New Booking System

Communications on important questions has always been poor. They are good at what I call the "happy-clappy" stuff but not with real substance. It's ironic in a way that it took COVID for the AGM to become a more open occasion where proper questions can be asked and in the main get proper answers. This forum has been going for about 10 years now and I have never seen anyone who would be classed as a senior figure in the Club make a contribution here. I don't imagine for one moment that is about to change? I have no interest in apologies as they are often empty gestures but it would be nice to see concerns of members addressed.

As many of us already do Husky but the point of "membership" goes beyond discounts there are members representing all of us and making decisions on financing projects like the new booking system. Unfortunately CL owners and users (for instance) don't have other options and just this week the club have reintroduced the previous booking system for CLs. But they haven't made a formal announcement on the website. Luckily some of us have heard this on here but that's just a few of us.
I'm not too bothered about club responses on here but on the main web site this is now really lacking..

Following on from my previous posts and after seeing Rowena's post on page 264 with this link for searching for CLs only:
https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/uk-holidays/uk-search-and-book/certificated-locations/
I clicked on it (on my Samsung tablet, Android 12), but still got the new, green, booking system with map alongside. I then thought I'd try it on my phone. I hadn't previously tried it on that, as I prefer to use my tablet for website searching, and also, my phone is nearly 5 years old, and runs on Android 9 (Nokia 5), so I thought that if it doesn't work on my much more recent tablet, it won't work on that. Well, how wrong I was - when I clicked on Rowena's link, it did take me to the original CL search........
I don't understand that it works on a 3 versions older system, but it does. And as I said before, the link DK put on many pages ago, did take me to the original system on this tablet, yet Rowena's link didn't.
Life is full of mysteries

Don't know how others get the "new" booking system to work when doing a general search. I have tried twice to see site in Yorkshire. Last night it produce a list including Hebden Bridge, which I selected and the result after about 2 mins was Cheshire Fairoaks!! Tonight I have just tried again and this time selected a CL to view and the details of a totally different one appeared, after a long delay. As far as I am concerned the system is completely useless. I am using my 2yr old kindle for the search.

It might help if we knew where to get Club news. It seems to appear everywhere but the web site. Surely the Club news page on the web site should be the primary place for all Club announcements on the internet with a banner on the home page! As it is you have to dig pretty deep to even find the Club news page.

I haven't spotted any other Kindle users on the forum, if there are any, are they getting the same issues?
we are all aware that there are discrepancies between the web/app suitability across different platforms but Amazon's Kindle must be one of the rarest used I'd suggest.

I have got Margaret a Kindle Paperwhite for Christmas to replace a very, very old previous version. It's still working but some functionality is being reduced which might impact on being able to download content, hence the the new Kindle. It seems to have an "Amazon" browser which when its set up I will have a play with. I don't think it has the ability to download Apps? So I assume Nellie just has access to the main website on his kindle? Given the recent change by the Club to go back to the original CL web pages that might be an advantage? Main sites maybe not?

I suspect Nellie probably has the Kindle Fire tablet, David.

Choice? I used to use my Kindle for internet browsing before I got an iPad. Worked very well.

Likewise. I now use an android tablet and the kindle app for reading.
When they changed the site, when this thread started, it ate my words as I was using the Kindle..........
No idea on IT, but I'm not alone, some are employed as IT by the club 🤐🤐🤐🤣🤣🤣🤣

I've just tried it on my Amazon Kindle Fire tablet, it's 1 year old.
Worked fine for me, I typed in Yorkshire for location.
Then some dates, hit search and selected Yorkshire UK, which is second on the drop down list.
All sites in Yorkshire with available sites were listed.
Surprised me as its the first time I've used it to do a search.

Not sure about that version of Kindle but my 'Fire' can download apps. I've even managed to get it to accept Google.
I have apps for various things on it, including Camping Car Parks, BBCiplayer, ITVX, chanel4, chanel5, Google playstore, Google play books etc.
Took a bit of doing as you have to do a work around. Amazon block quite a lot of things but if you search on the net you will find lots of info.

I've done a search for CLs which worked fine however when I look at each individual CL I don't see any price for it. All the other details are there but no price, have the club stopped displaying this or is the price somewhere I've not seen. I am logged in.

I think you must be using the new booking system rather than the "Certificated Location Search" which is on the Find a UK campsite drop down menu and takes you to the old CL search function.

Peedee, when I click on your link I get the new booking system, not the old CL search function. That's with my Samsung Android tablet, Android 12. Yet, as I posted a few pages ago, on my nearly 5 year old Nokia 5 phone, which runs on Android 9, the link does indeed take me to the old CL search facility. All totally bizarre

I think it is poor that maybe the Club expect users to have the most up to date devices, as do some posting on here.
My i pad is 5 years old, OH's is now 4 years old, they both seem to work absolutely fine, other than on the CAMC website.
Why would we want to replace them?
Phones.......we get our children's hand me downs, they are not that old, 3-4 years, yet still we have problems on CAMC website.
As pensioners on a pretty much fixed income, we cannot justify spending on the most up to date hardware.
+ 10% come April, on part of my State Pension, is not going to be a lot!

But where does the club draw the line regarding old technology?
There has to be a cut off sometime? Five years? six? ten? Software is 'evolving' all the time and needs better hardware. My first windows computer wouldn't run some or even any of the stuff I have now.
Why would you want to replace them? Well if you want to use the club's software but as you say you don't use club sites what does it matter? But the club isn't expecting you or anyone to have anything it's just if you ant to use their services. Up to you.
Are you saying your main computer or laptop won't run the CAMC website? If it does use that? I can see if one is the type of tourer that is on the move all the time or doesn't like to plan but I get the impression you plan everything at home?
Your increase in the state pension is just irrelevant really as the club can't plan for you or anyone's else increase. So you're other pensions aren't going up btw?

I agree with you there, for anything I like my desktop and more importantly a large screen, actually two screens, and a full size keyboard. I don't like using my phone and only do it when I have to.
I also have to have a mouse, I just can't abide or use the pad things on laptops though everyone else (usually much younger than me) appears to manage.

"Why would we want to replace them?"
You replace them when they no longer perform as required, when the software is no longer supported, when the memory is insufficient, when they will not host the latest apps, when the battery fades away….. There are numerous reasons, Kj.
I don’t think people on here who are successfully making bookings are only using the latest tech gear. I’ve seen people mentioning quite old devices.
Incidentally, did you in Scotland get the extra £300 cost of living payment on top of the £200 winter fuel payment? It all helps👍🏻

Some who post on here may well be successful in making bookings on older than the latest equipment, but older equipment And not fast Internet makes for problems with this clubs system lets hope the next website introduction of Feb? 2023 is a lot more user friendly that this system is
We can only hope it will be like the old system in its ease of use with the additional cancellation period with if really needed by the vocal minority who may well now be regretting what they wanted
