😲. Sorry but it really is the best time for it to rain. I love the sound of rain when I'm in the motorhome and we're in it from Thursday. I don't think Goldie or I are suggesting a deluge - not good for the crops at this stage, but they do need a gentle rain to swell the grain. Otherwise we'll all be hungry and no flour for pizza dough 😉 or other breads 😂😂. In Goldies case no milk to sell to us either 😲😲.

I'm loving the weather but ground could use an overnight rain or 2 😉

Beautiful day again here 27/28 this afternoon. Decided on a trip to National Trust Hardwick Hall, its only about 14 miles away. As it happens the house was closed today, but gardens and park were open. This meant it was lovely and quiet in the garden, as there were no tourist coaches and less traffic in general. I particularly liked the ginormous thistle, with what looked like an olive tree behind. The other two pictures are of the herb garden, which was the best we have ever seen it. We bought a couple of plants, which we will plant later, when it cools off a bit.

I think this weather is better than when we normally get it hot, as the humidity is fairly low, at least here in Notts. Hopefully that will continue for a while, before the inevitable ⛈🌩⛈.

Nice photos Steve, I like those big Scottish thistles, we've grown them, they take two years to grow and need a good bit of prickly propping up!

Well it's 29C here today, just sitting be the river outside our van, a slight breeze. Watching trains go by over the other side of the meadow, they have slowed up considerably, the tracks must be getting very warm.

I moved the thermometer probe to be in the sun about 1pm 37c but just 28c in the full shade. I agree with Steve that it's a lovely heat at the moment, long may it continue 😉. We have a tiny smidgeon of a breeze too. I'm ready for a repeat of 1976 😆😃

Back home this afternoon after a 6 hour drive up from Hull, best time we have done it in so far. Roads were busy but no hold ups, so 2 short breaks and we were home. Its been a good trip time to start planning the September one now wink

Garden looks 'full' everything is bursting at the seams, bushes need a tidy up. I've already been and tidied up the roses and removed some of the dead leaves from the spring bulbs that were still in flower when we left.

Weather was warm and cloudy on the way up, sun came out at teatime for a wee while but back to overcast again. House feels quite chilly after living in the van for 7 weeks frown food shopping tomorrow while washing machine is doing its work.

Woke early this morning as our bedroom faces the early morning sun and after being the caravan for 10 weeks we'd grown accustomed to darkish mornings. Managed to clean the car before 9:00, prior to the temperature starting to rise, then headed to town, me to the the dentist to have filling, which fell out when we were away, renewed and Oh to her hairdressers, followed by a bit of shopping. Home for lunch then did one or two odd jobs round the garden & house as it was too hot, about 30C, to do overmuch. Cooler this evening and a lovely red sky now, promising another fine day tomorrow.

We got back home this afternoon from our trip. We had to detour via Whittlesey because the A47 was closed because of the dreadful accident at Thorney Toll. Our thoughts are with all those involved and their families.

The Wi-Fi was so slow during our last few days that I gave up! OH had a great birthday weekend with the family as daughter, SIL and 2 grandchildren camped at Seacroft. SIL completed the 100k N. Norfolk coastal path run on Saturday but was not in great shape on Sunday. He says he won't do it again (I have heard that before!). Eldest son and his youngest son also arrived. All the children had a great time in the pool on Sunday while their Dad's watched the England match and peace descended about 4.00pm when they all left. I made good use of the pool during the last hot days. I wish we were still there! Various appts in the next few days - OH's B12 injection and a check up at the COPD clinic plus his appt at the hospital about his carpal tunnel. Hope they can sort it out for him soon.

Sounds like the rest if your trip is going well brue. I would be interested to hear about the Samuel Pepys connection to Hinchinbrook as I had no idea. I hope you have a good journey home and that your garden is in reasonably good shape. Ours is parched and I think we may have lost a few plants unfortunately.

Glad to hear that OP, Tammygirl and NTH are all back home safely.

Yesterday morning I had to re-visit the Tesco mobile phone shop because my new phone was not working. The assistant said the sim card was faulty so changed the sim card. By the afternoon, it was working again, having been 3 days without a working order phoneyell. I do hope it will stay in working order this time, as I need it for my job.

