Very sad day for you TG, but thankful it was a peaceful ending to a very long life. Will be thinking of you and your family, take care on your way home.
sorry to hear your trip has been shortened Nellie, will catch up later with you.
Our day started lovely, nice meander home via some lovely places, sunny picnic lunch up on Coverdale in MH, then a brief look around Ripley Castle Gardens. As we set off from there on final leg, the heavens opened and we drove the final leg home in very heavy rain. All home and sorted now though....four days at home then off again๐

Sorry to hear your news TG, please accept my condolences. Many years ago my Brother died whilst we were in France so I appreciate that it is not only coming to terms with the news but you also having to make arrangements for getting back to the UK at such a sad time.

Nelliethehooker I hope your van niggles can be sorted swiftly and at a reasonable cost. Sad that you've had to curtail this trip but delighted to hear you'll be back out again as soon as possible.
Unless there's dramatic tides etc the south East will still be here to visit next year ๐. You'll be very welcome and we've plenty to discover and visit, lots of green open space too - if you look ๐. (Never really know whether Essex is south East or east anglia but neither do the forecasters etc al ๐๐)

Thank you one and all for very kind comments and thoughts it does mean a lot.
We should be home by the end of the week. Mum had a funeral plan all set up so some of the sorting out has been relatively easy. Just need to set up an appointment with her solicitor to deal with all the paperwork etc.
Moving on up to La Fleche today then onto Caen on Wednesday for the early ferry Thursday morning. We could have battled on up the road and got home a day earlier but I don't want to risk an accident and its a long journey when towing for OH.
Thanks once again for all your kind words and thoughts.

Moved on in the direction of home today from Bergen Bavaria to Hochenstadt (between Augsburg and Stuttgart
I assume Bergen was Camping Wagnerhof, David. We stayed there last Spring and found it was looking tired but it is a very handy transit site. What was the one you passed as we'll no doubt be heading that way again in the next year or so?

Mrs WN pleased with the work the dentist has done. Front tooth now looking better so that Christmas present crossed off the list.
A day of rain, some heavy. As the tooth area is still a bit sore from the work we settled on staying in and doing some housework.

Reasonable journey across the Massif today, with some spectacular views. Started off by visiting the Super U before leaving to restock. A very useful feature was the laundrette in the car park, which enabled us to do some washing while we shopped. One blip when the road to our intended destination was barred and the sat nav said alternatives were unsuitable. Eventually managed to get round it by comming back down the autoroute the other way, which allowed access.๐
Very quiet around here, just SW of Clermont Ferrand, not that far from Puy Sancy. Everthing seems to have shut up for the season. This included the one site in the ACSI guide that showed as open until November. Currently on a municipal MH Aire on the other side of the lake to the campsite. Very well equipped with toilets, shower, electric and WiFi. Apparently it used to be a campsite. Now accessed by a barrier and your credit card. Currently raining, heavy thunderstorms. Decided to move the van to another pitch, as I seemed to have parked in what was becoming a lake.๐

We went to RHS Rosemoor today, didn't read about events there and found it was a "free" day for all. We get in free anyway but it was super busy. Lovely Autumn colours, quite a bit of rain but still warm. On the way back we went along the Taw Valley, the river had burst it's banks and was a tumbling muddy torrent.

Brue I went, with a friend, to Hyde Hall today - because it was a free day. Nowhere near as busy as I'd expected and sadly very little autumn colour in the trees and shrubs but beautiful plants including lots of Rose's. A heavy shower but we were in the glass house for worst of it, did have to pop the hoods up once for a light shower. Eateries were busy but we opted to have a cuppa on the way home, shame cos their catering is great especially the one on the top of the hill.
Once indoors we had very heavy rain and a thunder storm, can't recall the last time we had one. Turned chilly so put the heating in - would have used the gas fire, but it was serviced recently - and it's dead- gas not coming through to ignite. Nothing lasts - we bought it from a British gas showroom! ๐. Luckily the boiler service just needed a new motorised valve and control box and thermostat as those weren't made any more....... Been a great year in so many ways for us NOT! Not liking the evening pulling in - our street lights came on last evening at 1830, they have sensors - didn't notice tonight.
Oneputt looks like theres been some stormy seas your way, not necessarily where you are.

Thanks, B2. We were thinking that the next time we try to go to the S.East we'll travel in a clockwise direction so Essex will be on our route before we cross over to south of the Thames. There are lots of places there that we've not visited yet.
And thanks to all others for the encouraging words. We'll find out tomorrow what's what. We have already been picking out sites for our next trip, but we'll wait to see what the weather's going to do after the vans fixed.

Glad that the dental work is to WN's satisfaction. Dentplan is a great asset when travelling as much as both yourselves & we do.
Horrible morning here today, with heavy rain and a strong breeze. This afternoon the rain held off but the wind got up and it was rather cold. Still not that chilly to cast my shorts yet though!!

Sorry to hear that you had a grotty wet & windy Morning Nell
.
Twas absolutely wonderful in South Cheshire
. Well Aged Sister wanted to do an ASDA run so I turned up with a load of carriers, the, now obligatory, folding plastic steps and discovered that I was without my wallet. So all I got to spend was 80p for the car park **, then had a diverting hour chatting to old & new friends in areas of a supermarket that I would not normally visit
.
** It's become habit now for me to ask how the Aged One is, and, if she's at 75% plus, I park up-slope for ease of parking and to check on the truth of her response. Should she admit to being 'low' I park in one , or two, of the FREE Blue Badge pitches, much closer to the store. 80p ain't a lot 'cos I get 50p back on a check-out bill of over ยฃ10 so in truth it's only 30p an hour !!
Oh yes today was a luvvly day in South Cheshire

I succumbed to long legs today, mainly to do with footwear. It wasnt a good look and I was going to an RHS property ๐๐. Standards you know standards. I felt very very odd. OH still in shorts, he's like you!
Will have to consider apparel tomorrow as I have to take mum to the hospital, below the knee will be free and as it'll be taxi from hers to hospital so open to sandals will be ok if forecast is correct.

80p an hour parking ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฑ
Can't even begin to imagine how many years ago that was the price here. Rarely use a carpark in town, we live close enough to walk, or if I have heavy shopping our parking permit allows me to be even closer. (Used to have personal taxi service who came swiftly to where I finished, so less carrying bird food etc, but he still can't drive ). I believe its ยฃ1.40 an hour currently....... must check if I remember
Weather wise we were the opposite of nelliethehooker. Still raining and blowing ๐ข
Would your sister not assist with a loan for your shopping?

This CP is immediately adjacent to ASDA & is covered with their company signs BUT it's actually a Cheshire East Council owned car park. The charges are 80p for one ( single ) hour or ยฃ1.10 for the first two hours etc ASDA do want to buy it but Chesh East won't sell
.
Strange really 'cos Crewe has the most expensive cp's in the entire council area !!

Reminds me of a doormat we bought in NZ for our son, we had space and weight once we'd delivered the dolls house and keyboard to daughter in NZ ๐๐
A golfer lives here with the best score of his life.
He's a pretty good golfer and s encouraged by his employers to meet more clients on the golf course and his wife - shes a tennis player to play often ๐

" Would your sister not assist with a loan for your shopping ?"
I would not accept one on two very clear grounds, Bakers2 ( See I Remembered
!! )
1 ) if the family found out I'd be the butt of their jokes for years, instead of ME being the poor put-upon young brother
2 ) I'd never have had the chance to criticise her choice of comestibles & cat treats for Fat Alfie her moggie
