Agree with Brue about the SS GB. We enjoyed our visit to it and also marvelled(?) at how cramped conditions were. An eye opener.
My recent bout of non stop walking finally came to a halt thanks to my arthritic feet telling me they wanted a day off. They were a bit better after lunch so we visited the Abbey in Hexham. Impressive building, some of it dating from the 7th. Century. We've also taken the opportunity to catch up with our washing.
Can't say we are overly taken with this site. We're discussing moving earlier than planned, probably Tuesday.

Where you stopping WN? HW area is a bit short on sites, we use a CL near Gilsland usually.
Had a good drive over Peak District and Shropshire Friday, nice stopover in a Pub at Hanmer. Church there was lovely, it’s where Owain Glyndwr was married. Finished our journey Saturday through Llangollen, then on past Bala and down to coast. Cottage is truly lovely, very spacious and in a very nice village. Knit bombing everywhere, some of the best I have seen. We got up to rain this morning but got on with a drive to Aberdyfi, and had a lovely afternoon there. It’s glorious now, think tomorrow’s forecast is good, so fingers crossed. Seen Red Kites, Ravens, hoping to see some dolphins if we are lucky. Spotted a stunning beach side touring site, one to remember if we come back in MH.😁

Looks a great day out OP.
Shame about the site, WN. Will you seek another site on your way to Whitby, or try and extend your time there?
We've moved down to a CL near Inverurie, the Fjord Inn. We've not explored this area before and there seems lots of places to visit and a couple of decent hill for a walk.

After a busy day yesterday, doing the household and garden jobs that we couldn't put off any longer
We went for a walk with the dog through Stoke Woods also following the path which runs at the back of Cherwell Valley Services just off the M40. It has to be one if the best dog walks at a motorway Services.
Met up with some friends in our local pub for a catch up this afternoon.
Just watching Antiques Roadshow from Media City, interesting to see where our youngest son works.
Your trip sounds wonderful Oneputt.
Sorry to read you are not impressed with your site Wherenext, Whitby beckons at bit early?

We fetched our van back from the dealer yesterday morning after having the new front window fitted to replace the one that was cracked. Still no clue how it happened. It is now ready for our trip to Norfolk in a couple of weeks. 😊 We then went to our brand new recyling centre (what an exciting life I have!!😂 ) with our old broken garden swing seat. We were most impressed. It is so much better than the old one. The heat wave was a bit short lived - though we did enjoy a couple of hours in the garden yesterday afternoon on our new swing seat.🌞
Sorry to hear you are disappointed with your site WN. Will you find a different site or move on to Whitby early?
Helen I thought of your son while watching Antiques Road Show earlier. Would he ever be able to take you on a tour of Media City?

We will probably contact a CL that is en route to Whitby tomorrow some time. There are a couple that would suit us. We are staying until Tuesday as I want to go and see the bridges over the River Tyne. I like bridges of all types and had planned a day in Newcastle/Gateshead so don't want to miss out. Might have time if we're lucky to visit the monastery where Venerable Bede lived and worked near Jarrow.

I would love to visit the monastery where the Venerable Bede lived WN. Could you post some photos if you get there.

Had a nice day yesterday ar a classic car show down in the borders. Took my classic Merc was good to give it a longish drive out. Show was great as usual lots of lovely old cars and the setting is great in the grounds of a stately home. Weather was ok some rain but mostly dry. Might be heading away in the van at the weekend will just be somewhere local.

Looks like we will be coming home early, Mum was admitted to hospital last night, struggling to breathe and according to call out GP dehydrated.
Took 2 hours for ambulance to collect her from the home and take her to hospital, then another 4 hours before she was seen by a Dr (01.30) big sister was at the hospital with her daughter for support. Another chest xray, more antibiotics and she's on oxgen to help with the breathing. Oygen levels this morning are at 90% so that's good. Still no drip for the dehydration
but sister got her to eat a sandwich, chocolate digestive and drink of tea, so that's also good. Hospital rounds were at 11.30 so waiting to hear how she is now. Mum seems to be ok, pretty calm but tired. At one stage she asked where she was and why, when told she's a bit poorly, she smiled and said am I, I feel fine but my knee hurts
Another lovely sunny but hot day here, went for a 8 mile cycle ride to fetch bread this morning

Sorry for your news TG and agree AD we had friends here on Friday for a visit and came down to the Dordogne last Tuesday only to get urgent phone call yesterday re sad news for 1 of the couple so on the way back and sailing from Ouistreham tomorrow morning so only 1 week here and they have had a bit of hectic year. AD glad to hear your news re the broken toes are healing and hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday.
We are off this weekend for a break but not to far away due to another friend who was going to help with watering in the garden has had to go back to UK again family problems but at least a break and the weather is very mixed at the moment had some rain and a short thunderstorm but have had 3 very hot days upto 36C phew.
Francis glad you enjoyed your classic car day we get a few around here but the other day we had 12 classic mopeds go pass us all men of a certain age and only doing about 15-20 miles an hour very different but we do get a lot of motorbikes when weather good, did follow 7 Morgan cars plus 1 TR7 last year used to live in Malvern not far from the Morgan factory and friends treated us to a factory visit two years ago very interesting, OH has had series 3 Land Rover and 4 classic Range Rovers a few years ago.