The yesterday evening shift went all right. There was just one customer address I had difficulty finding. It was an address in Shoreham on a street with house names, no numbers. Unfortunately my google map on my Ipad doesn't recognise named properties. Luckily, my phone was in working order, so easy enough to phone the customer for directions.

I was glad to be out in the car most of the time through my shift as it was very hot in the shop with the ovens blasting out heat.

Day off today. So our first job is to get to the bank to pay cash into my account from the drop money and tips. We plan to use the Worthing town centre HSBC for that. Also, it's market day so a visit to the market will be on our agenda.

After that, we plan to visit the NT Petworth House. I have a £5 gift card to spend in the shop so I thought of buying a pack of notecards.

Keep a look out in the night sky for Vesta

The asteroid is known as 4 Vesta, or Vesta, and is so big and bright it can be spotted despite it being 106 million miles away from Earth

The asteroid measures more than 308000 square miles in size.

Nasa says the asteroid is not coming any closer to Earth (just to add some scare factor)

Should be seen in the night sky close to Mars, Saturn and the Sagittarius constellation

It will be visible until 16th July 2018, hopefully we will get some clear nightslaughing

That's a problem for a lot.  Although we live in a town the light pollution isn't to bad.  Hopefully we will be able to see it from Pembrokeshire.

A great free app for identifying stars, planets etc is skyview free

Thanks for the info Oneputt. I have now downloaded the App and can't wait for it to get dark 😂.

Wonderful full moon last night and a rather haunting photo on BBC new website of it over the fire on Saddleworth Moor. Sadly I hadn't been able to link it on here!

Another glorious but slightly cooler start to the day here. More pottering and a bit of shopping for our trip to Great Yarmouth tomorrow. DIL2b has booked Imperial Hotel for a meal Saturday evening.

Glad your back safely Nelliethehooker, Tammygirl, Milliehull after good trips. Hopefully you'll have house and garden shipshape and ready to leave for your next trip very soon 😉. As it's soooo hot were hoping ours won't grow much but I fear for tubs I've moved them into the shade and am ensuring they are as hydrated as possible before we leave.

Our hedgehog is still around and we've now solved leaving food only he can reach 😃. Sadly he'll have to fend for himself whilst we're away not got a method like the bird feeders!

Most make some progress. Enjoy your day folks.

A tad cooler here this morning.....phew! We had a lethargic Labrador yesterday, thought she might be revving up for something, but back to bouncy self this morning! Probably just the heat. Glad folks are home safe from various trips away. Hardwick looks lovely Steve, did you visit the Old Hall? Still some fine fireplaces high up in the walls there.

We have visited the Old Hall on previous visits TDA, as you say some fine fireplaces, plus of course great views towards the Peak District. Although these are usually best in crisp cold weather, rather than the heat of yesterday. Unfortunately it is currently closed for conservation work, there was no mention of when it might open again.

Slower to brighten up today, although now the sun is out and temperatures are in the low 20's. Just managed to get the cars washed before the clouds burnt away and heated the metal making it impossible. Well unless you like streaky cars.😂

Decided to go for a walk around Baggy Point at Croyde but soon realised that it was too hot. Not even any breeze on the cliff walk. Doubled back and wandered all along Croyde beach instead. First paddle of the year and a good way to cool down. Mostly older folk and families with very young children - before the school holidays. Lovely to see the little ones paddling and playing in the sea. All our beaches appear to have strict dog bans this year, so appear to be fairly quiet at the moment.

A bit cooler here today (although still glorious)  thank goodness as we had a busy day. OH worked ceaselessly all morning in the garden, cutting back and clearing. He resorted to using the sprinkler as everything looked so parched. I finished the unpacking and did 4 loads of washing. All dry - the ironing is another matter!! Hairdresser arrived at lunchtime and gave us both a much needed haircut. I then went out and did a bit of gardening, went out to the caravan later to fetch a  few bits we had left in there yesterday and took my cordless Dyson to give it a good  hoover. More watering in the garden this evening. I think I am going to resort to taking a bucket in the shower cubicle whenever I have a shower as it is amazing how much water you can collect which we can then use in the garden.

Enjoy your trip to Norfolk Bakers2 and hope your son has a great birthday celebration. The weather looks to be great.

OP unfortunately we have too much light pollutionto enjoy tge night sky but I will download the app in hopes - thanks. I see that they are recruiting extras for Danny Boyle's new film at Gorleston beach. Will you be applying?!

