What are you all up to

Glad you're home safely @DSB . I'm not sure your journey to visit family is a lot less in time and stress than ours to NZ 🤣🤣. Except you don't need a passport, at present 😉. At least once on the plane it's only relaxing/boredom/film watching not needing eyes everywhere on the motorways... That returns on collecting hire car?
Have a good rest and enjoy your next summer jaunt.

wow is it hot again here 🥵 I am just sat inside with Mum at the moment, she’s just fallen asleep, and Sis has gone out for an hour or so. Hopefully I shall be home mid afternoon and shall be heading into our pool. We had a dip last night, but boy was it cold, not enough sun to warm the water up. Enjoying everyone’s holiday tales and photos.

Several of us are having that trouble on our phones but not other devices. I reported it.

Thanks for the site suggestions. Having had a quick look (no research) the River Breamish club site looks ideally situated, and not too pricey. Plenty of time yet, but I’ll need to figure out ideal spots to stay en route down the east coast. I thought we could finish up at Cromer before travelling back cross country. We’ve already explored the area around Scarborough, Whitby, Bridlington etc, so it narrows the choices somewhat. That said, we really liked Whitby and we didn’t visit Robin Hoods Bay, so that could be a goer. I suppose we could come inland somewhere before heading for Cromer, there’s no rush 🙂

@Tinwheeler I have experienced the same problems on my MacBook and my Android device as well as the phone. I have asked @Rowena to look into it but she may be away for the BH.

Hot here as well but there is a strong breeze blowing. Wanted to finish off the gardening so did the Tesco trip early then helped OH finish the pruning and weeding just before the Council lorries turned up to empty the bins. Haven't done a great deal else. Bit of admin, sorting out our new energy tariff for next year which is always a minefield.
Decided to start a new Jigsaw. I normally leave those until the Autumn weather forces me to but I had a spare hour.
@Freddy55 - The Breamish site is a lovely site. You'll have to travel over the hills to get to the coast but the views are worth it. You'll not be far from Rothbury and Cragside NT. Both worth a visit.

Thanks for the info @Wherenext 👍

@Freddy55 we visited Cromer last month the first time we had ever been and we had a great 2 weeks. We stayed at the Clubs Seacroft site and found it excellent it’s got a nice outdoor pool and a clubhouse which was good to its nice to have somewhere to have a pint in the evenings the meals were good too. We walked in to Cromer a few times and also visited Great Yarmouth and Sandringham from the site highly recommended it although it did seem to take ages to get from the A1 across to the coast.

@Freddy55 Incleboro is a bit of a marmite site. It’s steep and quite a hike from bottom to top. It’s also horseshoe shaped. I hated it, others like it.
In terms of things to do, I don’t think there’s much to choose between Incleboro and Seacroft. They’re not far apart.

@Freddy55 when we had our caravan we stayed at both Incleboro Fields (only once) and Seacroft and much prefer Seacroft. Incleboro Fields was too hilly and uneven for us but others like it. Seacroft is easier for a walk into Cromer and nearer to the bus stop if you want to catch the bus anywhere (very good bus service). West Runton where Incleboro Fields is situated is a lovely village but quite a hike from the site. As @Tinwheeler says it is a marmite site.
We set off with son and DIL to go to Anglesey Abbey today but when we got there it was mayhem as the car park was full and they weren't letting anyone else so there traffic jams, people trying to park on grass verges and arguing with the poor people on the gate so DIL who was driving did a quick about turn and we went to Wimpole and had a really lovely day. The walled garden especially was looking very good considering the very dry summer we have had. The dahlias were lovely. I hopefully attach some photos

If you perhaps would prefer a CL or two @Freddy55 there is a highly recommended one just across the river from the R.Breamish site at Powburn, Brandon Ford, which we will be visiting, all being well, next month. Another place of interest close by is Chillingham Castle, the home of the famous White Cattle. As for the journey South down the East of the country there is the club site at Clumber or the C&CC's new one at Nottingham.
Good to hear that you got back home safely @DSB even if there were delays. Enjoy your forthcoming trip to Pembrokeshire.

Before we set off today we got the lovely news that we have another great grandson. Our eldest grand-daughter gave birth to him just before 5 am this morning. 3 weeks early but weighed in at 7lb and both he and our grand-daughter are both doing well. We couldn't be more happy or more proud.

It has been another hot day but thankfully there has been a gentle breeze again to give us some relief. More of the same for me, weeding and walking Flyte. He can't settle in the house, or caravan for that matter, when it is as close as it has been today so I have had to take him out for numerous short walks to try and settle him.

