Wherenext enjoy both jarrow and Durham.  Think you're pushing it doing them both in a day! Plenty to fill a day at each place and you'll only scratch the surface at Durham. We sat in a garden in Jarrow and peered over a hedge and saw thousands of Nissan cars being loaded onto a ship/boat. 😲

Hi Bakers. Not too worried about time. Have all day. Wouldn't mind paying my respects to the monument of the Jarrow Marchers but that might be pushing it a bit.

How are things with you and OH? Settling down?

Got timed out 😤 at least your text remains now so have copied and pasted. It would have been posted before your reply Wherenext 😂😂

Good to read everyone's news. Too much to remember who what where 😂. So please don't be offended if I omit you. Sounds like folks have had super days out. But Tammygirl hope your mum continues to improve. Another David glad your OH toes have mended, ensure she take it easy for a while so they can fully recover. ABM food up north is wonderful, we have tried several pub meals in County Durham and Northumberland and as Wherenext says portions are very generous!

We're jogging along. Stroke early discharge support ceases tomorrow. OH had education instead of exercise in cardiac rehab today, he's thrilled to learn his diet should have plenty of pluses 😂😂😂 baked beans is as near as he gets! Saw the heart nurse this afternoon, pleased with progress. She talked him through ALL his events as he remembers nothing to a very little and it's worrying him. Personally I'd give a lot to forget it all 😢. She reckons he's a walking miracle and so many events in 3 months not counting pneumonia and fluid on the lungs. He's as brown as a berry and put on several kgs so really looking well. Hopefully his physical and cognitive condition will continue to improve.

Bakers, Mrs WN uncle can't remember anything in the 2 weeks after his op. Whole family (including doctor son) thought he had Alzheimers with the way he reacted. He's settled down a lot now but still has no recollection of those 2 weeks so I wouldn't worry too much.

    Oh, Ecky Thump surprised.

Will the Club accept an urgent cancellation from yours truly at this late stage ?? I'm due to attempt the scaling of the Great Northern Massif of Durham Grange to morrow, but all  the comments about DGB meals up there  are scaring { not so } Lil' Briansealed. I did say earlier that the Cheshire Medics want to see rather less of me not more !!

Seriously though Folks, I'm so pleased that  'you know who's' toes are getting back into 6 Nations Penalty taking form & that Mr Bakers2 is looking good for a role in the Christmas Panto once more.wink

Wherenext I'm happy if he never recalls it but it's concerning him. His cognitive issues are more keeping up with what day it is etc. He had quite a lot of delusional problems post op, which apparently is quite normal. Only he can do his cognitive exercises with my help where necessary but he lacks impetus and motivation 😢 but I suspect some of that comes from trying to understand why he has the problem! The physical is easier as he has to use the stairs etc and has cut the grass with the electric mower etc. It will only be 4 weeks on Thursday since his 2nd discharge, sometime it seems longer, so still very early days.

Forgot to say we've had rain today 😃😃😃  extremely novel.I have 1.5 full water butts. The garden could do with it raining all night but I don't think that'll happen it was only for a few hours, but very welcome.

Hi Bakers2. Lovely to hear from you.  I listened to an interview with Paul Whitehouse on the radio this morning as I was driving into the Cathedral.  I don't know whether you have been watching the 'Gone Fishing' series on TV with him and Bob Mortimer.  They have now written a book.  They have both had serious heart problems - Paul Whitehouse has had stents and Bob Mortimer open heart surgery. How they are coping since their operations and treatment sounded so inspiring.  I wondered whether you and your OH would be interested in reading it?

Look forward o seeing g the photos when you get chance to upload, Wherenext.

I know exactly what you mean about keeping up with all the news Bakers2 - glad to hear your OH is making progress in spite of the memory loss.  Good wishes to all others too who are recovering or coping with illness.  I feel wherever I go these days there are folk who are poorly or recovering from illness.

It's our last day in Cornwall (well, for a few weeks anyway). Rather appropriately, today we decided to drive to Holywell Bay and walk up to see the NT poppy fields at West Pentre near Crantock. They are a truly spectacular sight, made better, we were told, by yesterday morning's heavy rain. A couple of the fields also have marigolds poking through,  a lovely contrast. They'll be looking good for the next few weeks. smile

Just around the corner we came across this little shed, owned obviously by a true gramophone enthusiast. We had a peek inside which was a real Aladdin's cave with several old funnel horns (if that's the correct term) and the whole of one side was shelves packed with old recordings, what looked like a mixture of music and spoken word.

Glad to hear you made it there (and back) Triky.

    M, great photos!

Had a morning at Raby Castle, near Barnard Castle. Very interesting history and some wonderful artefacts plus some really pleasant volunteer guides, a bit like a Northern Millie.laughing

Then had a pleasant walk around Barnard Castle itself. Nice nooks and crannies and good local history if you look for it.

Good to read everyone's news, and pleased that things seem to be going well with the majority of invalids. Sorry to read about your mother, TG, hope things rapidly improve.

Glad that you're having a better time on the CL, WN. Is it Midgeridge Meadow, where we stopped a couple of yrs ago.

We've had 2 dry days and then one very wet one since we came to Fjord Inn. Have visited 2 different castles, Fyvie and Fraser and numerous archaeological site.....pictish standing stones, stone circles and a medieval church so far. Lots more places to visit in the area so have extended our stay here till Monday to fit in all we want to do, weather permitting.

