Goldie sounds lovely but probably too mushroom for me, but thanks for the offer!

Was awake at 5am too early, not overly light or sunny. Listened to audible book and must have drifted off, woken by heavy rain and thunder about 6.30, not forecast! Decided to finish the chapter - woke 8am. Now all behind, but nowhere to be so not too bad. Weather has cleared now blue sky and wind.

Know exactly what you mean about the rain Gooldie things are looking better but not revived, several were wilting yesterday in the wind. Our 1st in the chain water butt  was full from previous rain but I drew some off and it stank, didn't get round to washing it out as something cropped up. Watered with the smelly contents and then washed out the butts different aroma! Grass and beds were glad regardless.  Worked it out that they've not been completely emptied for more than 14 years! My late father in law joined them in a chain and he's been gone 13 1/2 years. Also the 'pop sock' I replace regularly wasn't there so nothing to catch what's not water. No sign of it either so must have rotted right down. Thus delighted with this morning's unexpected shower.

Paid the balance on the car, received by dealer, we collect tomorrow at 3pm. Insurance company, Saga, took our money to change vehicles but a week later no documentation. OH sorted that yesterday, he'd asked for hard copies they emailed them - err definitely not! They realise they have a big problem and are couriering docs out for 1pm today.

Tammygirl hope your purchase and collection goes smoothly and that your aircon is sorted.

Right folks enjoy your day I must shift now before it's lunchtime,

Still no news on the mortgage for the new house, DD has spoken with the broker this morning and he is going to see if he can get things back on track.

One bit of possibly good news is that they have another viewer booked in for 2pm tomorrow, though this does mean we have been booked to help with cleaning and baby sitting.

However, even if they get a good offer, they cannot accept it until the purchase of the new house is confirmed.

If this lender now declines the mortgage, they will have to see if they can borrow elsewhere, which could take a while, assuming seller is willing to wait.

SIL only has one more week of holidays after this week, so no way is this move going to be completed before he starts back!

We have now definitely decided to cancel our upcoming trip abroad.

B2........They are trying to be as tidy as possible, and use as few rooms as possible,  so it will be 2 bathrooms to spruce up, kitchen and utility room too,  a quick flick round everywhere with a duster, and a bit of vacuuming.  Maybe run the steam mop over the vinyl floors.  Windows and mirrors may need a quick once over.  Garden to be checked, plants deadheaded.

I get the shower screens, mirrors and windows to do with the Karcher,  DD does most of the bathroom cleaning otherwise, OH is in charge of checking the work plus doing the kitchen, utility room and garden, and arranging the compulsory fresh flowers.

DD and SIL will have tidied by the time we get there at 10am, so between them they will do the floors and any dusting needed after removing all the baby equipment and the budgie, and hiding it in their cars.   Babies these days apparently need an amazing amount of stuff.

We are a well oiled team by now!

It seems that to sell a house, you apparently have to declutter it and furnish it in a manner that allows the prospective purchaser to imagine their own stuff in it, plus everything must be spotless.

And someone has to look after the baby too.

    It is hard work!

We have been threatened with heavy rain and thunderstorms for the last four or five days. We have had a bit of rain and we have even had a bit of thunder. However I have a strategically placed bucket with an open aspect in my garden and it is completely empty. Any slight dampness has been dried by the sun. Looks as if I will have to continue with the watering!!!

    Finally!!

DD has just rung to say the mortgage has been approved, and in fact was approved a week ago.

The underwriters had sent e mail confirmation to the solicitor but for some reason had used some sort of encription so the e mail had apparently  been automatically  rejected as suspicious.  However nobody at the lender had followed up on this.  A case of total incompetance by them  as they had also failed to investigate what was going on when the solicitor prodded them for a decision, merely repeated that it was with the underwriters.

Presumably when her broker rang he got somebody who was actually able to deal with this, though it has taken them all day today to sort out.

So a week lost for no good reason and a lot of distress caused.  At least we can all sleep well tonight.

Now they can conclude the missives and agree an entry date with the seller......he will be relieved too!  Tomorrow  it will be 14 days since they originally should have moved out.

