I've been reading the posts from all of you this week but not had much time to join in. We've had a mixed week with visitors and meals to cook, a memorial concert for a friend who died last year (raising funds for hospice care) and then we had to say goodbye to our lovely old terrier. Seventeen years of terrier life has seen us through the end of work, matches, hatches and dispatches and a lot of time peering down rabbit holes in her early days hoping she would eventually re-appear! So the cat is reigning supreme and visiting dog will have us to ourselves.

Good to hear the various holidays are going well, we're off ourselves soon, we're looking forward to a nice break. smile

So sorry to hear of your loss brue, 17 years is a good age. Our 'Tammy'  was 17 when we had to say goodbye to her. Sad times.

+1 from me as well. Doesn't matter what the age is, it's still a loss to bear.

Does anyone know what this horrible white cotton wool/fleece type stuff is that is floating around in the air at this time of year? I don't generally suffer from hay fever type problems but this stuff gets really does affect my throat. I notice that it clings to everything, including the motorhome!

Hi David it could one of the willow tree species as I know what you mean it does stick to things and not good if hay fever sufferer either but they have said this has been a high tree pollen this year, we have a lot of oak trees here and the pollen is awful again this year and it gives off a yellow dust that again sticks to everything including our vehicles and yes it also affects my throat.

Very sorry about your news Brue having been there just over 10 years ago with our second springer spaniel and we still miss him.

Seventeen years brue, that’s a wonderful age. Thoughts are with you, as you know, we lost one of our dogs last month, and it’s simply awful.

TG, just a thought.....irregular heartbeat. Mum had this, turns out it was her eye drops, used to treat glaucoma. Taken off eyedrops, everything back to normal. Hope your Mum gets sorted ok.

Today was another with mixed weather, both sunshine and heavy rain showers, including a clap of thunder. Tonight we have a clear sky but low lying mist. We managed to fit in visits to a  NTS garden,  a ruined castle viewed from the outside walls and a grand house and estate, Haddon Hall. Here we had one of the best guided tours we've ever had, which contrasted greatly to that at Castle Fraser yesterday, which was probably the worst one we've experienced. Hope that it stays fine for tomorrow as we've a biggish hill to ascend.

Moulesy - No we haven't and thank you for the information.  Chose it because of the excellent reviews and easy access since our van is 8' wide. We have booked a grass pitch in the Paddock area which is about as far away from the road as you can get, since the only slight criticism was with regard to traffic noise on some pitches.

Tammygirl - the van is a 2018 Knaus Starclass 695 - MIRO is 1625kg and max weight is 2000kg. That's one of the reasons we bought it plus the massive (almost 3' wide) single beds which are so comfortable. Bit of a big beast to tow which is why I'm careful about where we take it!

Hope you have a good time in Cornwall R&R, we use Carnon Downs for garden visits, it gives easy access to our favourite at Trebah (pictured in the recent D Day commemorations.)

Thanks for all your kind words about our little dog, much appreciated.

DavidK, we were staying in Slapton not long ago and some places were covered in willow seeds, like snow in one place. I took a photo of it on the water's edge as there was so much!

Richardandros/ Moulsey:  We don't use Carnon Downs, as we have, for the last ten years used Globe Vale, near Redruth.  However, years and years ago, we often used Leverton Place, that used to be at Greenbottom (the A30 side of Truro.  The family that owned Leverton Place sold it for commercial development (I guess, when Peter Vallence retired?).  I notice that Carnon Downs is run by Simon Vallence, who I'm pretty sure is Peter's son.

At Globe Vale (where we use), the owner, Paul Owen, is also the son of a retired campsite owner - his father used to own a campsite on the Lizard.  They do tend to keep these things in the family.

    Catching up on here.

Brue I'm so sorry to read of your loss and am thinking of you.

Tammygirl good to read better news about your mum.

Off to a new firm of solicitors, recommended by a friend, today to discuss our wills and power of attorney. Wrote our wills in 2006, family firm closed and handed over documents to a large company a few years later. Took up their invitation to review them on the day OH taken poorly 😲😲. Hoping it doesn't happen today! Not happy with being chased, despite talking to her about OH from the outset, seems they want to charge for letter covering what we discussed - I took notes! But the 3 chasing letters we have all contain error! Wrong date of our meeting, missing words in sentences etc!! So not sure on capability carrying out actions when needed. I smell targets and income. So cynical in one so young!

