What are you all up to

@RedKite its a Handley Page Victor, one of the V Bombers. Used to re fuel Vulcan Bombers in its latter days, we used to see them at Finningley Airshow, along with the Vulcans. Apparently, they were used during the Falklands War to keep the Vulcans flying. That’s what the strange probe over the cockpit is, the refuelling nozzle. I think this one does still fire up, they have a special day when they fire up the working jets. There was a Canberra inside one of the hangers, along with all sorts of things like Buccaneers, Harrier, Lightning, Meteor, Vampire and a fabulous rebuilt Halifax from WW2. This is absolutely huge. It’s a really interesting Museum. You can climb inside a Dakota, and a jet cockpit.

Brings back a few memories as my father was in the RAF for 22 years and we were always around planes. Even later in life I very nearly ended up working in a Commercial brokers whose principal owner was a former American WW2 bomber pilot on B25s, I think that's the right bomber. He flew a lot of sorties in the last couple of years of the war. Always made for an interesting lunch.
Thank you all for good wishes for MiL. Her carer who looks in on her when we go away has just made a detour from work to bring her yet another card and some flowers.
She's been very touched by the consideration shown to her via cards, telephone calls and visits.

Firstly in answer to your question @Francis we do still have "Daffy" the MG she hasn't been out much lately but hopefully as the weather improves.
Happy Birthday to your MIL @Wherenext hope she has had a lovely day.
Had a get together today at the insurance brokers where I used to work, one of the partners is finally retiring at 78, it was really good to see lots of the old staff and the one's still working there. Walked home in lovely warm sunshine.
Your trip sounds lovely @Takethedogalong especially the train ride, enjoyed the photos too.

Birthday greetings to your MIL @Wherenext It sounds as though she had a really enjoyable day.
We have had a mixed bag of weather these past few days. Although it was forecast to rain on Saturday, it didn't. It was bright and sunny and very windy. I managed to get lots of washing dried outside. I was a bit worried it might fly off the line though. Sunday was throughly grey, miserable and cold. Monday started off dry and bright so I washed the bedding and put it out on the line and then it threw it down with rain 😫I brought it all in and put it on the airer and then the sun came out again. I couldn't be bothered to put it all out again so it stayed on the airer. Today has been warmer (or less cold) and nice and sunny this afternoon with just a gentle breeze. Last night I went with daughter and 16 year old grand-daughter to see The Magic Faraway Tree at the cinema. It is based on the books of the same name by Enid Blyton. I read and loved the books, then read them to our daughter who in turn read them to her daughter. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a lovely 'feel good' family film.
Enjoy your trip away @richardandros It looks as though you had a good trip away @Takethedogalong with reasonable weather. Great photos. I loved the idea of the afternoon tea on the train. Some years ago we had lunch on the Great Central Railway to celebrate OH's 80th. It was marvellous. As you say very comfortable seats in first class, great food and wonderful service.
Son and grandson coming over from NI tomorrow for a few days so we are all looking forward to that.

Super photos of both aeroplanes and boats, thanks @Takethedogalong and @richardandros There have been lots of jets flying around here today, as RAF Leeming is a training airfield for NATO pilots.
Please pass on our birthday greetings to your MIL @Wherenext glad to read that she has had a most enjoyable day.
Enjoy your stay at Malton @richardandros you will have some poignant memories of previous times you have stayed there I am sure.

It has been a much warmer and sunnier day but still with a breeze, just great for getting the washing dried outside. Returned to Snape for a walk through the village and another visit to the Castle Chapel for OH to see it. Then onto Thornton Reservoir for our lunch and a walk around it.
We have seen a profusion of Daffodils this year, both in Cheshire and here in the Dales. This bank along the beck in Snape stood out, especially with the castle in the background.

@Wherenext happy birthday to MIL, glad that she enjoyed her day.
I spent yesterday in the garden, a bit chilly but bright. I jet washed the decking and cleaned it all down. Then planted the sweet peas into 2 large pots, they don’t seem to do so well if planted straight into the garden. I also planted out 3 yellow courgette plants into a big tub, I did add a few slug pellets (I only use them in tubs) but this morning I see they have already been at one plant.
Our eldest grandson has been in Australia for a year, we watched part of his flight home yesterday, a bizarre backward and forwards while crossing Russia. He was supposed to stop at Qatar but due to the war he had to change it to China, and then an internal flight, all at extra cost. Home safe now and they are all coming to us for Easter. I have been charged to make his favourite lasagna, he says he’s been missing it.
We went to see our granddaughter today, she is still in hospital. In a room on her own with the blinds pulled as she is still in severe head and neck pain. The anaesthetist came and talked of a second lumber puncture. They are not still sure what is wrong. Parking, like most hospitals is a bit of a nightmare.
Cooking, shopping and getting the beds ready for them all tomorrow. Five extra people staying in the house, and the dog, needs a bit of sorting, but we are looking forward to seeing them all.1 -

A.difficult day for you @Oneputt I hope you can have some rest and recuperation in North Notfolk.
Sorry to hear about your grand-daughter @DEBSC I hope they can find out what is wrong soon and hopefully get her on the mend.
Our garden help started back yesterday - hooray! He and his wife have been in Goa, India for most of the winter. They were due fly home via Bahrain but as soon as the trouble in the Middle East started they changed their minds and booked a direct flight home with Virgin for £250 per person. Out of interest they checked at the weekend and the exact same flights are now over £1000 per person!

