Yesterday a contractor came with his big machines and got in our Wholecrop (peas and barley undersown with grass). The ohotos don't show the steepeness, but it all came in safely.

A lot of rules have since changed to catch folk out for tax purposes.
Just pruned the two buddleja shrubs and sorted out my dried lavender ready to make some lavender bags, it is a bit warm now for more gardening so other chores to do.

Just tried to post but lost it and got logged out too, strange.

We're on a short coastal break, nice THS on the coast with farm land around us, much like home but everything baled up. A good coastal breeze, the sea is warm but has the quality of soup, however I might be tempted if it gets too warm.
Heard a nice little radio broadcast from Rufs home area this morning, all about favourite beaches.

Goldie DON'T EVER throw those papers out! Sorry for shouting.
You could always chat to your local archives and offer them, as a loan, they could be sorted and stored in optimum conditions, free of charge to you 😉. Researchers could access them if you choose, could be very useful for dissertations and thesis. You can retain the copyright too.
I so wish there was a personal message system on here 🤐. Don't use sellotape or similar and keep in a constant temperature as best you can, thus it's great you don't have a loft 😀. Old papers and parchment can be read by anyone, we had stuff going back to the 900's in Essex - sadly it related to Devon, but once you'd got your eye in they could be read. We had/have DVD's, which deteriorated badly after 30 years, nice pink skies on those for the new town of South Woodham Ferrers. Some fabulous sound recordings of local dialects and music as well as reminiscences on reel to reel and cassette tapes that deteriorates too even if the equipment still works.
Hot hot here

Beautiful photos brue.
It's hot hot here. Gardening help in, I'm not helping at all - unless you count staying out the way! He says he's damp in places he didn't know had sweat glands 😱. Work requested has been to work in the shadiest places possible.
We are now picking lovely Victoria plums and supplying cul du sac, tomatoes and grapes - not offering those yet. Grapes have done very well on sheer neglect, very small and sweet. Just dropped some to son and Co when I went to their village butchers and a farm to buy eggs. Minor panic as I learnt this morning one guest tomorrow, the child has dairy allergy but sorted and I'm calm now.
Saw a huge plume of smoke in another village ?field? 😱. Son and family at MIL farm Sunday having dinner late afternoon. Saw a combine in the field behind theirs, said look ****** combine, only just got the words out when they saw it reverse and smoke. Driver out safely, local farmers around created firebreaks and one bought bowser. Fire brigade there in 15 minutes, luckily for our family it was going in the opposite direction, combine gone and at least 30 acres . DIL very reluctant to get combining again.
That said since the really hot weather I have seen dog ends, and haven't before, on footpaths in crop fields harvested and unharvested 😱😱😱 and yesterday I picked up 2 cider cans in a stubble field 🤬🤬🤬🤐🤐🤐
Right lunch break over, a few gentle jobs in the cool - if I can find either.
ABM the door doesn't quite go to the wall, and carpet thickens as it goes that way so plaster should be safe 🤞.
It's these days I miss working in archives, constant 16c dressed for winter regardless of the season!

Hot and getting hotter here. This is it……the pool goes up this week🥳🤩

Go for it Tda I hope I can go in ours in the next couple of days as the water level is a bit low and not allowed to top it now due to water restrictions.
Now 36.8C on weather station and tomorrow has dropped from 40C to 39C we will see, off shopping tomorrow so hope it will be cooler in shops and will find a spot on the way back in the shade for a picnic lunch.

Can I join the queue for the pool please TDA

You will have to make a booking Millie🤣 Neighbours are intrigued, family hovering, dog has gone into hiding (he’s a wimp, only does dirty water🤣) Can’t believe quality of it to be honest, has fittings for a filtration system. Dipped a paw earlier, think I can do it without wet suit. OH has got diving tariff sorted, I get extra marks for low displacement as I go in, but will lose marks if it slops over sides🤣🤣

Its a clever blow up design, where the water supports the sides to give some depth, so takes no effort at all to set up. I have had a paddle around tonight, actually warmer than I thought it would be. Sun will heat it tomorrow, few more degrees, ready for a full immersion. No diving though, no where deep enough. It will be floating mainly🤣

Great photos, CS. I have only ever been up once and we had very little view, but it was around midnight when to got to the top!! T'was fun getting down in the dark.

After all the shennanagins yesterday with server errors I have not had time to catch up with most of the posts, but will do later in the week, hopefully.
Yesterday we went back to the car park at Bowes Museum and walked into the town to visit the castle. After a picnic in the museum grounds, on our return, we intended to park down by the river and have a walk along by the Tees. However all the main roads through the town were in gridlock because of diverted traffic following a major accident on the A66 earlier. We managed to wind our way through the back streets and avoid most of the holdups to get back to our site.
We had seen, from around 10::00 on the morning, many cyclists passing by along the road in front of the site towards Middleton-in-Teesdale, and numbers continued to pass all day and even when it had got dark. It turned out that they were some of the around 2000 on the London/Edinburgh/London unsupported cycle challenge, 1500 km+, the whole distance to be completed in 5 days.Left BC today and am now on another new to us CL at Knayton. Although we do like the fine weather we hope it is not too hot over the next few days so that we can get out with Flyte without him getting overheated.

