Thanks, cariadon. That's a nice way of looking at it!

At least I don't get charged National Insurance but my employer still has to pay the employer part of it which shows up on my payslip. I'm in the 20% tax bracket so at least I get the benefit of 80% of my earnings but will it stay that way? There is talk of taxes going up, something to do with necessary extra funding for the NHS, I heard!

I'll be working 18:00 to 22:00 tonight and lovely weather for it and no doubt a lovely sunset whilst driving along!

Back home now, so we only caught the start of the better weather before leaving Arromanches for the ferry. We tried visiting Juno beach but couldn't find a spot for the MH, hence doubling back to Arromanches. I expect TG pinched the last one. Eleven different stops in 21 days did make it seem a bit frenetic though. The originally planned four week trip would have made it a bit more relaxed.

Had  a  cracking  good  day  at  Kelsall  Steam  Rally  thanks  to  Malcolm's  taxes**  wink  but  seriously  it  was  a  gorgeous  rally  and  better  attended  than  it's  been  for  years.  I  assume  everybody  has  the  latest  techy  stuff  allowing  them  to  record  footy,  cricket  AND  the  F1  Grand  Prix  for  later  viewing,  sans  those  blooming  ads  naturally.  Just  hope  all  those  little  'uns  had  copious  amounts  of  Mega  factor  sunscreen  applied,  nary  a  whimper  from  them  tho'  and  no  raised  parental  voices  either.  smile

We are staying on an ACSI site at Rauzan, France (1753 in the book) we just picked it completely at random as it was on our route.

Unfortunately caravanning will never be the same again for us because never ever will we find a site that is so beautiful.

Located in wonderful grounds with views of a derelict castle, abundant trees, huge huge grass pitches and a  perfect small swimming pool.  Wifi is free and also the obligatory TV area for the footie.

All this for less than 16 euros per night.

So you'll be selling the van when you get home then?

Sometimes sheer chance is wonderful.smile Our best site this holiday happened to be one I hadn't heard of before finding it on the internet the day before arriving there.

Homeward bound after a great holiday. Will arrive in Hull tomorrow morning (icebergs permitting) and then back to reality.

It certainly has been Goldie. We're the far side of Kendal from you at Selside. Bit hot for walking far but we managed one, going over to Longsledale and back. Heard a cuckoo again today as we did yesterday.

laughinglaughinglaughing not guilty CY we did however cycle to Arromanches yesterday. Really enjoyed our couple of days in the area.Glad you got home safe, you certainly covered the ground. We took a little longer 15 sites in 7 weeks.

Arrived at St Claires (Neufchatel en Bray) just as they open after lunch, 3 units already there, felt just like being in the ukwink all the 3 of them had reservations so no problems there. We managed to get 1 of the few pitches not reserved, by 15.30 the site was full and only 1 space left on the aire next door.

Ferry home tomorrow from Zeebrugge frown bet the garden is a jungle.

Had a great 10 mile walk along the valley and up to the top of High Cup Nick on Saturday. I parked the car at Dufton walked to the valley and along the valley floor then a scramble to the top and walked back to Dufton along part of the Pennine Way. A most enjoyable four and a half hours.

    Nice photo, R2B.

Yesterday evening, my wife went to the karaoke at the Railway pub in Lancing whilst I was at work. She enjoyed it more this time because everyone was in celebratory mood following England's 6-1 win against Panama in the football World Cup! She said some of them sang out of tune though!

I finished work on time at 22:00 having done the last delivery to a customer in Shoreham. It was a £15 cash order. The customer wanted to pay with a £50 note. Drivers are only given £15 float so there was not enough in the float to give £35 change. So I used my own money to give the change. Otherwise, it would have meant going back to the shop to get the necessary amount of change and another journey back to the customer. Then he gave me £5 back as a tip!

When I got back to the shop, the manager said that I shouldn't accept £50 notes as the customers know this from the web but the customer told me that was all he had. So I said to the manager that the customer gave me a £5 tip after I explained to him that I only had £15 change in the float, so the only way I could give him the necessary change was by using my own money! The manager said that if they haven't got anything smaller, to ask them to phone the shop and make a card payment.

So a bit of drama at the end of my shift! Like I said to the manager, I got a £5 tip, so I didn't do too badly out of it! So he agreed that the customer was nice to give me such a generous tip!

Got back home, caravan stored (until Thursday, next trip) and car unloaded.  On the way home there was a caravan in a lay-by, looked as though it had been opened up can opener (available at Huskies store) .

Good on you for sorting out the £50 note drama Malcolm, but be careful. I think a lot of places don't take £50 notes because at one time there were an awful lot of forgeries around. I know when I helped in a Saddlery owner refused to take them. We did show at least a couple up as forgeries! Are they the plastic type nowadays like £10? Or still paper like £20? Good tip though!smile
