Presently trying to find a suitable battery that will not eat up an excessive amount of the payload, but still be suitable for operating the mover, suggestions welcome.@KjellNN is the van's charging system capable of charging a LiFePo4 (lithium) battery, as that would supply loads of power with low weight?
0 -
We almost put the canopy back on our garden swing yesterday @KjellNN but then I checked the weather forecast. Storm Dave, not likely to be too bad down here, but it could get interesting up your area.

I've come to the same conclusion @Takethedogalong - so my first job this morning is to get the Thule canopy wound in. Although it's well secured with Peggy Peg anchor plates and the storm straps - with forecast winds of almost 50 mph here, if nothing else, it's going to be very noisy. Not conducive to a good night's sleep!🙄

Why do you need a separate battery for the mover? I think that most, if not all, movers are powered by the standard leisure battery in the caravan?
0 -
That is where the leisure battery is Nellie, only the one battery. Don’t know if the under the floor position ( in the Cadiz in the middle opposite the door) is only in the Unicorn range?
If anyone has a Bailey with the battery under the floor, what battery are you using?
0 -
@KjellNN is your van brand new? If so, is it now the norm for new not to have a battery supplied? Or is the supplied battery not up to using the motor mover?
0 -
it is new, new vans have never come with a battery included in the price, but even worse, not included in the MRO as delivered!
We are going to be very tight on payload, user payload is only 154kg , and we are ready losing 32 kg, I think, for the mover, which is an essential item to get the van onto our driveway.

Having set OH on to the task of finding a lithium one that will fit in the space, she has come up with a few, but most are not in stock. She has however found a 105Ah one that is, so just going now to check with our dealer that it will be suitable. Weight is only 8kg apparently, so a great saving.
We do not need such a big battery as in the old van as the Cadiz is single axle and not so heavy, so mover will be in use for less time.

Given up trying to sleep - kettle's just boiled! Getting absolutely hammered by "Dave" at the moment - not much shelter here from the SW so we're rocking about like mad - despite the E&P hydraulic rams. Hope everyone else is OK. Thank goodness I brought the canopy in this morning😮.

Happy Easter everyone. I know I've posted it before but this creation makes me smile. It's standing up well to the winds.
I hope everyone is safe after the winds in southerly areas and storm Dave further north. A friend in East Ayrshire said they'd had a flurry of snow..…
Still breezy here, but bright and cheerful. Certainly blown away my cobwebs 🤣. Don't know why I put hairspray on 🫣. The bluebells are coming on a treat. Not easy to capture on a mobile phone camera, this one's got an interesting log. I stayed the sheltered side of the wood so a ditch between me and the wood. Too blustery to go down the other edge that leads to the footpath through the wood.

There were numerous vans on the Southport site yesterday as I drove past and some on Victoria Park next door as well. I think the latter is a pop up site, perhaps for the Camping Club. I hope that they all had some form of heating last night as it is really cold here in Southport due to the very strong, cold wind, although if you are inside a van in the sun today, it may be nice and warm, as it is in my little conservatory. It is such a shame as so many places, especially animal sanctuarys and charities, rely on good weather at Easter. Apparently it is going to be far warmer by Tuesday. Sod's law!

The storm was not as bad here as proposed, a bit windy, but we have frequently had worse. DD has a camera that shows her garden and can see that the cover on the garden furniture needs to be secured back in place at one corner, but everything OK otherwise. I will fix that tomorrow when we go down to feed her budgies and unmould the latest concrete casting.
This morning we have had heavy rain, followed by hailstones and snow, then sun and now more rain, at least the wind has gone!
Battery for new caravan now ordered.

Just been upto local village boot sale quite a lot of tables but not much we liked although I bought a pretty patterned milk jug so now soaking with a drop of milton in it all of 2 euros, there was a plant stall had a good look round some good plants but all in full flower which means a shorter time in the garden, very warm today could be 24C this afternoon as it was warm in the village and tomorrow 27C first time today with sandals on for this year.
Did wash my car first thing and OH did the Landcruiser before it got too warm then I had a go at cleaning the outside of my little greenhouse no glass just polycarbonate looks better now.
Have friends here tomorrow for lunch and will have that outside under the caravan canopy as she likes sitting in full sun so we will be under the shade area.
Enjoy the rest of the Easter weekend folks.

Beautiful day here, but we are having sun, showers and wind rolling at an hourly rate. Too cold in wind for major gardening, so I have been in greenhouse sowing seeds, pricking out seedlings, re potting some stuff. My Sis bought us 15 different Tomato seed varieties, so getting these sorted. Going to have plenty of plants to give away to family and friends to raise themselves. I adore oven roasted tomatoes, so will be doing lots in the Summer, and OH makes a fabulous tomato sauce for pasta dishes. I am back in now, crochet calling. Our yarn group is making bunting to yarn bomb the 14th century pub where we have our group meetings. Inside and out. OH is in garage, Jeep Wrangling. He found a bit more rust the other day, so he’s sorting this at the moment. Once new parts arrive from USA for brakes, it won’t be far off going for MOT.🤞He’s decided to replace anything that he thinks looks a bit worn, so it’s going to hopefully be well restored and problem free for next few tests. Looking forward to taking it to a few shows later in year………

Hope you and the others on the CS survived the storm @richardandros you certainly did right taking the canopy in yesterday before it's arrival.
It was quite windy here over night but not as bad as we have had in the past, and there appeared to be no damage done locally thank goodness. It has stayed somewhat windy all day, however the sun has been shining for most of the time, apart for a couple short sharp showers. I cleaned the inside of the caravan today in preparation for our next outing after the Easter holidays when site prices fall and are less busy.

