We had a wonderful weekend at Buxton. Good hotel - especially when they transferred us to the room I had booked ("seating area" in a big bay window, plus a squishy sofa and mile wide bed).

It was a two minute walk to the Opera House and a magnificent stirring gig from Seth Lakeman. And a five minute stagger back to the hotel.

Saturday we drove down to Belper to see our son and family in their new house. Our granddaughter had had a more interesting evening - a 12k hike in the dark (8pm - 1am) to a bunkhouse (Scouts) - but looked fitter than me!

Sunday we woke to a light covering of snow - but the journey home on The Cat & Fiddle and deeper snow was "interesting". The snow plough had been through and we have a Discovery so were never worried. The main issue was fog.

Now it's back to normal. A good job we had the alarm on to wake us up at 5!

We are back from 'over there'. Sorry we couldn't bring the sunny weather home with us.  The blast of cold wind and rain when they opened the plane doors when we arrived back was a shock to the system!  I don't think our weather in Tenerife was a mixed as yours Tammygirl.  We had a couple of cloudy mornings or afternoons but always warm and no wind at all. I am now trying to catch up on here as well as doing all the holiday washing frown

I am pleased to hear that your OH is making steady progress bakers2.  I hope he is getting good care and plenty of stimulation now he is on the stroke ward.

I am glad that your procedure went well OP but sorry to hear that you have found a couple of other areas of concern.

Pleased to hear that you had a good belated ruby wedding celebration WN.  I hope your MIL's results are good.

Your cheese and marmite sausage rolls sound good Helen.  I love marmite.

Please to hear you got to Felbrigg Nellie and I hope you are enjoying Blickling today. We did a garden and grounds tour last year with a volunteer who had been a gardener there, man and boy.  He was such an interesting chap.

I hope your cold gets better soon tda.

milliehull he hasn't made it to a stroke ward yet! I was told  ohone at home he'd been moved at 8pm on Friday.  Phoned the stroke ward on Saturday for information explaining situation, was told he'd had a goodnight etc. Arrived there for visiting time to be told he wasn't on the ward! Yes he was still in same bed on cardiac ward. Someone else's details not even same surname!

Needed to have a grumble as he asked for shower assistance and then she stood outside I questioned this and she reckoned he could manage got her to supervise and nurse put his slippers under the shower chair soaked!! Another of several incidents.  As I was told, too many assumptions are being made because he is doing well 😤😤

Have to say attitudes have changes today as I have taken it further!

On a better note he scored very well on cognitive tests peripheral and depth vision and multitasking are issues but senior stroke physio said highest comprehension and sums scores she's seen this early! Light at the end of the tunnel??

Now sound asleep on his bed, bothers him not it's location at the mo!

Told he had a bed on stroke ward, took him outside  a wheelchair for a blow,  literally 😂😂 first fresh air since 28 January. Then a cuppa in the foyer. Returned to stroke ward. No bed 😤😤😤😤. Assured he will get the next bed a discharge later today.  I'll believe it when I see it ...........

Dashed back into town on the bus to buy more shorts as his no longer fit 15 kg loss, slightly greater than mine!

    Onwards and upwards 😃

Glad you had a lovely warm and sunny break. Been glorious if breezy here today.

ADD46 happy to share the recipe,  hope the link works.

Tip mix marmite with a splash of water and warm in the microwave for a few seconds. It makes spreading much easier. You can a just the amount to suit your taste too.

Best wishes Bakers. You'll both need a break when things have settled down.

Sunshine! On with some walking shoes. Felt miles better. Yahoo!! Found my old imperial spanner that I use to change the connection from Propane to Butane (and vice versa) on the bulkhead. Lost it, or should I say didn't look hard enough, a couple of months ago and found it in exactly the sort of place one would think of putting it and indeed the very first place (mis)searched. "A man's look" as Mrs WN puts it.smile

Is liking Marmite a marmite thing?undecided

Millie glad you had a great holiday

B2 glad to hear things seem to be moving in the right directiom fingers crossed for you both.