@Oneputt thinking of you and @DEBSC at this difficult time for both you.
@Wherenext belated birthday greetings to your MiL delighted she seems to have had a lovely day.
@Takethedogalong good to read your mum looking better and you had a good break.
@HelenandTrevor fabulous to hear from you again. Glad you're still out and about and have Daffy. I trust you are keeping well and I expect the grandchildren are growing.
Mustn't do any more @'s 🤣🤣
Good to read folks are looking forward to Easter and spring, wharever their plans. We have none, other than gardening and pottering.
I've been back to the GP, well practice nurse, as I've started another streaming cold and cough..... Xray was clear, as I expected. It suddenly appeared on my NHS app after my visit 😕. Full blood test today, felt I was listened to yesterday 🤐. Still out of breath when I get to the top of the stairs and energyless..... I had ordered some good vitamins pills and vitamin D3, before I got the appointment. Time will tell.......

Oh goodness @Bakers2 another cold! I hope you feel better soon. You sound as though you are 'run down' as my Mum would have said. Hope the vitamins work and glad you got an appt at last.

That's exactly how I'd put it. The iron tonic seems not to have worked. Usually I find it good when I've had to use it.
My nan used to say it's the rise and fall of the leaf. Implying our body was adjusting to the season change.
I'll survive 🤞but I find looking at jobs and not being able to do them 🤐🤐. My OH has no concept 🙃 bless him......

@Bakers2 I know how you feel. I seem to have had some lingering kind of bug since before we went to Edinburgh at the very beginning of March. It seems to come and go, but if I try and do anything like a longer walk, or really get my lungs going doing some proper exercise, then I am left gasping. I seem to take ages getting going in the morning as well. I think it’s related to having Covid last year. That wasn’t actually too bad, although I was tired out more than anything else. The cold I had after was far worse, stuffed up and breathless. But every time I get a sniffle nowadays, I find I go very tired. This isn’t Covid I know, because I do test because of Mum, but it’s frustrating, and difficult to shake off. That said, our little tour this weekend has perked us up no end. Log chopping tomorrow, as back at Mum’s today.
We are contemplating a trip to Cornwall in May as well, so currently cottage hunting. Not going to book until very late, will check out the long term weather forecast. Will go elsewhere, chase the good weather. But it would be good to see Cornwall again, far too long since we managed to get down there.🤞

it’s my 13th day out of hospital. The District Nurse comes every other day to redress a wound on my leg. And this afternoon a Community Physio is coming to discuss my goals.
I have managed two small goals - when I am sitting on the edge of the bed I can swing both legs up onto the bed. And when I am lying down on the bed I can (almost always) sit up by myself).
My husband has been wonderful. I couldn’t manage without him.

That’s progress @Goldie146 good to hear from you. You are lucky to have a lovely family around you, and it must be so nice to be back in your own home. I am sure they will be finding lovely ways of keeping your spirits up. Take care.

Good to hear from you @Goldie146 One step at a time. It sounds as though you are making proghress. Take care.

Hi Goldie
Good to hear you are making progress, mind you when you said Physio coming to discuss goals it reminded me of all the time I spent in re-hab! All for the greater good of course😁

Thanks for the info about the pump and the steam train days out. I have had a few husbands to do jobs like pumping up tyres, cleaning cars, gardening, decorating etc, but on a balance of things, I would rather do it myself or pay someone else to do it, than go to the inconvenience of getting married again! I've bought a new manual pump so will try it out shortly.
I've been on the trains next to the Burrs and Broadway sites but I have always wanted to try the Embsay one (especially with a cream tea) and the Yorkshire one sounds really good as well. The way it's going though, will we be able to get away in the coming months at all if the fuel problem gets any worse? In latter years, we seem to lurch from one crisis to another, Brexit, Covid, the beast from the east, the Panama Canal blockage, far too hot, too little rain, too much rain, too windy and now Trumpageddon! Perhaps James Dyson will invent something which will provide easily available, cheap energy! We live in hope.
Cheers from Val

@Goldie146 Glad you seem to be making progress and you will be glad to be home

Really pleased you are making good progress at home @Goldie146.
I Packed the caravan today as we are off to Herefordshire tomorrow afternoon after work, looking forward to few days away and some R&R.
Sorry you are still not feeling 100% @Bakers2 hope you feel better soon, and yes our Grandchildren are really growing up Serena will start school in September and Austin is now 14months old, can't keep up with him 🤣
Lovely daffodils @nelliethehooker ours down here have almost gone over now.

