Useful info @DavidKlyne and I do appreciate how frustrating it is not to be able to do what were, previously, simple jobs. Although my arthritis is nowhere near as serious as what you've been through, it does stop me doing a lot. We also had a clip come off a curtain track which meant the curtains wouldn't draw easily and I'd kept putting it off for weeks. It literally just needed clipping back in place - a 2 minute job. It took me at least half an hour with me dropping it repeatedly and I think the air turned blue before I had finished!!
I find, increasingly, I'm having to turn to our lovely neighbours for assistance😀.

No, I have just done a search, and our local AgeUK doesn’t offer handyman service. However, I have found someone with good reviews (plenty of them) via Checkatrade, so going to investigate. OH has too much on to get involved in doing everything Mum needs, although he does offer. I need a qualified gas fitter/plumber as well, but they don’t like doing small jobs, they like to take on full refits, big projects. Frustrating.

@vbfg - more than happy to help and I'm also starting to get a bit sceptical about the value of Which reviews. I subscribed last month, specifically to help me decide which stairlift provider to select. I chose one of their 'Recommended Suppliers". To cut a long story short after three call-outs for faults in that first month - the last one being when it failed to park correctly at the top of the stairs and left us trapped upstairs for 12 hours or so - I rejected it under the Consumer Rights Act. They are coming to remove it on Friday and have promised a full refund - not that they had much option! Now I have to start all over again.

Yeh, as I said, Age UK don't do the handyman service everywhere. In fact, they don't seem to do much of anything in the SW. Cornwall Council runs a Handyman Scheme though which could prove useful.

An appointment to see the surgeon today. I was very apprehensive about the results of my bone scan but first thing she said was they were ok. That was after she had given me a hug as I walked through the door, such a lovely woman, all Drs should be like her. I now have to have another different scan but mostly precaution she said. So all went quite well, so quite a relief. I had a wait, due to her being so busy, sad for her and all the cancer patients she is having to see. She explained why I’m having some problems but it seems it’s just the way it is, she said it’s because a lot was done during my operation, not much they can do. And then another hug when I left. The NHS at its best.
On to Tesco for some shopping and a spot of late lunch, but told hot food between 30 to 40 min wait, we only wanted a jacket potato, so we settled for a coffee and a muffin.
One of our granddaughters passed her driving test first time this morning, so she is well pleased with herself. That’s two of the girls driving but neither of the boys are showing much interest.

Glad all went well @DEBSC well done to the girls as well. Tell them not to ferry round the lads, they need to get sorted🤭

TW I think I did add a caveat in my post that you need to check what your local Age Concern offer. Perhaps if the local authority in your area have a similar service then Age Concern don't feel it necessary to offer the same service which I suppose would be joined up thinking and I am sure they would direct people to that service? Cornwall Age Concern do offer a gardening service which I reckon a lot will find useful? There could also be a bigger difference in offering such services in a less densely populated areas?

I see the Cornwall Council Handyperson Service does not undertake gardening so you may well have a point about joined up thinking. The Council and Age UK could be working in tandem and it all adds to the need for checking everything.

Didn't realize that @Tinwheeler - thank you.

Another sunny morning that deteriorated quickly, heavy rain later. Yesterday we also had some very heavy showers and even hailstones. We had to dodge the hailstones when OH went to her first “vitality” class at our local leisure centre. Apparently she did Ok at it, nothing painful, but was quite tired afterwards. She has booked to go again next week.
Finished sorting stuff to go back into the caravan and have loaded it all into the car as we are meeting tomorrow with someone who may be interested in buying it, a trader. Would be good to get it sold soon.

Weather has improved at last and getting warmer some gardening today and more to do, did some shopping yesterday morning at local supermarket and ended up by a container of our of date vegetables which they do at the store every Monday well 2 packs of Mangetout peas, 2 packs French beans a handful of potatoes and just over 3 kg of carrots well all dealt with most have been frozen and have made some carrot and coriander soup also in freezer there was some pass their best so in the compost bin.
Eye test for me on Thursday a bit different to UK you have to see a Opthalmologist first then take results to a suitable place like Specsavers to get new glasses and we have to go every 2 years hopefully no change.

