Coronavirus: Stay or go

I will be honest-I have cancelled 2 trips/breaks, prior to having them cancelled-money lost. I care not one jot re money because the potential loss of life is too great a worry. I am honest in that it is my families life & my own that is my main concern not everyone else’s. Yes I realise it’s not a zombie apocalypse but it is unchartered territory, no knee jerk but a carefully calculated thought process. I see way too much wriggle room for authorities in the event of a ‘problem’ ie vehicle breakdown, accident, the need for emergency services & all the other resultant issues.

keep up the posting it is good to get a first hand report of what is happening in other countries, as said my daughter lives in Villa Martin, she is tearing her hair out already, now banned from going into school to do online teaching, tried from home and the internet/microsoft servers are so slow it is proving to be an impossible task, we might find the same in the UK has internet traffic grows.

You are most welcome, Easy, although to be fair, it isn't just my opinion but the Government's.

Simply criticising those who disregard the guidance would be simple. Attempting to point out the error of their ways in not complying is harder and rather like banging one's head against a brick wall.

You do seem to have no trouble with that aspect TW.

Is that is so probably better you desist and save the pain

The government will need to legally define the close down of premises, just as they have done in other countries otherwise businesses are left without any help. Meanwhile anyone who wants to disrupt the process generally and cause upset on here or anywhere else is better ignored.

That is all just speculation, back in 2009 when we had the Avian flu outbreak government officials said then that up 75,000 people could die , but it would seem no one did , it is very easy to scaremonger and the press are good at that

As of last night 2158 dead in Italy - god knows how many by now.

Certainly, Ruffs. Attempting to persuade another to accept the recommended ways has resulted in the making of personal comments which is to be regretted.

From your various recent posts you seem to be in denial that COVID-19 is a Clear and Present Danger. There is sufficient evidence from around the world that we find ourselves in an exceptionally serious, if not dangerous position. Personally I don't think it particularly helpful for you or anyone else to try and underplay that seriousness. Sensible people will look at the press and TV assimilate what they need to know and adjust their lives accordingly in the hope that they can stay safe.

I would think ,that this club are very aware of the cancelations ,that are happening , and as CT is a tiny portion of the membership, ,and those who have taken , by posts on here, the responsible attitude by cancelling, their bookings,, to see how much further the situation is going to deteriorate, and to help keep others safe ,
IMHO it will be taken out of the head honchos hands , in the very near future , as to site closures,, with both clubs,

People are in unchartered territory. Certainly in this country it isn’t something that most of the population will have encountered in their lifetime, and there will be a lot of individual and family group based decisions and prioritisation going on.
The ideal scenario is two healthy people with no children, no dependent relatives, a good income not reliant upon work, the capacity to keep busy and fight off any kind of boredom easily and in a variety of ways, and being technologically savvy enough to get all basic requirement for 3 months delivered to the door and paid for distantly. (I personally would throw a few pets into the mix for the wonderful boost to companionship and fun, but recognise it isn’t for all😁) Hands up all of us in such a perfect scenario?
Another little gem to ponder on. My home area, a total of some 178 square miles, with a population of around 250,000 persons, currently only has two recorded instances of the virus since the crisis began. Both recovered safely. That statistic hasn’t altered for over two weeks I am happy to report. Fingers crossed it will remain so. There are other locations equally as lucky at the moment.

As the club advice is dated at 14:00 yesterday, it is at odds with current government advice.
We are currently on site, as we came away before the latest announcements. If they had been made before we travelled, I would have cancelled. Seeing we are here and it is easy to maintain social distancing, we might as well stay. We have a journey home whatever, although we will leave to avoid the worst of the influx at the weekend, which is not showing much of a decrease on late availability. We are using the block first thing for a shower and then our own facilities. However, practicing enhanced hygiene really gobbles up the water and would be much easier at home.
We have future trips planned and booked, however although I will leave these at the current time, I think it very unlikely we will be able to take them.

We also want to reassure you that UK Club campsites are open. We are following Government guidelines and taking all appropriate measures to ensure our campsites are open and ready to welcome you.
not sure how the club thinks this stacks up with government advise that we should not undertake any "non essential travel", what will happen if we have to go into a lock down at very short notice such as in Spain, that has banned all movement except to the shops, and then only 1 person per car, and we have lots of the over 70's stuck on camping sites, with a potential to clog up hospital beds , nightmare.
see what is happening in Benidorm, people trapped in holiday apartments, armed militia on the streets enforcing the lock down

I am NOT in denial that this is a serious situation ,but people running round like headless chicken scooping everything of the supermarket shelf’s is not the way to go about it , i went to Sainsbury’s to day to get some shopping for my mum ,but the shelf’s were clear of almost everything , if the virus doesn’t kill us the starvation will

We should be going away in 4 weeks but realise that this won't happen now. Whilst one week is at a club site the other is at a CL and so they will be deprived of a bit of income from me, (I've actually paid £25 deposit which I know I won't get back). I hope they manage to stay open in the long term.
To stave off the inevitable boredom I'm making a list of all the DIY jobs that I can do at home so tomorrow I'm going out for all the materials I need. I consider this 'essential travel' as it will ultimately keep me sane and I doubt I will come into contact with anyone but at the checkout. Doing this now before things hot up in this area is, in my opinion, the wisest thing to do.

Some thoughts from you all please regarding over 70s isolating. We live in a busy household, daughter, husband, 3 grown grandsons. Daughter is teaching assistant, son-in-law works for Royal Mail visiting sorting offices all over the country. Eldest grandson works in TV and sometimes at Westminster. Middle works at Thorpe Park, if it opens, and youngest at school Daughter also does a bit of childminding after school kids. I feel that we are more at risk staying home than going in the caravan. We never use site facilities anyway, and we can keep contact with others to a minimum.
Should I stay or should I go??
