Very strong wi ds here tonight and again overnight Saturday into Sunday even worse then so will have to move a few things outside for safety reasons, not keen on windy weather.

They did state that whoever was in charge of new dresses orders at M&S should be sacked forthwith as they seem to have abandoned their main custom base. I have no comment to make.
The trouble is that M&S think differently to many of their traditional customers. They have invested massively in trying to attract a younger clientele as they are the ones with the money as they see it! It's not quite the same for men but not much better especially when it comes to sizing. Margaret always says she wants a hem line below the knee not above it!!!

Agree with that statement, finding something suitable nowadays is getting harder and harder. I always loved M&S clothes as they were well made and true to size. Unfortunately not anymore.
Mind you looking round some of the other shops the latest 'fashion' isn't very inspiring, seem to have seen it all before. Oh dear does that mean I'm getting old

Nellie glad your home safe and well. Embrace the different Christmas youβre going to have. Curve balls are sent to try us. π
Off to work in a minute for my last day. The whole office is taking food in today so we will be eating all day. π

Your Last Day, ADD46
, does this mean you are retiring then ??
Hope you get a good stock of Lincolnshire sausages in then !!
Still Lincolnshire is in the news this week with the 3-year old from Twenty, Lincs getting on his Paw Patrol truck ( whatever one of them is ) to fetch help for his father who had suffered a 'seizure'. Quarter of a mile down the A151 his efforts were rewarded when a couple of ladies came to his aid !! Apparently he told the Police that " His Daddy was poorly " Right little hero !! Hope all turns out well for Little Stefan and his father

Thatβs the problem David. They are trying to be all things to all women and itβs not working. I doubt that anyone under 35 would even consider looking in M&S, let alone buying. (Maybe for knickersπ€£) Designs with the odd exception are frankly awful. I thought Iβd wandered onto set of Abigails Party a few months ago! Dresses and skirts way too short, tops that finish on waist, more frills than a regency buck, and the sizing is all over. It was impossible to find a pair of jeans in my size in βlongβ length, so I just gave up. They had lots of skinny teenage size 6 stuff, but not a teenager in sight. Even my 90 year old Mum was horrified at some of the stuff, so they are not attracting anyone really. You can buy a pair of jeans one week a certain size, go back next week, and very similar jeans will be a different fit! The staff are very aware there are issues as well.
couple of examples of dresses, I make no comment, but am shaking my head in disbelief. One has no reviews, the other as far as I can see has two, and one of those the author didnβt keep it!

These dresses are exactly what the ladies were describing to me Ttda. Looks like something out of a Margaret Attwood book. Mrs WN did wonder whether their designer was related to Karen Carpenter.
(Not often I get to discuss ladies dresses on a forum. Weird.

One does wonder what will become of M&S? Clearly their latest investment in Ocado suggests an increasing investment in Food which does have a good reputation. However if their branches become more like food shops that is going to alienate even more of their clothes buyers. I thought the introduction of the Per Uno range was a good move and Margaret has purchased from that range. I think the initial idea being to provide a more modern wardrobe for the, how should one put this, for the forty plus age range. It only worked to an extent. What I suspect the more traditional customers of M&S want is more classic designs with the quality to match for which they are probably willing to pay a slight premium for. The trouble is that my observation of clothes retailing is that they are competing with two ends of the market. At the bottom you have Primark and towards the top you have the likes of John Lewis who concentrate of major fashion brands which most certainly have a premium price but shoppers at both ends of the scale are unlikely to go to M&S?

Meant to mention to you David that there was an article in the i newspaper during the week (or maybe the end of last weeks) about those Christmas lights of your near neighbours in MK. What a sight. Full page spread as well. Sorry, it slipped my mind.

I spent some time this morning checking van and car tyre pressures before our trip down to Somerset for Christmas and NY. Van tyres were well down so sorted that. Then checking car tyres, noticed that there's a nail in rear drivers side tyre. Off to nearest tyre place. Too close to sidewall to be fixed so it's Β£150 for new tyre tomorrow. I asked the boss if he would gift wrap it, he thought that was hilarious!
So glad I checked though. I usually do but it s so easy just to assume things are ok. I drove 140 miles on the M6 yesterday, presumably with the offending nail in the tyre. βΉοΈ

Yes, I do wonder as well. Per Una has been around a long time, and you could usually rely on it being a bit better designed, classier looking, but certainly over last couple of years it hasnβt been the case. I still like M&S jeans, but trying to get hold of long length has been really difficult. The problem has been solved for us, we no longer have an M&S, nearest is at Meadowhell, and to be honest isnβt worth the hassle of getting there.
Only food items we buy are lemon mayonnaise and their Cornish Cruncher cheese sauce. I think they have linked up with Booths Supermarkets as well for online, might take a look at that.
Miserable wet day here. Passed dentist with no further treatment, pooch is walked, stove about to be lit, dinner planned, βmeβ time now!π

Spent the morning in Whitley Bay while waiting for Mrs C to finish school at 12.
Found a lovely Italian cafe behind the Spanish city. They did the best cannoli I've come across over here. Also some interesting ice cream.
So I took the cannoli and left the gunπ

