Ro - Your reply confuses me. I have a URL that I want to post in the box but want the whole of that text, not a part of it. I then just want to make it more readable by doing what Peedee did by putting "Here" or a Shortened context word/s but it seems complicated. Surely there's a more simplified way of doing it?

I think I have some sympathy with Surfer on this because you have to click through two pages to get a list of section headers before you get to any discussions! It might sound strange to praise the old Club Together but the handling of categories and sections was much easier. I don't think all is lost as I think all the sections and categories could be listed on a single page if we you get rid of the photographs which don't really serve any purpose other than to look pretty.

@DavidKlyne yes I agree you have to initially, but then being able to bookmark your favourite threads means you are one click from what you are really interested in. I have around half a dozen threads book marked now, and post mainly on these, so very easy, just access via my avatar. Swings and roundabouts I suppose😁

Congratulations this forum looks really good to me and has been a doddle to use so far. Great job!

Just get rid of the unnecessary photo boxes and go back to a list

When viewing a discussion, you'll notice that the URL is typically appended with #latest

So why are we getting stuff like the following example

This is currently displayed under the following headings

Recent? The last post was indicated as being made in 2016!

Sorry but I still say it seems more (and unnecessarily) complex than the previous version.

This way is not actually in the box at the bottom itself - you can also post the link by typing in the comment box. Type the text you want to link to i.e. HERE into the discussion, then highlight the HERE text and then it brings up a box you can add a URL. With this way you have to click the return key so if you're on a mobile or tablet it might not work. What device are you using and I can report if you have any issues with this?

Step One highlight text and formatting options appear

Step Two Copy and paste the URL and hot return

I hope this makes sense. There are a couple of options for linking and I can send any issues on to be investigated. We can also maybe look at filming some video tutorials.

Hi @wh1nbrew, it looks like within the recent discussions you have the sort by filtered by recent comment, so is showing near the top of the feed again following a comment in the thread earlier today.

Let us know if switching to sort by recently created works for you.

All too complicated for my old brain! 😖 I will just plough along as I used to do on the old system.

What has happened to the "Stickys", particularly in the UK Sites and CL sections?

On the older version when it identified a contributor as Member, or otherwise, did it also identify them as motorhomer or caravanner (if that was in their profile) or did I imagine that? Only often it is useful to know when reading a post.

you are correct. The old CT2 identified me as campervanner from Cornwall. I notice even staff members, other than Ro and Kieran, aren’t identified as such now. D3an who posted earlier praising the forum is an example.

    Yahoo. It finally worked.

The stumbling block for me was that on the old CT system I "Copy and Paste" the URL I wanted to display FIRST and then abbreviated it in the second box by putting something like "HERE".

This new system works by putting "HERE" (other choices are available) in FIRST then highlight it and use the icon at the end of the drop down icons before I "Copy and Paste" the URL which will appear in the top box. THEN hit return button.

I think that's how I did it. Must have been the alcohol that helped.😂

I hadn't noticed that Nellie. They would be a sad loss to the members if they all disappeared. Some are outdated and no longer needed but there are quite a few that are still being used, such as the updating of Service pitches etc.

I hope @Rowena will be able to get them resurrected somehow, although how they would ensure their "Sticky" status may not be compatible with the system.

That’s exactly what I did, WN, and it didn’t work. I hate to tell you this but nothing happens for me when I hit on your red HERE ☹️. I’m using an iPad.

"Recent? The last post was indicated as being made in 2016!"

Part of a post made by @wh1nbrew.

Just a correction. The last post wasn't 2016 as I and a couple of others made posts earlier today, which are shown as the last post.

    Commiserations.

I'll give it a try tomorrow as well and if that fails, it can go whistle.

Having spent a couple of sessions on the site, my main observation is that the size of the banner picture and the pictures for each section are too big. They take over the screen of my tablet necessitating a lot of unecessary scrolling. Reducing the size would not detract from the look of the site, but increase usability.

I am also finding the main font rather small, especially that which shows the time of the post and the 'flag', 'quote' etc. instructions underneath.

It's as if the site has been developed on a large monitor with no thought as to how it looks on the small screen.

Having said that the site is much faster, seems more stable and I have yet to experience the dreaded 'server error' problem.

AltnaharraTest so see if I can put in a link to Altnaharra site page

    Edit

Well it sort of works on my iPad. However, although I highlighted the black text Altnaharra, it put another one in at the start of the text string. I’ll have to see if it works any better on the Mac tomorrow.

I have at least found out how to highlight a posters name, but I cannot continue typing after it if I include it in a sentence, as above.!😕

I did just wonder if we need a warning that we will be leaving the forum? As links seem to open in a new tab automatically (improvement on the old forum noted) is it actually required? I suspect Rowena and the team are also trying to get to grips with all the options and its usually not until you see a thing working in real time that you notice things that could be improved?

I am quite happy posting links like I have always done. I never learned how to do it the way some of you seem to want on the old system………example (hope it works)

I quite like that it gives a warning as well that you are leaving the CT site to view something.

I have just found another little shortcut to cut down on clicks!

If you click on the bell icon, top of page on right, it takes you into your notifications. Top right of this box has three little lines that take you straight to your personal settings for turning on and off emails and notifications for various things. I’ve chosen not to use emails (get enough of these elsewhere) so mainly using the notifications option, the bell. You can access your profile as well by doing this. I have gone private, but a lot haven’t found this option yet!

You can see how many folks are online at any given point as well…….click on Home, scroll down and it shows on the right of the page. There have been up to 600 folks taking a look at times, so there’s curiosity out there, if not actually the same number of posts.
