Got a brand new car today.
Had to as the old one was so filthy after all of this rain that we were embarrassed to be seen in it. Now recognise it as being White in colour.
Caravan is fine. Ticks all of the boxes up to now for us. Getting used to having a bit more room!

A lovely Autumnal day. Sunny with a bit of of a bite to the breeze. We left the car next to the van and walked from the CL to Snape Maltings along the Alde estuary. Plenty of bird activity to keep us happy.
On the way back we called off at Iken Church, St.Botolph. They have a part of a Cross dating from around C900.
Off on our slow way home tomorrow. A couple more short stops.

I now also now know that this car has no dipstick, the computer checks the oil level!
How long have you had the car and not checked levels?
I don't check mine either. I do about 7,000 a year and probably checked twice in 14 years

Lovely sunny day here which made our trip to Whimpole Hall all the more enjoyable. As well as walking about 5 miles in the grounds and garden, went into the house and visited the heavy horses. Some big boys there at least 19 hands. Some of the stable lasses were washing the feathers on some of them. Popped into Royston for some food shopping before returning to site.
Was going to visit an uncle in Saffron Walden tomorrow only to find out he had died last November. I find it unbelievable that in the age of instant communication it took me nearly a year to find out.

Sunny morning then showery day at Wallington Hall.
These two had been there a while waiting for news of Brexit.
Or was it a skeleton staff on duty?

Yay! a dry day (well almost)
Got a few jobs done in the house this morning then after lunch OH decided that he'd had enough and was getting 'cabin fever'
So we jumped in the car and headed for Pitlochry.
Haven't been there for awhile, decided to take the back road up to Dunkeld from our village. Then joined the A9, the stretch from just north of Perth up to Bankfoot is under massive roadworks so gave it a swerve.
Lovely drive through the hills and into Pitlochry which was busy even for this time of the year. Walked up the main street and to the Dam then back down the other side where one of us bought a new jumper
while the other one didn't.
On the way back we decided to go over the hills to Blairgowrie rather than back the A9 route. First time either of us has been that way, OH has only lived here 68 years and me a mere 53 years. Lovely drive through hills and wild moors, snow poles out at the side of the road on the tops, won't be long before they are needed. Surprising how many house we saw very remote but they look to be 'real' homes not holiday homes.
Both feeling much better for getting out, it started to rain as we came into our village
WN, glad the new caravan is proving a good buy.
JVB66,' beef fat' really
I can here your arteries crying from here.

They look like I feel. Wednesday last week I drove 40 miles to Youngest daughter in Leigh with my eldest who came up about 1pm. Put kids seats in back of X-Trail and picked two grandsons up from school. They new nothing about it so a nice surprise. It was eldest grandsons's eight birthday on the next day and presents duly left. He always likes the Harvester and so we went there for a meal. We found a table out of the way as his 7 year old brother is autistic and can kick off but was pretty well behaved,
Thursday I had a burning at the top of the nose and rheumy eyes around mid day ...... was it man flu? By 4.30 I knew that it was and rescheduled my Monday dental check up.
Friday I made evening meal of bacon, potato and cheese and went to bed shortly after. 12 hours sleep.
Today back to bed around 1pm for two hours sleep. Cooked a nice large salmon fillet for OH with asparagus, new pots and long stem broccoli. I had a tat and bed is calling!

Glad you managed to get out TG, such a lovely area to explore, I have to get a fix of it every now and then.
Hope you'll be better soon EasyT.
My week has been mainly at home...mostly on whippet duty, a large bouncy seven month old whippet who has a big bag of toys that get flung in all directions on a regular basis. I am hoping the bag will get packed tomorrow when our son arrives to take him home. I don't know how "older" people have the energy for very young dogs, I certainly haven't...
I am looking forward to seeing the outside world once more!

A dry start to the day, so after doing the laundry we drove over to the Derwent Reservoir, parking by the dam and walked to Pow Hill Country Park and back. Then onto Blanchland to view the estate village and the Abbey. It started to rain just as we arrived so that put pay to a walk along the river after wandering round the village. Raining at the van when we got back so I was able to watch the England match on catchup.
Have a safe two tomorrow all that are on the move.

It is many years since we had a car that ever needed the oil topped up, so many I cannot remember! Must be since at least 1994.
We do not drive as far these days, service intervals are 18000 miles on this car, and we too have only done about 21000 in 3 years.
Seems that these days you just have to wait till the car tells you it needs something!

Mixed weather today, a bit grey in the morning and some rain late afternoon, but now dry.
Went over to Windermere for a wander around the Lakeland store, where we got a couple of Christmas presents, then next door to Booths to buy lunch.
Took a short trip up beyond Ambleside, which was busy as always.
Tomorrow we are heading west along the coast, and on the way will drop into the local Aldi to hopefully secure a saw I have my eye on.

I grew up with them being cooked that way. Last time I had them cooked in beef fat was in Thirsk about 5 years ago. Neither of us could finish them as they were just to greasy for our taste nowadays.
Much prefer them nowadays done in breadcrumbs and chips that are not deep fried.

Tend to agree. Our local chippy uses sunflower oil, much nicer. We had fish and chips from the mobile shop at Barnard Castle and I am pretty sure they were cooked in beef dripping and they made me feel quite ill.

Got back home from Cumbria, yesterday afternoon and had a fairly uneventful (dry) trip back - certainly better than the horrendous weather we experienced on the way there! Before we left, we had a visit from the Service Manager and Senior Tech at ALV who came to inspect the damage caused by the air rifle pellet. It looks as if it's going to cost about £1500 and take a week to put it right. Being an aluminium clad van, the dent has to be filled and then most of the side, resprayed. Not a happy womble and spent a couple of hours, yesterday afternoon, preparing the insurance claim. - something I could have done without!

It does - but it's more or less what I expected. I'm told that modern water-based paints can't be blended in and therefore virtually the whole of the side of the van will have to be re-sprayed - involving removing windows etc. To start with, I thought it was just a huge silver decal - but no - it's painted.
I will get a precise quote when the body shop manager returns from holiday, later this week, but I don't expect it will be much less.
Some people may well have just lived with it, but it's a new (expensive) van, and I don't see why I should have to - especially as I was in no way to blame for the cause.

Our car (white) had a dent on the rear nearside panel near the rear door ,and was sorted by one of the dent repair companies at our home,it took over four hours but they did not need to respray a large area of the car to match the water based paint, it is a very scientific method of matching the colour which involves some digital scales, and white paint involves some black paint
Ps it is only the last coat of special lacquer that stops the water based pain from deterioration

I do tend to lift the bonnet on any car we have had but it is to check the screen wash ,after being caught out years back when it ran out during a journey in really poor weather, so the dipstick for engine oil gets a check at the same time

I had some damage on the nearside of my last caravan that need filling and spraying. I was quoted £250 but was unable to get it done at the time of the service when I had the quote as the chap that did such work wa on holiday. I never did get it done as we traded the caravan in with the same dealership. When I made the phone call to get a price and place an order I told them that the caravan was in excellent condition except for a scrape dent and, as they had quoted me £250 for the repair, they could knock £200 off the trade in value (No VAT).
That is why I was surprised at the cost. A san aside I have no idea how or when I sustained the damage
