I know we have been used to that information for years now and the website used to give a breakdown of the separate costs. However is it actually meaningful to have that information listed separately? The reason I say that is if you always go away as either a single person, a couple or a couple with children and any other combination surely the only cost you are interested in is the total price per night? The minimum fee is always going to be pitch plus one. You could find that information by playing around with the numbers in the party. I am not altogether sure what the benefit would be to have that information listed elsewhere?

I think the only way to make your comments to the club on these things is to use the new booking system feedback area. I suspect the club are trying to avoid even more clutter on their over busy screen set ups!

    Here's the feedback link

If you do the sums that's about 3.5 nights per person....I wonder how many have booked longer holidays or have they booked weekends with smaller deposits?! Looking at Trust Pilot it's a daily grind of complaints and the club rating has gone down from 5* to 3.4* It's a pity the actual site reviews on TP are nameless, they are meaningless to anyone looking for individual site recommendations.

The real sum for the club  is 250,000 times whatever the deposits rate would have been. A nice little earner for the club, it can't keep it of course but will either help cash flow or some bank interest?

My average booking deposit is about about £40+ for a very long weekend stay which is our usual now.

The Club’s booking system for overseas sites, is exactly the same as the booking system for UK sites - but is attracting no comments and no complaints in the Overseas Touring section on here. It is never mentioned there.

It seems that those who go overseas are using the site booking system without any fuss, but those who book in the UK have been complaining endlessly - as they regularly do about any change.

    Different people, different attitudes?

Personally I prefer how the system shows it now. Select pitch type, number of adults / children and you get a price per night on the calendar. Previously you had to add together the various elements, also of course allowing for seasonal price changes during your stay. Nothing is hidden, it is easy enough to work out the cost of an adult or a child. As far as pitch price is concerned, you can’t have one without an adult and that default price is shown. Once you have a booking, if it’s of interest, the break down of pitch cost and adults / children is shown in my bookings. Together with deposit paid and balance remaining.

I personally find the new booking site useless how do you scroll up and down when you search for availability at a site unless i am doing something wrong it is not fir for purpose !

I did post a few months ago about how I thought the new system was cumbersome to use over the last one (and certainly the way it was introduced was and still is awful) but I 'like' it and it now appears for me easy to use, perhaps just practice was needed. I can do a booking fairly quickly, I like how you can select the options you like and see the prices build up. Searches and filters work well once you use the a few times.

Likewise as Steve, when it's booked you can have all the breakdown you want.

This morning I have done a multiple site booking and a single site booking with no problems at all , the only thing was that I found the page to page progression was a bit slow , but didn’t affect the overall process

CAMC say they are going to re-introduce the late availability list which I think will please most people, the CL search list has already been re-introduced which has also helped many. I can't remember the time scale for other improvements but the old booking system was very simple to use and I think simplicity is the key to improvements. Looking at TP concerns it could be that some of the problems encountered are still device specific eg not being able to enter birth dates (which the club are now saying they are re-thinking.)

Might depend on device, but on my iPad and iphone, you don’t scroll up / down. I  touch on the left and right arrows on the top of the calendar to move through availability.

You obviously think that the people booking overseas sites are intellectually superior to those minions booking UK sites or could it be that the system was designed for overseas bookings and the new system was bolted onto it. You know that is correct and that the vast majority of members who encounter the new system find it a poor replacement for its predecessor.

I have already made a couple of bookings on the new web site, but tonight I looked at Black Knowl for the period 13th to 17th April.

The price bands for the pitches it came up with the following

    Hard standing with EHU £39.50

Non Electric economy pitch no Awning £40.70

    Service Pitch with Awning £44.40

Grass with Awning with EHU £48.90

To me something just doesn't look right, why is a Grass pitch so much more, than a hard standing and why is a Non economy pitch more than a hardstanding pitch.

I did quickly look at Winchester Morn Hill site and the price structure of the pitches there, looks correct in relation to the increase in facilities.

Computer says, the grass pitches are not open for the period you refer to but at the end of April, mid week, a hard standing pitch with EHU is £45.20, week end £49.90 for 2 adults.

The prices for the various pitches are the lowest they are at during April. As HS and service pitches are available all month, lower prices are shown than for grass, as these don’t become available until the 28th which is in a higher price band.

It seems that one cannot rely on the CAMC booking system to even give you the correct price for a pitch, quite apart from the exorbitant price they seem to require now.

However, it does show you the correct price on the calendar. The prices on the pitch types are the from prices for the month in view and grass pitches are not available for the cheaper part of the month, probably because they could be a bit wet. Oh you forgot to add in your opinion after exorbitant price. Clearly a lot of folk don’t agree judging by the non available dates and number of lows for the  HS pitches. The same is true for the dearer serviced pitches.

Clearly we and they do. Although in France where we are free to reject a site / Aire and move on, as there is so much availability, we holiday differently. Here that isn’t so easy and bookings are desirable. We like CAMC sites and will use them in preference to others, many of which are just as expensive and have much worse terms and conditions. The one difference the CAMC’s introduction of deposits has made is we are now booking more C&CC sites due to their age related discount. Where as previously we would have gone for the more expensive option because of the flexibility. In all cases of course the sites need to be in the right place, but now when looking at a location our preference is C&CC, CAMC then another.

As it's Easter holiday time prices will be higher and sites will be busy, especially Black Knowl which is in a central spot for South Coast Holidays.

The only pre booked break we have this year is with C&Cc in Cumbria,  this is so we can get the minimum break available, 5 days. It's now swings and roundabouts with both clubs on main sites. Our other breaks will be CLs, THS etc CAMC visits will be " fill ins."

they have had a different caravanning experience to me.

Of course they have, no one will have the same as you.

Clearly thousand with their own caravanning experience do think it's value for money.

I've been to BK and actually looked for the one economy pitch...on the map at the time it showed it, but it physically didn't exist.

this years plan doesn't show it now even though the clubs list of sites with non EHU pitches still says BK has one/some.

who would pay over £40 for a non electric pitch?

for the 13th for two people im seeing HS £49.90, economy n/a, SP £54.80, grass n/a.

there's obviously something wrong with the base template...which shows these prices

    Hardstanding With AwningWith EHU.
    From £39.50 per night

Non Electric Economy Pitch No Awning Usually a grass pitch.
    From £40.70 per night

    Serviced Pitch With Awning
    From £44.40 per night

    Grass With Awning With EHU.
    From £48.90 per night

Sorry to hear you haven't been well David, at least you will have time to cancel and hopefully get away another time.

I don't think TDA intended any mischief in her comments.

All our bookings will no doubt be made in the hope we can travel.

There nothing wrong with the template YT. It shows the lowest prices for each pitch type for the month in view. Grass / non EHU are not available in the cheaper part of the month.

I don't want to take this off thread but as far as Black Knowl is concerned just over the road is the Camping in the Forest site Aldridge Hill, a much cheaper and relaxed alternative if you can manage without EHU etc. There is choice out there. smile

What's wrong with it YT? It does say From, they are not the prices for one particular date?

Post edit, didn't see Steve's reply which said the same thing.

    +1

If people think the BK price is on the silly scale or exorbitant then don't pay it?
