We are relaxing after a hectic weekend. My brother was here from New Zealand so we hosted a family party on Saturday night which was great everyone enjoyed it but we were catering for almost 30 people so were busy most of the night then had a big clear up operation yesterday morning. It was great to see him again it’s been almost 4 years hoping it won’t be the same time again before we see him, he is on his way back now so we are just relaxing I’m reading the latest edition of Practical Caravan with a nice cold well deserved beer while SWMBO is watching the Tv. Planning on going away in the van at the end of the week just local but will be good to get away and relax.

Dry so far today, breezy and cold.
OH out this morning getting the Toyota tyres swapped around. Then up to the Crematorium to organise adding Mum's details to the memorial stone we have for Dad.
I tackled my ironing and gave the kitchen a good clean with bleach. OH home now and doing his ironing now we've had lunch.
Need to sort out some clothes and food to go in the caravan for our weekend away. Might get a walk in this afternoon if it stays fair.

NYM is a nice site Nellie. Whitby will indeed be heaving for Goth Week. It’s worth a visit in though to see the costumes etc.....😁

An afternoon outing to Newmarket so sitting in Waitrose CP😀.
Lovely morning spent at Lackford Lakes, Kingfisher watching. Only 5 minutes from site.
Mrs WN happy as we found some left handed Calligraphy pens in Newmarket.
I remember when we ended up in Lincoln on Steam Punk day. Yikes! Have you got any Goth shorts and boots Nellie?
Off tomorrow again.

Good run home from Kendal today, almost exactly 3 hours with no hold ups.
House was freezing so all heating now running, it will take a while to warm up properly.
Emptied fridge so we had some food for a late lunch, with a mug of tea to warm us up.
Sun has come out so OH is agitating for the washing bag to be brought in so she can make a start.
Car needs to be emptied too so we can put Callum's seat back in, we resume looking after him tomorrow.
Flu vaccinations on Saturday am.

Had to book an appointment at the doctor's today and actually got one with my own doctor! I have had a problem with my left thumb which is very stiff and painful and the joint clicks but at other times very difficult to actually bend. Apparently it's an age thing!!! I have been referred to to the Hand Therapy Clinic at MK Hospital. A letter of introduction is in preparation for me and apparently its a walk in service so we will see how we get on.

Join the painful thumb club David! Hope you get some useful help.
I'm off for flu and shingles jabs today, thought I'd have a few days grace but no, an unusually fast appointment came up.
Another dry day here, the autumn colours are looking good. A trip to Stourhead beckons, half term is next week in this area so might get in before the crowds appear.

Weather wise huge change from yesterday. Bright and sunny now been dry all day. Gardener and I had another good session in the garden. Just a few pottering jobs to amuse myself and gardens ready for winter. Very tired and achy.
KjellNN did you not leave the heating on? Hope you're cosy now.
Brue both injections at the same time 😲 hope you don't have a reaction. Lucky you to be close enough to pop to Stour head. Leaves here dropping seems very early this year. Not had enough sun to say how the colours are 😢.
Wherenext glad you're enjoying the east!
Milliehull have a great time with the family.
Off to do dinner now.

I hope I don't have a reaction too Bakers2, but these two jabs can be had separately, one in each arm. I was chatting to a friend who was in nursing and she'd had two jabs of another sort, we've both been ill recently so I decided to go for it knowing she'd survived!

I had one in each arm and the shingles arm is still discoloured 10 days later. The swelling and pain went after about 5 days. Apparently it’s not unusual.😕

For a number of reason we had to return home a day early. Fortunately the weather was good to pack up. The traffic light so made good time to get home. Looking forward to next trip hopefully in a couple of weeks.
Lackford Lakes is one of my favourite wildlife sites. Where are you staying WN?
Hope the arms aren’t too painful Brue

Leave heating on??!!! It was September when we left, only been away just over 3 weeks, and it has not really been very cold. If it had been November/December we would have left it to come on at low for a few hours. We have not had much in the way of heating on since the end of May.
The living rooms are south facing so if there is any sun they soon warm up, but today was overcast. Actually I think it was more that we got chilled unloading stuff from the van and car, and had not eaten since 08.30. Once we had some food and a hot drink, and the house was warming up, we soon felt cosy.
Spoke to Callum on FaceTime, he has really taken to his Mum's old Duplo bricks, which we dug out of the loft before we went away, the set that makes a house layout with all the furniture and family members, he has gran and pappa relaxing on the sofa!
DD had some good news, she has been promoted at work and given a very nice 15% pay rise, that will come in very handy as they have all the work on the house to pay for, plus she will need to replace her car within the next 18 months.

Mine reacted really quickly. If you're OK so far, you may stay that way. 💉👍🏻

I hope you are OK after your flu and shingles jabs brue. I felt a bit 'under the weather' for a few days after my shingles jab but worth it to know I hopefully wont get shingles again.
Lovely weather here today so OH really enjoyed his gardening duties at the Cathedral this morning. Pleased to know your garden is nearly ready for winter Bakers2..I am working hard on my Cathedral guiding course. I wish I had a better memory! We had a good night out last night. Our theatre, which has had mixed fortunes, has just re-opened under new management. We went to see Martin Shaw in Gaslight. Excellent and gripping play. I love Martin Shaw 😊

Sorry to read about this David. Hope you get some support from the clinic. Carol had so much pain in her 4th finger, they referred her to the Royal Orthopaedic in Brirmingham. She eventually had the finger fused. I think there is a small bone that can be taken out at the bottom joint of the thumb which doesn't make much difference to movement? I could be wrong but I'm sure they will tell ou about it at the clinic. Do let me know how you are doing.

