Just recovered from the dreaded lurgy, temperature, aching bones, generally feeling lousy, poor me frown

We've (me) booked us a cruise at the end of January, 2 nights in Rome to start with then a cruise around the Med for a week. I know the weather might not be that great but it will be nice to get away for awhile and be spoiled.

We were in Rome as part of our cruise, back in September. It was very busy, mostly because it coincided with a day of action (climate change) taken by schoolchildren. Lots of banging of drums and singing, quite inspirational really. Will you be visiting Villefranche? From there we caught a bus into Nice, around 3€ return, great value. The best part though was on our return to Villefranche, we sat and had a couple of drinks at a bar, looking out to sea, lovely 😊 Hopefully the weather will be kind to you 👍

Sorry to hear you had the lurgy, Freddy. Please all of you keep it down south really don't want it. My sister had it before Christmas, she still has a bit of a cough but other than that she is now fine. Surprised that her OH hasn't caught it off her, he is very vulnerable at the moment, had his second chemo session a week ago and seems to have coped with it better than his first session, they cut him down to 75% as the first session really floored him for a few days.

Looking forward to our 2 nights in Rome not been there before, followed by the cruise. Not going to Villefrance. Its Rome, La Spezia, Savona, Marseilles, Barcelona and  Mallora. Hoping to do Cinque Terra when we are at La Spezia not sure yet what we will do at the other places.

As long as we see the sun I'm not bothered if its not hot, just really fed up of grey skies and lights on all day long.

Have you been watching Gino's Italian Express? In episode 3 he visits Cinque Terre by train. Can't remember where he starts from but it might give you a few ideas.

We have been to Rome a couple of times, lovely City. Just be a bit careful on public transport and railway stations with purses and wallets.

The area where we live in MK has a Local Centre with shops etc. One of the units is a community meeting place and outside is little wooden structure where people can exchange books. It's been there without incident for a year or more. Unfortunately the other night it was vandalised. The good news is that the local community Facebook page has raised over £400, in just a couple of days,  to have it repaired and hopefully made a bit stronger. Good to see people coming together.

You may have already worked this out, but just in case......

Make sure the floor tiles are run in well under the units and the plinths fitted on top of the tiles.  If done the other way round, it makes it very difficult to replace a built in appliance such as a dishwasher!

David , when moving any appliance on a hard floor ,try to rock it first to" break the seal" ,then put a drop of washing up liquid on the feet . It will glide around much easier then .

So annoying when such places are vandalised. My sister has taken our parents out for a drive for years (just Mum now), and one of their favourite little stops was an old telephone box in a lovely little village that was used as a book exchange. Been there years. Some lowlife had set fire to it and badly damaged it just before Christmas. Village has rallied round though, they are buying another and re establishing it again. We take boxes of books into organisers every now and then.

Reading that again, I should also have said that I would either have the finished  flooring continued into the appliance space, or just a layer or two of ply fitted in the space, to make it level with the floor.

Will make it much easier to remove the appliance if the floor surface is all at the same height.  The integrated dishwashers stand on legs, they are the main problem, fridges and freezers slot into a housing unit so no problem there.

My preferred option would be to remove everything from the kitchen/utility and tile right up to the walls so the entire kitchen can be built on one level. I am not sure if this is possible as I am not doing the work but will discuss with the Fitter who is coming to do the work survey on Tuesday. It is another worry about the textured tiles we quite like and whether they will make it more difficult to move freestanding appliances in the utility more difficult to move?

If you have concrete floors that sounds OK, the tiles would presumably have a solid adhesive bed.  On a suspended floor, such as we have, even with the necessary stiffening, I would worry about the weight of a well loaded unit  on the tiles as they are supported on legs, which does not spread the load evenly over the surface.

Your fitter would be able to advise you on that.

Not sure about moving things on textured tiles, again you would need to take advice from a professional tiler.

A lovely sunny morning, with a bit of a bite in the wind, so we managed to find our boots and went for a walk. We were going to walk over the top from our village but there was a pheasant shoot going on. Poor pheasants, just bred for murdering. So we toddled down lightly used back lanes and enjoyed a couple of hours of quite lovely countyside.

A bit of garden maintenance and tidying up this afternoon.

