Same as Step son did , when doing it on line it it takes you through it with prompts? to assist as both LPAs are best filled in one financial. and the other health and welfare. each costs around £82
you can fill them in on line but you will then need hard copies to be signed and sent to the Office of Public Guardian you have about 40days to send the hard copies after all have signed them there are 15,sections in each LPA

Sorry Millie this was meant for DK

I might still have my first proper pay slip but i don't have my Saturday job ones. Not sure it I didn't cull a lot recently.
I had a big cull before the move and got rid of 20 years worth at least of OH's as he's been retired for 15 years I decided they were probably surplus to requirements. However I do have the paperwork from his induction into the Civil Service, makes quite interesting reading. I didn't have anything near as interesting when I had mine.
When I started my account recording it was to keep track of spending, we got a mortgage as interest rates climbed and because it was all paid into and out of the bank it was very easy to go overdrawn. I hate giving away hard earned money, only happened once NEVER again.
We were saying over dinner we can't recall government stepping in with assistance back then. Maybe they did and we didn't qualify?? Who knows maybe we didn't take much notice of such things but I do remember OH getting permission from his department, yes you had to ask!, to do an extra job out of office hours when we were down to one wage.......

Bakers2 We were only discussing just that last night. We found life incredibly hard in the 1970s and we didn't have any government help whatsoever. I had to 'mothball' my car in our garage for 2 years as we couldn't afford to run it and the mother of a friend of mine gave me her bike and we fitted a baby seat on the back for me and our youngest son to get around. I became a childminder for a few years in order to earn some money. OH didn't have a wage rise for 5 years and neither did we have any holidays but we were all in the same boat. Then again in the late 1980s the mortgage rate went through the roof and we didn't know which way to turn so for a few years we changed our mortgage to interest payments only (which meant we had to catch up hard later in the 1990s) and I went from part time to full time in my job and also got a job on Saturdays in a show home selling houses. Life was tough but I don't remember the song and dance being made about it in the press and on TV that we have now.

In England and Wales you can fill in the forms yourself and submit them to the Office of the Public Guardian for registration. There are two types, namely ‘health and welfare’ and ‘property and financial affairs’. Each one costs £82 (or half that for low income) - so £328 for two people and both types. If your affairs are straightforward (ours were) it is quite possible to do it all yourself, though they recommend using a solicitor if there are any complications. That would be MUCH more expensive. A local solicitor quoted several thousand pounds. The forms do take time and a lot of checking to make sure there are no inconsistencies. If you make mistakes you may have to re-submit with a new fee. You can download the forms and guidance notes from the gov.uk website and then decide how you wish to proceed. The whole process takes at least three months (pre-Covid) so probably much longer now.

I did my Aunts POA online, hers was fairly straightforward so no hassle. However, I later did my Dad’s Attendance Allowance forms on line, pages of it, they really don’t make it easy. Got almost to the end and it all disappeared! I had to start all over again, being determined I was still sat at the computer at 1.30 am. The next morning when I arrived for his daily visit I was greeted with, ‘you’re late!’ You just have to bite your tongue sometimes. Caring isn’t easy for either party.

That is the way forward (to contact Rowena) as us mods don't have access to member personal details beyond what you see on the forum. Some people include and email address in their profile details but if you do that I would suggest not using your regular email address but a throw away one. Also best not to include it as a link as that will attract spammers. On my website I have had to remove the linked email and replace it with the address and no underscore if you see what I mean.

Age concern, or whatever they're called nowadays will help you out filling that and possibly other forms for free. They came round in person if you wanted them too, but that was pre covid. I remember a work colleague getting help that way. They are very good at getting the terminology correct!

Thank to all those of you that have replied regarding POA's, most interesting and informative. I am sure I am capable of filling out a few forms, hopefully. We did our Wills many years ago via a solicitor and they even completed a codicil to update them. They also arranged for our house to be registered with the Land Registry. The trouble is that the solicitors we have used for many years was closed down by the Authorities. Nothing to do with the local branch but more to do with the people that owned the group!!! I now even have my house deeds sitting in my filing cabinet! Perhaps a winter job?

