    How very sad Millie.

I don't suppose there's a lot you can do but be there for your friend. My best wishes to you.

Finally a tick on the bucket list.  Despite 28C we decide to walk from Lark Rise to Candleford.  Due to poor signposting the walk increased from 8.5 miles to just under 10 miles.  Too cream crackered to post much more to will write a story with photos in a few days

Will look forward to your story Oneputt, I loved the book and the area where it was set. Hope you have a good night's rest!!

Millie so sorry to hear about your friends, I'm sure they are in kind caring hands but it's very sad for all. My thoughts are coming your way.

I had a surprise phone call from a friend, she lost her husband (we used to meet up with our vans) and then had a stroke herself. This is the first time she managed to find the phone number and do the call, her memory had improved a little although we did a sort of guessing game over family and place names when we chatted. I had to struggle to remember all her family names etc (bad enough with my own expanded family) but we got there in the end. We haven't been able to speak due to her memory loss so it was good to hear her, looks like we might manage to do a bit more in future. It's been sad as it has been like losing both of our friends, (like yours Millie from many years back.)

Glad to hear you had some time out TDA.

Hope TGs family get settled into their new lives, a big change.

Now waiting to see if we're in the amber zone or not for thunder storrms! We're on the edge of the map indicating the zone.

Yes, dreadfully sad. My OH lost his beloved older brother in similar circumstances, heart rending for those left behind, he was only 58. As WN says, kind thoughts to all concerned, sometimes life can be very cruel.

Our weather hasn’t been this dramatic for years Brue….Red, Amber etc….. it’s usually for snow or wind as well, so all this heat is taking us Brits well out of our usual comfort zone.

We have a day of rain to look forward to tomorrow…..apparently! I will only believe it when I hear it pounding on the roof, we have had all sorts of promises lately, none have materialised so far.

So very sad, Millie but, alas, as we age we become either the patient or the carer or so it seems to me.  All we can do is prop each other up to the best of our ability and just keep on keeping on !

TtDA,  I felt a couple of rain drops when I was taking the bin out tonight  ~~ does that qualify as a storm please  ==  well the wheels were making a terrible din  embarassed

Well a small amount of rain came our way. Couldn't get the cat in last night but in the early hours he decided to make a loud entrance via a window (he has a cat door) then out again and back again....no peace at all! 🐈‍⬛

Misty, damp and humid. Must check on the camping members of our family down in Cornwall just now and a bit more exposed to the elements.

I washed the motorhome roof today. If it was anything like the car has been over the last couple of months it needed it. Quite a lot of muck came off but just as I finished the roof it started to spit with rain no hope of doing the rest of the van. After lunch we had a substantial shower if rain, I thought thunder was in the air as well. Anyway just like a kid I stood looking out the window at it pounding on the conservatory roof for five minutes!

After a good hefty thunderstorm, we have a real downpour and the temp has dropped beautifully. No doubt there will be some flooding and washed out campsites but we sure needed this.

Still very hot here today - so much for the rain we were supposed to be getting and this lunchtime's news says that Yorkshire is now officially a drought area. Final packing of the caravan before we go away tomorrow for 2 weeks and I washed the car - hasn't been washed for weeks and once the hosepipe ban comes in next week - that'll be it until whenever.

Off to our favourite CS near Malton - where we always go for Ros's birthday - and it's another 'big' one this year. Not doing a party though - but going out to lunch with some friends.

Looking forward to a nice relaxing break without the hassle of a long journey to get there!

Thank you for your very kind comments about my friend and her husband. As you say I can only be there for her. We must keep on keeping on. One of her grandsons and his wife brought her 2 year old gt grandson to see me today which was lovely.

I am so sorry to hear about your friends brue. So difficult to lose a friend especially one of long standing. Your friend's wife must have been so pleased to have a chat with you. Very special for both of you.

It is still raining 🌧 👏

We have lost quite a few friends  it is never easy and the Older one gets ,you come to realise how many older people become lonely as their social life gets less and the phone rarely rings

Some still have contact with their remaining relatives and children but it is sadly a sign of the times some children do seem to have a very "busy" life or are not near to visit

When OH was in hospital and in the rehabilitation unit it was very noticeable how some patients relished the time , as they had others to talk to ,but some never had visitors or rarely did

Ps we have yet to have even a spot of rain

Milliehull thinking of you, your friend's husband and family. Not an easy time for any one at all. I'm still in touch with the remaining few, 4, of my late mum's friends, one dates back to my mum being one the first to hold her as a baby, her sister and mum can't remember not being friends, with that exception such was a postscript baby only now in her 80's, the others remain in generally good health in their 90's thankfully.

We had very welcome rain yesterday 😀. Good and steady with no flashes or crashes. Started early afternoon dried up for an bit whilst OH took dog out, first walk at that time for them both in over a week because of the heat. I had to find my cardigan, but I was wearing a strappy dress and dislike the cool on my back.  We went on to have steady rain during the evening and a very heavy downpour about 11pm. OH says it was coming over the gutters, so I'll get those looked at, I expect I'll now have to join a queue! It was on the list to have them cleaned, I expect they need it judging by other neglected jobs here 🤐. In fact I was going to start calling around later this week anyway.