Tammygirl hope your purchase and collection goes smoothly and that your aircon is sorted.

Thanks Bakers, aircon appears to be sorted they re gassed it with a dye in it to check for leaks, no leaks found but a valve had stuck open so gas had escaped. They said if that doesn't fix it, they will have an expert look at it. Bottom line is, if it needs to be replaced I have the option of doing, so once they give the costs involved or if I decide not to, they will refund the cost of the re-gassing. smile

Re the new car, went to garage yesterday to check everything out, tow bar fitted looks good, took car for a drive to make sure everything was ok. Car now being valeted ready for collection on Thursday.

Hope yours goes well and you have a good experience.smile.

Mixed weather today nice and sunny one minute then rain and dull the next, currently raining frown

Didn't get the ironing done last night but finally achieved it today smile

OH bought more T shirts when out today and a new casual blouson jacket, managed to steer him away from his usual boring colours (navy, brown, beige)  and pick something more colourful (deep red) looks really nice. Now the hard work, to get him to clear out some of his old stuff.laughing

Good news KJ, hope the next bit goes smoothly.

TammyG, sounds as though you are nearly there with your new purchases.

B2, I smiled when I read about your audio books, I don't think I ever managed to stay awake listening to mine when I had them. I could never remember (because I was asleep) where I'd got to or where to restart. However they were effective at inducing sleep but I often woke up a couple of hours later, so perhaps not so good. wink

Reminded me of 14 years ago. I was replacing the bathroom at Fliss' home and also redecorating throughout inside and out, working from 8am to 10 pm. We were sleeping in the second bedroom as we had been doing every other room except the kitchen which I replaced the previous year. About 10.30 pm we would go to bed and put a music CD on. Same one for a week. Played it in the caravan some 2 years later and it was the first time that I heard beyond the second track. laughing

Good new KJ, glad that it's been finally sorted.

Those getting new vehicles, hope that everything is ready for you when you collect them.

We're now down on Alan's Cl at Bibury. Walked down to the village after lunch and the place was packed with Japanese tourists. The village is quite nice but I know there are much nicer village in the Cotswolds for them to see, but thankfully they've not found them yet.

The diggers are coming. MK is about to get Superfast internet, 1000 mbps. We already have FTTC and FTTP available to most houses in MK but generally that runs at between 40 and 100 mbps. They have been working on the next Estate and just started to bring the fibre optics towards us and I imagine tomorrow they will start to dig us up!!! They seem to make a narrow trench about 10 cms wide and quickly fill and cover once they have done a reasonably length of cable laying. Apparently its a collaboration between FibreCity and Vodafone. No idea what the cost will be but expect it will not to be cheap!!! The whole ridiculousness of the situation is that had Openreach had a bit more forethought they could have installed this technology instead of the much slower version. All the infrastructure was already in place in terms of running the cables!!! Trouble was they were more interested in getting as much money as they could from the Government which thwarted their ambition!

I had a little mystery on our last holiday. Finally solved when leaving penultimate site. It was mention of Tee shirts that reminded me.

When setting up on 4 sites in a row I discovered blood flowing down towards my elbow from the outside edge of my wrist. On each occasion I had sited van with mover and legs were wound down and I entered the caravan to help OH only to find the need to grab kitchen roll before I made a mess everywhere. I realised that I had a small wound and after a 5 night stay that I must catch it again on the next set up and remove the scab.

On the penultimate set up as I was winding off the motor mover with my Makita drill I found it! Because I turn my wrist to an unusual angle when doing this it touches the battery holder on the drill where there is a small sharp edge, difficult to reach. Noticed because as the blood was dripping I had drill in hand with blood on it and dark brown dried blood from previous episodes. Solved by putting a plaster on the drill instead of my wrist laughing

Why did Tee shirts remind me .......... I now have several Tee shirts with black spots on them from dried blood

Were you listening to the radio at 05:45 this morning? Maybe not - too late for dairy farmers and too early for consumers?

Anyway, if you click on THIS LINK you'll hear our son James talking  to Caroline Graham on Farming Today about our plans for winter forage, after the dry summer. The link starts just before the relevant bit.