Cold wind but sunny day in North Norfolk first time we have noted at Blakeney all the little mobile cafes had been taken away for the winter and the car park cabin moved to higher ground, they have had some really high tides last year,so I think it could be even higher before they expect to open again

Last night here before returning to our second home for 8 nights

Had a great new year here the wardens (managers)and the complex staff really made it a great few days, well done them all not many on now a lot went home today, site closes Monday but could well be opened all year,I am sure it would be an asset to the area,

"The Virus has Returned" a new film written by me from my sick bed, co-produced by visiting terrier sharing the comforts. Hoping this is the last bout of general misery, bad sore throat and coughing. Best wishes to anyone out there suffering the same.

Not a bad place to be as it's gone very cold tonight after a lovely red sunset.

    Just reading your posts. 🛌

Yes we've been watching Gino and saw the programme about Cinque Terre. We had looked at going there with the caravan but if we can do it from the ship it will be great,  at that time of year we will be there it wont be to busy I hope. As to Rome our hotel is very near the Spanish Steps so hoping we can do a lot of it on foot but thanks for the warning about pick pockets, our youngest son who has been a few times said the same.

🤧It has been a stinker for lingering this one, still a bit of odd coughing and snuffling going on here still. We are all set for our footie trip North tomorrow, pooch has his favourite doggy sitters in tomorrow, so he won’t miss us one little bit! MH is sorted ready to roll as well, complete with hot lemons, a hot water bottle and some alcoholic remedies!🥴

It’s an odd trip for us, once we are on site, no intention of moving anywhere this time, just a lot of strolling around. Anyone in York shortly, look out for a large dog stroller rolling along, it will be us!😂

Sorry to hear you're suffering again, Brue.  These ' minor '   winter ailments can be a right ******* nuisance, its almost as if the body says Hm not serious and so does not really mobilise its defences. I quite understand how rotten, 'orrible and miserable  you may feel, 'cos I was the same twelve months ago coughing & spluttering for nigh on two months. Not even the arrival of the monthly Traction Engine mags could cheer me up, honestsurprised . At least the sugar levels were ok 'cos I didn't fancy eating much, either innocent, but I don't think you have that problem wink.

I do seem to recall, from years back, folks used to say we really need a proper week or longer spell of deep frost "  to kill the bugs off " .

    Not sure how true it is but ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, ,,

OH has been suffering since Christmas, sore throat and bad cough, but no cold.  Seems to have been one thing after another the last few months.  She is exhausted as the coughing keeps her awake.  I seem to have escaped most of it thankfully.

Good progress today with the utility room, cupboard doors fitted along one side, old oven moved from kitchen and new one installed.  DD bakes birthday and wedding cakes as a sideline so wanted extra oven space.  Will also be handy for Christmas!

One cupboard plus small worktop still to make to size.

A  couple of the new drawers will not fit into the units.  Comparing  them with those that do, they are 2mm wider, and the runners are rusting, so something is not right.  Also, Ikea have given us one door front rather than a drawer front, so that means another trip there next week.  Hopefully the last for a while!

Mmm, we were getting on quite well until we found these duff parts!  Luckily none of them were immediately essential so we decided to carry on with the right bits and sort all the wrong ones at the end. Just all takes extra time.

Once all the units etc are in place, I still have the radiator to connect up, wall tiling and LVT floor to do, then some painting to finish and all the door facings and skirtings to replace.

At least the washer and dryer are operational again!

Thanks for the commiserations, got up late today and hope to keep going, very sorry to hear of others with similar too. Just now I wish I had your energy Kj as we have some jobs that need doing. Whilst lying in bed I could hear the mystery intruder(s) in the roof, we can't work out whether it's a squirrel, mice, bats or rats. Small traps haven't produced anything so now going up to a bigger size. The thatched cottages near us often attract roof visitors but we're usually ok. There was a bad house fire locally due to an electrical fault in a roof (or some sort of damage) so we've got to sort it! frown Hey ho, sniffle sniffle, hope your days are going well!

Now at our "second home "for a week before possibly heading home,

Last night at Seacroft there were

17 motorised caravans, none moved since pitched up, one had a convoy car which was used to go out

3 towed caravans,  all the tow vehicles were used to go out some days

1 motor caravan ,that went off site every day they were there

which we have noted  seems the pattern on any site that has public transport or town/village close by and speaking to some of the owners, if there were not they would not use the sitesurprised