David, I too suffer from aching fingers and thumbs...the result of playing rugby I'm sure,,,but they're never that painful to go to the doctors. Hope that they can help you at the clinic. I doubt that we'd have one at our local hospital.
Hope that all that are getting their flu and associated injections don't suffer any after effects. We'll be getting ours eventually when we get home.
Shame that you had to cut short your stay, OP, we know a little of how you must feel. Fingers crossed at all's well with you and that you're able to get out again soon.
Fine but cool day on the N.York coast. Had a drive out to Runswick Bay, Port Mulgrave and Staithes. Had a couple of short walks but, as we are both suffering from colds at the moment we didn't feel like walking great distances. Restocked at Lidl on our way back to the site, which is quiet at the moment.

Thanks for the comments about the thumb. As we get older I suppose most of us get pains in joints to a greater or lesser extent. I think what concerned me was it was clicking and getting very stiff I was concerned that it could bend and get stuck!!! When you think about it you don't tend to bend the thumb that much until you discover you can't. It affects stupid things like releasing the handbrake on the car and the gear stick release button (automatic gearbox) At least the handbrake on the motorhome is the other side!

In my case mine are sometimes bad. Strangely my left hand seems the worst .... I say strangely because I am right handed. It did cause a problem last year when towing. We had towed about 80 miles when the jockey wheel came unclamped? Fortunately we were a few hundred yards for a factory with a lorry turning are in front and pulled in there to sort. I realised that I usually stood on the offside of the car and leaned over to clamp the jockey up. That meant using my thumb more and not being able to apply as much pressure; I now walk round to the nearside.
Occasionally they seem to have a flare up and on one such occasion we were on C&CC site at St Neotts. I noticed that one of the brackets that the side dinette table hooks onto was loose and so I called into tow, got a small tube of wood glue and some matches to pack the screw holes and reafix. Decided to do both brackets and removed screws and repacked with a couple of pieces of matchsticks in each. With no pre drilled hole my hands were not strong enough to rescrew. I had to get a pair of molegrips out of the tool box to use as a T bar

You visited 3 of our favourite places there nellie. Did you walk down and up again to all three? It must have given your knees and lungs a good work out!

Well, I’ve been looking forward to retirement which is due in the next couple of years (I’ve not set a firm date yet) but after occasionally looking at this thread for the last few weeks I’m not so sure now.
Peoples time seems to be filled with hospital and doctors appointments, visits to clinics and practice nurses, not to mention continual aches and pains.
Think I might put retirement off as I very rarely visit a doctor and I am still healthy and reasonable fit. Only joking.

Sincerely hope everybody is feeling well and stays that way especially through the coming winter.

I don't know if you remember, or even if I mentioned it, but after I had my knee op last October, a few days after I had numbness in both my hands, (4th & 5th fingers). This, I put down to Ulnar nerve damage, which may well have been caused by falling to sleep in a hard-armed chair in hospital, and leaning heavily on the arms. All the medics seem to agree. There's little that can be done. There,'s no major loss of muscular function so a surgeon is unlikely to touch it. Gradually, over the last twelve months, it has improved a lot, of its own accord, but it is still there. In addition to the size of my hands (caused by acromegaly) and arthritis in my thumbs, I sometimes feel that I'm falling apart, but oddly enough, I'm still managing to play piano and organ without too much trouble. I sometimes wonder whether lifetime of playing musical instruments has helped keep my hands better than they otherwise would have been.
I do like driving the automatic car though. Once I have started driving, I don't need to touch the gear change - other than if I want to go backwards...... and on the Discovery my handbrake is electronic, and therefore just requires touching a small lever.
Perhaps the hand clinic will be able to give you assurance about your hands, David. Hope they will be able to help. Perhaps they will offer pain relief or suggest some exercises to help. Hope the appointment will come through soon. It's a bit of a devil, all this growing older. You always feel much younger in your mind, but then start to realise that the body just can't do the things it used to - it just gets very frustrating.

I occasionally have trouble with tightening the jockey wheel too. Don't ask me why, but I also lean across and tightened it from the offside. It may be because when I get out of the drivers seat I am always on that side, so just walk to the back of the car. Perhaps I need to try the opposite side?

Retired people do tend to get their value out of the NHS
When you are working I suspect there is a tendency to put off going to a doctor where as I suppose retired people have more time to sort things out. It reminds me of a colleague who used to have a pretty high pressure job. He is now retired and was telling me that he had, had prostate cancer but he had,had treatment and was now fine. The chilling thing he said though was that had he still been at work he would have probably ignored the symptoms and would have probably been dead by now!David

Just having a quick catch up, had to get the laptop out so having a quick look in.
Nellie, we also stayed at the NYM site, we really like it there,we like the walk down to Falling Foss from the site which after all the rain was flowing well, did drive past the Monks Farm site when we went to get some of the Delicious Ice Cream from Beacon Farm. Look out on site for the little chap in the photo, he wanders round the site, we saw him having a rest round the caravan.

The day started out very foggy, but its sunny now so all the rest of the holiday washing is out on the line.
Sorry to read about everyone's aches and pains hope all feel better soon.

Hope you get your joint problem sorted soon David. What you described with the clicking and sticking is the same as my OH had with his 4th finger and it did occasionally get stuck downwards. The Doctor diagnosed it as ‘trigger finger’ and tried a steroid injection and it seems to have helped a lot (he has had one twice now) but, of course, it maybe different with a thumb joint.