Sorry to hear that TG. In my thoughts.

My OH is doing up some sort of moped in the garage, don't ask me what it is as he has managed to do it away from my gaze! It sounds a bit hot in your part of the world RedKite! We are still lacking rain here but at least it's cooler.
Hope you have better news about your Mum TG.
Millie you must be pleased to get your van back, hope you can enjoy your planned break.
Good to hear David's wife is OK and you can move off now.

Yes, I do hope your Mum picks up TG. Dehydration is quite committed n in elderly. We used to fill a couple of bottles for Dad with dilute juice of his choice, and he knew how much he needed to drink in a day. He was quite good at first, used to sort himself out, but we had to prompt him all time as he got older to ensure he got enough. It was very important he did drink with his medical conditions. Finding it a bit hard to get Mum to drink enough at times, but she does make coffee for herself and we have drinks with each meal.
Good to hear your news is positive AD, enjoy the rest of your holiday now, accident free hopefully.
We went our separate ways today. Mum and Sis went for a drive up to Porthmadog, OH took himself and his precious bike up Cader Idris, and the dog and I did the beach and and lovely tour of village and all the yarn bombing. Lovely time had by all. I got plenty of exercise pushing six and a half stone of Labrador around in his chariot, laid there like Lord Muck he was, after his sea dip! Nice sunny day, but forecast is for some Welsh wet!😕

Sorry to hear your news Tammy. Hope your mum recovers. Good that there is someone there with her.
At last David. Bon voyage.
We had a different sort of day today spending it in Newcastle. A nice change of pace and scenery.
Moving to a CL near Bishops Auckland tomorrow for 3 nights.

I do hope you get better news of your Mum tomorrow tammygirl. As TDA says dehydration is quite common in the elderly. I wonder whether some of the staff in her care home have taken their eye off the ball as regards her fluids?
Glad to hear you have had better news about your OH AD. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
Sorry you didnt get to Bede's monastery WN but glad you had a good time in Newcastle. Bishop Auckland is a nice town. Some of OH's relatives used to live there.

Thanks all for your kind words. Big sis saw the Dr this morning and they are happy that Mum is sufficiently hydrated
her oxygen levels are better (just having a battle getting her to keep the tube on)
she is on IV antibiotics and fluid tablets as she has fluid on her lungs which is making her heart work overtime. Seems they are looking at her being discharged on Wednesday all being good
looks like the GP was very much on the ball in getting her in quickly. Big sister told us not to rush back but to give it a few days to see how things go. As we are on the route back anyway we will judge it day by day. So glad to have backup at home. Mum seems to be coping well with it, thought unfamiliar surroundings might be a problem.
AD, great news for you and OH. Safe journey back up the road.
We found another stunning waterfall this afternoon, great photo, would love to be able to post it, one day I will work out how to do it.

Gosh that sounds familiar AD!! Best of luck.

It was an absolute scorcher here at Konstanz yesterday. After staying an extra day at Friedrichshafen, we caught the ferry across yesterday and had a wander around the place. Off today to the Rheinfalls at Neuhausen for one night, then the slow trundle back to Calais.

Good news David!
Hope the awning breakdown and packing goes well- we all just get on with it yet, if we were to describe the process to non caravanners, they would probably be quite bemused at the amount of work that this 'holiday' involves!

After a mid-morning visit to the Surgery, I'm having a short break on here from (re-) loading the motor for a few days at Durham Grange for a Steam Rally ( naturally
). Make a change for me from Cornwall since its only a four night trip, then it'll be two weeks of unremitting toil in the household cobweb chasing stakes
Surgery visit was quite good with the Clinical Practicioner - first time I've met her 'cos I've only been with this Practice for 78 years
Still she taught me a few things about my meds I did not know, so, if I behave nicely, my blood sugar readings should drop somewhat, and my weight should, I said should, head the same way. Still it's time to load the fridge - never know what them Northerners call food
Enjoy yourselves please

"Still it's time to load the fridge - never know what them Northerners call food surprised"
ABM - We called into a pub for a swift half on Sunday in Hexham. The Sunday special we saw being delivered would keep you going for a week.
Moved site today. Nobody told me about the A68! Up and down, blind bends, poor road surface. Never again. Avoid if you can.
It's like an antidote being on a normal CL again. Bliss. Mrs WN came up with a good suggestion as we intend visiting Durham in the next day or so. Why not travel to Jarrow first to visit Bede then call in on Durham in the afternoon? So we may still make it. I'll take photos but MH and DSB will have to wait a few weeks until I get home to upload them. My camera won't upload to this machine. Will see what I can do with Mrs WNs phone.
Raining now but due to be drier tomorrow.
