Thanks @Francis we might just search it out at the weekend when we are at Maidens.
Thats a fine looking free @milliehull and grand photos of it too.
We have had a mainly fine day with just the odd short shower. Packed up in the dry, and after an easy your tow arrived at our next CL, setting up during odd spots of rain. We are the only unit on the site and it is very quite, being a little off the beaten track.

@Francis &/or @KjellNN I could do with a bit of route advice for next Tuesday please. We are heading from Maidens near Maybole towing our caravan to Bridge of Allan. Is it better to use the M77, M8, and M80 around/ through Glasgow to join the A80 or M77, A726, A725, M74 and M73 to the South and East of Glasgow to join the A80 further north east? The distance looks to be about the same and time taken is not a major issue.

@nelliethehooker I agree with KJ above the first route would be my choice we’ve towed on all those roads probably hundreds of times and found them ok the M77 is much improved than it wa many years ago just be aware that the M8 around Glasgow can get very busy especially during rush hour but once cleared Glasgow the roads are generally quieter. Enjoy your trip up our way

Love the photos @milliehull.
Haven't done a great deal these last few days mainly as we've been helping our neighbour who sadly lost her husband 2 days ago. No children and she's an only child so the support group is small. His passing was actually a blessing for him.
In other news we had an assessor around from the Respite care home to see what MiLs needs are. Advocaat and lemonade seemed to be at the top of her list but fortunately we had a better list and the assessor was really good.
Sorry, haven't really caught up with other posts.

Thanks @KjellNN and @Francis it is good to have advice from members who have towed the routes. We hope to be heading round Glasgow mid morning and so avoid the rush hour traffic.
Sorry to read your post @Wherenext your neighbour will appreciate any support you can provide I am sure. It looks as if you have found a really good Respite Care home for your MIL.

It has been a bright sunny day but with a chill wind when one was out in the open. We spent the morning at NTS's Threave's garden, firstly doing the woodland walk before visiting the Gardens themselves. After lunch we had another walk, this time around the park by Carlingwark Loch in Castle Douglas.
A few photos from Threaves
The Heather Bed
Magnolias and Daffodils
The new Chinese Bridge and stream
A puzzle, what's this flower?

@nelliethehooker the plant is Trillium also known as the Wake Robin which I have not heard of but found the details on the RHS website a very unusual plant.

Thanks for all the photos folks. We're off up to Northumberland at some point during the summer @heddlo When we're up that way, we usually use South Meadows Touring Park at Belfort. Already booked it for the summer. We also often have a trip out to Holy Island too - and a visit to Lindesfarne Mead.. 🙂

Lovely photos. I am way behind with news catch up, but sending best wishes to all. There are Trillium plants at Harlow Carr in the woodland garden, very unusual.
Bike ride for us today, round Fairholme.

@heddlo theres a very nice cafe at Beal, just before you go across the Causeway to Holy Island. It has a swish campsite as well.
2 -
Thanks @heddlo. If you go to Holy Island, parking is just before the village, on the left. However, if you have a disabled badge, you can drive up into the village and park in the 'coach car park'.... this is a bit easier...

We love that area too Holy island is wonderful we have even went a few times and let the tide cut us off there so spent the whole day there walking and just admiring the scenery Highly recommend the Lindisfarne Inn for a meal it’s the pub just on the A1 at the road that takes you down to the causeway lovely meals at a decent price

Another lovely sunny day but very cold with the NE wind, however the solar panels are performing well.
Started to reload the van for our trip to North Norfolk on Friday. We will have to return very briefly for our St George’s parade which is being held at the Caister Life Boat shed
Hope everyone has a great weekend

Plenty of sun today but still a cold breeze which intensified as the day wore on. Just food shopping this morning. MiL had a lunch date with friends so we cleared half of the drive and did some back aching weed removal on the block paving as well as some border weeding. Oh, how I live for that🤣 Probably do the other half tomorrow.
Enjoy your break @Oneputt.
Great photos @heddlo. Love to able to get back there.

Thanks for the lovely photos, @heddlo it is an area we like, and hopefully we will get up the way later in the year.
Enjoy your trip away @Oneputt
@RedKite and @Takethedogalong cheers for the info. I have now found it, Trillium albidum, and it is also known as "white toadshade". There was also a purple one which I find is T cuneatum, the little sweet betsy or whip-poor-will flower & bloody butcher. I wonder where these names come from?

We have had a lovely sunny day, warm too when sheltered from the chill breeze from the north. We visited Threaves nature reserve to see if we could see the Ospreys. From the main hide we saw the resident male perched close to Nest 1 where the female was hunkered down. Didn't manage to see the Peregrines on the castle but from the Stepping Stones hide saw the other pair of Ospreys along with Goosanders and a Great White Egret. Further walk after lunch before dinner this evening and maybe spotting the Lyrid meteor shower shortly.

