Another sunny warm day in Somerset, no rain on the horizon but no hosepipe ban either (probably shouldn't be tempting fate ) We are hoping to spend a few days on  a THS, phoned up and booked in, not far to drive and if the weather stays the same we'll be on the beach for a few days relaxation. The only problem with non ehu is using gas but I think we have enough for the summer.

I can't remember when we last had a dry summer so have decided to make the best of it.

Daughter no 2 and partner have just bought a second hand bell tent, it looks OK and they're going to attempt to take the dogs camping..we hope! Son and grandson are helping on a riding for the disabled camp for a week, also in a tent although son complained that everyone else is in a caravan or motorhome, I think they'll survive!? ⛺️

Hope you are coping with the heat in France Redkite, it's very warm here but we have a nice breeze.

Our normal Tyre company is operating on a reduced staffing level due to Covid and so as we had to go to Wrexham today I booked a timed slot with Kwik-Fit to have 2 new front tyres fitted.

Turned up on time. They should rename them "Quite a Slow-Fit". An hour to fit 2 tyres is taking the proverbial. Won't be using them again unless an absolute emergency.

We had to go around a diversion to get to their branch and it was interesting to see the difference in diesel prices. None of the garages were on major A roads. Dearest was good old rip you off Shell at £195.9 whilst the cheapest was at Morrisons in Wrexham which was £177.9. Pays to check around your local area. Called in at Sainsbury to get a couple of items that Tesco have stopped supplying (replacing them with their own brand) and was surprised about how sparse the shelves were. This is the third Sainsbury we have been in since mid June and all of them seem to be having problems with their supply chain for a large portion of their standard stock.

Raining here, a good steady drizzle that will help the ground. I assume you'll have to use Titanium tipped spades and forks to get into anything down South and East Anglia.

A few weeks ago we had a nail (or something) in the tyre but wasb't losing any air and as Kick fit is near I went round, they said it couldn't be repaired but they also didn't have any tyres in our size but could get some in a few days. A few days later we went to a local tyre fitter in Penrith who repaired it for £15 in as many minutes. I won't be using Kwik fit again.

The tyre place was called Hardy's in case anyone needs them.

Had quite a successful  F 2 F  with my Diabetes Specialist Nursing Sister this afternoon  smile

Booked in for 2.00  for a 30 minute session  but all went well so most of the time was spent chatting about  all things ABM related.  Never had " Doppler " test  before so  quite pleased to be advised to take a cushion/pillow to support my head.  Nobody understood why I said that should I start snoring please wave a double bacon butty please and coffee with two sweeteners  innocent.    All checks  passed ok  so now I'm expected to take more exercise if you please    yell  and no excuses  !!

Still, I  got home in time for an afternoon kip  cool

Drizzle first thing but it stopped by 10.00 so out into the garden, principally to dig up our Hebe but it's been saved as when we cut it back we found some new growth and some new shoots. So it's had a severe haircut and will be given another chance. Had 40 minutes before a fair bit of rain recommenced so we stopped until after lunch when it had dried up and the sun was out.

The ground was marginally better this morning to work in.

Almost finalised our stops for an autumn tour. Just prevaricating on where to stop for one in the middle.Fingers crossed it will go ahead.

Well DSB I could say this is just how warm it is round here...see photo. wink

We went to Abbotsbury sub Tropical gardens yesterday morning, hoping also  to enjoy the coast road from Bridport. We couldn't see a thing  as there was a continual sea mist whirling around! The gardens, as usual, looked good except for some very parched plants in some spots. South Somerset and Dorset are still very warm and dry. Interestingly the coastal camp sites etc were busy but not as busy as we thought they might be so the roads were quiet.

Dull this morning, Brue, but still quite humid.  Hope you enjoyed Abbotsbury.  👍👍  We're at Wells Touring Park until Friday morning and there are quite a number of spare pitches.  I think many sites are not as busy as usual.  Our side is full, but opposite us in both directions have spaces....

It looks as if there was never a need for me to book in advance? Perhaps its because its Adults Only so it might not get the same rush as family sites at this time of year? One has to be careful with the angle of photos but the pitches don't seem particularly big either?

We did come here a couple of years ago, in the midst of Covid, and it was really busy...  I wonder if it might be more to do with fuel costs... ??  The pitches are not too big, but they're OK.  They ask for vans to be pitched to the far left (looking at the pitch).  There is ample room for an awning, but the car has to be parked across the top of the pitch...  It works OK, but we do feel a bit close to the caravan next door...

Still very warm here, 26 earlier when I looked,(9 and quite humid despite a brisk warm breeze. This adds to the drying effect on plants!

Garden looking very seared! I collect any water and give to the flowers in borders and just water my pots, there's still lots as I brought loads to put in my new garden. So far the only in to go in the ground is my flame of the forest which was looking fed up in its pot before we moved. Of course that needs a good soak every other day in these conditions.

Dog's off for a trim, wash and brush up this afternoon and I expect she'll feel more comfy. Feeling very achy, sore throat, headache for past couple of days so bare essentials only. Tested myself but negative thankfully.