We got up to a lovely sunny morning today so took a drive in to Liverpool as I wanted to see the new Hillsborough memorial at Anfield. They have done a wonderful job and it looks like the club are spending a lot of money sorting out the area around the stadium. We then crossed the Mersey to Birkenhead and went to the U Boat experience it was very good and it was great to see a proper U Boat up close and there was a very interesting exhibition telling the story of the boat and the crew. On the way back we took a detour to Port Sunlight to have dinner at The Bridge Inn one of our favourite pubs we always make a point of going there for a meal when we are in the area. Now back at the van the site is very empty. Hoping this better weather stays as I want to get out a cycle tomorrow.

Glad to hear you had a great day Francis. I lived about 400 yards from Anfield at one time. Changed a bit since then.

Unfortunately the weather looks, well, not an easy way to say this, but absymal for tomorrow. Maybe you can entertain yourself at the Lawnmower Museum in Southport. Show your membership card for a 2 for 1 deal. No need to thank me.laughing

The saga of our central heating boiler continues. We have had two quotes, one from BG and another from a local company who are highly regarded. Rather interestingly there is less than £50 between the two quotes and I would suggest the BG one requires more work! The local contractor has listed a few options which would make the price quite a bit higher than BG. We have decided to go for a Combi boiler as we only need hot water for a shower each a day and sometimes a bit of hot water for pre cleaning pots before they go in the dishwasher. Moving to a Combi will allow us to remove all the water tanks. This could all be very exciting!!!

Removing tanks will free up some space, but do remember that with a combi, if the boiler stops working it will be a cold shower!

If you have more than one bathroom, it could be a good plan to have an electric shower in the least used one, as a back up.

I think the life span of combi’s isn’t as long as a conventional. We have a conventional. It heats a big old Victorian house, three storey. It’s coming up for 25 years old. Had a couple of valves replaced down those years, but it owes us nothing. Combis are great for smaller spaces.

Thanks, Millie. Enjoyed Felbrigg and our visit to Blickling today. Had a short talk about the history of the house before going round after lunch. Just a word of warning about sat nav directions. We put in Blickling Hall in POI but ended up at the Great Wood car park not the house, as did another car behind us!! I suspect one has to enter Blickling Estate as POI in sat nav to arrive at the front car park. It was no problem for us as we just went out for a figure of 8 walk round the estate from the Great Forest car park before driving round to the house's main CP. It's the sort of place that a single day's visit isn't enough for us to see it all properly.

We tend to shower one after the other so no need for an electric shower. If it goes wrong we will use the motorhomewink

Well folks I hope you're sitting down?

About 6pm last evening OH was whisked off to the stroke ward 😂😂😂. Hopefully there won't be false assumptions made by staff and he'll be treated decently and with respect. Very defined visiting hours which leave 2 hours to kill about teatime. A new routine to establish, hopefully the last before home. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Treated myself to a cuppa in bed and I'm still under the duvet catching up on here and listening to natural history podcasts. Enjoy your day folks, exciting times with new toys for some  😉.

I replaced our old back boiler and tank about 15 years ago with a combi that I installed on the gable wall in the loft.

Although the old boiler always provided hot water, the central heating system was never satisfactory and it always took be a full weekend to get it working again in the autumn. When replacing the boiler I took the opportunity to completely re-plumb the house using a push fit PEX plastic pipe. The whole work took me about 3 days to complete and was well worth the time and expense.

It’s true that combis are not as reliable as a separate boiler, tank, pump arrangement, and I have to top up the pressure in ours once or twice a year, I just check it every time I’m in the loft. Its only a two minute job. On the plus side combis are considerably more efficient.

We have a combi and a small radiator in the airing cupboard as well. The thing that frustrates me is amount of water wasted waiting for it to run hot.

Well .... we should've been setting off for a week in the caravan this morning, we've not been out since last Oct for various reasons (like work). However ..... one option would be to fit a rudder to the car/caravan or postpone for few days & see how things are then. cry cry