You are so right DEBSC as with my OH ,some are still in denial as to what problems it brings
I need respite which is hard to come by ,but by now having a pVC and trailer ,I am determined to make her life as normal as is possible at least I can get to talk when on sites FM mostly and she can get about on her mobility scooter, ,where as at home every trip out would include hills
Plus I have walked many miles with her on the scooter so I get nearly as much exercise.as when we had our collie Rosa ,but another dog is not feasible now as I cannot leave OH for more than a few minutes

Can I be of help?
My email address is in my profile. If B2 cares to mail me, I can pass it on to you, Millie, assuming yours hasn’t changed from all that time ago.

That is really kind of you TW. Thank you so much. Yes my email still the same - I am a creature of habit 😊

OK, Millie. All we need now is for B2 to read this exchange and mail me, if she’s happy to do so.

I can assure Bakers2 that you are very trustworthy and can be trusted with her email address 😇

It should have been easy Bakers, I checked contracts as part of my job. It just seemed as though every question was a way of ensuring that money wasn’t paid out. I can imagine some people who needed and deserved the money might just give up on it, which is wrong.

Debsc, I applied for three attendance allowances for family members and a family friend, by the time I got to the third one I knew exactly what to write on their behalf. One of the problems is people don't want to admit they can't do things but you have to really fight their corner on paper and say exactly what they can't do and also state clearly all the health issues etc. I wanted to help our frail elderly neighbours too but they couldn't bring themselves to accept this very helpful benefit...I think their families have finally done this for them now, sadly one has dementia after moving away.
JVB I hope you can have some off time at home as well as away, it all sounds exhausting. Are there any carers groups near you or even on line carers chat groups via age concern (or similar?)

Moved on down to our last CL of this trip, not far from home. We drove past what looked like a horrible accident just west of Kirkby Lonsdale involving a movie cycle and a car at least. There were plenty stopped "assisting" so we squeezed past, not wanting to add to what was going to be a massive tailback in both directions. The police and ambulance only just passed when we were close to the M6 roundabout, and they would have had a struggle getting through to the scene of the accident.

At least ABM has enjoyed the 90 minute programme on CH5 this evening going over the years of 'Allo 'Allo with its stars and rascals !!
Almost brought back some of my terrible schoolboy French, perhaps enough to placate Brue

ABM. I was under the impression that you were occasionally left in charge of some pigeons and could maybe help out in providing a communication supply....?

Woke up with relief today as a neighbouring terrier had gone missing in a badger sett yesterday but has now emerged. Our terrier did the same and in the end we could never let her off the lead locally.

Woke up to fog this morning and now started to lift and some weak sunshine appearing may get to 32 C today have enjoyed the cooler days much better to sleep but looks like we may get a storm later in the week so perhaps the heatwave may disappear.
Out with friends on Thursday near a village near to us and saw an unusual sight going pass on the road a modern large motorbike with side car plus towing a trailer tent all very smart, then yesterday we saw and old Digue French caravan and later a folding Esterel caravan.
Enjoy your weekend folks.
New canopy put up yesterday outside bedroom window a bit more shade than the previous one.

Indeed Brue, I am, on occasion, allowed to enter the Home for Racing Pigeons a couple of doors away and dole out their food and water. Alas they totally ignore any other instructions I may give 'em so very little chance of good 'pigeon comms' taking place I assure you !!
RK, cool grey morning in Cheshire, but I believe we wont be sitting out later, well not without full waterproofs n' wellies ~~ not that I've seen or heard any of the forecast heavy and noisy showers yet although the occasional poodle** has been seen !

I meant to record the 'Allo 'Allo programme last night but forgot so we shall have to try and get it via IPlayer or whatever it's called. We were watching the NYO orchestra on BBC Proms which was wonderful.

ABM said that one of my posts brought back memories. Well just Redkite’s mention of a motorbike sidecar and memories suddenly flooded through my head, not sure if it’s getting older but lately childhood memories keep flooding back at the slightest thing, is it just me?
Dad had a motorbike and sidecar, I used to sit on Mums stretched out legs and she would sing to me on our journeys, she had a beautiful voice. Some long journeys as well, we used to visit her sister, some 70 miles away, couldn’t have been very comfortable for Mum.
