What are you all up to

Dry again today with a breeze, the clouds are building though so not staying on here long as I've got some plants to get in the garden still.
Caravan packed ready to go away, just the duvets to go in, in the morning. I'm keeping them in the house as its so cold at night here, just now and we can't leave the heating on in the van.
We've got our flu jabs this afternoon and then we are off to the cinema to watch Downton
might even eat out
Managed to move our site booking from Banchory to Stonehaven, got a cancellation, so mega happy about that. Banchory is nice (and cheaper) but I do like to be by the sea even in winter.
We are off to the caravan & MH show in Aberdeen this weekend, got tickets for Friday. What shall we do on Saturday ? maybe KJ's OH can suggest something, as I know she comes from there. Not interested in going round the shops, we've been to the castle. Suggestions welcome.
Off to go and plant these plants.

TG, If the Dee is in flood could you not pretend its just a rather narrow sea, perhaps
. On second thoughts perhaps not
.
Sorry, only even worse jokes than usual 'cos I've just been to the Surgery ( see posts on the last couple of pages
) only to discover car park and on-street parking all full. Drove round to Supermarket, parked up and walked back to discover the cars were all from the surgery which was " Closed for Staff Training ". At least I got some exercise which, in truth, I need more of
.

I've been catching up on here and realising that most of you seem to fit much more than us into your days. Maybe because we're not retired! I retired from paid work 10 years ago, but I can't imagine retiring from the farm. I don't do any physical work, but all the accounts and most of the other paperwork. And act as a general factotem. Plus cook and bottle washer. I couldn't bear not to know what's going on.
But we do get out occassionally. Last Saturday we went to a haunt near Nellie - Coronation Hall at Ulverston. It was a "double header" gig, but we wouldn't have gone for the first band. Not at all out taste. Merry Hell however were fantastic - OH and I even got up to dance! Back home at midnight and up at 5 in the morning.
Farm work definitely keeps OH fit. The only doctor/hospital visits are accident related!
Next week cross the border into Yorlshire - Show of Hands at Harrogate. And a night in a Premier Inn.

Don't talk down the value of the 'Paperwork' like that Goldie.
Many, many years ago I was opening the Company mail, filing and organising as required when a voice from behind said " Why when I visit the 'outstations' do I never seem to catch you working " After the steam cleared I said that my little place was given exactly the same post for maintenance purposes as one in larger towns or cities such as Hanley or Birmingham and I was expected to deal with it and with my own duties without any assistance, whereas the larger building had THREE Clerical Assistants, none of whom were as talented or good looking as I was. Series of splutters ensued and he disappeared, then he came back with two mugs of strong tea and a sheepish look. It turned out he was my new Level 4 manager.
All went well thereafter, and we parted on Christian name terms !

We stayed at Lark Valley CL. They have 6 Hardstanding pitches, only wide enough for the unit but better than putting the caravan on grass at the moment. Nice big area of grass pitches for when its dry. About 5 minutes to the Lakes. You could walk it but it's a busy road without a path. Main downside is poor wifi, most times non existent.
Moved on today and still stalking Millie. After pitching up on a CL we drove to Houghton Mill and walked to St.Ives. Quite a few caravans on the NT site. Managed a coffee and cake at Toms Cakes in St.Ives.๐

Have you driven over the Banchory/Fettercairn road and carried on down towards the coast before? The views are good if a good day, and there is a nice restaurant on the coast side on the way down, though when we were there in March it had not opened for the year yet, which was disappointing as last time we were there the soup and sandwiches were very good.
Otherwise, as NTS members, we have visited the various castles and gardens in the area, and always take a run up to Ballater where there are lots of nice lunch places. Braemar and the Linn of Dee are worth a look too.
In Aberdeen itself we enjoy a walk round the Duthie Park, the big glass houses are interesting too. Johnston Gardens are also attractive, quite a lot of Japanese influence.
I take it you will have tried the fish and chips from the place near the site?