Glad to be able to get on here this morning -- Finished the first book in the "Thomas Covenant " series yesterday then came for a little light relief but " ESS MAINT " by 22.35 so looked for a little light reading on my Kindles already read section -- another 'series' book in the Kane & Abel series "Shall we tell the President ". Not as hard as T.C. books, but memory tweeking none the less.
At least I will have something to read in the shady times later on BUT first of all un-curdled porage followed by a serious strimming of the nettles, so off to find a bowl ...................

Great photos of Snowdon Corners. Have been up three times, once with great views like yours. Must have been a hot climb though. How busy was it, I ask because you see queues of folks going up there. Have done the railway up as well, a long time ago, that’s a good experience in itself, very interesting.
Pool heating up nicely, I will be in there this afternoon👍

Beat you into the water TDA, I had a swim in the Bristol Channel yesterday, well not a proper swim as I wore some beach shoes which filled up with water and they felt like lead weights.. big mistake. OH later informed me that our beach shoes were hanging up in the shed at home and I had picked up a bag containing an old unknown pair. Well it was the warmest water I've been in for a long time and I just tried to ignore the mud colour!

We are nice and cool in our house, even in this weather. The front faces north, and with the woods right behind us, at midday the back is shady with the sun behind the trees. Double doors open and a little breeze. Most of the garden is shady so even nice to sit out if we want. The problem is that as the sun dips our house gets little sun in the winter as well, and with the fuel bills rising and without even any sun to warm the house we are going to be forking out even more.

With the way water levels are going I'm surprised that you could manage more than a paddle Brue. Rather you than me though.
Dropped the car off for service this morning. We'll set off to Chester in an hour and call in at Currys on the complex nearby for a few bits and pieces. Need a Freesat box or two having finally cancelled Sky after a bit of trouble getting them to agree, an Iron and a Breville Sandwich maker (maybe!). Credit Card lying down in the shade at the moment preparing itself for some heavy work later on.
Feels strange, no gardening today!

Ha! I paddled last night. 😁 Just had lunch, give that an hour to digest, then I am in. I had wrong beach shoes on last year in Cornwall, couldn’t walk properly on pebbles, got pounded by a big wave or two. Bruised but survived. I think OH is looking interested as well, has to be warm enough for him, legacy of his heart attack, cold water shock🥶
Just driven past a leaking pipe in road, been like this a week now, going to contact Yorkshire Water again.😡

Wow! Pool has exceeded expectations, just had a lovely hour and half splashing around. Just about deep enough for some gentle water aerobics as well. OH enjoyed it as well.

Glad you have managed a dip and your OH, just too hot here as we did not get back from shopping late afternoon but did stop for a short picnic break on a road we have not been on before and found a nice shady spot on one of the tracks a nice change instead of main route and found somewhere to go later in the year when weather cools down a circular walk around some local Dolmens and looks interesting.
Well our friends rang this afternoon to say no boot sale this coming Sunday as weather could be too hot or a storm is brewing so we are glad not to do it as it can be a long day so possibly will do one in our village next April will be a bit cooler then, also got another pair of friends coming over tomorrow around midday for my OH to sort some more paperwork out for them and then a light lunch.
I see we might get 40C on Friday and a warmer day on Saturday now just hope this storm comes on Sunday.

Thanks, and to MH and DSB too. We started at the southern ranger YHA car park and that route was very quiet. If you wanted a photograph at the summit you had to queue but those just wanting to touch the top you could bypass it. The route down to Llamberis was quite popular.

Hottest day of the holidays so far and great day at Llandudno!

We love Llandudno we were there last October while staying at Chester even although it was October it was warm and we sat at the little pub at the end of the pier on their outside seats and had a drink. The great Orme is a favourite too. Hoping to get back down that way with the van in October

The pool sounds great, TTDA. We could have done with that yesterday.... I'm sure it was better than our somewhat stressful visit to Bantham Beach in Devon.
Don't get me wrong.... Bantham Beach was lovely, but..... Mr Google told me it was dog friendly. Mr Google didn't tell me it was only the bit right across the sand dunes over the other side by the river. Walking on roads, or even a track, is one thing... walking across a sandy desert in the midday sun, with chairs, drinks and dog, etc was a bit more than we bargained for...! The car park was not the cheapest, either, but we eventually got to the dog friendly bit! The roads to reach Bantham Beach were 'something else'... and really not designed for so many vehicles. It must have took us an hour (each way) to travel the 3 mile single track road with passing places which gave us only inches (or less) to spare. We managed it - just - and the car is still in one piece.... however others were not as fortunate!! There was a 'coming together' just at the entrance to the car park as we were leaving. One car had demolished part of the wall and a bench, and there was another car which looked rather bashed. It didn't look as if anyone was hurt, but there were a couple of police there taking photos on a really small camera... There were several folk further on up the lane out of cars, checking for damage, whilst thinking what to do next.... On the way back, just as we got to the main road, we met a recovery vehicle just about to go down the single track.... best of luck, I thought - pity to poor devils behind, still trying to negotiate a way up that road!!! The stress of it all was actually exhausting.
I'm glad we went, but I don't think I'll be going again anytime soon - well not in the summer, anyway....
David