We love that area DEBSC. We holidayed there for many years when our children were young. We stayed at a small hotel called Pink Heather in the Sterridge Valley near Berrynarbour. We met the same families every year and used to go to Putsborough beach most days. Such happy times.

It seemed like a long cross country journey today to get home, Cambs, Beds, Bucks, Oxon, Berks and then I was actually quite glad to get on the A303 past Stonehenge and could see the obvious signs of test drilling for the new underground route.....frown (maybe they could put the proposed Heathrow extension out as far as Stonehenge then everyone could get a good view on take off...?wink)

We got the cat home early. He was very cross with us last time and meowed all night to go out so we're hoping he has had enough time to explore his estate and get a bit tired in the process before night falls...? Probably not. The RSPCA didn't tell us he could meow for Britain!

Our builders have delayed by a day, arriving 7.30 am Friday instead. Good, that's just the grandson for the weekend then and we seem to be back in the swing of things. Ironing and shopping awaits. Fingers crossed the visiting dog is staying at home till next week......

Glad you've made home safe and sound Brue, it must have been a hot one travelling though. We've glad that we came home on Monday just before all the really hot weather came.

Enjoy your trip to Norfolk, B2, where are you stopping?

Another hot day here, probably even hotter than yesterday, so another early start for me, cleaning the caravan. Managed to get about 2/3rds done, in 3.5 hrs, which just goes to show how dirty it was after our last trip, before it got too hot and exposed to the sun. Will hopefully finish it off tomorrow morning, before we head down to the doctors for our annual BP etc check-up. Another red sky tonight with very little cloud.

Glad you are home safe and sound brue. It must have been a long hot journey. I hope you have a quiet night with your cat. Our 2 told us off very vocally for about 2 hours yesterday! Well done on your caravan cleaning nth. I only managed the interior this afternoon.

Woohoo - we have booked Barleywood for next April. It seems a long time ahead but needs must with that popular site. We have never stayed there before and we are really looking  forward to it after so many recommendations.

Much hotter here today, high 20's not often we get that.cool

Morning spent washing, 3 loads, food shopping and paying a visit to my sister and BIL, they look after the house for us when we are away and take my car for a wee drive etc.

Afternoon spent in the front garden, OH cut the hedge between us and our neighbours (again) its their hedge but the lazy so and so's never do it, so sad to see what previously had been pride and joy of the elderly couple who had lived there since 1952 go to what is now a bl**dy mess of grass and weeds. They ripped out all the flowers, shrubs and bulbs and just grassed the whole garden.

We have a fairly large 8ft holly bush, just plain green. Never really liked it as it just gets out of hand, so today I took drastic action and lopped off all the lower branches and made it into a tree. I then got the clippers onto what was left and shaped it. Hope it will turn out ok and recover, if so I will then be able to under plant it with something interesting.

More gardening tomorrow but it will have to be in the shady bits of the garden as I've just seen the forecast and tomorrow is to be even hotter 30 - 32c cool

Hope it is cooler than that on Friday,as its our Grand daughters 'Grand Day' parade at school,(think smaller version of trooping the colour) all the children (young adults) will be on the school playing fields in No 1 uniform of red jacket, kilt and glengarry, accompanied by the schools pipes and drums. The last thing we want to see is them fainting on parade frown would love to be able to post photos on here, must try it again undecided is it better to use a camera or a phone or doesn't it matter, I do have a programme that can re-size photos.

It's four in the morning and I can see dawn breaking outside the caravan window and what looks like a cloudless blue sky. Perhaps the start of another hot sunny day!

We did all the things we had planned yesterday.

We drove  our Smart car into Worthing town centre and parked in the multi-storey car park above Marks and Spencer. We found a space on level 7 and went downin the lift, through M&S and the market outside. There was a long queue at the green grocers, so we went to the bank first, paid in the money and then re-visited the greengrocer where we bought some vegetables.

We also visited 'I REPAIR' phone shop and bought a cover for my new phone so that the screen doesn't get scratched by my keys when inside my pocket! That cost me £12.99 which I paid by Tesco Club credit card which will earn me one more point!

Then we went for a walk on the pier. The tide was in and the sea was a deep blue. There was a nice cool breeze that helped to reduce the heat! We found a bench there and sat to watch the view across the sea to Brighton and the white cliffs in the distance.