Kidney Nurse first thing. Went in and she said straightaway that I needed a full boost of Iron, mainly as she couldn't distinguish my palour from the grey walls.😱 Back home to a welcome coffee then off to the MiLs Surgery for her COVID jab. Much more civilised than last April as queues of 75+ y.o. snaked around the outside of the building in hot sun. Most had some form of walking aid and a helper. This year this particular clinic was solely for over 90s and each one given a 15 minute slot.
Afternoon spent food stocking for the short trip ahead and putting the last of our personal stuff in.
We're expecting rain tomorrow but will be glad to get away.

Hope that you miss the rain tomorrow @Wherenext and that you have a relaxing couple of days away.
Pleased to read that there was nothing of concern with your scan @DEBSC hope you have a similar result from your next one. Congratulations to your granddaughter on passing her driving test.
We have had the gas mains in our street renewed and we still have a partially filled hole in our drive. We thought that they would have completed the job by now and just have to hope that it is done properly as we will be heading off shortly on our next trip.

Another day of mixed weather, and very windy.
Pleased to say that we have now sold the old caravan, so no need to worry about extracting it from our son’s yard. Two strapping lads manhandled it with some help from me, and soon had it hitched up, so no need now to get any help to do it at the weekend. Money in bank until needed for the new van.Stopped off at DD’s on the way home to unmould the last concrete casting, so should be able to put her BBQ shelter in place in a few days.

Good news @KjellNN. A weight off your mind.
Dropped the van off at a train station and went into Liverpool. Weather was a bit iffy but we had a good look around Walker Art Gallery. I managed to lose some membership cards from my phone somewhere in the city. Fortunately no money cards. Have to work out some of them. One was CAMC card. OH has her own in her bag
Had lunch at Bluecoats Art Academy. Back to van and off to Wirral site in a real downpour which fortunately stopped when we arrived. Lovely sunny late afternoon. We both fell asleep in the warmth. Think we're knackered.🥴
OH spoke to her mother. The care lady we like only does late Wednesday and she's due at 8 tonight but unexpectedly turned up in time to cook MiLs tea before disappearing. She came especially for MiL. Isn't lovely when you find a caring carer.

@KjellNN Good that you have sold the old van, one thing less to worry about. No doubt getting excited about the new van now?

Guess you are relieved to have sold the old van @KjellNN and can now turn your focus into other matters, especially picking up the new van and getting away in it.

Yes, we are glad it sold quickly, and as you said, one less thing to worry about.
We pick up the new one at 10.30am on the 28th, so not long now. Will mean an early start from home, must be a lot of things we need to learn at the handover!
Certainly the boys are excited about it, I just hope it tows well, having been used to the stability of the twin axle, and that the beds will be comfy.
No outings planned as yet, need to spend some time working out what we have enough payload to take, and where everything will fit. Also still have a few new bits and pieces to purchase, and insurance to sort out, OH will deal with that.
DD now has to act on towbar installation, then get in more towing training. I will take her out in our car meantime so she can get started as soon as possible. They have a week away booked for early/mid July, so want her to build confidence before that. She will only need to tow to the site, we will pick up the van when they are ready to depart, and start our trip. Not sure where to as yet.
They may also do a long weekend somewhere nearer home in June, just to learn the ropes.

@KjellNN I appreciate that you are very familiar with the ins and outs of the working of a caravan, as we think we are too, but I am a little surprised that the dealer you are purchasing the new van from have not offered you a free night or two on a site close to them for you get familiar with all the different, and new, features in the Cadiz. It is one of the requirements we ask for whenever we have changed our vans. It makes it much easier to sort out anything that doesn't operate as one expects without having to return to the dealer from a distance.
We were able to load up and get away this morning in the dry. Apart from a couple of holdups, for roadworks and a RTA, we had a trouble free tow to our regular stopping off CL at the start of Scottish trip, missing the Fuel Protest that was due to take place at the M6/M74 junction. We had a choice of pitches as we are the only unit on site and got set up in the dry, but have had a few heavy showers in the afternoon, one of which I got caught in on my walk.😣

I know that imitation is the finest compliment but there was no need to copy my loss in this respect @Wherenext 😁😁 Hope you are able to obtain replacements quickly, even if they are of the digital variety. Enjoy your stay at the Wirral site.

