Prime Minister, Chief Medic and Chief Scientist have all had their say, but some members want to know what Rowena thinks.

The prime minister in Albania has said that "hiking is not essential" as they even ban walks in the park!  Still not quite sure what to do about this coming weekend away - Govt advice seems to be "by this weekend" be doing all the social isolating.  We certainly shall not be making any more bookings for a number of months.

I think the biggest problem is that although some of the measures the Govt is "suggesting" are the same as other countries, other countries are saying "must" & "will/will not".  In our case it is only advice.

Btw, anyone thinking Cornwall will be safe should note there is someone from our neighbouring village seriously ill with the virus in Treliske Hospital which is stretched at the best of times. Come here and be ill at your peril but please don’t make things worse for the locals.

so you think roaming the country in your LV that is a potential virus carrier is in your words "life has to go on"

just maybe many more peoples lives will "go on" if we all hunker down for a few months , prevent the spread of this virus as much as possible and keep the death rate to an absolute minimum undecided

Lock ourselves away indefinitely, six feet under? It will last for a very long time. undecided

At present we have advice, if some of us can't understand this we will have legal enforcements to help us.

The advice that I personally shall be adhering to is not to socialise, visit pubs or any establishments other than for food shopping.

It may be that this government by issuing "advise" instead of "must "and "will not"      have made the mistake of believing that the UK population would be more responsible    ,about their and others around thems  safety  m   in the face of what is turning out      ,the way it is expanding,   into one of the biggest threats to possibly hundreds of thousands of lives

yup my mum in-law 93 but in reasonably good health and mobile, in sheltered housing, but now in lock down because one unspecting vistor, 4 days after  visiting proved positive.

This could be the same on a club site, you pull on, not aware that you are a carrier, leave 4 days later after infecting just one other person who then moves on infects a couple more on another site and so the saga continues, just irresponsible.

I think the goverment should have made all non essential travel enforceable by law as it is now in many EU countries, but unfortunately they didnt in the belief that we would all be sensible. Reading some posts on here they got it very wrong.

Why will it when the Govt recommendation is to avoid non-essential travel?

Any movement around the country has the potential to spread the virus.

...but ignoring the advice to stop unnecessary travel. I can’t make up my mind if you’re for real or just being deliberately provocative.

Oh, I am for real. But to be realistic whether I travel to not socialise or stay in one place to none socialise makes no difference to the danger presented does it?

I do not presently intend not to travel in early April with my grandkids but rest assured that beyond this family meet up we shall not socialise further. I suspect that whilst trade might reduce in our local pubs that it will in no way cease but I do not frequent pubs as such. There are a couple more geared to meals that I would normally use on one day in the week for a meal (which gives me a night off from cooking) but I will not be using them for the foreseeable future. The question is do I use my local takeaway instead? Undecided on that one at present.

With regard to using Club and other sites I have a 6 sites booked over a 30 day period from mid April. If I was still able to indulge in hill walking or if I still went off fishing trout then I probably would go as I would still not be socialising. As neither of those apply sadly I may well cancel part or all as the location of some do not lend themselves as readily to avoicing people. I may also consider booking some alternative sites where there are walks that I can still manage and those that have areas that I can enjoy without proximity to others. Whatever I choose I shall not be socialising unlike many that doubtless will whilst staying at home. Whatever I decide I will mitigate any risks whether at home or away.

The PM also said that to go for a walk was quite permissible in order to gain a exercise did he not?

Very difficult situation. On a personal level we have a holiday booked at Keswick over the May bank holiday.Haven't cancelled it YET but probably will within the next couple of weeks. On the other hand if the clubs/private sites all close down it is going to cause a lot of financial hardship. The clubs can probably take the hit best but private sites? There is no easy answer.

Have a horrible feeling that you are spot on about the insurance thing. They are probably already reeling a bit now because of the recent floods. No easy answers are there?

I think you are just being difficult on purpose.  It is abundantly clear what non essential travel means to a reasonable person.  It is NOT essential to travel with an outfit or motorhome for leisure purposes.  I suspect the Club will have to make a decision about closures because people like you cannot or are unwilling to accept the guidance, Quite sad really.

I really do not care what non essential travel means. All I care to do is limit my exposure to others for their sake and mine. You do your own risk assessment and I shall do mine

TDA's link to the 'Yes PM' clip sums up what has happened so far. When this thing initially kicked off, we should have implemented a far stricter control of those coming into the UK. As it is, we have left the stable door open and there is no way we are going to get the Covid19 genie back in the bottle.

I've emailed Rowena this morning regarding this thread. I see no reason at all to try and debate the advice from the govt. In one way or another this situation will be life changing for everyone, what's to debate about that?

Off now to see if the police will let me through the roadblock so I get some supplies

    Morning

It's not for you to make that risk assessment. Your role is to do as the rest of us are prepared to do and follow Govt guidance. Yes, it means you, you are not a special case.

agree, however, China are now saying that there is evidence of coronavirus in November 2019, so who knows how long we may have had it within our borders.

But if they can cancel the Grand National that is good enough for me, this old stalion is staying at home.laughing