Goodness @HelenandTrevor I cant believe that your grand-daughter starts school in September, where did those years go?! Have a lovely time in Herefordshire.

Sorry to hear that your cold has returned @Bakers2 I hope your vitamins help and the results from your blood-test helps to resolve the issue.
Pleased to read that you are making some progress @Goldie146 and hope the wound on your leg soon gets better.
Enjoy your trip to Herefordshire @HelenandTrevor we might head that way later in the year, as we've not visited there for a while, fuel permitting.
It has been a tough time recently @Oneputt getting back to N.Norfolk should help you to relax and recuperate.
A difficult time for you too @DEBSC fingers crossed that the hospital can find out the cause of your daughters present condition and they can then sort it out and she can get back home.
We are now back home after an easy, if rather slow, journey, but an early rise this morning meant that OH was able to get 3 rounds of washing done and out on the line this afternoon. The sun came out around noon and coupled with a warm wind meant that most of it dried nicely outside. Caravan all cleared out and ready for me to clean it again! Had a reminder from the caravan dealer about it's service so that's now booked for early July, after our next trip, which is mostly planned and booked. Just have to hope that there is no fuel rationing, as we have seen pumps closed off already.

We had a bit of a job getting some diesel while away, although I will qualify it by saying we did pass a couple of garages that wanted an arm and a leg per gallon! A couple we tried had run out of diesel, but it was a localised (Harrogate) bit of panic buying, lots of folks filling up over the weekend. We did get some the next day, but it wasn’t cheap. Our little MH is actually the most fuel light vehicle we own, but we filled up the Jeep yesterday as well. We do live close to good bus routes, so if things get very worse, I will use my bus pass up and down to Mum’s. I am tempted to use my bike, but it’s a severe, proper Yorkshire climb up to where she lives, and it’s not served by any cycle paths and I don’t fancy fighting it out on the roads with some of the driving assassins who operate locally☹️ It’s bad enough in a car. We will explore train rides as well, as our station is only a 20 minute walk away.

Just looked at the fuel prices at Morrisons this morning and noticed that diesel is now 32p more than petrol………why???
It was only 8-10p more a few weeks back.
Filled petrol in the T-Cross the other day, but fortunately we still have 3/4 tank of diesel in the Touareg. It has not been used for a few weeks so I had to charge the battery yesterday before it would start.

Travelled up to North Norfolk today, made really good time, traffic was lighter than I imagined. We are staying at the old playing field. Only three vans on site. Had a stroll around the lanes this evening, couple of Tawny owls harmonising. Hopefully the weather will remain fine and dry
Hope everyone enjoys their Easter break
4 -
Enjoy your stay there @Oneputt BTW are they the same two Tawny Owls that you mentioned in your previous review of the site!😀
It was another fine sunny day, but still cool in the shade. OH got last round of washing dried outside and I cleaned the car.

Hope you are able to have a relaxing stay in Norfolk @Oneputt - this week must have been very distressing for you.
Pleased to hear you are making good progress @Goldie146 - you're bound to feel better now that you are at home and have your family around you and hope your granddaughter is soon feeling better @DEBSC - this must be a difficult time for all the family. @Bakers2 - hope you're soon feeling better as well - your cold seems to have been going on for ages. I know how frustrating it is when you don't have the energy to do things.
We arrived at Thornthorpe CS, near Malton on Wednesday and finished setting up with the canopy , carpet etc, yesterday morning. It was a bit of a slow process, but we got there in the end😊. Not bothering with an awning - we'll see how we get on although I do have the small porch awning in reserve should the weather turn really wet! We had the site to ourselves on Wednesday night but were joined by some friends from the North East that we see every year - so had a good catch-up. It's expected to fill up today.
I don't think we will be doing too much this weekend - the roads around Malton are choked up at normal times - so Bank Holidays, in my experience, are a time to stay put - but that's no hardship in this lovely tranquil setting😀. Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

A day of mixed weather here, lovely sunshine alternating with heavy rain. Apparently there are strong winds due for Saturday/Sunday, which is a bit concerning as DD and family are away and they have already put out some of their garden furniture. Hope it does not blow away!
There is a sea of bags downstairs……all the stuff from the old caravan…..so we spent some time this afternoon trying to organise them and sort out the essentials, due to the much lower payload we will have in the new van. It is not going well! A lot will have to travel in the car, not a big problem , just inconvenient.
We will remove the fairly heavy table, stored under the bed so not easy to access, that will save a little weight. We will not use it, DD & co can use one of the lightweight roll up tables we use in the awning should they need to eat in the van.
Presently trying to find a suitable battery that will not eat up an excessive amount of the payload, but still be suitable for operating the mover, suggestions welcome.
