Test so see if I can put in a link to Altnaharra site page using the Mac rather than iPad.

    Edit

Works fine on the Mac. Altnaharra within the text is red and a live link. Although doing exactly the same on the iPad this didn't happen and the link was added at the start of the text string. (as in my post #85) Clearly an incompatibility with the program and pad.

I touched on flag and created a report but it seems to have appeared below, that's different, hopefully Rowena also gets advised.

There seems to be an issue with creating a link on an iPad. I was using iOS 18 and safari. Although I highlighted where I wanted to put the link, it created it at the start of the string #post 85. On the Mac post #92 using OS sequoia and safari everything worked as expected.

How are you creating the link TDA? I have been using the method Rowena outlined, highlighting a link and assigning a URL to it by cut/paste and that certainly doesn’t work on my iPad. If you let me know how you created your link, I will see if I can get that to work.

just go up to the URL link of whatever you are viewing, linger on it until Copy box drop down comes up,click on copy. Go to comment box on here, use cursor to bring up paste box (you sort of linger on it). It will come up black, but then you press enter/drop a line on keyboard, and it makes it live, come up red. Then post comment.👍

I definitely give up. Life’s too short to faff around like this. What’s wrong with a simple link even if it is long? CT never did make it easy for us.

Thanks TDA. Tried it but it just locks up the iPad and I have to close down the page. Are you running iOS 18? or an earlier OS.

First thing I did was to go into settings and work through them. I am happy not to be totally private. As you can chose what folks see, don't see much point in hiding some facts which others might find useful.

it’s what I always do on a new forum and I never put anything in my profile that I’m not happy to share. As far as I can see, the majority is filled up with icons and badges stuff, whatever that all means🤷🏻‍♂️

@SteveL an earlier version Steve🤔 Funnily enough, I was going to load the update today, but might hang fire at the moment. The updates often need tweaking after Apple do their stuff🫣

It wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a conflict between Apple devices and CAMC website. I still cannot get into the bookings platform on the main website. Tried all sorts of browsers, search engines, but it doesn’t happen. Fine on IPhone though🤷‍♀️

it’s now a hugely over complicated forum. They have included every feature they can think of - many of them are features that none of the membership have even yet found. Some of you are gallantly trying to work it all out but most members will ignore the new stuff . The whole new version of Club Together is a turn off. It needs some sensible simplification. Fast. Before lots of us go away.

I don't agree ET, it doesn.t take long to find your way around and it has some good features which were very much needed. I think it gives the user a lot more control of what to read and what not to bother with plus it is easier to watch posts of interest using the book marks and notifications.

I think you post on other forums under a different user name/s? Both those forums have the facility to see new posts submitted since your last visit. Both Caravan Talk and UKCampsites show a list of new posts since your last visit but the best we seem to manage, as of yet, is a list of sections where new posts are highlighted. You have to click into the section concerned to see the new posts and then even then it is a bit of guess work where the new posts start? I know what system I would prefer and perhaps the admin team may need to visit the forums I mentioned to see how they do it just in case there is an option to do the same? Or am I missing something?

@Takethedogalong I very much doubt all those 700 are real people. A large chunk of forum visitor numbers tends to be made up of bots searching and collecting info for other purposes. Admin can probably identify them.

you could well be right 🙂 but it’s a topic on other forums as well, so at least folks are talking.😁 I’m sure there have been all sorts of issues for folks, indeed I wondered what was up initially when I couldn’t log in, but I came to things late in the day, and it took me 30 seconds to set up a new password. It’s only day 3, and it’s very different in some ways to the old CT set up, but I’m happy to click on things, try to work out what does what. I just run with it, with the occasional hurdle in the way!🤣

Not easy to get into. I was told I had to reset password, so I now have one to get onto the C&MC site and another is needed to get into Club Together. Am I missing something?

I keep asking myself the same question over various things here 😄

It is indeed 2 passwords from now on even though the initial instructions don’t explain it that way.

You are right, two passwords required because they are two different sites. Your old user name and password will get you in to book sites etc but the forum is different. Not quite sure why it needed 12 characters for a password?

I would disagree, it now looks and operates like all the other forums I use, and the bottom line is that you can simply ignore the new features that don't appeal, although I personally think they are great, in fact anyone can simply ignore CT v2 altogether?

From the new names posting, and indeed old posters not seen for a good while, that I've not seen before, people aren't going away but rather come back.

And of course no server errors, so far.

But once you're logged in once then Google is automatically putting in the new details.

Another new feature which people may not have noticed is that the search function really works well and as you would expect it to work, and predictive too. I found that during testing and pleased to it’s still the case.

So I now have a new password for the forum but still use my old password for the main site? Google saves my passwords so will it know the difference between what is now two sites?

No it doesnt. The main site now says that my password in wrong. Shambles.

I had a similar issue with my Apple keychain. Not really a problem, I just asked for a password reset on the main site and all was well.

The problem is it may be two different sites, but my laptop sees them both as the same site and so auto fills in the last used password. This is then seen to be incorrect as it remembers the last one used was to access Club Together and so will not auto access the main site. I've now reset my password to the main site to match the higher security required password for Club Together.

After spending best part of a day sorting out a new computer, which now come without CD drive to load old programs, and the shift to Windows 11 it was not what I wanted to experience. I suppose I'm just getting old and unreasonable when I expect Technology to make life easier.

Edit - a big bonus is when you reply to a post it actually appears nearly instantaneously, instead of hiding for two minutes and then appearing as a double reply.

"but my laptop sees them both as the same site and so auto fills in the last used password."

Colin @eribaMotters - that was exactly the problem I was having. I use Dashlane - password manager - and because the log-in was the same for both - my email address, Dashlane was seeing them as the same. Inevitably, when attempting to log in and given the choice of two, apparently, identical websites to choose from, I picked the wrong one. This led to having to reset passwords etc. Having had to do it a few times I was getting more than a little bit frustrated.

Eventually, I found a way around it. I went onto the Dashlane website and managed to change the name of each of the websites to something more meaningful than simply camc.co.uk - or whatever - and called one of them CAMC Forum and the other left as camc.co.uk. That way, when given the option to choose which one I wanted to use, I selected the correct one and it auto-filled correctly.

I don't know if this can be replicated with things like keychain or Google - but that's how I sorted it.

Edit - @Rowena - a way around this problem - and I don't know if it would satisfy security requirements - or even if this is merely a short term problem until the two sites are merged?? - but you could change the log-in on the Forum from email address to username as it appears on here - and leave the main site as it is. Just a suggestion.

@Rowena - a problem - I have been trying to post the above as per the screenshot - tried umpteen times and it will neither 'post comment' or 'save draft'. It went on OK until I tried to do the edit and then nothing happens when I try to re-post it.
