Oh Tricky how awful. How did you find out? This could be one occasion where transcripts of recorded conversations could be useful. Thank goodness you had no reason to call on the insurance in any circumstance and as you say you didn' get picked up by ANPR. I hope you managed to sort it. I don' suppose you x n x ass the weekend away as relaxing and refreshing 😲.

I'm currently trying to sort our house insurance as thanks to a comment on here I checked out continuous unoccupied days. We exceeded it last year by a couple 😲😲. Our insurers for the past 40 odd years don't extended for a supplement and they cover very little if you exceed 60 days! Renewal due end of next month so my head hurts listening to the covers of each policy and comparing costs.  I'm down to a choice between 2 now, both fixed quotes, so another few days should have it sorted. But your tale concerns me greatly!

So glad you are pleased with your investment. I'd  quite forgotten ice on inside of the windows, hot water bottles and bed clothes that pin you to the bed. Well vague memories as we of similar ages reminisce 😃

Triky thats just outrageous on your insurance company, would be changing that immediately.  You know what would have been said that you were at fault cos you didn't check!yell

B2 hope it all works out, we are insured with LV, (other companies available) for past 4 years and the T&C's, price and service has been first class.

Dull but dry start to the day, Mrs One making daughter a 40th Birthday cake which we will deliver later.  Daughter, SIL and grandtwins off to Cyprus for a week tomorrow, first time on a plane for Luke and Sophielaughingcool

Oneputt we've been with LV for 40 ish years. Fabulous service and decent costs and cover BUT 60 days is max continuous unoccupancy then cover reduces to no water, glass malicious damage etc for any of the time away even if you have people check house or our son, not a his permanent address, stays a few nights which he often does. We've been been ok before as son his been at home,  and still living at home, on our extended trips. Goes to show you have to be ever vigilant.

We were burgled when we lived in London almost 40 years ago swift settlement making it far less stressful and a couple of accidental damage claims since. Sad to have to change as my motto for insurance is how well claims are handled  with not premium cost.

Happy birthday to your daughter, where does the time go? Our granddaughter,  similar age to your grandtwins, if I recall correctly, adores flying apparently so hope they are the same. Mind you they've not done NZ to UK as yet 😂  but on long haul the staff seem great at taking the young ones and giving them a tour from what we've 'e witnessed. Hope they have a lovely holiday and ask them to bring some sun back please!

It is normally on the little "stream/drain"gravel path between the railway and where the eel route has been installed before you get to the bridge

Trying to start the painting this forenoon, could not find our roller, but while searching for it found an old tin of woodstain that had leaked.......bit of a mess to clean up now!

Concluded that our roller had been hijacked, so had to go to DD's to fetch it.  Just finishing my coffee before I get started.

Thanks JVB. I'm not sure where you mean? We watched and waited by Bluebell Bridge where Mr H has seen it a few times.

Start at now Overton (Ferry Meadows)station and walk towards Orton Mere, where the tarmaced path splits take the left hand gravel path that follows the water course ,the kingfisher is normally in that area around that area of trees/undergrowth on the opposite side before you reach the eel gate, also normally one or two heron,

If coming from the direction of the lake passing the two hides turn immediately right after crossing the bridge

    Happy spottingcool

Trip to Wilco this afternoon, to restock the birds food ready for winter. Wilco are very good value for all the things they like. Much less expensive than pet shops, or even Tesco.

At least it's from a worthy supplier , but a tad expensive , example

    peanuts RSPCA, 1.8kg-£8.75.......my price ....1.8kg -£4.50

table seed, RSPCA, 1.8kg-£4.99........my price .....1.8kg-£2.40

but as I say ,at least the profit is going back to a good cause laughing

Another dry day!! We left Rode at 10:00 this morning and were all set up and sitting down to lunch at Pardon Hill CL, Bishops Cleeve by 12:40. This new site is certainly living up to expectations, already. Good walking, quiet, views....just what we want.

This morning we have an appointment with my wife's visa solicitor in Brighton to submit all the documents required. There's just one document still to come regarding her Level A2 English language exam result, which we won't get until around 11th November but at least we have all the financial documents done relating to the £18,600 income threshold. The onus is on me to prove that I have sufficient overall income to cover for her maintenance and support in UK. Pizza Hut earnings plus pension receipts will hopefully cover this requirement as my wife has no earnings of her own. The address requirement is satisfied through a tenancy agreement with my cousin of indefinite stay.

The visa application fee is £935, plus health surcharge of £500, solicitors fees paid so far have cost £1440, exam fee was £150. So total cost is coming to over £3000. If successful, she will get a stamp in her passport allowing her to remain in UK for another 2 years and 6 months before having to go through this process all over again! If unsuccessful, there'll be a right of appeal which will involve more costs.

On the plus side, I'm going to be earning a huge number of points on my Tesco Credit card Clubcard for such a huge spend! Perhaps I'll get enough vouchers for a holiday on the Isle of Wight!

Is it not possible for her to apply for citizenship? Then you would not have to keep repeating the exercise. Do you have to use a solicitor, or could you do that bit yourself? It's certainly worth messing about with a bit of paperwork to save that sort of money.😀

If you are both relying on pizza hut to make up the total then it is not just the cost every 2.5 years but, more importantly, what happens when/if Malcolm is unable to do such work or such work becomes scarce?

I can think of other problem scenarios.

The colour was virtually the same, just a freshen up, so I was hopeful.

As it happened, the bit that looked patchy yesterday evening  was just a shadow, and in daylight it looked fine, apart from a bit between 2 switches, which I must have missed.  Now touched up by brush.

Most of the walls will be covered again by the new units and the curtains, so It seems I have got away with only the one coat this time!  sealed

Time to start on the new units.

The road gang have now reached outside our house with the new pavement laying. The kerbs are being lowered, the entire footpath dug up, a concrete layer, then a tarmac layer. We expect to be able to use our drive again Friday or Saturday.  They have done the other side of the road and are now about halfway along on our side. They'e doing a very good job. It takes 48 hours for the kerbs ones to set, some householder just move the cones and damage the newly laid pavement 😢

One thing that strikes me about driver behaviour is lack of patience as they pass the equipment and workman. They speed past, won't giveway to oncoming traffic, to the point of a stand off 😲.  Also with the lower kerb and no parked cars (we are on a bus route and parking is half on half off the road - marked by parking bays and permits required) vehicles private and commercial take to the pavement to pass each other rather than give way, using the pavement as part of the road for driving  😲😲😲.