Did whoever ?Wherenext, sort out a decent hosepipe? I'm in the market for one. Our non kink, it always has 🤐, now folds itself over . Most infuriating....... Or can anyone recommend one please. Could do with a new storage roll too so if they come together so much the better.

Did pick up all the fallen Victoria plums and picked the ripe ones. Despite giving a lot away I still have half a bucket. As we are at the end of a cul de sac now we get no passing trade, so will have put them our WhatsApp group. Loads more to come!

    1Right lunchtime.

OH and a pal have been busy taking garden debris to the tip, every few weeks we fill up two huge yellow builder's bags with cuttings etc so these have now been emptied. Other stuff gets recycled around the garden and also used to keep the footpath from wearing out.

We have had rain !! had to walk out in it to actually feel it, not enough but at least some fresher air and dampened ground. Forecast for next ten days shows sunshine as usual.

Hope you recover quickly from your sore throat etc B2. We lost our plum tree but have a damson tree, this year the fruit is promised to a friend who wants to make damson gin for a family wedding...that will keep everyone happy on the day, I think?! wink

Hi Bakers, it arrived late this morning! Ordered it online from D.W.Tool Shop who turned out cheapest. Just an ordinary Hozelock but with a 50 metres hose, in order to have enough to do the caravan around the corner. You can get smaller lengths. Took 2 working days to come. Good quality hose as well.

Will give it a spin later tonight.

Thank you. I look forward to reading your review when you've test driven it.

Oh yes length - I'll have to measure distance from tap to end of front garden and greenhouse. Good job you mentioned that cos I wouldn't have thought about it until I got on the website page.

Still 27 not as humid now but thevclouds have allowed the sun through so hot!

A quiet day for us having had a week in Hertfordshire, looking after son and family’s dog and granddaughter although, at 14, she was quite happy doing her own thing.  We will have the dog here for 2 weeks in 10 days time so it was handy to get to know him again and get used to the ‘manic - ness’!!  We will need a holiday after that I think, although we probably won’t be going to our local Club site after receiving this email today ………..

    Dear Mr ********,

As you've stayed at York Beechwood Grange Club Campsite before with us, we wanted you to be the first to know there's still some last minute availability. Get away for less this summer with 3 nights for just £146.40^ and make new memories.

We laughed at the JUST !!!!!!   Now we know why we use CL’s where we can.

Further along A66 is brilliant Farm Shop, Mainsgill. Look out for the Bactrian Camels, and other less unusual farm animals. Then you have Raby Castle and Gardens, and the very interesting church at Staindrop not far away.

Barnard Castle is a nice town, interesting castle in town centre, with a walk along the Tees, plenty of nice shops, and just out of town is the Bowes Museum. You will pass close by to Edlingham Abbey to get to BC. A little further along A66 is Bowes Castle itself, with the Roman ruins alongside.

Fed up with ancient history? Scenic drive up Teesdale and Weardale for some fabulous, occasionally bleak scenery and all the Lead Mining history.

Richmond itself is lovely. Castle, Regimental Museum, River walks, some nice shops, good pubs (can recommend Black Lion for meals).

You won’t be stuck for things to do in this area, no matter what the weather does, we know and love it very well, rarely a year passes where we don’t stay or pass through. Hope you have a lovely time😁

No warmth or sun here, dull windy and cool. We have had a couple of days of rain on and off so the garden isn't to bad. The grass is still more brown than green.

Been busy in the garden digging up heathers that have got to big and woody. Like WN I also have an out of control Hebe which has now had a good haircut, I also took cuttings to grow some more. Split up a couple of Heuchera's and replanted in another area, replanted some daffodil bulbs that got dug up while removing the heathers. Had to chop down a Clematis Montana which was also out of control, need to dig up and move but its a good big plant.

Tow car had its MOT,  oil and filter change today, wallet a good bit lighter. Caravan insurance also renewed, tried the CAMC but at £100 more than Saga (who we were with) and £200 more than Adrian Flux (who we are now with) we decided not to bother. I also renewed our holiday insurance, that hasn't changed since last year smile its been an expensive month so far and we are only 3 days in.

What a week😱 Everything going well for OHs recovery, last Weds got a call from sister, she had possibly broken her ankle. Nine hours in A&E, X-ray, thankfully no break, but very bad sprain. Got to stay off it for next two weeks. So that left me looking after OH, sister and my Mum, and our less than mobile elderly pooch😱 Talk about a full day, every day. And then OH and I threw in a delightful bout of food poisoning Saturday/Sunday which I got over reasonably well, but OH is still struggling, his immunity is so compromised at the moment.

    I definitely need a holiday😁

Francis we enjoyed our trip to the Richmond area but we had to restrict ourselves bit to take into account my aged MiL. Still got to loads of places.

Plenty of historical sites as Ttda alluded to. They also include Bolton Castle which might appeal to you as they do a Falconry display which was very entertaining and an archery one in the afternoon. Good job for the birds they don't do them at the same time!laughing

You might be interested in the following

There is parking in the market square in Richmond if you go in there. A bit chaotic but it seems to work.

Plus, as the club site is a bit north of Richmond you might fancy the following as well.

Enjoy your trip when you go.
