ET, I fully sympathise with the circumstances of you wanting to get away, indeed found ourselves in a less fraught but none the less similar position last week. We coped just as you envision doing, however, the situation has now ramped up hugely, and our experience was one of glad to be home despite having a really good time. There was nothing closed at the time of our visit, things were easily bought in all supermarkets, and we weren’t very far from home or a decent hospital. Important to me as we had two in the vulnerable category. We also went from a no cases area, to a no cases area, travelling avoiding cities. We also had two cars, so if we had a problem, we didn’t need any other form of rescue or public transport.
Whatever your decision, I hope things work out and you all stay safe and healthy.

Just to illustrate that we live in interesting times, to coin a phrase, 2 quite bizarre examples [the 2nd where a little more context may have helped ...].
After the PM exhorted everyone to avoid pubs, clubs and restaurants yesterday, his father Stanley announced that he would still visit the pub ...
And, in Texas, tomorrow's execution of a prisoner has been postponed 'because of the public health crisis' ...
But, there again, the US was proposing to allow two 'high class orgies' [is Bacchanalian still de rigeur?] to proceed despite scientists' comments that it was hard to imagine a superior environment for coronavirus [and other infections?] to be transmitted.

I suspect your rather convoluted post is probably way out of order, HB.
The discussion is about the Govt's crystal clear advice to us not to undertake non-essential travel and is attempting to help others realise the gravity of the situation. It is not about taking sides and point scoring in this very serious matter.

Oh so sorry TW (back of hand on brow) I thought the travel was tube rail and bus in inner cities,but, you, as you keep reminding us live in Cornwall where the air its just sooo fresh, shall we get the bus today darling, oh no its frowned upon by Westminster, 300 hundred blimming miles away.. H

Not worth a reply TW, anyone coming on here to win a personal verbal battle hasn't yet absorbed the reality of the situation. Reading Rowena's post just now on the NEC thread shows the difficulties the club are working under and the pressure on staff when there are fewer at work to take the load.
I'm sure we'll get updates about the sites and bookings. I wish the staff well in their endeavours to help all those concerned.

We were due to go away on the 28th, but following the advice to avoid unnecessary travel and, being over 70 reduce social contact, we have decided to cancel. We have 2 CAMC bookings, 1 CL, with deposit, and 3 CCC sites with deposits paid.
They are mainly keeping to their cancellation rules, but we will be allowed to amend bookings that are less than 31 days away, both dates and sites, as many times as we wish, up to the end of the year.
So not exactly no charges.
So we will cancel one booking as it is far enough ahead, and pick a date in September/October to move the other 2 to. What happens if we cannot travel then is anybody's guess.
Hopefully the CL will hold our deposit against a booking later in the year also.

Yup my daughter is a teacher in Sutton 1,700 pupils , still in school, she has a hubby and 7 year old daughter at home and was hoping to take a break in that Egyption place over Easter, that is not going to happen, and now 16 teachers in isolation and the whole of year 9 sent home, asked if she could visit over Easter instead, no way, will have to be face time.
not sure i can quite see the logic sometimes.

Don’t get me wrong, I get that. I think the main point I glean from all of this, is the importance/danger of person to person interaction. In that respect, whether or not ‘Easy’ wishes to go away pales into insignificance when one considers the current contact between people.

Mother Iveys Bay caravan and touring park in North Cornwall has postponed the opening date from late March until late April.

The vast majority of earlier comments on this discussion have much merit. However, since the discussion was first opened by CharlieLinda on 14/03/20 a number of measures to control this terrible COVID -19 have been put in place and subsequently amended as this virus gains ground and the numbers of affected persons increases. Our fellow citizens across the globe are enduring similarly tough controls.
In view of our government's recent announcements (I am not a political flag-waver) I am happy to comply with these very tough measures and have accepted that my forthcoming 7 x weeks road trip in France by way of P&O Ferries Hull/Zeebrugge/Hull will not take place. I hope & expect to get a full refund/booking credit from the CAMC booking service in due course but if not, I will take it on the chin. As retired pensioners, the financial loss will not be attractive....but acceptable. Nor will I expose myself & my wife to any possibility of contracting the virus & equally, will not wish to affect others should we subsequently become carriers.
If the situation improves in later weeks & months and we are fit & healthy enough to enjoy it, we may consider a short break in the North East of England where our daughter, son-in-law & two young grandchildren live. Technology affords us the opportunity to keep in touch with our family throughout these troubled times.
I respectfully implore everyone to exercise caution & good sense.

Evening
So, why don't all take a different approach rather than arguing or debating what's right or wrong about our country and the incoming changes and discuss how we as caravanners/ motor homers can support our pastime? We all want to get out and about, that's why we have outfits and why we are members of our club, but it's looking like that may be curtailed for a bit. This is new for us all but surely a forum like this we can discuss how we get through this difficult time without maybe using our vans?

agreed, i know this post is Stay or Go but we could use it just to keep things ticking along and keeping people informed of new developments, believe me in 3 months time when we are still in lock down some folks are going to need some online contact, i use face time with daughter in Spain and already this is proving to be a real bonus , this forum could prove to be also.

Having planned a month away covering 6 different sites, we have decided to return home after 4 days away.
I have a cough, but not persistent, and I don't have a temperature (I test twice a day)
The rationale is quite simple. It has been suggested that the corona virus may be able to live on un treated surfaces for over 24hours. I don't want to catch from someone else if I don't have it, and I don't want to give it to others if I do.
I understand the 'keep calm and carry on' attitude that some have, but feel that when communal areas are being shared we should be pragmatic and follow government advice. Whatever your politics, the actual advice is coming from health professionals who are suggesting that deaths of 20,000 would be a good outcome.
Keep safe folks, and keep those around you safe as well