Good to hear everyone's news, great to hear from you Bakers.

We moved sites today, we are now between Bourg en Bresse and Macon,  its an x municipal site taken over last year by a nice couple, she speaks very good english.

Weather was good when we arrived but the wind has just started to gust.  Satellite dish taken a battering so tv is off at the mo.

Good news yesterday and today, Mum doing well. The iv antibiotics now finished and onto oral ones, still on water tablets and when sister went up there today the physio was there getting Mum to have a bit of a walk around. They had her on a nebuliser yesterday which has helped with clearing her chest her oxygen levels now good and shes eating and drinking well. Last night was a better night than the one before, she actually managed to get some sleep. The staff appear to be very attentive, coming and sitting with her and chatting, going through her memory book with her etc. The nurse today was having a good laugh with Mum and sister about some of the things she comes out with when Mum says"am I getting a cup of tea or what" laughing seems she is much perkier today too laughing

AD, good to hear you got packed away ok and still found time for a swim. Will you have time to take a slow journey north?

WN, the A68 is road we are very familar with, my dad used to take it all the time when we first moved to Scotland in 1966, its a bit like a big dipper in places isn't it laughing OH likes to take it now and again, I think he treats it as a challenge,  especially when towing laughinglaughing

Lovely photos moulesy. The poppies are so appropriate and I LOVE the shed!

Glad you liked Raby Castle WN. We had many happy visits there when FIL was still alive and lived in the area.

Glad to hear that you have better news of your Mum Tammygirl. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Glad you got to Bavaria trikey. Hope Concorde behaves itself from now on.

We have been watching the D Day commemorations today. So moving. Those surviving Veterans are amazing especially the two who recreated their D Day parachute jump. They are in  their late 90s!!

Nice place BC, we seem to pass through it several times a year and always stop for a look around. The church in nearby Staindrop has the Neville tombs WN, very interesting. Did you get round the gardens at Raby, they were lovely when we were there last?

Ttda, we were a bit in between with the gardens at Raby, some just gone over and only a few new plants coming along but the furniture and paintings in the house and the history made up for it.

Nth - Yes Middridge Meadows. Quite a good CL. Mrs WN just beat me at Pool, all hers potted by hand rather than cue!😀😀

Know the feeling.  We are off for nearly a month from tomorrow - Broadway, Exeter Racecourse and Carnon Downs near Truro. Thank goodness for a 375kg payload because I think someone I know has used most of it for her clothes!

Weather forecast not brilliant for towing tomorrow.

Sounds like things are going well for most folks either away, or returning, good news. Love the poppy photos M, very spectacular, and well timed for D Day.

We have had a lovely day today. Glorious sunshine, so OH spent the day cycling, while the ladies and the pooch set off on a tour of Snowdonia. I had forgotten just how fabulous the scenery is around the Glyders and Snowdon itself. We said hello to an Uncle and Aunt buried up the side of Blaenau Ffestiniog, childhood memories of visiting them. Couldn’t do any walking, not with Mum and the arthritic pooch in tow, but we had a couple of strolls at Dolwyddelan Castle, and in Beddgelert.  Surprisingly little traffic on roads, so great for driving. Sorry, resizing photos would ruin them, but nice memories for us.

Have you been to Carnon Downs before? If you head down to Trellisick House (NT) just down the road, pop into the Punchbowl & Ladle at  Penelewey, great food and drink there. You're also close to the King Harry Ferry for getting over to Roseland - lovely walk from the little waterside church at St Just in Roseland to St Mawes and back.Apologies if you knew all that anyway - enjoy your time down there. smile

Super day. The visit to St.Pauls in Jarrow and the Bede Exhibition at the nearby Jarrow centre was worth the drive. I've taken most of the photos of the church and monastery with my own camera but we had to use Mrs WNs phone for the attached photo of the Jarrow Codex as they wouldn't allow my camera in. I'll post photos of the church, some of which dates from the original in the 7th.C, when we return home.

The volunteer who gave us a potted history was super. In the original part you can still see three window areas, one with its original glass in it plus the original place for the Ambry.

For those who wish to visit the the church opens at 10.30 during the week. The ruins of the monastery are next to the church in the same grounds.

The exhibition in the centre also concentrates on the history of the settlers as well as how Bishop Biscop and later Bede developed the church.

If you like history it's an important reference for you.

Yeah, noticed that 🙁We’re heading north, for a two night stay on a CL, somewhere near Stoke (southern Peak District) before heading on to the Lake District. It quite often rains when we go away (at least, that’s how it seems), so don’t say you haven’t been warned 😀

Wind died down just before bedtime so a good nights dleep was had. The site is very quiet just now,  wonder what the weekend will bring.  Been a lovely day today not as hot as the last week so much more enjoyable. Easy day doing a few chores this morning, then a bike ride after lunch into town which is lovely. Tomorrow we'll go further a field weather permitting.

Got a phone at lunchtime to say Mum was going back to the carehome this afternoon. The hospital are pleased with her tests and results although they have put her on a blood thinner as the Ecg showed she has an irregular heart surprised seems they have done a battery of tests while she was in there.  The last time she was in hospital was before she had me,  so over 66 years ago, she's was due an mot laughinglaughing

Thanks all for you good wishes, its very frustrating being away and not able to do anything.

375kg payload, wow what van do you have richardandros, I'd love to have that.