I don’t know of any sites near to our dealership Nellie, apart from possibly CAMC Strathclyde Park, which you would have to pay us to stay on due to the road noise, though there may well be one or two. From home, they are only 27 miles away, though it does take about 45 minutes , longer if heavy traffic, as there are lots of traffic lights before we get to the M8, and some small roads once we leave the M74 at the other end.
We have downloaded the handbook to take a look at all the new fangled stuff. From reading on the internet it seems the most difficult thing to operate is going to be the remote control lighting! Water system is quite basic, no on board tank to deal with, just hope the provided shower head will give a decent “scoosh”. Does not seem to be the trigger type, so if we do not like it we will change it.
Alde heating is not complicated for us, though the 3030 does have a few features we did not have on the 3010. Fridge has auto selection of fuel, so as long as that works as it should, we should be fine. ATC we have not had before on a caravan, so that is new. Sonos (?) speaker we know nothing about!
We plan to use our Gaslow cylinders, one at a time, in the new van as they are both almost full, so we will buy the parts to convert them to Direct Fill rather than fixed, as there is no sensible place to fit an external filling point.

You were very lucky that they agreed to take it away and give you a refund as one of the main problems I find is that once a company have sold a product, they are simply not interested in providing an after sales service, no matter how much the product was! We read on here the many stories of people who have bought often new motorhomes or caravans then find it is very difficult to obtain redress when something goes wrong.

Sunny morning with a bit of a chill wind when we stepped out. Had a lovely 7 mile walk, good job I had my iron infusion.
Site only about half full. We've enjoyed the van and the break. We both fell asleep after coming back from our shower today. Should be recharged now.

Been a rather uneventful week, just the usual work and household chores although have managed a couple of walks with Polly in the sunshine.
Heard from son in MK that Grand-daughter will be going to their first choice of school in September, it's only about 5 minutes walk away too.
After OH fitted new brake pads and drums on the caravan last week it is now packed ready for a few days away from tomorrow, weather forecast is looking okay & we are also hoping to meet up with youngest son. Going to be staying on our first camping and caravan clubsite after joining this year.
Hope all goes well with the caravan @KjellNN .
Enjoy your trips @Wherenext & @nelliethehooker

Hope everything works well when you get the new van home and you don't have to go back to the dealer to get it sorted @KjellNN
Enjoy your trip away @HelenandTrevor and that it stays fine for you.
We had a night of very strong winds and heavy rain so quite broken sleep. Thankfully it was dry when we arose and we've had sunshine most of the day but the wind is still quite strong. Walks today were around parts of Hoddom Castle estate past the caravan site, but we avoided the river path as it was flooded in places with Annan Water in spate.
This is the highest we have seen the river here.

Agree @vbfg - although I like to think that the letter I sent them gave them no option. Although I was outside the statutory 30 day period for rejection - I did point out that s.20(6) of the CRA added on any waiting time for a repair to be completed, to those 30 days - of which, in my case, there were 6. So I think they realised I meant business. On top of that, I also had my bank ready to apply 'chargeback' under the Consumer Credit Act but, hopefully that won't now be necessary - but it's still an option if they renege on the agreement.

Just catching up. We emptied our old van this week, decision has been made, we don’t have the time to spend on it. OH going to go through classic type sales, someone might want to finish it off, or use it as a small “Vintage” type static. Failing that, we could give it to Coldwold Owners Club. End of a very very long era for us, we have owned it since 1996, and have had some fabulous times away in it. It owes us nothing.
Hope all those away and going have a nice time.3
