Thanks moulesy. That’s most useful. Definitely a ‘doing nothing ‘ day at Broadway, today. Absolutely piddling down - as it has been all night. Must refuel at some time, though. At least the weather can only get better ☀️

If you get chance- try the Hare and Hounds at High Hawsker - their Whale and chips are brilliant. It was our ‘local’ for a week when we stayed at Swan Farm CL just across the road.

Just been having a quick catch up, while enjoying a cup of tea in bed, enjoyed reading about all the trips, and activities.☺

Lovely photos of the poppies Moulesy, I have a watercolour picture of poppies  I bought when we were last down that way.

Sorry to read your sad news about your elderly terrier Brue.

Good to read your news Bakers2,  pleased that your OH's recovery is progessing well.

Not been up to much, busy at work this week, and spare time has been filled with the usual  mundane jobs.  Youngest son and his girlfriend are down from Manchester this weekend, shame it's pouring with rain again today.😢 local village fete may have to be moved inside this afternoon.

Have a good weekend everyone and safe travels to those out and about.☺

Teaming with rain here. I think our plan to clean the caravan ready for our next trip might be on hold ☹

We've had a lot of heavy rain since Wednesday, I'm trying to get a few things done but it's a case of being "hampered" by rain.

We're heading north soon, when we get back our son is coming down to Glastonbury for some radio work and we will be in charge of the new whippet for a few days...I am hoping this works according to plan. wink

I can’t tell you how comforting it is to hear others have this rain as well. Slightly drier walk this morning, only drizzling. Little river that flows through village down to sea was in full spate. I can hear it roaring from up in bedroom in cottage.

Might be scenic drive to Caernarfon for us today.

Mixed weather TDA but sounds like you are all having a good holiday, it's an area I like very much. You mentioned Cader Idris (I think?) which was the first big hill I ever climbed when young and Dolwyddelan is where we had family picnics years ago, so it's nice to hear about your visit. smile

After rain in the evening yesterday we have beautiful sunshine today, the forecast for next week doesn't look great for where we are planning going.  A change of plan might be required.

Bit of shopping this morning as its a holiday weekend here shops shut on Monday. Have noticed prices seem to go up come the weekend very strange,  fruit and veg much more expensive than back home as is meat, fruit from Spain being cheaper than fruit grown in France, fruit flown thousands of miles from South America is even cheaper than French, very strange.

Off out this afternoon to Bourg en Bresse, OH sitting watching trooping of the colour at the mo, you can take the man out of the army, but not the army out of the manlaughing

Thanks but I need to be careful as I need GF and I know the Quayside in Whitby do an excellent lightly battered Haddock, which we availed ourselves of today after first of all getting a walk in, albeit with a bit of rain as well.

Will look out the pub anyway as we're here until Friday.

Yes, it is something we will have to be careful about but the cat is very used to dogs and the new guest  dog is still a puppy and young enough to learn (I hope.) We will be seeing what he is like soon when we spend a few days seeing the family. smile

Well here's another! Although it was not as bright or as sunny as yesterday we've only had an odd spot of rain, not enough to be bothered about after the amount we've had earlier in the week. Managed to fit in a woodland walk, a tour of Leith Hall, a wander round the fine gardens there, a stiff climb up to a ruined castle within a hill fort and finally a stop off to view another Pictish standing stone. We even have hazy sunshine at the moment.

Sorry to hear that many are suffering from the effects of Storm Miguel, but perhaps the rain will be welcome by many farmers and gardeners.

Sounds like a lovely day nellie. It has teemed with rain all day here and very windy with it. However we passed the time by sorting out a new washing machine. Our 20 year old Bosch decided to die this morning just as I was sorting out washing clothes to take away with us next week. We were not prepared to pay a hefty call put fee for a machine of that age so we managed to source the one we wanted locally that we could collect and bring home today. Our lovely young Latavian neighbour helped us to unload it from the car and carry to our utility room. OH has plumbed it in and we are back in business 😊. We just have to work out how to dispose of the old one 🤔.

20 years for a washing machine is pretty good going!!! I am sure your local council will have a collection service, at a cost of course!

Millie - we have a local charity called "waste not want not" who will collect electrical items, even if they're not working, get them fixed if possible to resell to those on low incomes or unemployed. I don't know if yours is repairable but you might have a similar scheme in your area?

