Wet and very windy here too during the day, but better now.

Slow progress on the project as all the units have been altered in depth, so all the shelves also need to be cut down in size, and the fixings at the rear of the units also had to be relocated.  This all because the Ikea units, which DD already had, are quite deep and the utility room is not that wide, so units have been reduced to the minimum depth needed for the oven and the drawers.

The last unit has now been made down Ε΅to size and assembled, so should be in place tomorrow and I can get on with the last piece of worktop in there, though there is still a 2metre one to make for the study.

My little "helper" also slows things down, so I have to do as much as possible before he comes home from nursery!

Congratulations Millie.  Wonderful news about the addition to the family.  Best wishes to all.

We had a similar thing happen here at the Abbey recently.  One of the senior members of our choir died suddenly on the Saturday before Christmas.  What started as a cold turned into pneumonia and then Sepsis.  It was a great shock to our community.

    Best wishes to all

Triky, upon relocation to the Island, will you keep your Concorde on the mainland? If not, I might buy some Red Funnel shares. wink

Sad to hear some folks have experienced a loss, just like us, it’s very hard.

robsail, best wishes for your OH, hope her progress continues as well.

And congrats to your family as well Millie.

Dry here in York, and I can see a bit of blue sky. Might be Castle Museum for us today, I think we were both children last time we visited!πŸ˜‚

Had a visit from the kitchen installer yesterday evening to go through the work. It seems they allow two weeks!!! We are having the ceilings skimmed so he is trying to arrange it so that it is done and ready for painting over a weekend when they won't be working. Lucky I suppose that we have the motorhome in the back garden which we can use for cooking!

Two weeks was what it took to have ours done about 10 years back David. We decided to move out for the fortnight and rented a little cottage nearby. Best decision we ever made! It meant they could get on with the job, we could get on with something close to a normal life and we just checked in with them at the end of each day to check on progress. They did an excellent job. ...... so good that Mrs M is mumbling about having it done again! surprisedsurprised

Another mild day, catching up with news on here.

We had our ceiling done before we started on a new kitchen David, it was chaotic at first with additional wiring etc and then the fitter sorted the new units quite quickly.

Congratulations Millie, so pleased to hear your Gt Granddaughter has arrived safely.

Hope you enjoy the Castle Museum TDA, we went there last year in the snow, so had it nearly to ourselves and it was much the same as my childhood memories too...except that my youthful sixties era has now been added! When you realise you're becoming a museum feature you realise you're getting older!! wink

Beautiful day here today, complete contrast to yesterday when it rained all day, tried to blow us off our feet and felt like night time all day long.

Work has started in our bedroom with the decorating, first coat of emulsion on, waiting for the glitter to arrive in shop for the main wall. Saw this done at my nieces when through there, its subtle not in your face kind of look. Only really comes to life when the lights are on or sun shinning on it, so giving it a try.

Congratulations Millie on the birth of your great granddaughter.

Good luck with the kitchen David, ours was done about 10 years ago when we were still working, took about 4 days I seem to remember, however we did all the tiling and decorating.

My sister is in the process of having hers done, so far the fitter has been, the kitchen selected just waiting for the drawings to be produced and possible tweaked.

Don't think we will be doing ours anytime soon as it still looks good.

Living room will the next big job as the ceiling needs to be completely stripped and re-done. That will mean the cornice will need to come off and then a full re-decoration of the room. New carpet and new suite to smile not going to happen this year as to many other things on the books.

Another dry day here πŸ˜€, 11c at present. It's been dry since the grand dog went back the Friday after Christmas, just as we knew it would be! With the exception of Christmas Day it rained every day of her stay πŸ˜‚. We had 8 inches of rain between 22 October and 31 December unheard generally for this dry area!

Been mixed start to our new year, we celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary, they lowered the age of consent especially for us πŸ˜‰. In view of OH's health last year and then losing mum it ended up being a very low key day, a Sunday, and we met son and DIL near Duxford, about halfway between us, for a lunch time meal, very acceptable but not outstanding. We also had a very enjoyable trip to the panto, Goldilocks and the 3 bears at the London Palladium - coach pick up and drop off a short walk from home and closer drop off and pick up to the theatre! We had 2.5 hours of shopping opportunity before the performance. We enjoyed a good wander around Liberty's, somewhere I've never visited despite loving their prints. Money needed for purchases 😱😱 but that wasn't stopping the tills ringing, but it was the actual building which was of real interest, beautiful. We also had a very enjoyable lunch. The performance was amazing and thoroughly enjoyable if rather risque! Someone else, trellis?, mentioned seeing it earlier and it was as good as they suggested.

Yesterday we laid mum to rest - seems to have been ages since she passed, 6 weeks on Thursday. She had a really good send off, church packed and standing room only. In her 89 years she remained within 2 miles of the village she was born in. She was baptized, confirmed, married and buried - with my dad, in her village church, despite the direct view from our (she lived in the same house one village over from her birth village for 64 years and the 3 years before in the flat above our village vicarage nextdoor to our village church) lounge window over the former cricket ground being the village church! She and dad returned to 'her village' church to worship in the 1990's. Today I'm just letting things wash over me before we hit the ground running very soon no doubt.

    Great to read folks news

Congratulations milliehull on the birth of your great grandson, big lad by my standards, around the 6lb mark, I expect he still appears very tiny. Best wishes to all your family and I hope your granddaughter recovers quickly and settled into family life - just like the adverts πŸ€”πŸ˜‚πŸ€

Very saddened to read of sudden deaths of members of Peterborough cathedral and Polstead abbey communities. We must remember life is very precious.