GGregu. Good job you checked, hope you enjoy your time away, we've actually seen the sun in Somerset today!
Well I was in M&S this morning, it was quite busy, especially in the food section. Just as an aside many retailers are going to have to look at clothes production and the throw away era is probably coming to an end, the cheaper end of the market really wastes resources and we're all dressed in many forms of plastic! Anyway good luck to all those Christmas shoppers, a couple of hours was enough for me today! π

Coffee Time.
Corners, if you are ever in the Bolton area, and why wouldn't you be?, then try Cafe Italia Bolton. They have a wonderful selection of Italian Pastries. Unfortunately they were not GF but the MiL tasted a couple and pronounced them the best she had eaten since Verona. You can always walk them off by heading to Rivington and walking up the Pike towards Winter Hill.
Ggregu - What sort of tyre do you have? That's a hefty price for one. Anyway glad you found it before the trip. Enjoy your break.

That looks our kind of ice cream place Corners! Filed away for a future NE visit!π

Dry day today and no frost
Took the Kuga into Perth to take back some leggings I got yesterday
Left OH at home doing a few jobs, really needed a bit of shopping on my own time.
TDA, I've got a few pairs of M&S jeans which I bought from Chester Fair Oaks a couple of years ago, great fit, great length (I need long) having tried recently to get more of the same, its been a dead loss. Like you say sizing is all over the place. I have however found a great pair (grey) from Bonmarche. Nice stretchy fit, straight leg, great length and really comfortable fit, big bonus is they are true to size. Ordered them online and collected from shop but you can get them delivered to home.
Jumper now knitted on machine, just got to pick up the neck and sew it all together.

Itβs officially Christmas βΊοΈ. Finished this βworkβ thing π. Iβve battled through the traffic in town and now have a glass of red in my hand. π· Father Christmas can arrive now.
ABM - retirement is a long way off for me.....sadly.
Richard&Ros - βworkβ is a place where we go to socialise. π3 -
TG. Our three, when young, used to be kitted out in hoody type jumpers, made on a family friends machine. The jumpers were always red, their cousins had them too, they looked liked a group of pixies but the jumpers were fantastic and lasted well.
ADD46, posted at the same time, enjoy your holiday! πππ

Couldn't agree more with comments on M&S ladies clothes. Bought jeans there earlier in the year, can't get them now π€π€ such a basic staple. My friend who needs short legs going loco because they've added 2 inches to their short leg length - explanation ladies are wearing higher heels. I can't write her response π. Safe to say she suggested that folks who wore higher highers bought a longer length. She doesn't have any sewing skills so has to has to pay someone, she lives in Northumberland so I can't help, to have them altered. You should hear on the 'naming' of the Jean range, she says why cant they be big bum, large waist, skinny thigh, etc at least that would give you a clue as to the shape! They can about losing out to online but if I wander in and find something π± rare and want to try it on they don't have it, can order it online π€π€π€, could do that from my armchair!
Glad to hear the paid work has ceased for you today ADD46 sadly I don't expect the non paying variety has ceased though.
Our town, sorry city, girdlocked - at always does with a dribble of rain, and we've had lots more than a dribble lately, we have several natural ponds in the garden now, glad I can walk to get things. Tesco girdlocks itself this time of the year, which then causes the area to melt down, folks posting they've been sitting for a hour in the carpark without moving!
Sounds like folks have been productive, as have I π made mince pies, walked the dog, cleaned, caught up with a friend and planned mums order of service, family print firm, WET dog walk. Now chillin

They could offer me a cheaper tyre but the others are all Bridgestone on my XTrail and I didn't want to put on a different make on one wheel. I paid Β£120 last time whenever Kwikfit did it on the drive. I'm happy to pay the premium if it means we can get away to gorgeous Somerset on Monday as planned.
Merry Christmas everyone

What a very wet day started last night , and has not let up, numerous hard standing pitches under several inches of water, site sits on thick clay just below the surface so the water does not drain, so quite a problem for site staff, they had to close site ,when there was last long period of rain
,
Did some shopping this afternoon (after digging trenches to try to drain pitch with some success) Aldi had every checkout open and several products had run out

They do last well your right, I started out knitting school jumpers for my boys as I got sick of them coming home with rotten old tatty ones and their nice new ones gone to someone else. So with a bit of my own design I made them school jumpers, never had another one go missing
I bet the pixies looked great
ADD46, glad that's you on your Christmas break, hope you have a good one.
Shops still not busy here, those with trolleys though look as if they are buying for the year not just one day, total madness.

Bakers2 - oh youβre so right! The next four days involve ripping out the fitted wardrobes in our main bedroom so that decorating can be done in the new year and then new furniture built and positioned. I will need to go back to work for a rest. Really not looking forward to the mess this will involve and having all the furniture in the wrong rooms. Luckily weβve been invited to my mother in laws for Christmas Day, which is just as well, as our bed in currently in the dining room! More wine!
Tammygirl- good Christmas wishes to you and yours too. Iβm determined to get the removals of wardrobes finished in time to have a short break in the caravan. Only a local to us CL (about a 50 minute tow) which I canβt wait to get there and settle in for a few nights R&R.
We start all this tomorrow morning.........