Travelling back from Lake Konstanz we've had torrential rain, scorching sun, thunderstorms, fog. About all we didn't have was snow. Visited the "Battle of the Bulge" ( Nothing to do with holiday diets) museum at Bastogne a couple of days ago and am now pitched, having been reminded by Moulsley's poppies, in Flanders Field among the Motorhomes, row on row at Ypres. A few days around Calais and then it's back home to catch up with paperwork.

We stopped off at Dolwyddelan Castle a couple of days ago! Didn’t climb up, too far for Mum, but drove down Nant Gwynant road, into Beddgelert.

We got up to Caernarfon today, heck of a drive from where we are, but glad we did to see the stunning castle. Little bit of town up by Castle is nice, but the rest of it is still very depressing. We drove back via Beddgelert again, and we drove into what used to be the old Forestry Commission campsite. Quite different now, luxury log cabins up where we recall camping and vanning, old loo block is still there, and they have created a new touring area at back close to WHR line. I had forgotten about the midges, on a par with Scotland today, folks wearing midge hoods. It was a lot nicer place all those years ago.......

Similar  here just north of Glasgow, though we did have a couple of showers.

We have had a busy few days, mostly working on DD's house and looking after Callum as required, but Friday was DD's birthday so we had a treat,  She had booked Afternoon Tea at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow, for just after lunch time, so after picking up Callum from nursery we went straight there.

It  was really nice, little finger sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, and delicious cakes.  All washed down with a glass of Prosecco and unlimited tea or coffee,  She had booked for 4 people, but as Callum is not really into all that, we had to help him eat it all!  He did try the cakes, and enjoyed talking to all the customers in the restaurant!

Today I have been finishing off bits and pieces for her as we are going away in just over one weeks time,  Tomorrow we will be home doing stuff like hopefully washing the caravan for our upcoming trip, then we are looking after Callum Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as other GPs are off on holiday.  Then we will be getting ready to go away.

they have created a new touring area at back close to WHR line.

TTDA what is it like, is it among the trees or in the open?  On the old site it was very difficult to get to and use most of the pitches unless you had a small van.

Thanks David. OH doesnt want to pay the £25 that the council want to take it away so we are exploring other options. However I will keep the council option on the back burner. Our Bosch dishwasher that died 6 months ago was also 20 years old!! We knew they were both on borrowed time so we have been putting money aside.

We found our old machine was too heavy for us to take to the refuse centre, so we managed to get it outside and took it apart. We kept the drum to use as a fire pit, and the "concrete" weights, and took the rest in pieces to the centre.

It’s right at the back of the site now PD, you drive up into cabins area, loop over top of old toilet block, then drop slightly back down into campsite area. Pitches are very much in woodland, I don’t think we came across a single one in open, so certainly not sunbathing spots. Pitches are very higgledepiggeldy, one here, one there. We did see some quite big outfits, but a deal of shuffling required I would think, and they didn’t appear particularly level. It was the midges that put me off most. Early June and folks wearing midge hoods doesn’t bode well for me. Does have a second facilities block in area though. The cabins are now up in those open glades that you used to be able to pitch up in. Touring site was busy though, so it’s still popular, and I don’t think it’s cheap. Cabins are huge, many have hot tubs on verandas, so the midges can enjoy poached human as well as raw🤣

I found it rather depressing to be honest. It was consistently voted one of the very best campsites in UK, pre the days of C&CC running it as Camping in the Forest. I doubt we would use it now. Maybe early in year when it’s too cold for midges, but not having the woodland walk down into Beddgelert makes it a bit of a trek now into village. Great for railway though.

That is a pretty hefty price to take away a washing machine. Mind you even John Lewis charge £20 to dispose of a washing machine so perhaps not so far off the mark! When we disposed of our old four piece suite MK Council charged £40 which I thought was good value. It couldn't be recycled or sold on as it didn't have the fire retardant material labels so even the charities wouldn't take it.

Ours charge £44.50 (up to five items so expensive for an individual piece.) A scrap dealer might take it off your hands for less.

We have the up to date version of Rag and Bone men who take things like old washers and recycle parts. They don’t take fridges, but take most other things. In past, we have used AO for replacing appliances, I don’t think they charge much for taking old stuff away.