No millie, we didn't. We drove down to Runswick Bay and didn't stop for long then parked at the top of Port Mulgrave and had a walk along the coastal path towards Staithes. Then drove to Staithes to use the loos and onto the free car park above Cowbar before walking down to Staithes harbour and out onto the breakwater, had a wander round the village and then back up.
Today we went to Ravenscar and walked the Cinder Trail to just before Hayburn Wyke and back along the Cleveland Way/Coastal Path. It was a beautiful sunny day with a light breeze.

Glad you both had a good night, I would have gone myself had we been at home Goldie. There have been a few good concerts on there recently but I've managed to miss them all, unfortunately, but being away in the caravan comes first as we both enjoy that and OH is not a great Folk fan. I'm just listing to a mix on Spotify of Bellowhead, Mawkin : Causley, John Kirkpatrick etc

Great photo, H&T, not seen him yet, but there's still time as we are here till Sunday. Might walk down to Falling Foss tomorrow weather permitting.

Eldest grand-daughter and I went to see the Downton film this afternoon. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did ๐. We are off to N. Ireland tomorrow morning.

Thanks, we have done the various NTS castles/gardens and houses around Banchory and Aberdeen. We also visited Dunnottar Castle a few years ago, we cycled there from the site at Stonehaven.
Braemar we also know quite well. Not sure about the Linn of Dee though, is that near Mar Lodge, if so then I think I went to it with work one time but not sure if OH has been.
Duthie park is a favourite of ours I like the glass houses haven't been for a few years so may well go there. Don't know Johnston Gardens so will look at where that is.
Went to Downton, it was good don't think it had as much drama as the series though. OH criticised the 'Military' parade of course, Kings Troop hadn't been founded then, and they certainly didn't have 'female' troopers
MillieH, have a good trip to NI

We didn't realise until we got here that next weekend is the Goths Weekend
When you've finished looking at the Weirdos you can always leave the Club Site and go into Whitby to look at some more.
Hope you enjoy yourselves in spite of your colds. Get well soon Nellie.
A morning out this morning just getting some exercise before the expected rain this afternoon which has duly arrived.

Decided, as it was raining and misty to go to Stourhead to see a few Autumn sights thinking not many would make a similar effort. Of course great minds think alike and it was very busy!
However I don't know where they all went as it was fairly quiet on the circular walk which takes about an hour. Primed by coffee and scones we enjoyed the walk. Have to say the CL looks a lot better at Stourhead, the hedging has grown round it and there were three vans on it today, very easy access to everything.

First real Autumnal day in West Norfolk ,misty damp start ,and now quite heavy rain for last couple of hours with no sign of it passing over, so a day in (first this tour
) tomorrows forecast is not good either
Ps anyone visiting Sandringham park from Feb 2020 parking will be controlled by number plate recognition cameras at ยฃ3 per visit up to hrs ยฃ7 for the day

I took the photo of the Coot because it was making loud clicking noises at the Mallard, along the lines of "would you mind moving away from my patch." I haven't heard a Coot making such a loud noise before although I've heard them "click" when watching their young.

We were walking passed a small lake in Germany last year and saw a Coot flying straight at a Mallard. The Coots partner was sitting on eggs in one part and there were 5 ducks in the other half. The male Coot cleared the lot of them out of his domain as there wasn't a single one left when we walked back. Very feisty are Coots. Can't taste too good either as you never see them on any menus do you?
Nice photos Brue.

Dull here in MK first thing but then pouring as we left Waitrose after our weekly shop.
Went to see Giovanni this today, no not the one off Strictly Come Dancing but a physiotherapist ( he hails from Modena in Italy) at the MK Hand Therapy Department at MK Hospital. Impressed that I only saw my doctor on Tuesday, picked up the letter from the surgery today and was seen this afternoon. Technically it's a walk in service but only by referral. His view was I have something called trigger finger (which someone mentioned up thread) in my thumb and Osteoarthritis more generally in my fingers which is really no surprise! I have been given splints to wear when the hands are painful and a strange plastic thing, which looks like something out of a Christmas Cracker, which is a splint I wear at night to stop the thumb bending. I go back in about ten days time to check progress, fingers crossed or maybe not as the case may be!!!