@Tinwheeler & @milliehull , thanks for the info regarding Incleboro, most helpful. Seacroft it is then👍
@nelliethehooker , just checked that CL, Brandon Ford. It looks like a stunning location, but unfortunately we prefer sites with facilities. Thanks anyway 👍 We did actually stay at the Nottingham site last year, I think it had just opened? Nice little site. Clumber looks a good option. I’m thinking we might return to Pocklington so that we can visit Burnby Hall gardens, we could also visit York from there, haven’t visited for ages, and there’s a bus 🙂 It also breaks up the journey en route to Clumber. From Clumber I’m thinking maybe Peterborough or Cambridge for a few days before heading on to Seacroft.

@milliehull congratulations on your new great grandchild. 7lb is good for 3 weeks early. Enjoy the cuddles. OH is impatiently waiting for a great grandchild but as only two of our grandchildren have relatively new boy friends I’m telling him he must be very patient, maybe for a long while yet. My brother, who is only 7 years younger than me has just heard he is to become a grandfather for the first time, so we are lucky to have 6.
Very hot here yesterday, for the last few months I seem unable to cope with the heat, whereas I used to love being out in it, probably old age. I did take a short walk by the river, before we sat out under the sun brolly and relaxed, a bbq in the evening. I noticed last night how the nights are beginning to draw in, then this morning I was sitting out eating breakfast surrounded by very many flying swallows. Looks like they are preparing the young ones for their long flight.
We are going to Charlecote today for a wander for OH and hopefully a good walk for me, while he has a coffee. Then to the garden centre next door as I need a couple of coloured plastic pots to divide some hostas. I have some lovely pottery pots but have given up buying more as I find heavy
pots very difficult for us to move around the garden now, plastic ones are much easier, age again.3 -
@Freddy55 Ferry Meadows Club Sites only 10 easy minutes off the A1, close to Peterborough. It’s around 90minutes from the Clumber Site using the A1, so a very quick hop. If you are thinking of Northumberland before Xmas, be aware that there are still roadworks on the A1 near Darrington, they can be bad for hold ups.

Congratulations to all @milliehull - lovely news.
I've just been over to the caravan to install a IKEA bin on the door of the caravan. The existing bin is something of a pain to get the bin bags on - there is a plastic band at the top, which you have to (sort of) weave either side of plastic 'lips'. I've used the same holes and screws - just drilled holes at the correct place into the back of the IKEA bin. This bin actually lifts out.... don't know if this is useful for anyone one here...
The bin is a little bigger than the original and more substantial.... all ready for out trip to Pembrokeshire tomorrow..... 😀😀

CCongratulations @milliehull on the safe arrival of another great grandson. I hope it isn't long until you meet him. I trust your granddaughter is well too.
LLovely To read folks news. Lots going on here this week. Well until 1 cancellation at 0700, unwell friend, so was able go fit in essential trip to shopping centre. Jyst had lunch then off for reflex. Whilst lunching tomorrow's event cancelled as they now have hot water issues and can't be sorted today.
@DSB door. In looking good, enjoy your trip. Best to present a moving target 🤣.
@Freddy55 Ferry Meadows is a good stop. Sadly peterborough, like many towns and cities, not what it was. Plenty of history, beautiful cathedral - see @milliehull . Huge country park adjacent with cafes. Nene valley railway nextdoor. Cycle or walk into Peterborough. If you like history Fotheringay nearby, queen Mary imprisoned in the castle, beautiful church, the cathedral is the burial place of Katherine of Aragon. Beautiful Stamford and Burley House very close. If you're going to stop there ask for suggestions. Drive across the Fens into Norfolk. Not a fast road, but nowhere has a fast route to Norfolk, might as well start on their pace of life as you go.
Right must shift..

What on earth is going on with this forum? I thought the Notification box had started working again but the only notification was to congratulate me in becoming a Forum Participant! Not only that but I've lost the 4 bits including photos at the bottom of the comment box, which has shrunk in size!! I also have a preview box next to the "Save Draft" and "Post Comment" boxes.
Can some kind person report my post to @Rowena (first time ever my red name tag hasn't come up) so that it can either be rectified (hopefully).
Edit - when posting the the red name tag appeared in the post as you see it!0 -
Done that, WN.
Incidentally, this version of CT allows us to report our own posts.

Hiya @Takethedogalong . It certainly won’t be this year, as I said, it will be next year, probably May/June. It’s usually around this time of year that I start to think about where we’ll go for our ‘long trip’ away. Ferry Meadows is certainly a possibility, but I’ll see what a search for suitable CL throws up. Thanks for your input 👍

Yes @DSB , very useful. The flimsy ‘D’ ring on ours broke a while back and the thing just flops down when it feels like it, irritating. Our local IKEA has them in stock so popping out tomorrow to pick one up👍BTW, would you happen to know what size drill bit is required?

Hiya @Bakers2 . I have a vague recollection that we stayed at Ferry Meadows many years ago. I also seem to recall that we visited the cathedral, it has a large square paved area in front? It’s probably unlikely that we would visit Peterborough itself, but rather the surrounding area (towns/villages/countryside) I am tempted though by the Nene Valley Railway 🙂
