New Booking System

It isn’t the fault of CAMC that you have a weak Local area network(internet)-that is your responsibility🤷🏻♂️

Yes, I certainly wouldn't be relying on (and paying for) the club network. With a cheap data card, it's easy these days to get your own network which is far more reliable and has just a tiny amount of 'dead spots'.
if a couple both have phones, choosing different networks will give resilience that takes care of most of todays network issues.
folk might be beholden to club sites but they don't have to be reliant on its (not too special) network, especially as the new app appears to be a bit more resource hungry.

Dropping out? Amongst the myriad faults reported about the bookings system, you seem to be the only person with that issue, JV.
2 -
It was not unhelpful, you attack anyone who doesn’t agree with you. There are a lot who’ve mastered the system others who hold everyone but themselves accountable. You need to master it or accept it’s beyond you. The complaining every hour is not helping you🤷🏻♂️

That may be how you see things but without doubt this thread would probably be half the length if PC/Laptop's were still in common use by the majority of members as the majority of the problems are associated with use of the App rather than the system itself. As I have mentioned I think the Club took a misstep by trying to combine network site bookings with a search facility for CL's. Whether they have now realised that it would be better to have separate Apps we have yet to see. I maintain that a successful App will deal with one theme rather than multi, unconnected tasks. There is no doubt that the emergence of both smartphones and and tablets have introduced more people to web based activities who may have otherwise not have purchased a computer. The two types can go hand in hand but in terms of productivity a PC/Laptop will win hands down. No problem with charging, I can do that from the vehicle power supply which won't be necessary as like probably the majority of members I am usually on hook-up.

But only for you which points to it being something to do with you - your connection/network/device.....

JVB when I make a booking on the iPad, it doesn’t put any time restraint up until I go to checkout. Then it says this basket will time out in 29 minutes and counts down from there. If your device is showing less than this, or timing out before the clock reaches zero, it would be worth reporting on the feedback form, with details of your device. There is certainly great variability on how the new booking service looks and works on different platforms, as can be seen in many of the posts in this thread.

That would probably be due to the fact that the majority would have been using a windows based machine. So less devices for it to be tested on. These days there are such a variety of devices and operating systems testing is much more important and the CC have failed miserably in that regard.

You get as far as the basket?
Yes except when it was first released, never had a problem with the first phase. I’ve not checked out that many times yet but the slowest only took about 5 minutes. If your being timed out routinely it would be well worth using the feedback form.
I do think that they seem to have tested it more on Apple devices than Android. There certainly seem to be fewer issues mentioned on CT re iOS devices.

I'm a bit behind in this thread (busy thawing out pipes in the pantry and lighting a fire), and not really planning on booking anything at the moment. But, to show I'm still interested in CT -
We take a laptop, not the smallest (17 inch) but fast with loads of storage. We use it to watch downloaded films etc, and as it's regularly updated to match our desktop, I have all the farm business information available if I need it. I know it can be accessed via th Cloud, but I like it in the here and now.
We've a large caravan so space isn't an issue, so we have a "tech bag" with laptop, 2 iPads, Kindle and chargers.
Sorry - wandered a bit of topic. Back to reality now as my fingers are too cold to type, and it's difficult with gloves on).

Forgive my IT ignorance, not got any of the knowledge many have on here, but I don’t think it is the App I use on my IPad, just the usual website? I do have the App loaded on my phone, but don’t use it.
I know the systems are different, as I can change my avatar photo on the MacBook, but not on my iPad🤷♀️

I'm glad the "basket" time for bookings has increased from 20 mins to 29 mins, anyone making multiple bookings still needs to be nippy. Not much time for browsing. If your access to WiFi is slow this will add to the challenge.
I've never downloaded the CAMC app so can't comment about it.
I tend to use my phone on the move.

BT is EE these days, I think.
if I had to choose the two most reliable I'd go for Vodafone and EE but there is no one answer.🤷🏻♂️

You may be right to a degree but, if the problem had been on laptops would be advocating folk take a desktop in their van or to sit in a site 'info centre with a shared unit' to make a booking?
this is 2022, soon to be 2023, and (sorry to say) the issue rests wholly with CAMC.
They decided to change the system but are obviously way out of touch with how a significant number of its members want to communicate with it.
ps...are there any Chromebook users out there, any info on how this platform/OS works...

The app is available for all phones and tablets, IOS or Android.
on such a device, IMHO it 'ought' to be easier/quicker to tap the app icon than to search for a bookmark on a web browser, hence I have the app on both iPad and iPhone.

I use Chrome Book, so I'm partly making comments about the booking function on there and partly on Android 12. Most of my comments relate to the set up in general not the device used. But I think, obviously the bigger the screen the better the view. There is an awful lot going on regarding details and maps and it functions better visually on a larger screen. Personally I like a map link otherwise small screens in particular are too cluttered.
PS I won't even consider downloading the app unless I hear it is fully functioning. I'm sparing in my use of apps in general.

"I'm sparing in my use of apps in general"
any particular reason other than possibly screen clutter and space requirements?
I think it's certainly fair to keep reviewing the number we have downloaded, bit like 'unused icons on home screen' message on windows.
as more users rely on phones and tablets, i feel it will become more 'attractive' to download an app from a company you do plenty of business with.

I don't like tablets as the letters on the screen are too small, I prefer my laptop, as for not being able to charge when off grid, we have a inverter in our van, so plug laptop dyson in that

but it is the fault of the club that they designed the new web page to only work properly on the latest iPad or new laptop with SSD rather than hdd
2 -
Have you tried enlarging the keyboard or using the tablet in landscape mode?
I used to take a laptop touring back before tablets were invented but I'd not go back to that now. My Pad and phone between them do all that I need for weeks at a time.
3 -
Did they? Other folk seem to be coping without iPads or SSD.

You can easily change the font size on an IPad, not sure about other tablets but guessing similar technology is available. But sometimes things just “feel” better on a laptop.

It doesn’t start ticking until you go to the checkout brue and when I added a second item it started at 42 minutes. So as long as it works correctly time shouldn’t be an issue. I think that’s part of the problem, the system is held together with sticking plaster and you are never sure when something will drop off.

If something is to small on my iPad I can enlarge it in a second simply by moving my fingers apart. As in the example below. Plus although the screens are smaller they are often way better definition than many lap tops.
