What are you all up to

The monthly installments are only part of it, there is the £5k (?) at the end to own the car plus the amount you have to pay to pay off the existing PCP.
You have to find that money somewhere, even putting it on an interest free credit card does not mean that the cost does not exist.
Plus of course the depreciation on the existing car is huge, so you are losing a lot there.
It is the overall picture which is important.

The vans we see doing deliveries are, as I said, modern and reasonably compact, and will be a world away from what you tried out in 2002.
We see them up in the Highlands too, delivering to remote rural areas via single track roads.
Next time we are there when Mr Tesco comes, I will ask the driver how he finds the job and the vehicle. He always has a smile, seems happy in his job, so it cannot be that bad.

Why should it bother a delivery driver dropping of an order, the refuse and recycling can do pickups along a whole street not just one house
We have at least seven diferent grocers stores doing home delivery where we are so the residents and other drivers accept a couple of minutes "delay" because they appreciate it might be their delivery next time
Ps all the drivers seem happy with their lot

I love this forum, what with Malc’s positive outlook & love of life, your love of Edward Lear JV it makes for a really good read👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻😊

Why do you think it will be dark when you deliver? Many/most deliveries will be in daylight.
And drivers get to know addresses and routes for repeat customers.
Our drivers (on Asda orders about every two months) are always pleasant and helpful and seem to enjoy the job.

When I did it, they asked me to work from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. and it was dark at that time. Customers who are out at work in the day prefer deliveries in the evening.

I’ve been a bit lax with paperwork over the past few weeks. Mostly keeping on top of it, but slipping behind on filing (on the computer and the physical stuff) which has been let slip.
So today I made a concerted effort and everything is where it should be. For now.
Tomorrow we are off on a Midweek Break. At last we have found someone that we can trust as a Relief Milker. She will never be on her own, either my husband or son will also be working. But to try it out we really need to go away. It is difficult to sleep in when farm work is going on around you. I don’t mean the noise, but resisting the temptation to get involved.
It was suggested we book a cheap hotel for a couple of nights. In the end it’s not cheap hotel, but a very good deal at a good hotel. Too good to ignore.
So I’m charging up my Kindle and looking forward to catching up with books I’ve downloaded. And switching off the alarm clock!

Have a nice time, Goldie!

No, I never would either☹️

Have a good time Goldie, unless you leave the farm you cannot really have a break, the sound and smells draws you out to the farmyard.
Brue, glad you managed to get out. This bug/ virus leaves you quite weak afterwards.
The day is getting longer, we notice it in the evenings, so we will soon be out in the van again, family commitments have kept us at home since November. Son and his girlfriend is moving to Brighton on Sunday, so will be spending time there, might be on the same Site as you Malcolm.

Well the credit card took a hit, but we purchased the sound bar and a bass unit. The sound bar only weighed a few kilos so it was not too bad carrying it back to the car, but the bass speaker weighed a ton. At least Meadowhall was fairly quiet and we could park close to the door. All set up now. Units talking to each other and to the internet etc. Fairly simple to set up, but as is normal a little more information on what was supposed to happen would have been useful. We will have to be careful with the bass unit though, otherwise the neighbours might think there is an earthquake.😖

That has happened already and I managed it, Milothedog. I was ill in hospital last year in January. Also in September, I was off work for six weeks due to a fractured wrist. In December I paid a few large bills: my wife's visa application cost over £3000 which I paid, I also paid the seasonal pitch fees in full, a total of £1910.

You forget, Kj that the government is giving me £4500 subsidy towards it so that I'm getting a £21,500 car for £17,000.

Glad to hear it, cariadon. Maybe, we'll get to meet you!

If I worked for Tesco delivery in Durrington, I would still have the same commute and therefore still have to spend on fuel to do it. So the overdraft would remain the same for the time being. The overdraft will come down once I get the Smart Electric and stop having to buy fuel and also when I get occupation of my seasonal pitch and no longer have to pay the present rate of site fees because of it being already paid. At the moment over £100 a week is going on site fees and £80 a week on petrol. The £180 a week saving will wipe out the overdraft in about 14 weeks.

In what way do you think seasonal pitches are intended to be used?
According to the rules, you are allowed to spend up to 21 consecutive nights on a seasonal pitch during the season. After that, you must go away for a minimum of two nights before re-occupying your seasonal pitch. After the 48 hours away you are allowed to re-occupy the pitch for up to a maximum of another 21 nights.
Last year, I was away from my seasonal pitch for about three weeks because I was booked on the National rally at Sandringham and then on club sites whilst touring the west coast of Scotland. So I was paying site fees for holidays as well as the seasonal pitch fee. Having said that, I've not made any holiday plans for this year because the priority now is to get the overdraft down and reduce the debt on my credit cards, not that it's a problem; I still have an excellent credit rating, so would be able to borrow more if needed, but for my own peace of mind. It's my way of thinking that puts the brakes on my spending because I believe available credit is not a bottomless pit! There's nothing wrong in borrowing money as long as there's an affordable repayment plan and as already indicated, I do have such a plan! I keep an excellent credit rating because I make sure everyone gets paid on time in accordance with their T & Cs.

Furthermore, it is necessary to be aware, that in our situation, two nights away from the seasonal pitch every 21 nights means payment of the full site fees at another site for those two nights, so additional revenue is still being earned from us in that way.

Use your home address and save more, surely to reduce your borrowing you could manage to share facilities for 2 days, you would save on pitch fees, plus fuel in the shogun as you would only need to use your other vehicle. Win. Win all round .
The Martin Lewis money programme was very interesting tonight,

So Gatwick to work next winter, 30 miles. Car up to half empty, depending on conditions.
Recharged before work.
50 miles at work, much in the dark and car almost empty again.
Visit to charging station required before journey back, or sleep in car if none available.
Best of luck with your cost saving Malcolm. Personally I would stick with a vehicle that can be filled in a couple of minutes.

The Martin Lewis money programme was very interesting tonight
As I was watching the programme last night I had an image of Martin Lewis discussing MM's finances - ML just gave up in despair!
All of the advice given to MM should only ever be posted in the "pointless" thread.

Or maybe in a separate thread from this one. It is getting terribly tedious. I skimmed through this thread last night and again this morning and there is no other topic of conversation.