Good luck to all those undertaking renovations and decorating projects, I don't envy you at all. It all seems to civilised whilst discussing in your comfy lounge or browsing the wares in the shops. It's usually lovely once complete but that bit inbetween 😱😱. KjNelln you seem to be fully employed for the past year and the one ahead by the sound of things! I'm going to settle for clean and by the look of things I won't have time to get any silly ideas for ages!

That said I fear after our new conservatory roof we are going to have to have new roof blinds, hopefully find out if it maybe possible to put back up the original ones this week, and I noticed a couple of tiny 'tears' in the window blinds in the folds so could well be all the blinds will need to be replaced! They've only been up 18 years πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. Hadnt realised just how long until we did a work out recently!

Nelliethehooker I hope your arm is healing nicely and you can resume your travels before too long.

Tricky it's good to read you're contemplating taking your foot off the gas a bit.

I hope all those who have hospital appointments have successful outcomes.

Nice to hear from you again Bakers.

I do hope this year is going to be a better on for you and OH. Having to wait 6 weeks to lay your Mum to rest is an awful time,  you must have felt in limbo and over the festive season to. Good to hear she had a good send off.

Second coat of emulsion now done and I've made a start on the skirting boards with undercoat. More coats of emulsion will be needed as we are painting over a patterned wall paper, not sure how its going to turn out but couldn't be bothered stripping the paper off and then having to put more on the wall. Here's hoping it will turn out ok.

Sun went for awhile and we got a wintry shower but now back to clear skies again so guess we are in for a cold night.

Its our 48th  wedding anniversary today, where did all those years go to.

Great to hear from you Bakers. I was wondering how you were keeping. Congrats on your 40th. At least you spent it in a better place than we did. Ours was last year and Mrs WN spent it sitting in a waiting room outside the X Ray department waiting for MiL to come out from having her brain scanned. No jokes please but she did mention that they didn't find anything!

48th. Tammy? And you look so young. Must be an old photo then.smile Congrats. I see you were royally treated, probably got a new paintbrush.

We've spent a pleasant lunch hour or three at our local toasting Mrs WN's birthday. No cooking for me tonight. All feel pleasantly full but could probably manage a glass or two of a nice Merlot.

Well done Bakers2 for getting through the long wait to give your Mum a good send off. Congrats on your 40th anniversary, that's worth a celebrationπŸŽ‰

Apologies to Millie for getting the new gt grandson mixed up with granddaughter.

Tammyg. Hope your anniversary is going well too.

WN nice to hear it's a cook's night off and the birthday lunch went well.

We had to collect visiting dog today, daughter's partner had to drive to Cumbria, his grandpa aged 96 went missing this week and is now safely in hospital for tests etc. and much to sort out. We still have elderly relative in hospital in the midlands and oldest daughter doing her best there.

We are on duty this evening as Mummy and Daddy have gone out for a meal and to see a film.  The boy is splashing around in the bath, hopefully he will agree to come out soon!

Then there is the battle to get him to go to sleep, I must say he does not sound very tired yet!

Last unit in Utility Room now in place and worktop cut to the rough size, it will need more work tomorrow.  Now we know what we need to get exchanged or sorted out at Ikea, we will make the trip there on Friday.

Time now to measure up for tiles and flooring and get those ordered up.

No wonder the NHS is having problems, OH medication cut down by a half. Can't just cut the tablet in two as it mucks up the absorption rate! so the supply that we had recently got has to be ditched at Β£1 per tablet that equates at Β£56 per box!!

There was snow on the Pentland Hills behind Edinburgh today!

I know exactly what you mean. After cracking my ribs and puncturing a lung last year I was given some Oxycodone medication to bring home despite telling the hospital staff that I couldn't take it as my kidneys couldn't cope with it. I'd already had to give them back the tablet form when being their guest for a week. I don't know whether they reused the tablets but the liquid bottle went back to the chemists unopened. Goodness knows what the cost was.The amount of waste that you see in the NHS makes me angry but not for long as there is nothing I can do about it. Good luck with your wife's recovery. Hope you manage to get away this year.

The last thing that Mrs nellie would want is any more junk lying about the place, ABM, so it will go into one of the hospital's bins. As we had to come home when I did the dastardly deed there are no autographs on it either so not worth much on e-bay.wink

From my experience, WN, I doubt that the tablets got re-used at all.

Some time back I got my diabetes meds and the bag looked different in size. So I checked the contents whilst still in the pharmacy and found I'd been given the correct Type of insulin but not in the 'Pens' that I use. Oh, so sorry, they said, went & rechecked the doctor's paperwork & came back with the correct stuff. I handed back the 'wrong' stuff & it was dumped into the waste medications bin in front of me saying " It's been labelled and issued so its now scrapped "

Thinking of your plaster cast WN, if it's a clean, tidy plaster, untouched by biro, pencil or marker pen it could be sold on teehee bay under Rarities perhaps  wink

I don't know if any of you that take regular medication have noticed recently that tablets that previously came in easy to open boxes are now sealed. I suspect the NHS is between a rock and a hard place with medications that have been issued but not consumed and I reckon its standard practise to destroy returned medication. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not the law because clearly it happens all across the country.

Indeed David, my stuff now comes with a self adhesive disc applied across the opening flaps. They are not too hard to break open but, as you say, probably done to comply with 'Elf and Safety, so I've got no quarrel with that.  But to scrap meds that have not left the pharmacy staff's eyesight does seem a tad extreme.
