Or there will be at certain times of the year, once they appoint an operator. All you can do currently is express an interest to stay, no firm bookings are possible. They must be loosing a lot of money as the one in Clipstone Forest that the C&CC administered was closed Christmas and new year, last year it was rammed. Sorry Off topic.

I've just found a commercial site  (mainly statics but with a tourer area ) with swimming pool, cafe , just yards from beach , over coronation weekend, with electric,  5 nights for £95.

There is of course a 'but'. Deposit £50 and balance 6 weeks before arrival..

Thanks for the explanation,at least this explains why I did not get the same results with Winchester Morn Hill.

You just wonder how the new website is showing a price for a grass pitch when technically it is not available for the dates I requested.

    Thanks Brue

It was Roundhill actually, that would be  my preferred choice, but when you go onto their web site it states something like "waiting for a new operator to be announced for these sites". Cannot remember exact words!

I wonder if they have realised that it is a Bank Holiday on the Monday? Seems good value but without knowing the site its difficult to make a comparison. Your other point about a deposit and paying six weeks before you arrive does actual show the new Club system in a good light. It's the one thing I don't like about commercial sites is this insistence that you have to pay in full so far in advance, perfectly happy with a reasonable deposit but had my fingers burnt last year.

I've just booked it. They do offer cancellation insurance at £15 (for bookings up to £100 ). Its part of Hoburne Holidays,  I don't usually use this sort of site but with steam railway locally to nearby Minehead, thought I'd give it a go.

The thing I do not like about the new website system is that it gives no indication of the price per night of a CL.  It used to, so why can that not be included in the new system?

If it's the Blue Anchor site there are also THS events next door, we enjoyed a stay last year. I think it was £12 a night and they provided some facilities too as it's also a nice farm site alongside the Smugglers Inn plus a CS/CL (can't remember which? )

    Sorry another diversion. wink

    From this years THS diary.

I found the website for the above mentioned site a bit tricky to use. We might be in that are and I wanted to check it out.

It is the Blue Anchor site. I found the THS location  next door but nothing on the dates we wanted otherwise we would definitely have used it.

Just trying to be helpful here but I guess you're aware that you're talking to an open public forum not H/O? There's a link to a survey on here somewhere to give your thoughts to EGH, or alternatively send an email to enquiries@camc.com and title it "new booking system" where you may get a personal response.

It's a pleasant site, hope you enjoy your stay, nice sea front cafe on the walk to the station and good sunsets over the prom.!

Here's the feedback link JK mentioned for anyone who wants to contact CAMC over problems with the new booking system. (It can also be found in the New Booking Experience area.)

Yes that word "reinstated," at this rate the whole system will revert back! wink At least LA in it's familiar and useful list form is on the return list.

Just looking again at the new booking system - and what a shambles. I want to search for availability in the Midlands for when our new caravan arrives in early feb. i can't find how to book by region - it seems i need to put in a site. and the layout is appalling - obviously designed by a designer and not a practical ordinary member looking to see what is available.

This club site had advantages over the Camping and Caravan Club site by being able to focus in on areas and non-specific dates - now totally gone. the C&C club is a simple joy to use compared to this. i have seen Rowena's comments that the club is 'trying hard' to resolve issues - since i first saw this in September I have seen no improvement when making a general search for availability. . It can't just be me who feels so frustrated. ( for balance - I had no problems at all booking Garlieston for specific dates!)

I can't believe there are no comments on this since sept 2022! I posted the reply below (as I thought) but it got linked to some other reply and did not show here. so here it is again (possibly!)

They might be hoping a few ex members reinstate as well🤣 Poof, how to trash your reputation. It would all make a superb training exercise, especially with John Cleese fronting it🤣

Peakman you can certainly search by counties, or even more specific locations. Just not by Peak District, Cotswolds etc.  For say Devon, select location rather than campsite and type in Devon. Select Devon UK from the top of the list that appears and press search. You will get a map of  the south west of the country including Devon. You can then zoom in to the area of interest and the sites in view will appear in the list on the left hand side.

It actually works better if you are more specific. Type in Exeter, select Exeter UK and you get a map of the area around Exeter showing the racecourse site and Stover. You can then zoom out if you want to look further afield.

As to non specific dates, it is totally possible. Don’t put any in and you can just scroll through the Calendar for your desired pitch type.

"I can't believe there are no comments on this since Sept 2022!"

The thread was started in Sept 2022 and there have been posts on almost a daily basis ever since amounting to 289 pages. Perhaps you only looked at page 1 🤷🏻‍♂️

Your two posts appear above which (although sometimes posts take 2-3 minutes to show) also suggests to me that you may not have moved to the latest page.

I'm guessing that peakman meant that there had been no further comments from the Community Manager or other Powers that be since Sept 2022

The phone app is terrible, it just crashes and trying to move round the map and then wait 5 mins for the sites to decide should they load in or not is so frustrating, i've just spent the winter using the other club and independent sites, what a sorry state