Just reading about the retirement of Scillonian III, in her last year of service after 50 years. My one and only venture onto her will stick in my memory forever, she certainly lived up to her nickname of the “vomit comet” that day. I could barely walk after nearly 3 hours on her, rest of my family were fine, and it was a hot sunny millpond calm sea. I staggered off and straight into the office to buy a helicopter ride back, nothing would have got me back onboard. Fabulous day on St Mary though, and somewhere I hope to visit again, but not by sea.

I’m trying to be useful while everyone else works hard and I’m stuck in a chair. OH has brought me down a laptop I last used about 18 months ago. I didn’t like it then and I doubt i will like it now. It’s plugged in and the power light is on, but that’s it. Maybe I should pick up my Kindle or phone.

A positive that you feel well enough to actually think about helping @Goldie146 I much prefer a laptop, (or an iPad), but the key for me was finding something comfortable to rest it on, so that I could type easily. You have to like the set up as well of course, I’d hate to use anything other than a Mac of some sort these days, but depends on programmes you use. It’s a beautiful day here, if wrapped up out of wind, I hope it’s the same for you in your beautiful part of the country. Can you get outside at all?

Hi everyone. Just to let you all know I'm still here and reading all posts as they come in. Thank goodness for the email system that sends me a copy of everyond's posts.. 🙂
I've just not had the time to post. It's been chaotic here - to say the least...
Sadly, Carol's mum passed away last week, after months of 24 hour care, mainly from us, and occasionally from Carol's brother and sisters (who live quite a distance). She was due to move into 'retirement living/ sheltered accommodation this week, but it just didn't happen - she seemed to be looking forward to it too.
Still so much to do... as well as 'normal' day to day things. Still only managed to get out in the caravan for two short outings since Christmas - that's really unusual for us.
No doubt we'll see how things pan out over the coming few weeks.
All good wishss,
David

@DSB I was saddened to read of Carol's mums passing. Sincere condolences to you all. I fear a busy time ahead with all the sorting. I hope you manage to get away in your caravan - it could just be just what's needed for recharging moments amongst the sorting and paperwork.

David @DSB - sorry to hear about your MiL - condolences to all the family at this very sad time. At least you will have some comfort in knowing that you and Carol gave her the very best care that you could.
What a change in the weather! Wall to wall sunshine here today and virtually no wind😊. We even had lunch outside the van. Broke my cardinal rule (or was it broken for me?) and we went out on a BH - just to Thornton Le Dale. I seem to remember 'we' made the same mistake last Easter. It was heaving - with queues to get into the few coffee shops there are. We did eventually manage to find somewhere, however.
One thing I have noticed is that in the few days we have been at Thornthorpe - the beautiful trees around the site have suddenly started to come into leaf. Most of them are over 100 years old and before long they'll be standing there in all their magnificent splendour😀. Spring seems to have sprung!

Sad news @DSB. Sorry to hear of it. Hope you can get some order into your life.
Storm David quite fierce over our way. A very disturbed night but thankfully not too much damage done.
Able to get out for a walk this morning down at the River Dee at Flint. Went to see if the Sand Martins were back and there was a small spearhead of them. Sun was/still is out but a chill breeze.
A week full of appointments for us this week.
Not only the Scillian that retired @Takethedogalong but also the Royal Iris ferry across the Mersey after 67 years of service. I've used it a few times in my life so it's sad to see the end of an era.

We arrived home this afternoon, after a lovely few days away in Herefordshire. Site was well sheltered so we hardly noticed the storm but a tree had come down on the footpath we used to walk Polly so had to turn back. Came home via the motorway route, much prefer the drive through the Cotswolds but decided that being a sunny bank holiday Monday it would just be too busy.
We visited Hereford Cathedral, very impressive, also a very good cafe all dog friendly too. Picture is the Lady Chapel.
Condolences @DSB sad news.
Now have a couple of things to sort out with the caravan, it's now 9 years old so parts are starting to wear out! Luckily Trevor likes a "project" 🤣
Hope everyone has had a good Easter.

I'm very sorry to read of your MiL's passing @DSB please accept our condolences. Wishing you all the best for the weeks ahead with the necessary tasks involved. I hope you and Carol will be able to get a break, even a short one, in the caravan, you will both need it.
Didn't do too bad with Storm Dave, although it was extremely windy on Saturday evening, there was no damage fortunately.
Easter Sunday coincided with our wedding anniversary; we decided against going out for a meal as we thought most places would probably be really busy; instead we visited Rufford Hall in the afternoon, which wasn't too busy actually. And so we'll go out for a meal sometime next week and still have that to look forward to 😁 had a walk along the canal at Rufford as well, and were wished Happy Easter by 2 different people walking along the canal; never had that happen before.

We have had a lovely Easter. The family arrived from N.Ireland on Wednesday so as Thursday was a fairly pleasant day we spent a good while in the garden either pottering or sitting and having a cup of tea and a chat. 16 year old grandson not too keen on being outside - I think they are allergic to fresh air at that age! On Friday a very good schoolfriend of NI son who was over from New Zealand to celebrate is 50th came over to see us all. It was lovely to see him again after so many years. On Saturday local son and DIL came over for a catch up with his brother and on Sunday we all went to Peckover House for a family outing - 12 of us. We wandered around the gardens where there were lots of games for great grandson to play and then had coffee and cake in their cafe. The weather hasn't been too bad. Although it was very windy on Saturday night it wasn't as bad as in other areas. The family have now departed for home. It is wall to wall sunshine here today but still a bit of a chilly breeze.
Lovely photo of Hereford Cathedral @HelenandTrevor