And if you just want to look at photos of cats, she took this one (they were waiting to be fed).

Spent much of yesterday replacing the rear legs on our outside chairs. I have had the tables and chairs for 30 years and they are under a covered canopy behind the bungalow as you walk out of the kitchen. Some 12 years ago we put in a watering system for pots etc and to top up the pond whilst we are away. I realised a few years ago that this had damaged the rear legs of three of the four chairs.

The furniture was not expensive but is solid and heavy and very comfortable. In the strongest gales only one chair has ever toppled and table is rock solid.

My first thought was they owe me nothing and I will buy another set. After a couple of years looking for replacements (price not a major factor) We could not find any that were sized as well, as comfortable and heavy enough to withstand winter gales.

On Monday PM went to local builders yard and got 3 No 8' lengths of scant and had them ripped to required width and just over thickness. ran a planer over to get exact thickness and rounded corners etc.  Made a leg to test fit. All OK but my spine had suffered enough for the day.

Yesterday with help from OH and a bit of resting between legs I replaced 7 rear legs. Although the remaining rear leg is OK decided that I shall replace that as well. There were two front legs to replace but have decided to grab another two lengths of timber and replace all. Will pop down to local builders merchant and get the two more lengths ripped to size.

Happy birthday to Mrs Oneputt, have a lovely day!

HelenandTrevor I think there is something seriously wrong with the club's IT, as if we Caters didn't know! I think the management may find out soon, threads about emails received to join - been members for years LOL and buying TO when they already have! As well as posted letters, why not add yours to the mix?

Lovely photo Goldie, haven't listened yet but will do soon. Me thinks food will increase in price because of the lovely long hot dry spell - there are always consequences!

Enjoy your walk HelenandTrevor and similar to you milliehull with the garden.

I'm going to do a top up shop, son arriving tonight apparently, doesn't need dinner - phew were going for a drive after car collection and dinner to celebrate new car. He's catching up with friend who teaches in Thailand before he heads back there.

Sorry to hear about those of you who bleed these days - at least the bloods still flowing! Sounds like a good job done EasyT. One solution always permits another problem.

    Enjoy your day folks

Edit I'm having big trouble posting this 3rd attempt, new tablet but worked fine Monday and Tuesday! Unable to include smiles from this site or my own, that's cos I haven't located them hahaha!

Re audio books I have a good selection. I rarely here the book through first time or second. I often nod off- in fact that's often what I use them for especially long haul! I just listen sometimes randomly but they're all stories/books I've read - much cheaper that way 😂😂.

I loved my iPod and podcasts for that too, but an upgrade stopped each episode as it finished, so nod off - wake! Cured it by using in a playlist and that worked well until they upgraded again. I loved the natural history ones or the walking ones. Still have them all there, may try again as I've not connected iPod and computer for ages but have done the upgrades.

Used to listen to the World Service for years, often had dreams about Russian gas pipelines and similar! But news far too often now and introductory music far too loud when ones trying to sleep 🤣

    Found the smiley faces.

😤😭 madness our madness! However small the hole it never goes back the same. Our roads and pavements don't need any more hazards 😤😭.

We had gas mains laid in roads under the pavement, BEFORE they redid the pavements 😮. I congratulated the final finishers as the relaid slabs were much better than the originals were. Until folks started driving/parking on them. Our new pavements are tarmac and they dropped the kerb the whole road length, bus route parking half on half off. Result where there are no parked vehicles drivers take to the pavement so as not to be slowed by oncoming vehicles 😤😤😤😤😤.

The other afternoon talking to our friends, he's long retired traffic cop, cyclist going up the road pretty quickly car behind on his tail hooting his horn for cyclist to move over so he could overtake! Nowhere for him to go, moving plenty fast enough for housing roads, but honking continued. The other day learner driver passed by jaguar behind  heard car drop a gear and low jaguar over took the learner 😭.

Are folks really in such a hurry these days? So impatient!!,

    Been there done that☹️

After almost falling down the stairs after  doing it, I put a length of cord on ours, that can be pulled up on top of the hatch before closing. This attached to a large cup hook in the ceiling takes it clear of my head when down.

    No more dents.😀