Have submitted an insurance claim for the damage back in February to our conservatory roof. Very efficient until yesterday when we had a company out to look at it, I got a quote for the company who built it 19 years ago. Person who came out not customer focused, was from a glazing company, didn't offer any real info, wanted me to sign to say they could do the work 😲 replacing the panel.  Wasn't interested in discussing what builders had said re the durability of the existing product! Or how job  would  be carried out. Later yesterday I had a text asking about satisfaction of visit, reply by number, 1, 2, 3, or 4 😲 requested call back. Pushing hard for job even during the call back! I had assumed visit was by independent assessor - not! Person on the phone not keen when I suggested they were wearing 2 hats. Spoken to insurance company as I haven't agreed to cash settlement which is what company pushing but they've not offered anything in any form.  Insurance company not impressed either. They will discuss with me when report received. Exactly what I'd expect.

Must be my year for difficulties. Or am I expecting too much in customer focused service from suppliers generally? 😂😂

    Enjoy your day folks.

B2 I’ve never been impressed with the standard of accuracy by legal secretaries.  Very important documents like house deeds, wills etc full of mistakes which could have serious repercussions further down the line.

Feeling sorry for Mrs One, she has just left the house to travel to Norwich for her cub camp and it’s just started raining.  Fortunately we put the tents up last night ⛺️☔️

Arrived at Broadway a couple of hours ago. Fortunately, the forecasted strong winds didn’t materialise ( probably due tomorrow!) but we had torrential rain on the M1 which wasn’t pleasant. Looking forward to a ‘doing nothing ‘ day tomorrow and heading south to Exeter on Sunday, and then to Carnon Downs on Tuesday. Thanks for all the info you have given me.

You probably don't need any more tips, R, but on a good day there is a very pleasant walk around Stithians reservoir which we discovered for the first time last week. About 5 miles / 2 hours. Free parking at the dam, a bit of road walking in the middle (not too busy) and a dog friendly pub - Seven Stars - in the village. smile

Thanks, sounds lovely, tempting but a bit to big for how we use our van.

TG, just a thought.....irregular heartbeat. Mum had this, turns out it was her eye drops, used to treat glaucoma. Taken off eyedrops, everything back to normal. Hope your Mum gets sorted.

Thanks for the info, Mum's mental health nurse did change one of her pills for anxiety about 6 weeks ago. Round about the time she started getting short of breath and then chest infection, followed by pneumonia. Then the recurrence this last week of it again, she is very tired my sister told me today, not surprising really with everything she has had done to her and who gets sleep in a hospital. Will check with her GP when we get back (might try calling next week to ask)to see if the new pills could have any bearing on what's been happening or the irregular heart. The tablet to thin blood is to prevent her having a stroke, she has already had 2 TIA's that's how we finally got a brain scan which showed she had Vascular Dementia.

Very windy day here today but lovely and sunny this morning, took the opportunity to get the washer out and do bedding and towels all dry by lunch smile wind dropped now but we are just getting a rain shower, they did forecast one so can't complain.

Holiday weekend here so expect site could get busy. Its a new to us site but happy with it and will use it again when coming this way. Tournus is our usual stopover site around here but this one is much nicer (and a couple of euros cheaper) the other attraction is it doesn't close for lunch smile if we are ahead of schedule.

Have a good weekend folks whatever you are doing.

A much better day all round with nearly wall to wall sunshine so first job was get some more washing done. Then drove to the Back of Bennachie car park and walked from there upon to Oxen Craig, the highest point of the Bennachie range, and then took in Craigshallock and finally Mither Tap, where there was archaeological investigation was being carried out into what they believed was a Pictish Fort, before returning to the car. We were out for about 3.5 hrs with stops and did something like 7 mls. All the wash was dry by the time we got back. Still sunny at the moment, as I sit outside the van typing this.

Sounds like a good day Nellie.

We really enjoyed Middridge Meadows and would quite happily cart it round with us. Internet connection not that great here so may have to wait before doing a review.

Did you say you extended your stay there until Monday? Most unNellie like.

Definitely a walk for all fit persons to enjoy, with wide views on a clear day. Would definitely do it again, probably from a different direction as a change.

Glad that you enjoyed your stay at MM. Did you manage to get a walk in the woods along from the site?

Yes we head down to Laurencekirk on Monday and to Monturpie on Thursday. Had no problem shuffling sites, and are calling in again at Beecraigs on the way south.

Lucky you, think you have got what we enjoyed yesterday. Drizzling this morning, showers this afternoon, and torrential all evening. Haven’t seen rain like this since we were last in..........Wales. Soggy looking sheep everywhere. We managed a quick walk around Cymer Abbey today. Gave up after that, bought some logs and lit cottage stove......