Not scientific but a container under the bench collected about a 1mm of rain. Just watching the garden as it fell was lovely you could almost see the beautiful roses smile and become luminous, everything looks better, I relative terms 😉 it's not done much for my own burning bush, as in Moses terms, I'll try to add photo in a bit.

Much fresher today, was to be a gardening day, the climbing hydrangea coming down, but  now hopefully Friday - its far too big for me to cope with, wasn't overly pretty so hopefully I'll find something manageable to replace it.

It is cool enough to put new curtains today 😀

    Enjoy your day folks

Edit, photos taken and resized in time for edit. The hydrangea has been trimmed by us since April in the porch area 😱

Arrived at Hunter's Moon CAMC Site yesterday.  Had some rain during the day.  This morning looked a bit dull to start with, but it looks as if the sun is making a breakthrough.  No BBQ's allowed at all on the site at the moment (including gas/ cadac etc) - the site is on 'red alert' for fire.

Car alarm went off at 1am.  Can't think why.... it's never happened before.  In fact, I didn't even realise it was our until Carol opened the blinds....  All looks OK, but hope I didn't disturb too many folk....

The hydrangea looks attractive B2 but understand it will worry you! We have one but can't get it to grow so have the opposite problem.

We finally got some heavy rain yesterday, like DK we stood and watched it till we realised part of the cascade was from some detached guttering.

Village show coming up but the weather both dry and wet will have affected entries. This year I persuaded OH to plant more sweetcorn and that has done well and enjoyed the hot weather, however it's not going in the show it's heading for our plates and the freezer.

The tip beckons today for OH and a pal. We have been clearing out a neglected area which was intended for compost heaps. Our garden helper is having an August break. I think WN mentioned getting some help, we have two hours once a fortnight and it's been a life saver.

Very glad to see the rain and it's still very warm!

    Heavy drizzle rain again now.

I can hear our garden sighing with relief after all the rain yesterday and overnight. Our grass is now a slightly darker shade of brown laughing and the plants look much better. It is still grey with more rain forecast. Hopefully the rain will have helped stop the spread of all the wildfires we have had here recently which is a relief. I might take the stuff I have sorted out to the Sue Ryder shop today.

Must be a run of car alarms for no apparent reason, mine for the very first time activated late evening. Turned it off, unlocked and dash display said 'Volumetric alarm activated', no-one inside other than a big fly that must have got in during the day, let it out of the door and OK since.

It rained steadily all day yesterday, filled our two water butts. The rhododendrons and most of the hydrangea have bucked up but I may have lost a hydrangea. It is supposed to be dry today but we have thick grey clouds so not sure. Hope so, the plan is to take the dog to the estuary for a run, either been too hot or wet so far. Weather change not so good for me, I’m back on the antihistamines. If it’s thick cloud or rain during the summer I am coughing and blocked up. Been like it for 50 years. Dr says it’s the clouds bringing the spores down, possibly tree spores.. and we live next to a wood! However, I do sleep better with the tablets. I much prefer the heat though.

Shame for anyone on holiday here though, it costs much less to take the family to the beach for the day than having to entertain them in other ways. But good for local attractions I suppose.

Im still in the spare room with the dog. Not too much of a hardship as that was our bedroom for 20 years before our extension was built. And she snores less than OH. Could have done with ‘ordinary’ summer weather while she has been with us though, either too hot or muddy garden and muddy paws.

Thunderstorm passed over us at teatime yesterday, without giving us a single drop of rain. So we set to and used pool water to hand water all borders and beds. Half an hour later the rain started🤣, and it didn’t half come down for a couple of hours. It’s noticeably cool outside this morning.

It’s not a pond JV, they are fine. This is a pool I bought for us to play in, and now recycling the water, which has no chemicals or salt in it. We do use it to top up our ponds as well. Tadpoles still happy.

We have a climbing hydrangea Bakers, lovely when in flower, but needs regular cutting back, and at correct time to get flowers on next year. I like to see houses with something climbing up them, gives them character and helps birds nest. Just has to be right plant. We are outing an old Pyracantha shortly, it’s got some kind of mould in places, drops it’s leaves, makes a mess. I have a nice Wisteria to replace it with.

Hope people have noticed some of the warnings about pollution on SW beaches, quite a few have been affected due to sewage releases after the heavy rain, rivers won't be too good either...keep your head out of the water if you can't resist! undecided

PS anyone with cuts and grazes should also avoid.

Instow beach near us is like this a lot of the time brue, there is a sewerage outlet just up from it. See little ones sitting at the edge of the water which is often scummy. Friend mentioned it to a mother once but was told, ‘ no it’s fine’, don’t think that she believed her.  It really shouldn’t be allowed.