Nice bike ride for us yesterday, Fairholmes car park, right round to where tarmac road ends, and gravel tracks begin, so a good 8 kilometres out. It’s fairly traffic free, so a good safe ride. We had our lunch overlooking Howden Reservoir, huge heathland fire high up on top of other side of water, fire engines everywhere. It was very windy, so this was fanning the flames all the time. We rode back same way, wind nearly brought you to a standstill going back. A lovely day though.
Looking down Derwent Res towards the twin towers at the Howden Dam Wall. Spot the racing fire engine on the extreme right.
Acres of heathland ablaze, this is just part of it.
More of fire, it was slowly creeping down towards the tree line, not far away as we set off back. There were fire crews from both Derbyshire and South Yorkshire working together to put it out.
Have Historic Scotland got Threave Castle back open yet @nelliethehooker? It was still closed from Covid lockdown when we were up there in 2022. Shocking state of affairs with some of their historic sites, some seem to be just left and closed to visitors.1 -

Yes it is now open, but with restricted access while the Peregrines are reading their young. There were visitors going over as we walked past. There is still some scaffolding in place but it should shortly be removed.

Pleased to read that you had a good day out on the bikes @Takethedogalong such a shame about the fires, one wonders how it is able to spread so much considering the amount of rain that has fallen in that region.
We had a good tow up to a CS close to the Ayrshire coast. The site is full now with 2 more units arriving after us. We again had frost on the car when we got up but the sun put paid to that, although there was still a chilly breeze. Up here it is a good bit warmer and the ground is much drier too. A hazy sky last night stopped me from spotting any meteors but it looks clearer tonight so fingers crossed. There is still a band of orange/pink out to the west after a lovely sunset.

Text message this morning to bring the M/Home cushions to the upholsterer on Monday morning for the reupholstery to start. We'll get the loose upholstery for the Hab area back first, and will then arrange a second booking for the 2 Captain's seats to be reupholstered. This gives flexibility to ensure that the M/Home won't be in dry dock when the Rallies start - well, that's the theory 😁
The major advantage is that the Upholsterer is less than 2 miles away from home, so we don't need to drive down to England and sleep in a secure compound before twiddling our thumbs for 1-2 days to get the job done.

Nothing of any great importance has happened here this week. On Monday our new fridge freezer arrived and we are very pleased with it. It was a very quick and efficient delivery by Curry's. They took the old fridge freezer out, put the new one in place, levelled it and told us to leave for an hour to 'settle' before switching it on. On Tuesday I was on duty as usual on the Cathedral shop where we had lots of visitors to the Titanosaurus which is massive. On Wednesday our eldest grand-daughter and youngest great grandson popped over to see us which was lovely. He is now 8 months old and a very cheerful and smiley little boy. Yesterday I went to see a friend with her birthday present. We hadn't seen each other for a while so it was nice to have a catch up. This morning has been a chiroprator appointment for me and this evening OH has an appointment for a CT scan at 7.15pm. They are obviously trying to catch up with their waiting lists!
The weather has been bright and beautifully sunny all week but with a very chilly breeze - which dried the washing wonderfully. Today the breeze has dropped a bit so it is a bit warmer. Our wisteria is coming into bloom which is a couple of weeks earlier than usual.
Lovely photos @nelliethehooker I always enjoy seeing your photos. Concerning to see the wildfire @Takethedogalong As you say the wind made it worse. I hope they managed to put it out. Lovely photos of Northumberland @heddlo. We love that part of the world. That is quick service from your upholsterer @marchie I hope you are pleased with the results.

Didn't start off great this morning. Looking out of the window in the kitchen I saw a Crow eating the innards of something. Decided to clear it up after breakfast. 20 minutes later when investigating the matter the carcass had disappeared. I like a Crow that cleans up after itself.
The rest of the day improved. We sallied forth on the bikes. Headed to Hooton train station and the adjacent Wirral Way cycle path. First time we've been on them in over 18 months so kept it to a reasonable distance, just 11 miles. Smashing day.
The only station platform in existence on the old railway track. Makes a lovely pit stop. Cafe always popular. More photos from there.
Remember those?
There's a nice section of the track that had some lovely flowering Apple blossom.
Adjacent to those trees is a "Fairy Garden". Makes a lovely lunch stop. Some photos from it including a Wild Camper.

Great to see you got out on the bikes as well @Takethedogalong. Lovely photos. But worrying about the fires though. Doesn't bode well for the Summer.