Thanks, WN, I'm feeling a bit better but OH is still suffering from the dreaded lurgy!!
The day started off grey but dry. We had a walk up on the moors above Grosmont before heading down to Goathland. Walked down through the village to the Station and then the rain started, an hour earlier than forecast! Trains were running late so we didn't hang around to see one. Headed back to the van and remained there the rest of the afternoon, with the rain finally stopping about 4:00. Hope tomorrow is better for our trip into Whitby, and that we are far enough north to miss most of the rain's that's coming over the next couple of days.
Love the photos, brue. Glad that you made it there today.

Nice dry and sunny day again today, its getting colder though folks, snow forecast for the high ground tonight and tomorrow.
We had a lovely drive up to Stonehaven, arrived at 4mins passed 12 noon to find 2 caravans already checking in.
There is a sign as you queue asking for the driver to stay in the vehicle until its at the front of the queue, why do some folk think it ok to ignore. Warden had to ask 1 of them to go back to their van so he could move it forward, then it turns out both of them were travelling together and arrived a day earlier than booked, very lucky that today there was sufficient spaces as the site is full for the weekend.
Had a nice walk along the front with the sea crashing on the shore. Lots of work going on along parts of the front for flood prevention, work also going on near the harbour and 3 lots of roadworks in the town.
New Years Eve is a big night in Stonehaven as the have the Fireball parade, thousands turn up for it. Not sure that the work will be finished by then.
Off to the show in Aberdeen tomorrow.

Got back to Surgery this morning to book 'bloods' & 'Diabetes Clinic'
Woohoo, Appointment with Aunty Vlad for 9:50 tomorrow, Friday. Alas there are NO CLINICS available at all presently, 'cos it's the FLEW Season' & all members of the Nursing staff are being run off their little feet !!Still I got a good long natter with the owner of the close-by garage who does the van's servicing. Even wasted time can be advantageous it seems
P.s. / Edit Attn David K -- Got my copy of M.M.M. today -- think I'll be curled up in a corner reading this w/end excepting only the time spent watching some distant far away rugby games !!

Shopping this morning, Tesco so we could get some Christmas wine on the 25% offer.๐ Then as it was raining all afternoon, spent some time planning next Mays tour. This involved joining the C&CC, and I thought this web site was slow.๐
Eventually joined on the digital only membership and then tried to book a site, only to find It wouldn't give me the over 60's discount. I then found a page on the web site that said I had to get my card authenticated (once I received it) at a site by producing photo ID and it would then let me have the discount in future. This seemed ridiculous, and I was about to ring up, but tried one more time. This time the over 60's option was available and I made the booking. I assume we will have to show proof of age when we arrive.
The overall pricing structure is a complete mystery to me. However, the final price is what's important. Haltwhistle worked out at ยฃ19.15 (a night) in June, for a hardstanding pitch with electric. Which seemed very reasonable.
Flu jabs tomorrow.๐

Yes, show your bus passes or driving licences first time you use one of their sites, they will put stickers on your cards then when your next cards arrive they will have it printed on them.
The discount does make the prices very reasonable, plus peak seasons are shorter.

Important day today, Balaclava day. Have had a glass of Cherry Brandy, stood to attention whilst playing the regimental slow march 'Coburg'. It is also 50 years today since my regiment the 11 Hussars amalgamated with the 10 Hussars to become The Royal Hussars.

Paid my booked visit to the Blood-letting Clinic this morning - due in at 09:50 but got there early to a total lack of traffic { Did they know I was around I wonder
).
Hardly got myself comfortable when I was called in, Bled and turfed out again with a parting Happy New Year, see you in April from Aunty Vlad !! Blimey I was back home just before my appointment was due
. Had a nice hot cup of instant coffee and started practicing for next week -- dozed off for an hour and coffee went a shade cooler than I actually prefer

Hope everybody, away, at home or somewhere between the two, is warm dry and enjoying themselves
WHOOPPEE !! The Club Magazine just popped thro' my letter box so I'm off for a read & lunch Bieee

Give an armful for me please.
I used to hate giving blood. I have always had a phobia about needles. I gave blood though as did my wife. The one upside of having an orchidectomy and radiotherapy was that they could no longer accept my blood. Yep, I know 'what a wuss'
