our walls are good enough to paint, despite most rooms being replastered, so we opted for two different but subtle wall papers that also carry through into sitting room area. Been really good around so far. I love choosing the decor and styling, but loathe actually carrying out the process. Mum was the ace wallpapered in our family, but not anymore sadly!

For kitchen or bathroom floors, I favour the so called Luxury Vinyl Tiles, which are more like a laminate as they click together in the same way, and they come in some very realistic wood effect finishes as well as tile effect and various stone effects.

Warm to walk on, non slip, and much kinder to crockery when you drop anything!  Very easy to lay and unaffected by water spills.

We are thinking of redoing our bathroom floors and will wait till DD is ready to order and combine the 2 orders to save on delivery costs.  The LVT itself costs around £17-£30 per sq m depending on quality and quantity.

OH is also waiting for a cataract op, just the right eye.  She saw the specialist in mid December and was told the wait was about 12 weeks, so hopefully it will be done before our first planned trip this year.

Apparently there will be a pre op assessment about 2 weeks before when they will discuss what lens to fit and what to expect at the procedure.  She is a little apprehensive.

My top tip is to get the best wooden flooring you can afford, some laminate is appalling quality. We shopped around and got a brilliant price on real wood. 😁

One of the best days weather wise for a while down here. Drove over to Devizes, parked outside the C&CC site (which was surprisingly busy) and walked into town along the towpath past Caen Hill locks and back. Then went for lunch at a pub which had been recommended as dog friendly - well, you know that's right when you see that dogs have their own section on the menu (sausage & mash or chicken & veg for £1!) laughing

When we paid there was a chocolate for each of us and a biscuit for Lady too! So thoughtful! smile

A lovely fine day - so more hedging on the go.

Inside I've been catching up with paperwork and then getting ready for visitors tomorrow night. I'm not a great one for housework - at least if you leave the dust you can see what you've done when you get round to it. I seem to be shrinking as I've had to ask for help to do the top shelves of the dresser and bookcases.

I've started on the food - Morecambe Bay shrimps potted and in the fridge. Chocolate Mousse in the fridge. Meringues in the Aga bottom oven for a few hours.

Time to sit down and watch South Pacific which has been recording (I hope) this afternoon.

CY , avoid laminate like the plague , you only have to mention the word water and it bubbles.😀. If your budget stretches to it I would strongly recommend a product named Karndean , excellent floor covering. Not touting for business, even though I install it .😀😀.

We were in JL today and whilst Margaret was making a purchased I went into the Carpet Department to have a look at the Amtico flooring, I got no further than the £65 a sq metre sign, and that doesn't include fitting which I understand is quite specialist!!!

Nice day here as well, so I have been in garden most of day. We haven’t had any rain for around a fortnight now, but the ground is still very wet. Shows how much it has rained. Checked on new hedging, seems to be doing very well, including the spares potted up just in case we lost any. Great to see bulbs poking through, but way too much growth on some things. Roses are still flowering. Ok, struggling to get fully open, but still doesn’t seem “right” to me. Sorted out a gardener to do a big hedge cut and clear up, and hopefully recommend a tree surgeon. We need two huge beech trees sorting.....we need a local Rocky!

The neighbour who has passed away was a Landscape gardener who used to do a lot for us all, did the big stuff for us.

Also booked our first non touring holiday for this year. Lovely cottage near Skipton, on a nice farm where we have stayed a few times on a CL.😁

Hello all, not been on here for over a week so have just spent a while catching up on every ones news.

We had a lovely Christmas day at my nieces house, on boxing day we went to see OH's Mum and met up with his SIL and her daughters and grand daughters. What a lovely family, all very interested in finding out about us and our boys. Unfortunately the eldest grand daughter got a bit upset when she saw OH as it reminded her of her Dad who passed away in the summer frown Lots still to catch up on, on both sides.

New Year was very quiet we didn't even bother to stay up for 'the bells' heard a few fireworks go off at midnight but only for a few minutes. Went in to see OH's Mum on New Year day and had a good visit with her.

Eldest son and family came up for New Year staying at in-laws. They came to us for dinner on the 1st and today OH and son collected MIL's electric reclining chair from her house and took it into the home for her.

The machine knitting is coming along fine 3 jumpers done know smile and I've also knitted by hand 2 baby cardigans. I had a request from son, could I knit him a cricket sleeveless top with cables and his Corp colours through the welts and neck band surprised Oh and can I do it by the beginning of February and send it to him as he is playing cricket in Cyprus mid Feb. No pressure then laughing wool bought today and measurements taken.

We've (me) booked us a cruise at the end of January, 2 nights in Rome to start with then a cruise around the Med for a week. I know the weather might not be that great but it will be nice to get away for awhile and be spoiled.

We have tiles in both the kitchen and the bathroom walls. The bathroom also has floor tiles with underfloor heating, lovely. The kitchen has laminate flooring but it looks like rustic floor tiles, had them down for 11 years now and they are as good as new, cold on the feet in winter as we have concrete floors. If I was re-doing the kitchen I don't think I would have tiles again but go for the new type of wall covering my niece has on her kitchen walls, it matches her worktops and looks lovely, she says it very easy to look after.

Hope all those that have been feeling under the weather are now feeling a bit better.

Well done from me to Robsail, great way to start the New Year.

Hope that your cataract operations comes off soon.

Loved your horsey tale,Tda, and good to see that you and the neighbours are rallying round for the poor lady.

I managed a bit more sleep last night and felt a bit better this morning, however by this evening I feel nearly as lousy as yesterday evening, so another early night for me.

Hope that you area feeling better tomorrow, WN, and you  can get out for a walk.

My sister has Amtico flooring but I am not sure I am keen. Heard some horrendous stories of it being damaged if you need to move an appliance. In the kitchen all the appliances will be integrated but the utility will still be freestanding. We will probably take a trip down to Topps Tiles next week just to have a wider choice to look at. The kitchen fitter is coming on Tuesday to do a survey so will discuss it with him as he will be doing the work.
